  • MVC for web development: Sign-up form?

    How would I go about implementing a signup form using the MVC pattern for a website (I'm using PHP)? I think the controller should receive the POST data initially. Then probably some interation with the model might need to take place (if the user successfully signs up). Then I think the signup form view would be called, and a value would be passed in saying whether or not the signup was successful. Stuff I need help with: Where do I do input validation (ie. proper email address formatting)? How do I check to make sure the username is unique? Is the rest of my description alright? How would you go about doing an MVC website signup form?

  • MVC + Repository Pattern - Still depends on Data Model?

    I've started a project for school in which I am using ASP.NET MVC 2 + LINQ2SQL, and a business layer so my UI doesnt interact with the DB directly. My question is this: In my MVC project, when bringing up views and passing around data, I still have to include my Data project for access to the classes in my Linq2Sql project. Is this correct? Example: Controller: ClassesRepository cr = new ClassesRepository(); // this is from my Business project Class classToEdit = cr.GetByClassId(id); // "Class" is from my data project I still have to reference the Class class in my linq2sql data project - shouldn't my UI be completely independent of my data layer? Or maybe I'm going about this all wrong.

  • Need advice on multitab form in ASP.NET MVC

    Hi all, i need an advice on how to implement my form. I have a requirement: i need a form that spans through 5 tabs. Each tab has around 10 fields, some of them empty, some of them must contain data from db and be non editable. Each of these tabs must be a part of one form that is submitted to my controller. The question is: what is the best way to implement this? I was thinking about having partial views on each tab, each view would have its own model class. After form gets filled all data from all partials would go to action that will take care of all of it. Any advices? I am using ASP.NET MVC 1, Entity Framework 1, mvc extensions from Telerik and jQuery

  • Zend Framework 2 without MVC

    I'm currently using Zend Framework 2 for all my web tier development using the MVC module that's shipped with the framework. However, I want to implement my business logic in a separate layer, call it the business tier which is a non HTTP layer and expose it through AMQP, and I'd like to reuse my knowledge of PHP for implementing this. Since there is a lot of "stuff" that I need in this business layer such as configuration, a service manager, database access, etc, etc, I'd like to use all the goodies shipped with Zend Framework 2 for this. Are there any examples or tutorials out there on how to build a Zend Framework 2 application that is not build for the web tier and doesn't require the MVC module?

    Lives Video Editor fails to start, all plugins load, but program then hangs when starting pulse audio server. Lives Video Editor: http://lives.sourceforge.net/ Pulseaudio is installed and the daemon is running.   • Kendo Grid: Foreign Key Dropdown does not update grid cell after update

    I have a Kendo MVC grid that contains a nullable property (short) that is bound as a foreign key and uses a dropdown list as an editor template. I am also using inline editing. When the property value is null, the dropdown list selected value does not get set into the grid cell after the update button is clicked. This works fine if incell editing is used. I am looking for a workaround that will solve my problem. I am including a stripped down version of my code below Everything works if the nullable value is set to a non-null value.   • NerdDinner routing

    I watched Scot hanselmann's presentation at mix '10. When he presented the tiny urls for Nerddinner he said it was a 2 part process. a) modify global.asax.cs with a new route b)some sort of isapi rewrite. When I implemented this in my asp.net mvc 2 site I only did part a. and it works. why then did he do part b?? what is the advantages of doing that???

  • Why is Html.DropDownList() producing <select name="original_name.name"> instead of just <select name

    I have an editor template whose job is to take a SelectList as its model and build a select element in html using the Html.DropDownList() helper extension. I'm trying to assign the name attribute for the select based on a ModelMetadata property. (Reason: on post-back, I need to bind to an object that has a different property name for this item than the ViewModel used to populate the form.) The problem I'm running into is that DropDownList() is appending the name I'm providing instead of replacing it, so I end up with names like categories.category instead of category. Here is some code for you to look at...   • What is the web.debug.config and web.release.config file for?

    Hi, I just upgraded to VS 2010 and MVC 2.0 and I noticed the web.config has two additional files attached to it? Are thee files used to specify debug and release specific settings, so you don't clutter up the main web.config? Does it even make sense to place a connection string in the root web.config file if I have have a local and remote one in the debug and release web.configs respectively. Thanks!

    I have a textbox in my View. I input a number into the textbox, and then i want the controller to multiply the number and put the result into the textbox. How can I do that? This is what i have done already. Yeah, I see the Post is being done, and the coded steps into public ActionResult Index(int number). I see that the number is taken from the textbox, it's multiplied correctly. I've tried using ViewData as you can see. I've also used TempData. This is another code for the textbox in the View I've tried: <%=Html.TextBox("number", ViewData["number"])%> But it doesn't matter. The textbox doesn't get updated with the new value. How can I do that?

  • How can I include an external JavaScript file exactly once per partial view?

    I have a partial view (UserControl) that implements a simple pager in my Asp.Net MVC project. This pager needs access to a .js file that needs to be included exactly once, regardless of how many instances of the pager control are present on the parent page. I've tried to use Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptInclude, but it had no effect (I assume because the code nugget was evaluated too late to impact the head control). Is there any simple alternative?

    How do I show the username of the person logged in within a Spark View? The default MVC view engine had a Page object that you could get the info from. How would I do that in spark? I know that I could put the info into the viewdata dictionary, which is probably the best, but I don't want to have to write ViewData["User"] = myUser; before I return from EVERY action method.   • How to rewrite a path using a custom HttpHandler

    I'm writing a multi-tenant app that will receive requests like http://www.tenant1.com/content/images/logo.gif and http://www.anothertenant.com/content/images/logo.gif. I want the requests to actually map to the folder location /content/tenant1/images/logo.gif and /content/anothertenant/images/logo.gif I'm using asp.net Mvc 2 so I'm sure there's probably a way to setup a route to handle this or a custom route handler? And I set up some default pages like: /Loa/Register /Loa/About But when I request for /Loa/sdfqsdf (random string) I get the "The resource cannot be found." error, how can I redirect this non-existing action to a default action? Like an "action not found" default action? thx!
