  • Unable to locate essential development tools Ubuntu 11.04

    - by Anita 7
I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 (VMware). I aim to implement OpenMP. Im using gcc 4.5 compiler. I tried to install it by using the command sudo apt-get install gcc 4.5. Afterwards I proceed with gcc -fopenmp foo.c BUT the output was: gcc: foo.c: No such file or directory gcc: no input files –. Now I tried to install the package by using : ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install essential Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package essential. I also tried apt-cache search essential and after that sudo apt-get install essential-dev But the same error again, E: Unable to locate package essential-dev Any solution, please? Do I need to download any package? What should I do? Thank you in advance :))

  • In Subversion, how should I set up a new major version of my application?

    - by Steve McLeod
I'm about to start work on a new version (version 4) of my commercial application. I use Subversion. Based on your experiences, mistakes, and successes, how would you recommend I set up the new version in Subversion? Here's some info: I intend to keep releasing critical updates in version 3 for some time after version 4 is released. However all development of new features will be solely in version 4. In case it is relevant: I'm a solo developer on this product, and that is likely to remain the case.

  • Move site to new domain divided by language across subdomains

    - by mark
I managed to find a nice domain for a fairly fledgling site of mine that actually hasn't been parked by scumbag squatters. Given the upcoming move I'm thinking I'd take the opportunity to split the content across subdomains according to language, much like wikipedia for example: current: www.old-domain.com/en/subject # English www.old-domain.com/subjecto # Spanish (default so not locale in url) proposed en.new-domain.com/subject es.new-domain.com/subjecto The advantage of doing this is a fairly competitive keyword such that I may wish to put a copy of my application on a Spanish slice in order to gain a few serp's. Also pure vanity. Google's webmaster tools allows me to move to the new domain and I can add the root domain and the subdomains but forward to only one. I'll 301 from the old domain appropriately but is there anything I should know about webmaster tools in this respect where effectively I'm moving to two addresses? (Feel free to dissuade me from doing this if it's a bad idea in comments.) I've now asked this same question on google's forums.

tweetmeme_source = 'alpascual'; Installation tips. If Visual Studio 2010 Professional or higher is already installed on your development computer, an add-in for Visual Studio 2010 Professional is automatically installed as well. • What is the canonical approach to using a VCS right from a project's infancy?

    - by Anonymous -
Background I've used VCS (mainly git) in the past to manage many existing projects and it works great. Typically with an existing project, I would check in each change I make to the code that either optimizes or changes the overall functionality (you know what I mean, in suitable steps, not every single line I change). Problem One thing I've not had so much practise at is creating new projects. I'm in the process of starting a new project of my own that will probably grow quite large, but I'm finding that there is a lot to do and a lot changing in the first few days/hours/weeks/the period up until the product is actually functioning in it's most basic form. Is there any point in me checking in each step of the process as I would with an existing project? I'm not breaking the project with changes I make since it isn't working yet. At the moment I've simply been using VCS as a backup at the end of each day, when I leave the computer. My first few commits were things like "Basic directory structure in place" and "DB tables created". How should I use a VCS when starting a new project?

  • 301 redirect from a country specific domain

    - by Raj
I originally started using a .do domain extension for my site, but later realized that this country specific domain would prevent us from appearing in search results for places outside of the Dominican Republic. We started using a .co domain extension and redirected all requests to the new domain using an HTTP 301. The "Crawl Stats" in Google Webmaster Tools shows me that the .co domain is being crawled, but the "Index Status" shows the number of pages indexed at 0. The "Crawl Stats" for the .do domain says that it's being crawled and the "Index Status" shows a number greater than 0. I also set a "Change Of Address" in Google Webmaster Tools to have the .do domain point to the new .co domain. We're still not appearing in search results at all even for very specific strings where I would expect to find us. Am I doing something wrong?

  • 3 Tools to Automate Your SEO Efforts

When it boils down to it, a lot of SEO is pretty autonomous and mundane. We all know that we need links to get the high rankings but the thought of having to spend hours submitting to directories is enough to make me find a million and one other jobs - even going as far as calling the in-laws! You can outsource the submission process but it's become debatable just how effective these submissions are, you could be throwing the money away.

  • Test JPQL with NetBeans IDE 7.3 Tools

    - by Geertjan
Since I pretty much messed up this part of the "Unlocking Java EE 6 Platform" demo, which I did together with PrimeFaces lead Çagatay Çivici during JavaOne 2012, I feel obliged to blog about it to clarify what should have happened! In my own defense, I only learned about this feature 15 minutes before the session started. In 7.3 Beta, it works for Java SE projects, while for Maven-based web projects, you need a post 7.3 Beta build, which is what I set up for my demo right before it started. Then I saw that the feature was there, without actually trying it out, which resulted in that part of the demo being a bit messy. And thanks to whoever it was in the audience who shouted out how to use it correctly! Screenshots below show everything related to this new feature, available from 7.3 onwards, which means you can try out your JPQL queries right within the IDE, without deploying the application (you only need to build it since the queries are run on the compiled classes): SQL view: Result view for the above: Here, you see the result of a more specific query, i.e., check that a record with a specific name value is present in the database: Also note that there is code completion within the editor part of the dialog above. I.e., as you press Ctrl-Space, you'll see context-sensitive suggestions for filling out the query. All this is pretty cool stuff! Saves time because now there's no need to deploy the app to check the database connection.
