  • Running Solr on VPS problems

    I have a VPS with Ubuntu OS. I run solr om my local machine (windows xp laptop) just fine. I have configured Jetty, and Solr just the same way as on my computer, but on the server. I have also downloaded the JRE and installed it on the server. However, whenever I try to run the start.jar file, the PuTTY terminal shows a bunch of text but gets stuck. I could pase the text here but it is very long, so unless somebody wants to see it I wont. Also, I cant view the solr admin page at all. Does anybody have experience in this kind of problem? Maybe java isn't correctly installed? It is a VPS so maybe installation is different.   • Please suggest some alternative to Drupal

    Drupal propose completely different approach in web development (comparing with RoR like frameworks) and it is extremely good from development speed perspective. For example, it is quite easy to clone 90% of stackoverflow functionality using Drupal. But it has several big drawbacks: it is f''cking slow (100-400 requests per page) db structure very complicated, need at least 2 tables for easy content (entity) type, CCK fields very easy generate tons of new db tables anti-object oriented, rather aspect-oriented bad "view" layer implementation, no strange forward layouts and so on. After all this items I can say I like Drupal, but I would like something same, but more elegant and more object oriented. Probably something like http://drupy.net/ - drupal emulation on the top of django. P.S. I wrote this question not for new holy word flame, just write if you know alternative that uses something similar approach.

    I am trying to create a way for users to search through all the products on a website. When they search for "burton snowboards", I only want the snowboards with the brand burton to appear in the results. But if they searched only "burton", then all products with the brand burton should appear. This is what I have attempted to write but isn't working for multiple reasons. I'm not sure how to fix these problems though, any insights or solutions will be greatly appreciated.

  • Regexp to extract sources from different video embeds

    My SMF forum contains posts with video and I want to extract them to show on the Wordpress main page. My current regexp (thanks to SO!) extracts the url of the videos, which I embed using AutoEmbed. Everything works up until a post looks like this: <embed height="600" width="600" allowscriptaccess="never" quality="high" loop="true" play="true" src="http://mmavlog.net/embed/player.swf?file=http://video.ufc.tv/CSG/UFC113/20100507_ufc113_weigh_in_400k.flv" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> Here is my current regexp: $regexp = "/\b(?:(?:https?|ftp):\/\/|www\.)[-a-z0-9+&@#\/%?=~_|!:,.;]*[-a-z0-9+&@#\/%=~_|]/i"; Since the posts can contain <embed> or <object> I realize that looking for the url by the "http" might be inaccurate. How can I use the regexp to look for "src=" for <embed> and "data=" for <object>?

    I am trying to write a plugin which will update a user field. I can use the update user meta function OK, but when I try the wp_update_user it doesnt work. wp_update_user($user_ID, 'user_nicename', 'test'); That crashes the plugin. Do I need to include something for this function to work??

I don't understand what's going wrong here.

  • Why does my Doctrine DBAL query return no results when quoted?

    I'm using the Doctrine DataBase Abstraction Layer (DBAL) to perform some queries. For some reason, when I quote a parameter before passing it to the query, I get back no rows. When I pass it unquoted, it works fine. I have been able to determine each persons email client they are using by using the http referrer but for some reason GMAIL does not send a HTTP_REFERRER at all! So I am trying to find another way of identifying when gmail requests a transparent image from my server.   • Admin section in CakePHP

    I'm having a hard time understanding how the CakePHP admin system works. Should all controllers who has an action which requires login include AuthComponent or just the one who handles the login/logout? Let's say I want to protect the add action of a controller. First I create admin_add() in the controller and then in the beforeFilter() method I check if $this->Session->check('Auth.User') is set a redirect based on this? Turns out it was better to just controll this with $this->Auth->allow() What is the easiest way to return to the URL the user was trying to access? Is there a better way than setting a session variable? Turns out it does this automagically :) If someone has a good tutorial for this I would happily read it :) I've already read this tutorial but I found it to be a little to basic and the CakePHP-docs are not that great on this topic either.

I need the error message to set the date format the same as the input. Also my input fields are set with the wrong date format when the error appears. Tried several things, but no luck at this moment. Didn't find a solution or information on symfony it self. I'm using symfony version 1.2.11

    Hello all, When a user registers with my site I want to offer them a login page and a user area with the URL: http://user1.mysite.com http://user2.mysite.com http://user3.mysite.com ... I did a google search for this but I wasn't sure of the right terms... How can I do this without having to actually create lots of subdomains - I am sure its not done this way - is it URL re-writing? Apache mod_rewrite? If so can someone give me an example please or is there a better way of doing this? Btw, I am using Codeigniter - if Codeigniter has something that can do this, I would rather use that. Thanks all for any help
