Initiate a PHP class where class name is a variable

I need some help with an error I have not encountered before and can't seem to find anywhere. In a PHP mvc framework (just from a tutorial) I have the following: // Initiate the class $className = 'Controller_' . ucfirst($controller); if (class_exists($className)) { $controller = new $className($this->registry); } $className is showing the correct class name (case is also correct). But when I run it I get this in the apache error log (no php error) [Wed Mar 31 10:34:12 2010] [notice] child pid 987 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) Process id is different on every call. I am running PHP 5.3.0 on os x 10.6. This site seems to work on 5.2.11 on another Mac. Not really sure where to go next to debug it. I guess it could be an apache setting as much as a php bug or a problem with the code... any suggestions on where to look next?

Adding WCF service reference adds DataContract types too

Hi everybody, I've used Visual Studio's Add Service Reference feature to add a service (actually it is a workflow service, created in WF4 RC1, but I don't think this makes any difference), and it also added the DataContracts that the service uses. At first this seemed fine, because All I've had in the DataContracts was simply properties, with no implementations. But now I've added code in the constructor of one data contracts that initializes creates an instance of one of the properties that exposes a list of other DCs, and when I've updated the service reference via VS (2010 RC1), the implementation was not updated. What should I do? Should I use my DCs instead of the ones created by VS or should I use the ones VS created? I've noticed that the properties in the VS-generated DCs contain some additional logic for checking equality in the setters and they also implement some interfaces too (like IExtensibleDataObject and INotifyPropertyChanged) which might get handy I guess in the future (I'm not knowledgeable at WCF). How to customize OOTB workflow emails

How can I make simple format-type customizations to ALL OOTB workflow related emails? I have found that many pre-Sharepoint 2010 posts indicated that OOTB workflow emails are in fact 'alerts', and therefore OOTB workflow emails could be customized using the same technique which is: making a customized version of alerttemplates.xml and even using IAlertNotifyHandler to intercept all alert emails. However, it seems that OOTB workflow and workflow task emails are not affected by changes to my customalerttemplates.xml file (which I do follow with stsadm updatealerttemplates, iisreset, and timer service restart). jQuery UI - Datepicker - Hide year

Hi, I'm using jQuery UI 1.8 and I would like to hide the year from the user in both the popup and the textbox. Essentially instead of picking the day, month and year I want the user to just pick the day and month. Hiding the year in the textbox is easy enough, the code shown below will do that. I'm stumped on how to hide the year from the popup - so it would say "April" instead of "April 2010". $(function() { $("#beginDateRange").datepicker({ dateFormat: 'mm/dd' }); }); <input type="text" name="beginDateRange" id="beginDateRange" /> Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Django Grouping Query

I have the following (simplified) models: class Donation(models.Model): entry_date = models.DateTimeField() class Category(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class Item(models.Model): donation = models.ForeignKey(Donation) category = models.ForeignKey(Category) I'm trying to display the total number of items, per category, grouped by the donation year. I've tried this: Donation.objects.extra(select={'year': "django_date_trunc('year', %s.entry_date)" % Donation._meta.db_table}).values('year', 'item__category__name').annotate(items=Sum('item__quantity')) But I get a Field Error on item__category__name. I've also tried: Item.objects.extra(select={"year": "django_date_trunc('year', entry_date)"}, tables=["donations_donation"]).values("year", "category__name").annotate(items=Sum("quantity")).order_by() Which generally gets me what I want, but the item quantity count is multiplied by the number of donation records. Any ideas? Basically I want to display this: 2010 - Category 1: 10 items - Category 2: 17 items 2009 - Category 1: 5 items - Category 3: 8 items

Rails: Display Maintenance Page if No Database Connection Available

I'm looking for a solution that will allow my rails app to render a user-friendly maintenance page when there is no Mysql server available to connect to. Normally a Mysql::Error is thrown from the mysql connection adapter in active_record. Something like: /!\ FAILSAFE /!\ Wed May 26 11:40:14 -0700 2010 Status: 500 Internal Server Error Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' Is there a low-overhead way to catch this error and render a maintenance page instead? I'm assuming that since connections are actually made in the active_record mysql adapter the app never makes it to the controller stack before it throws the error, so you can't catch it in a controller. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

.Net C#: support differnt Office versions

We created an application that uses Office 2007 (Excel 2007) to read in data from an Excel worksheet. However. I noticed that when I want to deploy the application on a system with Office 2003 installed, it crashes because other PIA's (and other dll's) need to be referenced for this version of office. Do I need to compile different versions of my application to be able to support different versions of Office or is there a more ellegant solution for this problem? I use Visual Studio 2010 (C#) and the .Net 4.0 platform. Many thanks Chris

Key points are: It's a one-time initial load. Data comes in an Excel file. Java Time Zone When Parsing DateFormat

I had code that parses date as follows: String ALT_DATE_TIME_FORMAT = "yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSSZ"; SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat( ALT_DATE_TIME_FORMAT); Date date = sdf.parse(requiredTimeStamp); And it was working fine, suddenly, this stopped working. It turns out an admin made some config changes on the server and the date is currently being returned as "2010-12-27T10:50:44.000-08:00" which is not parse-able by the above pattern. I have two questions: The first would be what pattern would parse the date being returned by the JVM in the format above (specifically, just '-08:00' as the time zone)? And second, where exactly would one change such settings on a linux RHEL 5 server so that we are aware of such changes in the future?

Segmentation fault when accessing a PHP page

Sometimes when one of our Apache web servers is restarted, we experience segmentation faults when any PHP page is subsequently accessed. The following line is printed in the httpd error_log: [Wed Jun 16 10:59:33 2010] [notice] child pid 31513 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) There will be one of these lines for each PHP page that is accessed. This appears to happen randomly - the "workaround" to-date is to restart httpd, which eventually fixes the problem (almost always after a single restart). Although we only see this happen rarely, it still happens frequently enough to be of concern. So my question is, why is this happening in the first place? Is this a known bug with the version of Apache / PHP / Linux / etc that we are using? Any ideas? The environment is: Fedora 11 Apache 2.2.15 (Default settings) PHP 5.2.13 I can provide more information if that would help narrow things down, since this error message is rather generic... Any help is appreciated.

How stable or unstable is symfony 2.0 ?

Well, I know it's a preview, and I know it says that it's not yet ready for production, and yet I dare ask the question. I need to start building a pretty big application, which is planned to go live at around sep-oct 2010. Lets say I will not release the application to production until the stable version of symfony 2.0 will be released - is it a good idea (well, I'll settle for a viable idea) for me to start building the application using the 2.0 version ? How big is the chance I will need to rewrite/replace code I've written due to core changes in the framework ? Thanks. Edit: the other option right now, is to use symfony 1.4. I have thought and tried Zend Framework, but I refuse to re-invent each and every module, which will cost me a lot of programming hours (if not days/weeks).

Returning the value of an identity column during/after SQL INSERT command

Using VS 2010, with ASP.NET, and .NET 3.0, and C#... When I use a System.Web.UI.WebControls.SqlDataSource and call its Insert() method to insert a new row, and that table has an identity column, I'd like my method to return the value of that column. For example, in my SQL 2005 table, I've got: Customer.Id Customer.FirstName Customer.LastName Where Customer.Id is an identity colum. When I call my method InsertNewCustomerRecord( "John", "Smith" ), I'd like to be able to return the Customer.Id that gets automatically generated in the database. Sorry for such a roughly posed question. Let me know if I can add better detail. Thanks.

How to create a custom ADO Multi Demensional Catalog with no database

Does anyone know of an example of how to dynamically define and build ADO MD (ActiveX Data Objects Multidimensional) catalogs and cube definitions with a set of data other than a database? Background: we have a huge amount of data in our application that we export to a database and then query using the usual SQL joins, groups, sums etc to produce reports. The data in the application is originally in objects and arrays. The problem is the amount of data is so large the export can take 2 hours. So I am trying to figure out a good way of querying the objects in memory, either by a custom OLAP algorithm or library, or ADO MD. But I haven't been able to find an example of using ADO MD without a database behind it. We are using Delphi 2010 so would use ADO ActiveX but I imagine the ADO.NET MD is similar. I realize that if the application data was already stored in a database the problem would solve itself. Also if Delphi had LINQ capability I could query the objects and arrays that way.

There are people who mercilessly educate themselves, and there are others who are a bit ho-hum about it, feeling a bit of apathy. If you remove all of the risk associated surrounding a "refocus" of your career - what choices would you make? What things would you learn and what would you do with it? Think of it as a reroll, Ground Hog day, starting over from scratch today. What platform and language choices would you make and why? Most important to me are those who are completely happy where they are - would love to hear more about what it is that keeps you where you're at. custom attribute changes in .NET 4

I recently upgraded a C# project from .NET 3.5 to .NET 4. I have a method that extracts all MSTest test methods from a given list of MethodBase instances. Its body looks like this: return null == methods || methods.Count() == 0 ? null : from method in methods let testAttribute = Attribute.GetCustomAttribute(method, typeof(TestMethodAttribute)) where null != testAttribute select method; This worked in .NET 3.5, but since upgrading my projects to .NET 4, this code always returns an empty list, even when given a list of methods containing a method that is marked with [TestMethod]. Did something change with custom attributes in .NET 4? Debugging, I found that the results of GetCustomAttributesData() on the test method gives a list of two CustomAttributeData which are described in Visual Studio 2010's 'Locals' window as: Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting.DeploymentItemAttribute("myDLL.dll") Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting.TestMethodAttribute() -- this is what I'm looking for When I call GetType() on that second CustomAttributeData instance, however, I get {Name = "CustomAttributeData" FullName = "System.Reflection.CustomAttributeData"} System.Type {System.RuntimeType}. How can I get TestMethodAttribute out of the CustomAttributeData, so that I can extract test methods from a list of MethodBases?

Can I get a PTypeInfo from a string?

This is probably going to be a "no", but is there any way I can use Delphi's RTTI, either old-school or the 2010 extended RTTI, to pass in a string containing the name of a type, specifically the name of an enumerated type, and have it give me the PTypeInfo for that type? I've looked through RTTI.pas and TypInfo.pas and I don't see any function that would do that, but I might have missed something. What I'm looking for: var info: PTypeInfo; begin info := GetTypeInfoFromName('TComponentStyle'); end; Or something like that. Thing is, the name of the enumerated type would be passed in; it wouldn't be known at compile time.
