  • Calculating probability that a string has been randomized? - Python

    Hi folks, this is correlated to a question I asked earlier (question) I have a list of manually created strings such as: lucy87 gordan_king fancy_unicorn77 joplucky_kanga90 base_belong_to_narwhals and a list of randomized strings: johnkdf pancake90kgjd fancy_jagookfk manhattanljg What gives away that the last set of strings are randomized is that sequences such as 'kjg', 'jgf', 'lkd', ... . Any clever way I could separate strings that contain these apparently randomized strings from the crowd? I guess that this plays a lot on the fact that certain characters are more likely to be placed next to others (e.g. 'co', 'ka', 'ja', ...). Any ideas on this one? Kylotan mentioned Reverend, but I am not sure if it can be used fr such purpose. Help would be much appreciated!

I’ve read that by decorating the WebMethod with a unique name, both functions should be exposed in the service metadata. This isn’t working. What am I missing?

    This is a language-agnostic question - unless you count English as a language. I've got this list of items which can have very long names. For aesthetic purposes, these names must be made shorter in some cases, adding dots (...) to indicate that the name is longer. So for example, if article.name returns this: lorem ipsum dolor sit amet I'd like to get this other output. lorem ipsum dolor ... I can program this quite easily. My question is: how should I call that shortening operation? I mean the name, not the implementation. Is there a standard English name for it?

    I have a table in db2 which has the following fields int xyz; string myId; string myName; Example dataset xyz | myid | myname -------------------------------- 1 | ABC.123.456 | ABC 2 | PRQS.12.34 | PQRS 3 | ZZZ.3.2.2 | blah I want to extract the rows where myName matches the character upto "." in the myId field. So from the above 3 rows, I want the firs 2 rows since myName is present in myId before "." How can I do this in the query, can I do some kind of pattern matching inside the query?

    While making a game the MySQL call to get the top 10 is as follows: SELECT username, score FROM userinfo ORDER BY score DESC LIMIT 10 This seems to work decently enough, but when paired with a call to get a individual player's rank the numbers may be different if the player has a tied score with other players.     Dear all, I can't figure out how to optimally do the following in PHP: In a database, I have messages with a unique ID, like 19041985. Now, I want to refer to these messages in a short-url service but not using generated hashes but by simply 'calculate' the original ID. In other words, for example: http://short.url/sYsn7 should let me calculate the message ID the visitor would like to request. To make it more obvious, I wrote the following in PHP to generate these 'alphanumeric ID versions' and of course, the other way around will let me calculate the original message ID. The question is: Is this the optimal way of doing this?     I have third party api's which require string values to be submitted as empty strings. On an asp.net page I can use this code (abbreviated here) and it works fine: public class Customer { private string addr1 = ""; public string Addr1 { get {return addr1;} set {addr1 = value;} } private string addr2 = ""; public string Addr2 { get {return addr2;} set {addr2 = value;} } private string city = ""; public string City { get {return city;} set {city = value;} } } Customer cust = new Customer(); cust.Addr1 = "1 Main St."; cust.City = "Hartford"; int custno = CustomerController.InsertCustomer(cust); The Addr2 field, which was not initialized is still an empty string when inserted. However, using the same code but called it through a web service based on Windows Communication Foundation the Addr2 field is null. Is there a way (or setting) where all string fields, even if uninitialized, would return an empty string (unless, of course, a value was set).

    I'm working in a C, and C++ program. We used to be compiling without the make-strings-writable option. But that was getting a bunch of warnings, so I turned it off. Then I got a whole bunch of errors of the form "Cannot convert const char* to char* in argmuent 3 of function foo". So, I went through and made a whole lot of changes to fix those. However, today, the program CRASHED because the literal "" was getting passed into a function that was expecting a char*, and was setting the 0th character to 0. It wasn't doing anything bad, just trying to edit a constant, and crashing. My question is, why wasn't that a compiler error? In case it matters, this was on a mac compiled with gcc-4.0.

    Hello, I have a C# program where I am using a lot of RegEx.Replace to replace text in my text file. Here is my problem. In my text file, I have a code such as "M6T1". This code is listed in numerous places in the text file. However, I only want to delete it from the bottom (last instance) in the text file. There will always be a "M6T1" at the bottom of the text file, but it is not always the last line. It could be the 3rd line from the bottom, the 5th line from the bottom etc. I only want to get rid of the last instance of "M6T1" so RegEx.Replace won't work here. I don't want to interfer with the other "M6T1"'s in the other locations in the text file. Can someone please give me a solution to this problem? Thanks

  • C# string equality operator returns false, but I'm pretty sure it should be true... What?!

    I'm trying to write a unit test for a piece of code that generates a large amount of text. I've run into an issue where the "expected" and "actual" strings appear to be equal, but Assert.AreEqual throws, and both the equality operator and Equals() return false. The result of GetHashCode() is different for both values as well. However, putting both strings into text files and comparing with DiffMerge tells me they're the same. Additionally, using Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes() on both values and then using SequenceEquals to compare the resulting byte arrays returns true. The values are 34KB each, so I'll hold off putting them here for now. Any ideas? I'm completely stumped.
