  • Best Linux distro for load-balancers?

    I wanted to try HAProxy/Linux Virtual Server like front-end load-balancers, but as far I know, they're Linux-based software. I don't have any experiences with Linux yet. so there're quite many questions to ask: What is the best Linux distro(s) for load-balancing? I plan to use VirtualPC to run some virtual machines. How much RAM is the best for each machine run that distro? I want to simulate a load-balancer with can handle about 100 hits/second, is it possible? Thank you very much!

  • Windows Virtual Machine not seen by host (Mac OS X) using VMWare Fusion

    Hi, I installed Windows XP with VMware Fusion on my MacBook and while internet works, Windows can ping the Mac, etc. from the Mac or any other machine in the network we can not see the Virtual Machine. In between, I use bridged option and obtain the the VM's IP dynamically; tried also static assignment from the free addresses but the problem persisted. Any ideas what is wrong?

  • Ubuntu 11.10 Virtual-box Unity 3D not working

    After struggling for four hours, I still cannot get Unity 3D of Gnome 3 to work on my VirtualBox - I have been pouring through Internet and forum posts but to no avail. Here's what I've done so far: VirtualBox 4.1.4r74921 on Windows 7 Installed Ubuntu Desktop 11.10 ( 32 bit ) Enabled 3D acceleration Allocated 1.5GB of RAM Allocated 50MB video memory (hope this is not the culprit) Installed Guest edition 4.1.4 Did apt-get update and apt-get upgrade Booted back in to Ubuntu - falls back to Unity 2D Shared folder, mouse integration all works, so guest edition is properly installed Tried the command and below is the output /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test –p OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.11 Not software rendered: no Not blacklisted: yes GLX fbconfig: yes GLX texture from pixmap: no GL npot or rect textures: yes GL vertex program: yes GL fragment program: yes GL vertex buffer object: yes GL framebuffer object: yes GL version is 1.4+: yes Unity 3D supported: no I am trying to find what the "no" means but cannot find any good answers.     A linux machine is connected to internet over two interfaces ppp0 and ppp1 using two modems. Also this machine acts as wireless access point through an interface say, eth0 with ip address 192.168.1.1 and acts as gateway for the connected devices through this network with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Now is it possible to achieve the following: When any of the connected devices through wireless AP needs internet connection linux machine has to use ppp1 interface for internet. If any of the applications on the linux machine needs internet connection linux machine should use ppp0 interface for the internet. Can this be achieved by adding rules to chains in filter/nat tables? If the kernel routing table has a default rule to route the default traffic through interface ppp0, wil kernel completely ignore ppp1 for internet? PS: new to networking and routing concepts, If the question is not clear leave a comment, will try to give more information.

    Centos 5.2, Apache 2.2.3 I want to configure Apache to redirect any URL under mail.mydomain.com to the single URL https://mail.google.com/a/mydomain.com How can I set this up with Apache? I have LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so but I'm not sure how to actually use this and I can't find a really simple example; I assume I set up a new virtual host with some form of rewrite directive, but how is this done?

When the stop event occured I was logged in via RDP but I don't remember and clicks in IIS Manager...:( there are no error messages in event viewer

  • Ignore mapping when in text input box

    I have AutoHotkey set up in a way that is recognises Cmd-Left and Cmd-Right keystrokes as back/forward navigation in Chrome. Problem is that it also recognises those keys being pressed while I am entering text in textboxes. However when entering text, I'd would like those key combinations to carry out different function - jump to beginning/end of the line, similar to Ctrl-Left/Right. Is there a way to have one mapping working for text boxes and another mapping for everything else in AutoHotkey?

    I'm just curious how many ways people can come up with to block access to a website. I simply intended to block (my own) access to news.ycombinator.com to stop my productivity drain. The first two methods I thought of were editing the hosts file to resolve news.ycombinator.com to 0.0.0.0 or adding a rule to iptables. iptables -A OUTPUT -d news.ycombinator.com -j REJECT Disclaimer: I do realise that the above two methods are easily by-passable. Doesn't help this is my own machine. What other ways does the internet know?

    I'd like to create a mini dropbox and print server on a small soho network of 5 users (all of them use windows XP desktops). The device need to run 24/7 or at least 12/7 (I can accept just workday hours too but the other two options would be better). Dropbox mini server: I mean I will have a 90gb dropbox on every computer on my network LAN syncing with It and the one onto It syncing to the web. Print Server: I have a Samsung A4 small laser printer, a HP500 Designjet Plotter, a Samsung Multifunction Machine (fax/print/scan/copy), a modern HP color A3 Deskjet printer and a HP laserjet A4 color printer. All of them need to be connected to this mini server. Fax/Scan server: since I have the above mentioned fax/print/scan/copy machine I would like to make people use It from/to their computers through the mini server. I thought to a recent EEEBOX machine because I heard good things about ATOM cpus and because It seems that a recent BIOS version could switch It off and on autonomously. I'd like to listen some advice from You. Best of all would be: - If You have something similar running for a long time - If You disagree with this hardware choice and If You would suggest some other device. - If You see any issues with my printing setup - Anything else ;) My budget is from Zero (using right sw to build something on top on a old PC) to 500€ max.

  • Accessing guests on virtual network when connected to host via PPTP

    I'm setting up a development machine which runs Ubuntu 12.04 and KVM for virtualization. I have a guest running Ubuntu 12.04 which can be accessed from the host via its IP address which is assigned by libvirt. The guest can also access the internet, no problem there. However, now I want to setup PPTP so I can connect to the host (from my workstation running Windows 7) and directly access guests without relying on SSH port forwarding. I can connect from my W7-machine to the host (PPTP), but I cannot access any virtual machines (which are accessable from the host directly).   • Virtual Server 2005 VSS writer missing

    I have two servers running Virtual server 2005 R2 SP1. I'm using Symantec Backup Exec 10d for backups. One server runs the backups fine but the other will cause the vm's to crash when it tries to backup. I think the problem is because the "Microsoft Vitual Server 2005 Writer" is not showing up when I run "vssadmin list writers". Can I install the writer without reinstalling VS 2005?

  • Windows 7: Open File - Security Warning box appears for every app on the desktop

    Whenever I double-click to open an executable on the desktop (.exe, .bat, etc.), or a shortcut on the desktop that points to an executable, the "Security Warning" pops up and asks me "Are you really sure you want to open that? Stuff from the Internet is dangerous!" I don't usually mind this warning and don't want to disable it globally, but now I'm getting it for any executable on the desktop, even ones that I didn't download from the Web and don't have the Mark of the Web alternate data stream. (That is, streams -d * shouldn't and doesn't help.) This started fairly recently, but I can't really point to anything I did that triggered it. It only occurs in one user account on the machine; the other account doesn't have this problem. Running System Restore didn't help. How can I fix the problem and make the pop-up warning appear only when it's supposed to?

    I have a CentOS 5.2 server set up with Apache 2.2.3 and Tomcat 5.5.27. The server hosts multiple virtual hosts connected to multiple Tomcats. For instance we have one tomcat for development and testing and one tomcat for production. project.demo.us.com points to dev tomcat and project.us.com points to production tomcat. Tomcat's webapps directory contains project.war and the server automatically deployed it under project directory which contains index.jsp and hello.html. The latter is for static debugging purposes. Now when I try to access http://project.demo.us.com/project/index.jsp, I get Tomcat's HTTP Status 404 - The requested resource () is not available. The same thing happens to hello.html so it's not working with static content either. Apache's access_log contains: 88.112.152.31 - - [10/Aug/2009:12:15:14 +0300] "GET /demo/index.jsp HTTP/1.1" 404 952 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090729 Firefox/3.5.2" I couldn't find any mention of the request in Tomcat's logs. If I shutdown this specific tomcat, I no longer get Tomcat's 404 but Apache's 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable, so I should be configuring the correct Tomcat. Is there something obvious that I'm missing? Is there any place where I could find out what path the Tomcat is using to look for requested files?

    I'm trying to run Tor in virtual machine. It used to work, but now when I try to access sites I get "502 bad gateway" error from Privoxy instead of requested site. I tried fixing time to correct one with date command but I still get 502 error. I use Virtualbox, Linux guest, and Tor+Privoxy setup.
