• IE: Undocumented "cache" attribute defined for input elements?

  Hi everybody. I've stumpled upon a strange behavior in IE(6/7/8) that drives me nuts. Given the following markup: <input type="text" value="foo" class="bar" cache="yes" send="no" /> Please note that the cache attribute is set to yes. However IE somehow manages to change the attributes value to cache="cache" when rendering the DOM. So, I wonder, is there an undocumented feature that I'm not aware of? I've googled about an hour now but couldn't find any info on this (not even on MSDN). NOTE I'm aware that adding custom attributes is non-standard compliant and that boolean attributes should be noted as attribute="attribute. Nevertheless I have to cope with these as they were introduced long before I joined the team. These custom attributes are used in conjunction with javascript to provide a more user friendly approach to form handling (and it works out quite well with Firefox/Safari/Opera/Chrome). I know that I could simply convert these custom attributes to x-data attributes that will be introduced with HTML5 but that would take me several hours of extra work - sigh. • How to install DBD::mysql on OS X Server 10.6?

  Trying to install DBD::mysql on OS X Server 10.6 (mac mini server). But I'm missing the mysql headers apparently. Since mysql is already part of OS X Server 10.6, I would like to NOT install anything else (no fink or darwin ports installs), just whatever's needed to get DBD::mysql installed and working. Do you know how I could do that? Do I have to install the headers somewhere? And if so, where? (again: I don't want to install another version of mysql on the box, want to use the version it came with). Is there a way to install DBD::mysql without compiling any C files? • Absolute positioned div jumps outside containing div in IE7

  Having trouble with a couple of display issues in IE7. Firstly, my large text headers display too far up in Internet Explorer (all pages) Secondly, my descriptions on my Portfolio pages end up outside their containing divs. Works great on FF/Chrome/Opera/Safari though! You'll see what I mean: http://bit.ly/a3hUD4 (I've used bitly so my dumb questions don't show up when someone googles my website). I've googled extensively. Not sure if problem number 2 is a overflow issue, or a absolute positioning bug in IE. • Can't play wav file from Javascript in Firefox for Mac

  I have the following html file that plays a wav file when the user hovers over the 'Play' anchor tag. • django url user id versus userprofile id problem

  hello there, i have a mini comunity where each user can search and find another user profile. Userprofile is a class model, indexed differently compared to user model class (user id is not equal to userprofile id) But i cannot see a user profile by typing in the url the corresponding id. I only see the profile of the currently logged in user. Why is that? I'd also want to have in my url the username (a primary key of the user table also) and NOT the id (a number).   I have an HTML table, and each row has a checkbox for selecting or deselecting its row. Whenever a checkbox changes value, I need to add or remove highlighting to the row and also ensure that the page's submit button is only enabled when at least one row is selected and disabled otherwise. However, IE 7 does not handle keyboard interaction well (mouse interaction works fine). The problem is that if a checkbox has the focus and I hit the spacebar, the checkbox doesn't get checked -- instead it gets half checked (it has the same shadowed appearance that it would get immediately after a mousedown). I have to press the spacebar a second time to actually check the box. Similarly, it requires two key presses to uncheck it. Oddly enough, if I hold down the spacebar for a few moments, then a single press works as expected. Can anyone explain what is going on here? Is there something I'm doing wrong in the JavaScript code that is causing this behavior? How can I fix this?

• lightweight webserver to integrate on client end.

  Hi ,... I need to create a python module that will be installed on end-user machines. One of the scripts in that module should be able to receive http POSTS (usually with some JSON formatted data in the body) and then pass on that data to an appropriate python script. I can think of two ways to do this: a) Open a listening server socket on port 80, wait for that http request to come in, parse it and then pass that data to another python script depending on the url that arrived. This method will not require the end-user to install a webserver. End user only has to install the python module. b) Have a mini-webserver installed along with the python module. The webserver will do the same job as [a] via CGI without me requiring to write the CGI functionality. But then the user will have to install the web-server (ie., the hassle of yet another install). Would like to avoid that if possible. IF [b] is the easier option, what is the smallest simplest webserver there is (preferably one that can be packaged as part of the python module itself so that it does not have to be separately installed). • Why won't VS2010 RC use my existing types when I add a service reference?

  I have a huge problem getting services references in VS2010 RC to use existing assemblies. Even though I have a class library with all the data contracts (classes marked with DataContract and properties with DataMember) that is shared between the service project and the consuming project (which is a class library), when I add a service reference, the data contracts are regenerated withing the service reference instead of using the existing types. When I was using VS2010 beta 2, this worked fine, and I have existing service references using the very same data contracts. But if I add a new service reference, or even update an old one, it won't use the existing types anymore. I have made a mini-test-solution, with one service, one data contract type and one console app as a consumer (all in the same solution), and there it seems to work, but that's no great comfort to me. Is there any way to see why it can't use the existing types? Edit to clearify. It works to generate the proxy classes with svcutil.exe, and point to the data contracts dll, like this: svcutil.exe http://localhost/MyService.svc /reference:[Path To DataContracts]\DataContracts.dll /n:*,MyProject.MyServiceReference /ct:System.Collections.Generic.List`1 The question is, what possible reason could there be for Visual Studio to generate its own datacontracts instead of using the existing ones even though the "reuse" checkbox is checked and the datacontracts assembly is referenced.

• Rails 3 get raw post data and write it to tmp file

  I'm working on implementing Ajax-Upload for uploading photos in my Rails 3 app. The documentation says: For IE6-8, Opera, older versions of other browsers you get the file as you normally do with regular form-base uploads. For browsers which upload file with progress bar, you will need to get the raw post data and write it to the file. So, how can I receive the raw post data in my controller and write it to a tmp file so my controller can then process it? (In my case the controller is doing some image manipulation and saving to S3.) Some additional info: As I'm configured right now the post is passing these parameters: Parameters: {"authenticity_token"=>"...", "qqfile"=>"IMG_0064.jpg"} ... and the CREATE action looks like this: def create @attachment = Attachment.new @attachment.user = current_user @attachment.file = params[:qqfile] if @attachment.save! respond_to do |format| format.js { render :text => '{"success":true}' } end end end ... but I get this error: ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid (Validation failed: File file name must be set.): app/controllers/attachments_controller.rb:7:in `create'

  I am implementing a simple RoR webpage that collect emails from visitors and store them as objects. I'm using it as a mini-project to try RoR and BDD. I can think of 3 features for Cucumber: 1. User submits a valid email address 2. User submits an existing email address 3. User submits an invalid email My question is, for scenarios 2 and 3, is it better to handle this via the controller? or as methods in a class? Perhaps something that throws errors if an instance is instantiated in sceanrio 2 or 3? Implementation is below, love to hear some code reviews in addition to answers to questions above. Thanks! I'm wondering why this is so.

• jQuery error when aborting an ajax call only in Internet Explorer

  When mousing over an image in a jcarousel, my site displays a popup whose contents are loaded via ajax. I'm doing what I thought was fairly straightforward; keeping a handle to the xhrRequest object, and aborting the existing one before making a new request. • C++ stack for multiple data types (RPN vector calculator)

  Hello: I have designed a quick and basic vector arithmetic library in C++. I call the program from the command line when I need a rapid cross product, or angle between vectors. I don't use Matlab or Octave or related, because the startup time is larger than the computation time. Again, this is for very basic operations. I am extending this program, and I will make it work as an RPN calculator, for operations of the type: 1 2 3 4 5 6 x out: -3 6 -3 (give one vector, another vector, and the "cross" operator; spit out the cross product) The stack must accept 3d vectors or scalars, for operations like: 1 2 3 2 * out: 2 4 6 The lexer and parser for this mini-calculator are trivial, but I cannot seem to think of a good way for creating the internal stack. How would you create a stack of for containing vectors or doubles (I rolled up my own very simple vector class - less than one hundred lines and it does everything I need). How can I create a simple stack which accepts elements of class Vector or type double? Thank you.

• Jquery UI Dialog - when opened IE7 Browser moves instantly to the bottom of the page

  Hello, i have been working on a new .net MVC site and have integrated some of the awesome jquery UI components. ive been testing it in IE8, FF, opera and Chrome and all looks well. Once I test in IE7, surprisingly its the dialogs that are causing a problem. basically what’s happening is that one you user clicks to open a dialog the page will scroll immediately to the bottom of the page. This is especially bad if the page is quite long. this only happens in IE7 (and probably 6 but im not even going there!). I have spend a few hours reading forums and it seems im not the only one. • Firefox/vista not showing div tag

  Hi, I have a div tag which should be displayed at the bottom of a page given a set of circumstances. On my machine XP/IE, chrome, firefox, opera (all latest versions) the div shows up fine. But on my bosses machine, running vista with Firefox 3.6 for some reason the div tag is not showing up. However, if i go to another machine with vista and firefox the div tag shows up fine. My question is, what could have been set in firefox that would cause this div tag to now be displayed. • IE7 is clipping my text. How do I adjust its attitude?

  Hi All, A few days ago I re-skinned my website, http://emle.nl. Development of this skin was primarily done using safari, and as expected, it all renders fine using firefox and opera. I've had to make a few small tweaks for IE7, but nothing much, except for one problem... The date indicators for a post are cut off in IE. This problem seems to occur only on nested span tags inside a left floating div. I think I need the floating div's in order to layout text on the left and the right side of the screen. Anyhow, I've summarized it into a small test case, located at http://emle.nl/test.html. In the different browsers, it looks like this. Of course safari and firefox get this right: Do any of you know how to stop IE7 from clipping my text? Edit: I have sort of given up on this problem. My scripts now check for IE7 and feed it somewhat simplified HTML that its limited engine can handle. It works in IE8, so, for now, just the special case for IE7 will have to do...
