  • Help reinstalling Ubuntu on macbook pro

    Ok. I recently installed ubuntu on my macbook pro. Unfortunately, while trying to install the nvidia graphics drivers the system wouldn't reboot, the screen grey for hours. I concluded that I had broken ubuntu, and proceeded to boot into osx and remove the ubuntu partitions. After I had done that, after a reboot, I noticed that "boot linux from hd" was still listed in the bootloader (i'm using rEFIT). I dismissed it. Now, I'm trying to reinstall ubuntu, using the same USB that I successfully installed with earlier. Now, however, when the ubuntu installer is on the "copying files" part this error (more or less) pops up. ERRNO 5: We're sorry, the installer crashed. This error frequently is caused by faulty installation media, the hard disk being too hot... and so on and so forth. I'm not sure what's causing the problem, but I have a hunch that whatever's the reason that's causing linux to show up in rEFIT is the root reason. If anyone could respond, that would be great. PS, and unfortunately no, i do not have a time machine backup.

  • Virtualbox errors out when creating or opening VM

    I installed Virtual-box about a week ago and now every time I either try to start a VM or create a new one I get the error listed below. I am in the vboxusers group. I completely uninstalled and re-installed the application without any change in the error. When I run the command below I receive "command not found". Then when I try to install dkms they systems says it is already installed. Right now I have removed the application and any files and would love to re-install the application again to get it working. I remove the application using: sudo apt-get remove virtualbox* --purge Any ideas? Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. If it is available in your distribution, you should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.     There are four hosts hostA winXP hostB Win2003 hostC Linux RHEL hostD Linux RHEL hostA cannot connect to C and D directly, but B can hostA connects to hostB using VPN hostB and hostC belong to the same subnet1 hostD is in subnet2 From hostA I need to connect to hostC and hostD by SSH. Now I can do it as follows: 1.connecting from hostA to hostB by RDP logon and there: 2.start putty client. I'd like to omit step 1 and connect from A to C and D directly On hostB I have admin acoount and configure port forwarding as follows: netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=N1 connectaddress=hostC_IP connectport=N2 netsh interface portproxy add v4tov4 listenport=N3 connectaddress=hostD_IP connectport=N2 netsh interface portproxy show all: Listen on IPv4: Connect to IPv4: Address Port Address Port --------------- ---------- --------------- ---------- * N1 hostC_IP N2 * N3 hostD_IP N2 Now from hostB I can connect to either C and D: ssh localhost:N1 ssh localhost:N3 from hostA ssh hostB:N1 works too, but ssh hostB:N3 DON'T I guess the reason might be different subnets, still have no idea how to fix it. What should I do?

  • How do I define multiple urls for svn project?

    I am working on a project in mixed environment (win, cygwin, linux) which is on a "shared ntfs drive". I am the sole user there for this project is not really duplicated for multiple users. The main issue I am facing is that the original svn project import was done with a cygwin path like "/cygdrive/z/path to svn project". Now when I am on win svn or linux svn this does not work with svn since such paths do not exists for those versions. Is there a way to define more than one path for the svn import, like maybe some kind of configuration that i can use to fire on the command line? thanks

    I did use Ubuntu 10.10 for a long time, and now I replaced it with Ubuntu 12.10, every thing works great, but I do have one little problem, which is with my wireless card. On Ubuntu 10.10, it worked PERFECTLY, and it even worked better than in windows 7, so I was very happy with Ubuntu 10.10, but, like I said, after installing 12.10, my wireless card doesn't work any more, so I heard that KERNELS are the reason for that. Are kernels the reason for my wireless not working now? If yes then please teach me how to remove my current kernels and install 10.10 kernels. I went to -Additional Drivers- and i found something very weird i took picture and this is what it look like "apply changes" Button NOT active so i can't install driver :( anyway... my Wireless card is WL-138g v2 (remember on Ubuntu 10.10 it was WORKING 100% normally and FREE i did NOT pay for it driver) so... now what shall i do ? it is saying in picture // Using Non-Free firmware for linux kernel drivers from linux-firmware-nonfree (proprietary) // BTW i did "rfkill list" but NO-thing appear under that command.
