  • Perf4J Logging Config Help

    I currently have a long running process that I am trying to analyze with Perf4J. I currently have it writing results in CSV format to its own log file using the AsyncCoalescingStatisticsAppender and a StatisticsCsvLayout on the file appender. My question is; when I try and use the --graph option from the command line (using the perf4j jar) it isn't populating the data points- it isn't populating anything. Are my appenders set incorrectly?   • JLabel with separate text and icon background colours

    Hey, I have a simple Jlabel element with text and icon setting the background changes the full label colour. I want to be able to only render the background colour on the text section of the label, ie - to have separate backgrounds/foregrounds for the icon and text. Selecting/deselecting the label will flip the colour behind the icon and text. Is this possible to do this by just extending JLabel, and if so which methods should i be looking to customise? My alternative idea is to create a panel with two separate label elements, one with an icon the other with text. It seems a bit messy, and before i start i'm wondering is there a smarter way of achieving this with Swing.

    I try to show a list of offers. When an advertiser insert a large title, the margin of an item (offer) will be showed what shouldn't. I've tried different layouts but that doesn't work.     The following code works when running the NetBeans IDE. this.getFrame().setIconImage(Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("PlagiaLyzerIcon.png")); However, once it was built into Jar file, the icon was gone. Anyone has idea what's the problem? I realized I've to put the icon image on the root directory, however, after compiling into JAR, the icon gone. Thanks for any help..

    I need to decide on which one to use. My case is pretty simple. I need to convert a simple POJO/Bean to XML, and then back. Nothing special. One thing I am looking for is it should include the parent properties as well. Best would be if it can work on super type, which can be just a marker interface. If anyone can compare these two with cons and pros, and which thing is missing in which one. I know that XStream supports JSON too, thats a plus. But Simple looked simpler in a glance, if we set JSON aside. Whats the future of Simple in terms of development and community? XStream is quite popular I believe, even the word, "XStream", hit many threads on SO. Thanks.

  • javax.sql.DataSource.getConnection() locks system

    I'm using the Apache Commons DBCP library for connection pooling in a desktop application. I've done this before and never had a problem but the latest application has started sometimes locking up on the call to getConnection() on my DataSource. The application just hangs after that call. I'm closing up my resources when I'm done with them. Is there any known reason why this might happen? I'm not even sure where to being troubleshooting this now that I've got it narrowed down to this method. It doesn't always hang - sometimes it happens fairly quickly, sometimes it takes a long time. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, although lately I can get it to happen within a few minutes.

  • Alternative Control Structures

    I've been wondering about alternative ways to write control structures. One that you learn early on for if statements is a replacement for this: if ( x ) { // true } else { // false } with this (sometimes this is more readable compared to lots of brackets): x ? true : false It got me thinking. Can we replace anything else incase it's more readable. We of course replace if statements like this: if (a < b) { return true; } else { return false; } with things like this: return a < b; We can save a long if with something like this (pretty much same as the one above): bool xCollisionTrue = (object.xPos < aabb.maxX && object.xPos > aabb.minX); So those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head for the if statement and doing comparisons. So I'm wondering what about looping constructs, for, while, etc. Maybe the code obfuscators might have some ideas.

  • Eclipse execute a file in jar

    Hi I'm developing an Eclipse product. In my plugin i have added an executable file (.exe) which i need to execute. When i launch the product from the eclipse, the file is referenced using the path of the executable on my file system and all went ok. When i export the product the plugin is packaged in a jar file which contains the executable file too. When it references the file the path is something like : $path_to_the_plugin_jar!/$path_to_exe_file_inside_the_jar Using this path to launch a new Process Thrown an exception. How can i refer to a file inside a jar?How could i execute the file? Can i extract the file when i export the product with eclipse? thanks

    I'm having trouble when one of the jars that my web app depends on tries to load a properties file from within the jar. Here is the code in the jar. static { Properties props = new Properties(); try { props.load(ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("someProps.properties")); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } someProperty = props.getProperty("someKey"); } The properties file is in my "src/main/resources" directory of the Maven project. When I run this code from my junit test in Eclipse, it executes just fine. When the project is built with Maven into a jar, and included as a dependency in my webb app, it fails to locate the properties file. I know that the properties file is at the base directory of the depended on jar, I don't know how to fix this. Please help!

  • httpClient proxy support in apache commons 3.1

    I am using apache commons 3.1 to implement httpClient with proxy support. I am trying to connect to a remote host through proxy. The proxy server is configured without any authentication, however the the remote host is configured with authentication. When I am passing the proxy parameters through properties file, it gives warning while execution: WARN - Required proxy credentials not available for BASIC @xx.xx.xx.xx WARN - Preemptive authentication requested but no default proxy credentials availble But the execution goes ahead. On the other hand when I am passing the proxy parameters through the JVM arguments then the again the same warning is given and the execution is stopped. Is there any specific reason for this behavior? Is there any difference in passing the proxy parameters through properties file and through JVM arg?   • Google App Engine - Calling getSession().invalidate(); causes app engine to act weird.

    When I call hreq.getSession().invalidate(); app engine slows down tremendously. I looked at appstats and saw that on a page where no database calls are made, it was calling memcache.get and datastore.get 23 times each. The stack trace of these calls showed that it was being called from getSession(). This only happens on the production server. Every time I make a request to a page, it makes a bunch of memcache and datastore calls. This slow down goes away though when i restart my browser. When I changed the code to simply set the isLoggedIn property of the session to false, rather than calling hreq.getSession().invalidate();, everything was fine. As a test, I didn't invalidate my session, but I changed the value of my browser's session cookie, and the app engine exhibited the same behavior. Is this a bug with the app engine?

    I am trying to generate Excel reports using Apache POI 3.6 (latest). Since POI has limited support for header and footer generation (text only), I decided to start from a blank excel file with the header already prepared and fill the Excel cells using POI (cf. question 714172). Unfortunately, when opening the workbook with POI and writing it immediately to disk (without any cell manpulation), the header seems to be lost.   • The "Why" behind PMD's rules.

    Is there a good resource which describes the "why" behind PMD rule sets? PMD's site has the "what" - what each rule does - but it doesn't describe why PMD has that rule and why ignoring that rule can get you in trouble in the real world. In particular, I'm interested in knowing why PMD has the AvoidInstantiatingObjectsInLoops and OnlyOneReturn rules (the first seems necessary if you need to create a new object corresponding to each object in a collection, the second seems like it is a necessity in many cases that return a value based on some criteria). Just to be clear, I know that I can disable these and how to do that, I'm just wondering why they are there in the first place. Sorry if there's something obvious I missed out there, but I did a Google search and SO search before posting this.
