  • event vs thread programming on server side.

    We are planning to start a fairly complex web-portal which is expected to attract good local traffic and I've been told by my boss to consider/analyse node.js for the serve side. I think scalability and multi-core support can be handled with an Nginx or Cherokee up in the front. 1) Is this node.js ready for some serious/big business? 2) Does this 'event/asynchronous' paradigm on server side has the potential to support the heavy traffic and data operation ? considering the fact that 'everything' is being processed in a single thread and all the live connections would be lost if it got crashed (though its easy to restart). 3) What are the advantages of event based programming compared to thread based style ? or vice-versa. (I know of higher cost associated with thread switching but hardware can be squeezed with event model.)   • getJSON triggered from a button inside a form

    Hi, I'm having trouble understanding why I have to place the button triggering the getJSON method outside of the form for the request to work. If the button is placed within the form then the getJSON method returns no results. The code bascially makes a XHR request on clicking the Submit button, based on the value selected.   • IE - hidden radio button not checked when the corresponding label is clicked

    I just noticed a strange behaviour in IE7. I have radio buttons with associated labels as follows: <input type="radio" name="filter" id="filter_1" value="Activities" checked="checked" /> <label for="filter_1">Activities</label> <input type="radio" name="filter" id="filter_2" value="Services" /> <label for="filter_2">Services</label> The radio button is hidden via css with display:none or visibility: hidden (don't ask) The problem is - when I click the label in IE7 (haven't looked at other IE versions yet) the associated radio button is not actually checked. I confirmed this with jquery - the label click event is fired, but the radio button click event is not. A form post also confirms that the checked radio button does not change. This works correctly in firefox, and also works correctly if I remove the CSS that hides the radio buttons. Is this an IE bug or am I missing something?

At the moment I am adding the Button after the data is bound in Page_Load. The problem is that the data binding methods are not called in postbacks, so the Button disappears when I click on it. Any suggestions on how to do this? Problem is that I need to know some attributes of the grid item to create the Button, so I cannot create it before the data has been bound.

    Say a submit button has a click event handler as well (yes, it's wrong, but that's really the code I'm working on). And the click handler sets a value in a field of the form that's about to be submitted. So when the submit button is clicked: What will fire first, the form submit event or the click event? Will the value set in the form field by the click event submitted to the server? I think this depends on the answer to Q1. If the form is posted first, I'm guessing it won't. Note: I'm not looking for alternatives and advice. I know what the proper way of handling this will be. Just trying to understand the sequence of events and their implications.

  • how to avoid jQuery UI draggable from also triggering click event

    A have a large div (a map) that is draggable via jQuery UI draggable. The div has child divs which are clickable. My problem is that if you drag the map, on mouse up, the click event is fired on whatever child div you started the drag from. How do I stop the mouse up from triggering the click event if its part of a drag (as opposed to someone just clicking without a drag, in which case the click event is desired).

  • Programmatically Update UITableView in Response to Button Press

    I have a completely custom view that holds a UITableView and a Custom Tab Bar (basically a UIView that contains 6 UIButtons). I am loading data from a plist file, and then I am sorting the data into multiple arrays based on categories (an array for misc items, and array for mail items, etc.) Each button in the tab bar represents a category, and when I press the button I call the custom function "miscSelected" and so on. How can I have the table view completely reload and then display the tableview based on the array selected (select the misc category and the tableview clears itself and loads the misc array data, same for any other category)? The method I have experimented with is created and NSString named "selection" and then in each button function I set selected to equal whatever section I am selecting. In my cellForRoxAtIndexPath method I have this: if ([self.selection isEqualToString:@"All Items"]) { NSArray *mainDataArray = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:self.plistFile]; NSSortDescriptor *brandDescriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"name" ascending:YES]; NSArray *sortDescriptors = [NSArray arrayWithObject:brandDescriptor]; self.sortedData = [mainDataArray sortedArrayUsingDescriptors:sortDescriptors]; } else if ([self.selection isEqualToString:@"Misc Items"]){ self.sortedData = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile:self.plistFile]; } cell.itemTitle.text = [[self.sortedData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:@"name"]; For the sake of example and testing I am simply displaying the same data, just one button displays it in alphabetical order and the other does not. This code works only when I start to scroll down and back up, but it does not actually update on button press. Calling myTable reloadData does not do anything either.   • ASP.NET button click event still firing even through custom server-side validation fails

    I am having a problem where my button click event is still firing even though my custom server-side validation is set to args.IsValid = false. I am debugging through the code and the validation is definitely being fired before the button click, and args.IsValid is definitely being set to false once the custom validation takes place, but it always makes its way to the button click event afterwards. Any ideas on why this is?

  • Have a clickable button on top of a combobox in WPF

    I can get a button to appear and be clickable in the drop down list of a combo box, but I cannot get the selected combo box item (the drop list is closed) to have the button be clickable. It always skips the button click and just opens the drop down list. I basically want the Button_Click event handler that I setup to be called once it is clicked.   • Button in App on iOS 4.2 won't work properly

    My app, written for the iPad contains several UIButtons. One of them starts and stops an AVAudioPlayer: hitting the button once starts the player, hitting it again stops it accordingly. Rinse and repeat. This all works nicely on iOS version pre 4.2. When installing the App on an iPad with iOS 4.2, the button turns on and off the audio player exactly once, then stops working properly: after hitting the button, it turns into its selected state, but it does not start the audio player (as it should) and hitting the button again doesn't return it to its default state, either. As previously said: it's all fine and dandy pre 4.2, the problem only arises on the most current OS version. XCode 3.2.4 iPad with iOS 4.2

  • App crashes on back button / Activities & Intents

    I have an android application which starts a new activity Intent startAuthorization = new Intent(AndroidActivity, AuthorizeUser.class); startActivityForResult(startAuthorization,4711); When that new activity is done (a ok button is clicked) I call setResult(RESULT_OK, returnResult); finish(); Which works fine. In case the user doesn't click the okay button but uses the return button of the phone (this arrow pointing around to the left) the application has a force close. I have set a breakpoint on the first line of my method onActivityResult but the debugger never stops there. I have no idea where the issue comes up - how can I find out? Is there a method I have to overwrite to handle this back button?
