• Redirect batch stderr to file

  I have a batch file that executes a java application. I'm trying to modify it so that whenever an exception occurs, it'll write the STDERR out to a file. It looks something like this: start java something.jar method %1 %2 2>> log.txt Is there a way I can write the arguments %1 and %2 to the log.txt file as well? I don't want to write it to the log file everytime this batch file gets called, only when an exception occurs. I tried searching for a way to redirect STDERR into a variable, but I couldn't figure it out. Ideally I'd like the log file to look something like: Batch file called with parameters: - "first arg" - "second arg" Exception: java.io.exception etc... ------------------------------------ Batch file called with parameters: - "first arg" - "second arg" Exception: java.io.exception etc...

• Auto-execute command after going to a folder with the CD command

  Is it possible to auto-execute a command in a folder if you move to it via the cd command? Of course I can define my own command (e.g. CHD.BAT) doing something like this: @echo off cd %1 if exist init.bat ( init.bat ) else ( color 0F title Command Prompt ) But I wonder if something like this would be possible using the standard CD command.

• WPF MenuItem ViewModel Command

  Hi, I am fairly new to WPF and am struggling a little with a scenario. I have a menu which has menu items. When one of these menu items gets clicked a method needs to be called that will do something based upon the text displayed associated with that menu item. So for example, the menu item's content was "test" so I would need to do something with "test". FYI, this "something" directly affects a collection on the ViewModel. This is easy to achieve using the click event and no ViewModel, but I was trying to implement MVVM using an explicit ViewModel. So I started to look into Commands but cannot see how I would pass anything from the View back into the Command in the ViewModel. Any suggestions on what I should be doing here? Thanks

• can't open Evolution mail in Ubuntu

  I have an issue with Evolution mail in Ubuntu. Evolution opens up, starts downloading emails asoon as I click on something in Evolution it closes down, I know there are about 2000 mails that need to be downloaded. And sometimes Evolution comes back again and if I click something in evolution it disappears again. I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. This happened since I added two extra email accounts? Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thx

• Ensuring all git commits make it back to CVS when using git-cvs

  I'm using git-cvs, and my general workflow is something like this: ...write some code... $ git commit $ git cvsexportcommit -c -p -v <asdf> $ git cvs-import $CVSROOT $ git pull This generally works fine for pushing my commits back to the CVS server and keeping things in sync. However, I'm wondering how I will realize that something is missing if I happen to do the "git commit" but forget to export it to the CVS server. Is there a reasonable way to get a diff between my git repository and the CVS server, so I would know that something hadn't been committed all the way through? Or perhaps there's a better method of doing this altogether?

  Imagine I have something like the following text: The quick brown fox jumps in 2012 and 2013 And I would wish to delete the part from "fox" including the four numbers but only in the first occurrence so I end up with: The quick brown and 2013 Something likes this...: echo "The quick brown fox jumps in 2012 and 2013" \ | sed "s/fox.*\([0-9]\{4\}\)//g" ...brings me: The quick brown So it removed everything including the last occurrence of the four numbers. Any ideas?

• Can you access registers from python functions in vim

  It seems vims python sripting is designed to edit buffer and files rather than work nicely with vims registers. You can use some of the vim packages commands to get access to the registers but its not pretty. My solution for creating a vim function using python that uses a register is something like this. function printUnnamedRegister() python >> EOF print vim.eval('@@') EOF Setting registers may also be possible using something like function setUnnamedRegsiter() python >> EOF s = "Some \"crazy\" string\nwith interesting characters" vim.command('let @@="%s"' % myescapefn(s) ) EOF However this feels a bit cumbersome and I'm not sure exactly what myescapefn should be. So I've never been able to get the setting version to work properly.   How do you prevent a new event handling to start when an event handling is already running? I press a button1 and event handler start e.g. slow printing job. There are several controls in form buttons, edits, combos and I want that a new event allowed only after running handler is finnished. I have used fRunning variable to lock handler in shared event handler. • Code editor skins?

  This is a kind of unorthodox question. Frankly, I won't lie to you. I am new to programming and am planning to improve myself. I enjoy coding but I need something to keep me going during the down times, so my question is: Is there such a thing as a code editor skin? A compiler skin? For example, you have the Command Prompt, it has a black background with white writing, it seems geeky, exactly what I want. I want a compiler that looks like command prompt...black with white writing (or green) or still has color coding (some compilers change color of text based on command). Yes, this is mainly for boasting, but I don't want to show someone something that basically looks like a text editor, I just want something that looks a little cooler. P.S (This question may seem a little unnecessary, it is because it is my first question, I'd like to warm up to this community before I start asking some real questions about code.)

• Switching from LinqToXYZ to LinqToObjects

I often use this pattern: collectionofsomestuff //here it's LinqToEntities .Select(something=>new{something.Name,something.SomeGuid}) .ToArray() //From here on it's LinqToObjects .Select(s=>new SelectListItem() { Text = s.Name, Value = s.SomeGuid.ToString(), Selected = false }) Perhaps I'd split it over a couple of lines, but essentially, at the ToArray point, I'm effectively enumerating my query and storing the resulting sequence so that I can further process it with all the goodness of a full CLR to hand. As I have no interest in any kind of manipulation of the intermediate list, I use ToArray over ToList as there's less overhead. I do this all the time, but I wonder if there is a better pattern for this kind of problem?

• BSD Sockets don't behave in a iPhone 3G environment

  I noticed that many times while developing for an iPhone 3G, BSD socket functions will simply fail. I also noticed at the time, the 3G antenna wasn't even ON, nor was there WIFI Access to back up the network call (So it seems ridiculous that it doesn't turn on to support the network request).. This information was verified with an app from Apple in the SDK called Connectivity Test, or something of the sort. Basically if you load Safari or something, then quickly load up the App it would be fine.. Of course that's not ideal. Apparently, to apple, gethostbyname() or something of the sort is by no means a reason to turn on the Antenna. I contacted Apple about this, and they said that the BSD functions do not switch the Antenna on, but calling all of the Objective-C CFNetwork functions do. I want portable code, so is there a way to keep my existing BSD setup? I really dislike coding in Objective-C, so if anyone knows a work around, that would be awesome.

• SQL DATEDIFF Not working!?

  Hi all, I am running a simple DATEDIFF query but it doesn't seem to calculate the days properly or i'm doing something wrong. If I run PRINT DATEDIFF(Day, 2010-01-20, 2010-01-01) RETURN 19 Which is correct. If i change the month in the first date to Feb (02) I get something strange. PRINT DATEDIFF(Day, 2010-02-20, 2010-01-01) RETURN 20 Now shouldn't it be 48 or something? Can anyone see what i'm doing wrong or is this not the correct function to be using if I want the No of days between these dates? I've tried taking one date from the other: PRINT (2010-02-20) - (2010-01-01) RETURN -20 Any help much appreciated. Thanks J.

  So, right now I've got a number of columns the user can sort by (Name, County, Active) and that's easy but messy. Looks something like this... I've tired Func(Of stuff, boolean) (got something in c# that works nicely like that) but can't seem to get this one to do what I want. Ideas? What's the magic syntax?

• Python repl in python application

  Hello i am learning python(so i can use qt with python not only c++) and i'm curios if it would be possible to embed a python interpreter in my application as a repl. I would like to give users to possibility to script the app using python either loading a file (and that file to act as a plugin for the app) or by evaluating code entered in a text box or something like that. Just like you can embed the interpreter in C or C++ and script the app using python can this be done if the application is itself written in python(and made a stand-alone binary using py2exe or something similar)? something like Anders did with the C# repl or Miguel with mono.   hey all, im trying to implement a custom error page, what i want to be able to do is have a single generic error page which can display the error which occurred or other information (custom error message). when a error occurs on the website, the user should be directed to this page which shows the error message. so for example if i had a page which was trying to update something to a database, but something went wrong, i should be redirected to the error page which will have some custom text like something like " there has been an error with bla bla bla ... please contact administrator". hope this makes sense thanks

In my .h i have something like this IBOutlet UIButton *button1; IBOutlet UIButton *button2; IBOutlet UIButton *button3; - (IBAction)buttonPressed; Then In my m i want to do something like this (IBAction)buttonPressed { if (theButtonIpressed == button1) { } } The problem is I don't have something called "theButtonIpressed" so I cant do this. I know for sure there is no nice, clean way of doing this in 3.5 (this is not clean...), but what about 4.0? Is there anything planned, or even proposed? Without something like duck-typing-for-LINQ, or type-safe anonymous return values (it seems to me the compiler should certainly be capable of that), it appears to be nearly impossible to cleanly separate the Controller from the View.

• rails is loading from routes instead of the public folder

  I have a rails app. I have a file in #{RAILS_ROOT}/public/swfs/somthing.swf. Locally, when running with webrick, when I go to the url localhost:3000/swfs/something.swf, my swf loads just fine. My routes.rb file looks like the following ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| map.connect ':controller/:action/:id' map.connect ':controller/:action/:id.:format' end Then, I started running the app with apache. When I visit myurl.com/swfs/something.swf, I get the following error message: Routing Error No route matches "/swfs/something.swf" with {:method=>:get} It looks like, for some reason, it is loading using the rails routes, instead of going to the public folder first. Any suggestions?

• Are there any generic KVM over IP cards/chips for motherboards without any such capability?

  I have a remote server that doesn't have any IP KVM capabilities, meaning I can't remotely power cycle it or access the BIOS. I saw that ASUS offers something for their motherboards here: http://www.asus.com/Server_Workstation/Accessories/ASMB5iKVM/ But is there anything like this available for other motherboards? Even something that I could stash away somewhere in a hard drive bay that simply plugs into the board would be great.
