  • Sneak Preview - New CodePlex UI

    We have been busy the last several months working to improve the overall experience for the CodePlex community. We have been working through some of the top requested items, such as our big announcement last week enabling Git. Something that is not explicitly on the feature request list are requests to update the web site look and user experience.  As Brian Harry mentioned, the Future of CodePlex is Bright, so it is time to start brightening up the place. Goals As with any sizeable change you need to decide the scope of changes you want to tackle. We decided that we would optimize on incremental improvements verses taking months to get a completely new experience released. Our goals with this user experience work is to refresh the look and feel of the site, introduce new visual elements and set up the site for future structural changes. So this is not the end, just the beginning. Early Views I want to set a few expectations first, these screen shots are not final, and we are still working through the content and final element placement. Feedback is always welcome, just take that in mind as you review the images. New CodePlex Home The navigation changed a good bit on the home page and we have moved the search to a more consistent location across the site.   User Profile Users Home Page The goal was to make it easier to find and take action on common tasks such as creating projects. How would you arrange your Software Testing before coding phase, during coding and after you finished the coding phase for a. providing stakeholders with information about the quality of the product or service under test. b. providing an objective, independent view of the software to allow the business to appreciate and understand the risks of software implementation. and how do you understand that your program/application/product c. meets the business and technical requirements that guided its design and development d. works as expected p.s. please feel free to edit the question since my english is not very powerful.

  • Can you recommend a good test plan template?

    Can you recommend a good test plan template for an agile testing team? I know there are templates for testing on the web and have already looked at some found by search engines, but I could really use something lightweight and something that has already been tried by skilled testers and is known to work well. Many templates I've seen give me the feeling that writing test documents is expected to be a third of the work that those testers are doing, but my team really prefers to use less documentation and more actual test writing. We use a wiki for documentation, so an approach that lends itself to living documents would be great. My hope is that using a more structured approach to test planning will increase the usefulness of my test plan while reducing the effort to create it by allowing me to think about the tests, and not the format and structure of the plan. My workplace does not have something already on hand, so whatever I start doing might be adopted by the company.

    Ok so in a programming test I was given the following question. Question 1 (1 mark) Spot the potential bug in this section of code: void Class::Update( float dt ) { totalTime += dt; if( totalTime == 3.0f ) { // Do state change m_State++; } } The multiple choice answers for this question were. a) It has a constant floating point number where it should have a named constant variable b) It may not change state with only an equality test c) You don't know what state you are changing to d) The class is named poorly I wrongly answered this with answer C. I eventually received feedback on the answers and the feedback for this question was Correct answer is a. This is about understanding correct boundary conditions for tests. The other answers are arguably valid points, but do not indicate a potential bug in the code. My question here is, what does this have to do with boundary conditions? My understanding of boundary conditions is checking that a value is within a certain range, which isn't the case here. Upon looking over the question, in my opinion, B should be the correct answer when considering the accuracy issues of using floating point values.

  • Maya and Game Engines (i.e. Environment Testing)

    What does it mean if I'm designing an environment and I want to test it in the game engine, to see what its like to "run" [or fly] around my environment? I heard an instructor say that exact thing in a Maya training video and I'd like to know more about "How Game Engines and Maya are related to each other." He stated this would be done to see how things look in "size" (e.g. I assume he meant: 'How big is the cathedral, bridge, wall, building, etc.'). I've tried to research such information but it's too complicated, and detailed. I just want a simplistic response to my query. Thanks to everyone willing to help and not criticize my question.

  • UI font has rendering glitches in GNOME Shell

    I don't really know how to describe this problem in English. A picture can say more words - look at the tabs at the top of the linked image. The current font settings are shown as well. I don't know what basic info I should provide so if something missing, please tell me. Ubuntu 12.04 GNOME Shell 3.4.1 I know, a reboot can make everything normal but I'm looking for a more permanent solution that can fix this problem (or bug).   • Quality Assurance=inspections, reviews..?

    Studying this subject extensively, the most books state the following: Quality Assurance: prevention activity. Act of inspection, reviewing.. Quality Control: testing While there are some exceptions that mention that QA deals with just processes (planning, strategy, standard application etc.) which is IMHO much closer to real QA, yet I cannot find any good reference in Google Books. I believe that inspections, reviews, testing is all quality control as it is about checking products, no matter if it is the final one or work products. The problem is that so many authors do not agree. I would be grateful for detailed explanation, ideally with a reference.

  • Recommended display/background brightness ratio and UI color schemes [duplicate]

    This question already has an answer here: Colour scheme for editor - guidelines or medical reccomendations 3 answers I'm a professional programmer, which means I spend a lot of time staring at various displays. Recently I've been having some problems with my eyes, so I went to talk to several doctors, which all gave me different recommendations as to how bright the background of the room should be in comparison to the display's brightness. It was very confusing, as some of them even agreed with counter-arguments of others, which made it all even less clear. So I'd like to ask the professional programmers, as people who actually have some experience with that. Some of the doctors said that looking at a monitor is like looking at a book, so the brightness ratios should be approximately the same. Others said that background should be as bright as the display itself, because then there is no brightness difference at the edges, and that's what may cause eye fatigue. From my own experience, I can say that reading a book isn't the same as writing or debugging a program, where you have to pay close attention to each symbol, and in books most words are easily recognizable without focusing too hard on them. Also, books are black on white and I myself use the default (dark text, white bg) color scheme for my IDE, but I've seen some programmers use mid-bright text on very dark background color schemes. So I'd like to ask what are the recommended display/background brightness ratios for programming? I'm not sure this site is the right one for this kind of questions, so if you know a better one, please comment.

  • What is the best way of testing Ubuntu?

    I'm a little confused as to whether I should install Ubuntu on its own partition on my hard drive, use VirtualBox or another virtualization package to install it, or use Wubi to install it directly on top of my current OS (Win 7). I definitely want to learn and use Ubuntu, so this is not just for playing around with it. Also, if I choose to partition, should I partition the hard drive myself or should I let the Ubuntu installation menu do it for me? I understand that I am going to need a main partition, for Ubuntu's core components, and also a swap partition. Then there is the option to add a partition for "home"- I don't understand what combination of these partitioning options I should choose, or whether it is better to partition in Windows before I install Ubuntu or just partition my hard drive when I install Ubuntu itself

  • Facing quality issues

    A workforce management software has complex GUI (for example values in a page depends on the status (closed or open) of other pages). Only latest and near past development has test coverage. During our last release, we received lots of bugs from customer in-spite of 2 weeks of testing Sprint . We don't have dedicated test team. The developers does the unit test & User acceptance test. Every day triggers automated regression test. I am afraid the developers are not testing the entire workflow because its time consuming also not able to automate it because of its complexity. Any suggestions ?. The legacy code (15 yrs development) has less code coverage. How can I improve quality ? Note: Now not possible to hire testers to have independent test team!!

    This isn't a language-specific thing as far as I'm concerned. I was wondering what may be a quick way to change the COLOR of a certain on-screen element such as a button and its associated text. I would assume there is a trick to making a graphics engine so maybe individuals pixels or groups of sprites can have their colors easily shifted. A lot of game interface buttons and such have this so you know when an event like a click has occurred. Any pseudo code would be helpful and I am working in Android (not XML fluff), but again, this probably is not a very specific question, just an inquiry on how to go about this.
