  • Accessing network shares through ASP.Net

    In my impersonation enabled web site I needed to access files on a network share.  Running locally, everything worked fine. After deploying out to the dev server and hitting the web site from my PC, things fell apart. With impersonation enabled, we can access files on the server itself, but a network share is another story.  Accessing a share on another server, we encounter the infamous "double hop" situation, were the credentials have already been digested on the web server and are not available for the file server. We need to either expose the shared files to the identity IIS is running under, or create a new impersonation context.

  • ASP.NET AJAX MultiHandleSliderExtender - Slide by Year and Month

    In this tutorial, I will demonstrate how to use the MultiHandleSlider extender to select and display both the year and the month in a range. This control eliminates the need to use four DropDownlist controls to hold the range values and the need for a validation control. Then we will use the Column Chart to display number of cars on Sesame Street based on the selected range values. This chart allows the user to drill down into the details for the selected car brands.

  • Focusing and Selecting the Text in ASP.NET TextBox Controls

    When a browser displays the HTML sent from a web server it parses the received markup into a Document Object Model, or DOM, which models the markup as a hierarchical structure. Each element in the markup - the <form> element, <div> elements, <p> elements, <input> elements, and so on - are represented as a node in the DOM and can be programmatically accessed from client-side script. What's more, the nodes that make up the DOM have functions that can be called to perform certain behaviors; what functions are available depend on what type of element the node represents. One function common to most all node types is focus, which gives keyboard focus to the corresponding element. The focus function is commonly used in data entry forms, search pages, and login screens to put the user's keyboard cursor in a particular textbox when the web page loads so that the user can start typing in his search query or username without having to first click the textbox with his mouse. Another useful function is select, which is available for <input> and <textarea> elements and selects the contents of the textbox. This article shows how to call an HTML element's focus and select functions.     I've upgraded from 10.10 to 12.04. The situation: I plug the dongle in and enter the password. If I click 'Enable Mobile Broadband' and I get a notice on the top right saying 'GSM network. You are now registered on the home network'. At this stage I have not actually connected and when I click my broadband connection i see that 'Enable Mobile Boardband' is unticked AGAIN and I cannot connect to my broadbnad connection when I click it.

  • How to pull SNMP information from Windows commandline without installing software

    I would like to be able to quickly pull SNMP information via commandline such as device uptime. I noticed Net-SNMP's snmpget.exe can do this; but it looks like I need to install Net-SNMP first before I can use that executable. Isn't there any way to make this executable portable? When I simply copy it to another machine and try to execute it, it complains that netsnmp.dll is missing. If I copy that file to the same folder, it still says the file is missing. I even tried to regsvr32 that dll, but I was unsuccessful. Maybe there's a better way to get simple SNMP information from the Windows command line using royalty free/non-commercial software?
