  • copy windows registry and/or other locked files

    Hi. While improving my (personal) backup system, I noticed, that I cannot copy certain locked files, like the windows registry files. Is there a way to copy such things? Or a specific solution for the registry (I know of the regedit-File-Export ,,solution'' but this is to text format and seems slow). AFAIK, On Linux the locking system is advisory and on Windows it is mandatory. Can I somehow bypass the mandatory-ness for backup purposes etc.? TIA.

    Let's say I have a daily maintainance task that: Backups all databases and then removes backups that are older than 3 days. Now let's say the first backup at day 1, starting at 10:00, results in the following files db1.bak 2012-01-01 10:04 db2.bak 2012-01-01 10:06 Now let's say at day 4 the first step of the maintainance task (backup the DBs) happens to finish at 10:05. Will SQL Server delete db1.bak and keep db2.bak (would be logical, but might be surprising for the user) or keep both or remove both?

  • Windows 7 Ultimate Restore From Another Machine

    The situation I have an old machine running Windows Server 2008. I make a backup of selected directories. New Machine: I install Windows 7 Ultimate (and Windows Server 2008 [dual boot]) I cannot restore those files that I backed-up on the old machine. On the New machine neither the Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 Restore (Recovery) can 'see' the backup files even though they are on the local machine. Is this behaviour (non-behaviour) 'by design' or am I missing something?

  • ArcServer creates additional jobs

    We're running CA ARCserve Backup r12.5 (Build 5854) - Small Business Server Edition on our Small Business Server 2008. There is a daily job which saves the systemdrive, exchange and 3 databases to our backup storage. It seems like this daily job creates these additional jobs every time it runs. I don't know why it's doing this. Can anybody tell me why this is happening? (I'm sorry this screenshot is in german... "Ergänzungsjob" means something like "extensionjob" or "additionjob")

    I need a tool to automatically backup my Drupal installations from my server to my laptop. In other terms, I need to copy 1 folder (all my Drupals are inside this folder) and all databases. So I was wondering if I just need to write a script on my laptop connecting to the server every week copying the folder with all mysql databases informing me by email if the backup has been succesfull do you know if I can find some tutorial for it ? or download such script ? thanks

    Hello, I have Data protection manager (DPM) 2010. I did a backup of my system which has been saved into different partitions. The computer running DPM crashed and is not allowing me to restore the backup. However, i still have all the backups as partitions.     One of the very few reasons I have to physically interact with my Windows Home Server is to back it up to an external hard drive, with the "Backup Server" feature. It would be more convenient to plug the external drive in to a desktop PC, and then do the backup over the network. Is there a way to do this? I've heard a little about iSCSI, but as far as I can tell it costs money, and I'm hoping for something free.

    I'm creating a simple datebase backup solution for a client using web hosting at DataFlame. The web hosting account provides access to cron but not a shell. I have a database backup script creating regular backups and I want to automatically remove those more than N days old. I attempted to use find -v $backup_dir -mtime +$keep_days -name "*db.tar.gz" -delete however the user executing the script does not have permission to run find. Can you suggest how to implement this without using the find command?

Certain files cannot be player through the Internet. I have a set of mp3s, playing one after the other. Randomly one mp3 doesn't work throwing above exception. Some mp3s can be played by calling again play() method if javazoom's basicplayer, but others can never be played online.     I often use the MSDN website for language reference. In order to make navigation faster, I downloaded the offline version of SQL Server 2005 Books Online from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=be6a2c5d-00df-4220-b133-29c1e0b6585f&displaylang=en The reason why it is 137MB is that it comes with its own GUI, which, not surprisingly, is rather poor! Apparently though, the pages are written in html. The URIs look like: ms-help://MS.SQLCC.v9/sqlcc9/html/674933a8-e423-4d44-a39b-2a997e2c2333.htm . I can open the URI in IE, but with errors. Do you know if I can open them with Firefox and how? Or is there a simple HTML version of "MS Books Online", for example in a ZIP file?

Then for that HD goodness, what really allows a computer to smoothly stream 720p and 1080p? I'm not too sure whether it's to do with the CPU (speed, # cores, cache size), GPU (chipset, VRAM, memory type) or even HDD (IDE vs SATA). What contributes to the ability to stream regular videos and, furthermore, high-definition videos online?

  • How To Find Reasons of Why Site Goes Online/Offline

    Seems today a website I manage has been going online and offline throughout the entire day. I have no idea what is causing the issue so I am seeking guidance on where to start. It is a Wordpress based site. So here is what I DO know: I use a program that pings the server every minute and when the server is not responding me it emails me, so I can know exactly when the site is online and offline. The site between 8pm to 12pm 12.28, and around the 1a hour early morning 12.29 (New York City timezone, and all times below are in same timezone). At the time of the ups/downs I see a lot of strain on the memory usage. Look at the load average when the site is going online/offline (http://screencast.com/t/BRlfXkqrbJII). Then I ran this command to restart http (http://screencast.com/t/usVtYWZ2Qi) and the memory usage then goes down to this (http://screencast.com/t/VdTIy3bgZiQB). An hour after I restarted http, the site then went offline/online so restarting the http didn't do much help. When the site is going offline/online, I ran the top command and get this (http://screencast.com/t/zEwr7YQj3). Here is a top command when the site is at it's lowest (http://screencast.com/t/eaMfha9lbT - so this would be dubbged "normal"). Here is a bandwidth report (http://screencast.com/t/AS0h2CH1Gypq). The traffic doesn't seem to be that much (http://screencast.com/t/s7hrWNNic1K), but looking at my times the site is going up/down this may be one of the reasons? I have the dvp Nitro package at Media Temple (http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/nitro/). So at this point I would request some help in trying to figure out what the cause of this is, and how I can go about pinpointing this issue. ANY HELP is greatly appreciated.
