  • Nhibernate Criteria Query with Join

    - by John Peters
    I am looking to do the following using an NHibernate Criteria Query I have "Product"s which has 0 to Many "Media"s A product can be associated with 1 to Many ProductCategories These use a table in the middled to create the join ProductCategories Id Title ProductsProductCategories ProductCategoryId ProductId Products Id Title ProductMedias ProductId MediaId Medias Id MediaType I need to implement a criteria query to return All Products in a ProductCategory and the top 1 associated Media or no media if none exists. So although for example a "T Shirt" may have 10 Medias associated, my result should be something similar to this Product.Id Product.Title MediaId 1 T Shirt 21 2 Shoes Null 3 Hat 43 I have tried the following solutions using JoinType.LeftOuterJoin 1) productCriteria.SetResultTransformer(Transformers.DistinctRootEntity); This hasnt worked as the transform is done code side and as I have .SetFirstResult() and .SetMaxResults() for paging purposes it wont work. 2) .SetProjection( Projections.Distinct( Projections.ProjectionList() .Add(Projections.Alias(Projections.Property("Id"), "Id")) ... .SetResultTransformer(Transformers.AliasToBean()); This hasn't worked as I cannot seem to populate a value for Medias.Id in the projections. (Similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1036116/nhibernate-criteria-api-projections) Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • How do I use C# and ADO.NET to query an Oracle table with a spatial column of type SDO_GEOMETRY?

    - by John Donahue
    My development machine is running Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit version. I am using Visual Studio 2010 Release Candidate. I am connecting to an Oracle 11g Enterprise server version 11.1.0.7.0. I had a difficult time locating Oracle client software that is made for 64-bit Windows systems and eventually landed here to download what I assume is the proper client connectivity software. I added a reference to "Oracle.DataAccess" which is version 2.111.6.0 (Runtime Version is v2.0.50727). I am targeting .NET CLR version 4.0 since all properties of my VS Solution are defaults and this is 2010 RC. I was then able to write a console application in C# that established connectivity, executed a SELECT statement, and properly returned data when the table in question does NOT contain a spatial column. My problem is that this no longer works when the table I query has a column of type SDO_GEOMETRY in it. Below is the simple console application I am trying to run that reproduces the problem. When the code gets to the line with the "ExecuteReader" command, an exception is raised and the message is "Unsupported column datatype". using System; using System.Data; using Oracle.DataAccess.Client; namespace ConsoleTestOracle { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { string oradb = string.Format("Data Source={0};User Id={1};Password={2};", "hostname/servicename", "login", "password"); try { using (OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection(oradb)) { conn.Open(); OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand(); cmd.Connection = conn; cmd.CommandText = "select * from SDO_8307_2D_POINTS"; cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text; OracleDataReader dr = cmd.ExecuteReader(); } } catch (Exception e) { string error = e.Message; } } } } The fact that this code works when used against a table that does not contain a spatial column of type SDO_GEOMETRY makes me think I have my windows 7 machine properly configured so I am surprised that I get this exception when the table contains different kinds of columns. I don't know if there is some configuration on my machine or the Oracle machine that needs to be done, or if the Oracle client software I have installed is wrong, or old and needs to be updated. Here is the SQL I used to create the table, populate it with some rows containing points in the spatial column, etc. if you want to try to reproduce this exactly. SQL Create Commands: create table SDO_8307_2D_Points (ObjectID number(38) not null unique, TestID number, shape SDO_GEOMETRY); Insert into SDO_8307_2D_Points values (1, 1, SDO_GEOMETRY(2001, 8307, null, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1, 1), SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(10.0, 10.0))); Insert into SDO_8307_2D_Points values (2, 2, SDO_GEOMETRY(2001, 8307, null, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1, 1), SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(10.0, 20.0))); insert into user_sdo_geom_metadata values ('SDO_8307_2D_Points', 'SHAPE', SDO_DIM_ARRAY(SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Lat', -180, 180, 0.05), SDO_DIM_ELEMENT('Long', -90, 90, 0.05)), 8307); create index SDO_8307_2D_Point_indx on SDO_8307_2D_Points(shape) indextype is mdsys.spatial_index PARAMETERS ('sdo_indx_dims=2' ); Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • how to return C++ pointer in objective-C++

    - by John Smith
    I have the following objective-C++ header with the simple method to return this pointer. @interface MyObj { MyCPPObj * cpp; } -(MyCPPObj *) getObj; I have created the simple method @implementation MyObj -(MyCPPObj *) getObj { return cpp; } Everything seems to work until I actually try to use the object in another file newObj = [createdMyObj getObj]; It complains: error: cannot convert 'objc_object*' to 'MyCPPObje *' in initialization. It seems that the method is return an objective-c object, but I specifically requested a C++ pointer. How can I fix that?

  • How to display a TimeSpan in MVC Razor

    - by John Mitchell
    So I have a duration in seconds of a video and I would like to display that duration in Razor. Currently I am using @TimeSpan.FromSeconds(item.Duration).ToString() However the rest of the code I am using uses @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => item.Description) Is there way to get the duration (currently an int) to display a as a timespan? using the @Html.DisplayFor syntax. The item.duration is pulling form a Entity Framework model which is held as a int in the database.

  • Long-running ASP.NET tasks

    - by John Leidegren
    I know there's a bunch of APIs out there that do this, but I also know that the hosting environment (being ASP.NET) puts restrictions on what you can reliably do in a separate thread. I could be completely wrong, so please correct me if I am, this is however what I think I know. A request typically timeouts after 120 seconds (this is configurable) but eventually the ASP.NET runtime will kill a request that's taking too long to complete. The hosting environment, typically IIS, employs process recycling and can at any point decide to recycle your app. When this happens all threads are aborted and the app restarts. I'm however not sure how aggressive it is, it would be kind of stupid to assume that it would abort a normal ongoing HTTP request but I would expect it to abort a thread because it doesn't know anything about the unit of work of a thread. If you had to create a programming model that easily and reliably and theoretically put a long running task, that would have to run for days, how would you accomplish this from within an ASP.NET application? The following are my thoughts on the issue: I've been thinking a long the line of hosting a WCF service in a win32 service. And talk to the service through WCF. This is however not very practical, because the only reason I would choose to do so, is to send tasks (units of work) from several different web apps. I'd then eventually ask the service for status updates and act accordingly. My biggest concern with this is that it would NOT be a particular great experience if I had to deploy every task to the service for it to be able to execute some instructions. There's also this issue of input, how would I feed this service with data if I had a large data set and needed to chew through it? What I typically do right now is this SELECT TOP 10 * FROM WorkItem WITH (ROWLOCK, UPDLOCK, READPAST) WHERE WorkCompleted IS NULL It allows me to use a SQL Server database as a work queue and periodically poll the database with this query for work. If the work item completed with success, I mark it as done and proceed until there's nothing more to do. What I don't like is that I could theoretically be interrupted at any point and if I'm in-between success and marking it as done, I could end up processing the same work item twice. I might be a bit paranoid and this might be all fine but as I understand it there's no guarantee that that won't happen... I know there's been similar questions on SO before but non really answers with a definitive answer. This is a really common thing, yet the ASP.NET hosting environment is ill equipped to handle long-running work. Please share your thoughts.

  • C++ Profiling: KiFastSystemCallRet

    - by John
    I searched for this after seeing it's the top rated item when profiling using Very Sleepy, and it seems everyone gets the answer "it's a system function, ignore it". But Sleepy's hint for the function says: Hint: KiFastSystemCallRet often means the thread was waiting for something else to finish. Possible causes might be disk I/O, waiting for an event, or maybe just calling Sleep(). Now, my app is absolutely thrashing the CPU and so it's a bit weird 33% of the time is spent waiting for something to happen. Do I really just ignore it? EDIT: apparently, 77% of the calls to this come from QueryOglResource (?) which is in module nvd3dnum. I think that might be nvidia Direct3D stuff, i.e rendering.

  • Strings in Objective-C++

    - by John Smith
    I just switched my code from Objective-C to Objective-C++. Everything goes swimmingly except for two lines. NSString * text1=[[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%.2f",ymax] UTF8String]; This line complains that error: cannot convert 'const char*' to 'NSString*' in initialization The second error related to the first is from the line: CGContextShowTextAtPoint(context, 2, 8, text1, strlen(text1)); It complains that error: cannot convert 'NSString*' to 'const char*' for argument '1' to 'size_t strlen(const char*)' Is there something I missed in the differences between ObjC and ObjC++?

  • iTextSharp table alignment

  • UIImagePickerController weirdness ...

    - by John Michael Zorko
    Hello, all ... UIImagePickerController is easy to use, but i'm all of a sudden finding it exasperating when I didn't find it so before. What's happening is that sometimes the imagePickerController:didFinishPickingImage:editingInfo delegate method does not seem to work -- the image will not show in the UIImageView even after the assignment was made. Sometimes it will, sometimes not, and furthermore, every single bit of example code i've tried (from the web, from the "Beginning iPhone 3 Development" book, etc.) exhibits the same problem. I'm at a loss as to why, and the problem happens on both my iPhone 3G as well as my 3GS, so I doubt that it's a hardware issue. These devices are running OS 3.1.2. The view controller is loaded from a xib file that contains one button and the UIImageView. I'd really like someone to tell me what stupid thing i'm obviously doing wrong :-) Here is the code -- i've tried to make the smallest app I could that exhibits the problem: #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface imagepickerViewController : UIViewController <UINavigationControllerDelegate, UIImagePickerControllerDelegate> { IBOutlet UIButton *button; IBOutlet UIImageView *imageView; } @property (nonatomic, retain) UIImageView *imageView; - (IBAction)takepic; - (void)usePic:(UIImage *)pic; @end #import "imagepickerViewController.h" @implementation imagepickerViewController @synthesize imageView; - (IBAction)takepic { if ([UIImagePickerController isSourceTypeAvailable:UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera]) { UIImagePickerController *picker = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; picker.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; picker.delegate = self; [self presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES]; [picker release]; } } - (void)imagePickerController:(UIImagePickerController *)picker didFinishPickingImage:(UIImage *)image editingInfo:(NSDictionary *)info { [self usePic:image]; [picker dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; // after this method returns, the UIImageView should show the image -- yet very often it does not ... } - (void)imagePickerControllerDidCancel:(UIImagePickerController *)picker { [picker dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } - (void)usePic:(UIImage *)picture { imageView.image = picture; } @end

  • Simple Remote Shared Object with Red5 Flash Server

    - by John Russell
    Hello, I am trying to create a simple chat client using the red5 media server, but I seem to be having a slight hiccup. I am creating a shared object on the server side, and it seems to be creating it successfully. However, when I make changes to the object via the client (type a message), the SYNC event fires, but the content within the shared object remains empty. • How to avoid "Page Expired" messages on logout with Wicket after redirect

    - by John
    Hi there. I'm taking my first steps in to the world of Wicket. I've set up a login form and a logout page. The logout page looks like this: public class LogoutPage extends WebPage { public LogoutPage(final PageParameters pageParams) { getSession().invalidate(); setResponsePage(getApplication().getHomePage()); } } When a user clicks the Logout link they're redirected to the homepage, so far so good. The problem is that when a user tries to click on any of the navigatable Link's they get a "Page Expired" message. I'd like to log the user out gracefully and allow the user to continue to browse the website without receiving the "Page Expired" message. Any help is greatly appreciated. By the way, I've tried to follow the Wicket examples but they seem to be using org.apache.wicket.authentication and I haven't figured out how to make this available to my project (I'm using eclipse and maven2).

  • What is the equivalent of OnRender in Silverlight?

    - by John Weldon
    I'm working on porting an app from WPF to Silverlight. The app uses custom types derived from FrameworkElement (in WPF) to describe shapes, and text to be rendered on a Canvas. The WPF app root node overrides OnRender() to iterate through a collection of 'child' nodes, calling Render on each child node to build the Visual Tree. Silverlight doesn't expose OnRender, but there are hints that the same effect can be achieved using ControlTemplate. Is this the way to go, and are there any good examples of using this method available? I've done some googling (binging?) and found nothing really conclusive.

  • What is the best Battleship AI?

    - by John Gietzen
    Battleship! Back in 2003, (when I was 17,) I competed in a Battleship AI coding competition. Even though I lost that tournament, I had a lot of fun and learned a lot from it. Now, I would like to resurrect this competition, in the search of the best battleship AI. Here is the framework: Battleship.zip The winner will be awarded +450 reputation! The competition will be held starting on the 17th of November, 2009. No entries or edits later than zero-hour on the 17th will be accepted. (Central Standard Time) Submit your entries early, so you don't miss your opportunity! To keep this OBJECTIVE, please follow the spirit of the competition. Rules of the game: The game is be played on a 10x10 grid. Each competitor will place each of 5 ships (of lengths 2, 3, 3, 4, 5) on their grid. No ships may overlap, but they may be adjacent. The competitors then take turns firing single shots at their opponent. A variation on the game allows firing multiple shots per volley, one for each surviving ship. The opponent will notify the competitor if the shot sinks, hits, or misses. Game play ends when all of the ships of any one player are sunk. Rules of the competition: The spirit of the competition is to find the best Battleship algorithm. Anything that is deemed against the spirit of the competition will be grounds for disqualification. Interfering with an opponent is against the spirit of the competition. Multithreading may be used under the following restrictions: No more than one thread may be running while it is not your turn. (Though, any number of threads may be in a "Suspended" state). No thread may run at a priority other than "Normal". Given the above two restrictions, you will be guaranteed at least 3 dedicated CPU cores during your turn. A limit of 1 second of CPU time per game is allotted to each competitor on the primary thread. Running out of time results in losing the current game. Any unhandled exception will result in losing the current game. Network access and disk access is allowed, but you may find the time restrictions fairly prohibitive. However, a few set-up and tear-down methods have been added to alleviate the time strain. Code should be posted on stack overflow as an answer, or, if too large, linked. Max total size (un-compressed) of an entry is 1 MB. Officially, .Net 2.0 / 3.5 is the only framework requirement. Your entry must implement the IBattleshipOpponent interface. Scoring: Best 51 games out of 101 games is the winner of a match. All competitors will play matched against each other, round-robin style. The best half of the competitors will then play a double-elimination tournament to determine the winner. (Smallest power of two that is greater than or equal to half, actually.) I will be using the TournamentApi framework for the tournament. The results will be posted here. If you submit more than one entry, only your best-scoring entry is eligible for the double-elim. Good luck! Have fun! EDIT 1: Thanks to Freed, who has found an error in the Ship.IsValid function. It has been fixed. Please download the updated version of the framework. EDIT 2: Since there has been significant interest in persisting stats to disk and such, I have added a few non-timed set-up and tear-down events that should provide the required functionality. This is a semi-breaking change. That is to say: the interface has been modified to add functions, but no body is required for them. Please download the updated version of the framework. EDIT 3: Bug Fix 1: GameWon and GameLost were only getting called in the case of a time out. Bug Fix 2: If an engine was timing out every game, the competition would never end. Please download the updated version of the framework. EDIT 4: Results!

  • Could not open Selected VM debug port (8700)

    - by John Gaby
    I am trying to debug the android source using Eclipse by following the instructions found at: http://source.android.com/using-eclipse I have downloaded the source, and gotten it to build. I follow the directions in the link above and everything is fine until I run the ddms command. At this point, if Eclipse is running I get the error 'Could not open Selected VM debug port (8700)'. If I close Eclipse, then ddms runs with no problem, and I can the the processes on the emulator. However, if I now open Eclipse, I get the same error. In any case, no matter what I do, if I attempt to remote debug, it always fails with 'Failed to connect to remote VM'. Any ideas? Thanks

  • Problems connecting to WCF Service via NetNamedPipeBinding

    - by John
    I'm having trouble figuring out how to get a named pipe WCF service to work. The service is in a seperate assembly from the executable. The config looks like this: <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <netNamedPipeBinding> <binding name="NoSecurityIPC"> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </netNamedPipeBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint name="internal" address="channel1" binding="netNamedPipeBinding" bindingConfiguration="NoSecurityIPC" contract="conplement.TimeService.ICpTimeService" /> </client> <services> <service name="cpTimeService"> <host> <baseAddresses> <add baseAddress="net.pipe://localhost/" /> </baseAddresses> </host> <endpoint address="channel1" binding="netNamedPipeBinding" bindingConfiguration="NoSecurityIPC" contract="conplement.TimeService.ICpTimeService" /> </service> </services> </system.serviceModel> I'm using a ChannelFactory to create a proxy to access the service host: ServiceHost h = new ServiceHost(typeof(TimeService), new Uri("net.pipe://localhost/")); h.AddServiceEndpoint(typeof(ITimeService), new NetNamedPipeBinding("NoSecurityIPC"), "net.pipe://localhost/"); h.Open(); ChannelFactory<ITimeService> factory = new ChannelFactory<ITimeService>("channel1", new EndpointAddress(new Uri("net.pipe://localhost/"))); ICpTimeService proxy = factory.CreateChannel(); using (proxy as IDisposable) { this.ds = proxy.LoadData(); } I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong when I create the ChannelFactory. It can't seem to find the "channel1" in the config. When I create my binding manually and pass it to the ChannelFactory constructor, the factory and the proxy are created but the call to the LoadData() fails (times out). Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong here?

  • Scheme homework help

    - by John
    Okay so I have started a new language in class. We are learning Scheme and i'm not sure on how to do it. When I say learning a new language, I mean thrown a homework and told to figure it out. A couple of them have got me stumped. My first problem is: Write a Scheme function that returns true (the Boolean constant #t) ifthe parameter is a list containing n a's followed by n b's. and false otherwise. Here's what I have right now: (define aequalb (lamda (list) (let ((head (car list)) (tail(cdr list))) (if(= 'a head) ((let ((count (count + 1))) (let (( newTail (aequalb tail)))) #f (if(= 'b head) ((let ((count (count - 1))) (let (( newTail (aequalb tail)))) #f (if(null? tail) (if(= count 0) #t #f))))))))))) I know this is completely wrong, but I've been trying so please take it easy on me. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Legacy URL rewriting with query string parameters

    - by John Kaster
    I've looked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/817325/asp-net-mvc-routing-legacy-urls-passing-querystring-ids-to-controller-actions and several other similar posts for legacy URL routing, but I can't get past the error "The RouteData must contain an item named 'controller' with a non-empty string value." Looking this up on line didn't give me any hints to solve my problem. I've implemented the Legacy routing class described in the link above, and this is what I've defined in the routing table: routes.Add( "Legacy", new LegacyRoute("fooref.aspx", "FooRef", new LegacyRouteHandler()) ); routes.MapRoute( "FooRef", "{controller}/{action}", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", foo_id = UrlParameter.Optional, bar_id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); When I use Phil Haack's route debugger, it indicates that fooref.aspx has a match, but when I turn the route debugger off, I get the error above. If I reverse the statement order, I get "Resource not found" for /ctprefer.aspx, which makes sense -- so it appears to be finding that as a valid route when put in the other order. Where do I need to declare this missing controller reference? Have routing requirements changed for ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM?

  • C# Prevent ItemChecked event on a ListView from Interering with SubItemClicked?

    - by John M
    I am using a in-place editable listview control for a project. The editable listview adds a 'SubItemClicked' event so that each 'cell' can be edited. lstSD2.SubItemClicked += new ListViewEx.SubItemEventHandler(lstSD2_SubItemClicked); I also have the listview checkboxes enabled with a 'ItemChecked' event. The problem is that once the 'ItemChecked' event is enabled double-clicking on any row fires the 'ItemChecked' event and prevents the 'SubItemClicked' event from firing. Is there a way to enforce the need to actually 'check' the listview checkbox instead of firing whenever the row is double-clicked?

    I have an Employee entity which inherits from Person and OrganizationalUnit: OrganizationalUnit: @MappedSuperclass public abstract class OrganizationalUnit implements Serializable { @Id private Long id; @Basic( optional = false ) private String name; public Long getId() { return this.id; } public void setId( Long id ) { this.id = id; } public String getName() { return this.name; } public void setName( String name ) { this.name = name; } // ... } Person: @MappedSuperclass public abstract class Person extends OrganizationalUnit { private String lastName; private String firstName; public String getLastName() { return this.lastName; } public void setLastName( String lastName ) { this.lastName = lastName; } public String getFirstName() { return this.firstName; } public void setFirstName( String firstName ) { this.firstName = firstName; } /** * Returns names of the form "John Doe". */ @Override public String getName() { return this.firstName + " " + this.lastName; } @Override public void setName( String name ) { throw new UnsupportedOperationException( "Name cannot be set explicitly!" ); } /** * Returns names of the form "Doe, John". */ public String getFormalName() { return this.lastName + ", " + this.firstName; } // ... } Employee entity: @Entity @Table( name = "EMPLOYEES" ) @AttributeOverrides ( { @AttributeOverride( name = "id", column = @Column( name = "EMPLOYEE_ID" ) ), @AttributeOverride( name = "name", column = @Column( name = "LASTNAME", insertable = false, updatable = false ) ), @AttributeOverride( name = "firstName", column = @Column( name = "FIRSTNAME" ) ), @AttributeOverride( name = "lastName", column = @Column( name = "LASTNAME" ) ), } ) @NamedQueries ( { @NamedQuery( name = "Employee.FIND_BY_FORMAL_NAME", query = "SELECT emp " + "FROM Employee emp " + "WHERE emp.formalName = :formalName" ) } ) public class Employee extends Person { @Column( name = "EMPLOYEE_NO" ) private String nbr; // lots of other stuff... } I then attempted to find an employee by its formal name, e.g. "Doe, John" using the query above: SELECT emp FROM Employee emp WHERE emp.formalName = :formalName However, this gives me an exception on deploying to EclipseLink: Exception while preparing the app : Exception [EclipseLink-8030] (Eclipse Persistence Services - 2.3.2.v20111125-r10461): org.eclipse.persistence.exceptions.JPQLException Exception Description: Error compiling the query [Employee.FIND_BY_CLIENT_AND_FORMAL_NAME: SELECT emp FROM Employee emp JOIN FETCH emp.client JOIN FETCH emp.unit WHERE emp.client.id = :clientId AND emp.formalName = :formalName], line 1, column 115: unknown state or association field [formalName] of class [de.bnext.core.common.entity.Employee]. Local Exception Stack: Exception [EclipseLink-8030] (Eclipse Persistence Services - 2.3.2.v20111125-r10461): org.eclipse.persistence.exceptions.JPQLException Exception Description: Error compiling the query [Employee.FIND_BY_CLIENT_AND_FORMAL_NAME: SELECT emp FROM Employee emp JOIN FETCH emp.client JOIN FETCH emp.unit WHERE emp.client.id = :clientId AND emp.formalName = :formalName], line 1, column 115: unknown state or association field [formalName] of class [de.bnext.core.common.entity.Employee]. Qs: What's wrong? Is it prohibited to use "artificial" properties in JPQL, here the WHERE clause? What are the premises here? I checked the capitalization and spelling many times, I'm out of luck.
