• What is this C function supposed to do based on description?

Can someone tell me what exactly the function is supposed to do? All the description says is what I have pasted above, so I'm not sure what my goal is. I'm sure it is an easy enough function to program on my own, but it would help if someone could tell me what the function is supposed to do, and maybe provide sample input/output so that I know my code is working correctly once I program this. • Why does Apple use Objective-C for iPhone development? (App Store)

  I'm interested to know your opinion on why Apple uses a language such as Objective-C for app development. Does Apple's app store allow apps written only in this language? Does apple even look at your source-code or does it just care of the binary output? I learned that most of their app rejection (in the app store) is based upon apps crashing (probably memory leaks in which Objective-c is not very efficient unless you use a GC). Why not let developers use a safer language, like a scripting language? I think these are important questions for a developer (I don't even use Apple's products) because it seems like Apple's app store is the MOST successful app sale place on the web.

  I'm not sure if this is even a good question or not. I have a complex query with lot's of unions that searches multiple tables for a certain keyword (user input). All tables in which there is searched are related to the table book. There is paging on the resultset using LIMIT, so there's always a maximum of 10 results that get withdrawn. I want an extra column in the resultset displaying the total amount of results found however. I do not want to do this using a seperate query. Is it possible to add a count() column to the resultset that counts every result found? the output would look like this: ID Title Author Count(...) 1 book_1 auth_1 23 2 book_2 auth_2 23 4 book_4 auth_.. 23 ... Thanks!

  Hi, I wrote a program that will copy a file called a.exe to C:/Windows/, then I pack it to exe with PyInstaller, and rename the exe file to a.exe. When I run the exe file, it output IOError [Errno 13] Permisson denied: 'C:/Windows/a.exe', but the file a.exe was copied to the directory C:/Windows. Then I ran it as the Administrator, it happened again... At first, I copy the file with shututil.copy, then I wrote a function myself(open a.exe, create a.exe under C:/Windows, read a.exe 's content and write to C:/Windows/a.exe, close all), but it doesn't help...Any ideas?

  Recently when I was working with JavaScript "sort()" function, I found in one of the tutorials that this function does not sort the numbers properly. Instead to sort numbers, a function must be added that compares numbers, like the following code:- <script type="text/javascript"> function sortNumber(a,b) { return a - b; } var n = ["10", "5", "40", "25", "100", "1"]; document.write(n.sort(sortNumber)); </script> The output then comes as:- 1,5,10,25,40,100 Now what I didn't understand is that why is this occurring & can anybody please tell in details as to what type of algorithm is being used in this "sort()" function? This is because for any other language, I didn't find this problem where the function didn't sort the numbers correctly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  Hi, I've 2 machines with names Comp1, Comp2. There is a DNS name for them, that mask them as one, let say DNSName. I get IP addresses for both machines via Dns.GetHostEntry("DNSName"). But when I try get Dns.GetHostEntry(ipAddress) entry.HostName always contains DNSName. I found some way to get name through WMI. But our policy doesn't allow WMI on remote machines. I can do parsing of nbstat -a output, but I would like to do some clean aproach to this. Is there some way?

  Lets say I write char c[99] = {'Stack Overflow'}; in C or C++ it does compiles fine but does this valid? By valid I meant not invoking any kind of undefined or unspecified behavior. Again if I write char c[99] = 'Stack Overflow'; gcc complains about multicharacter constant which is obvious but in the above when I am enclosing within curly brackets compiler is happy! why is it so ? I also notice that puts(c); after the first statement will output 'w' precisely the last character of a general string in-place of Stack Overflow. why so ? Could somebody explain this behavior may be separately.

• Writing different structs to a file in C++? [on hold]

  I need a way to write structures of three different kinds to a binary file, which later has to be searched. (As in, for example, struct A has two fields, an int and a char; struct B has int and a long; I need to output all structures whose int equals the one given from keyboard). I understand how to write structs of the same kind to a file and how to search them, but here I am just lost, best thing I came up with is declaring a struct containing all possibly needed fields and leaving the ones I don't need empty, but it really feels wrong, there HAS to be a better way to do that. I've read about binary files and could not find anything relevant, most examples and tutorials deal with writing one data type. Could anyone point me in the right direction? EDIT: I am looking for what @Jerry_coffin called database mode, and will probably use one of the existing database systems for that, best way to go, probably. Thank you everybody for the suggestions

When I save a test string it works, but when I try to save the string variable I've created, nothing happens. But when I return the string, the output seems to be correct! • Recording app sound in iphone

  Hi, I am developing a music mixing app in iphone. It'll mix the music and user can compose a new music from it. I need to record this final music. I had used AVAudiorecorder to record this one. But no change. It can record sound from microphone but I need to record app sound. I had used audio queue call back function to record the audio. But when app runs I can hear the audio from my app and I couldn't hear any sound from recorded audio. There is no problem with recording since I can hear the audio recorded through microphone. But I need an offline recorder which can record the audio output of iphone, rather than the audio input through microphone. I need a recorder which can record audio using ipod touch (no microphone). Any help?

• How to find the real problem line in my code with Application Verifier ?

  I am now trying to use this Application Verifier debugging tool, but i am stuck, first of all: it breaks the program at a line that is simple variable set line (s = 1; for example) Secondly, now when i run this program under debugger, my program seems to have changed its behaviour: i am drawing image, and now one of the colors has changed o_O, all those parts of the image that i dont draw on, has changed the color to #CDCDCD when it should be #000000, and i already set the default color to zero, still it becomes to #CDCDCD. How do i make any sense to this? Here is the output AV gave me: VERIFIER STOP 00000002: pid 0x8C0: Access violation exception. 14873000 : Invalid address causing the exception 004E422C : Code address executing the invalid access 0012EB08 : Exception record 0012EB24 : Context record AVRF: Noncontinuable verifier stop 00000002 encountered.   I am currently trying to build a very basic serial shell with my arduino. I am able to get an output from the device using Serial.read() and can get the character it has outputted, but I cannot work out how to then add that character to a longer to form the full command. • Does 'throw' or 'try...catch' hinder performance?

  I've been reading all over the place (including here) about when exception should / shouldn't be used. I now want to change my code that would throw to make the method return false and handle it like that, but my question is: Is it the throwing or try..catch-ing that can hinder performance...? What I mean is, would this be acceptable: bool method someMmethod() { try { // ...Do something catch (Exception ex) // Don't care too much what at the moment... { // Output error // Return false } return true // No errors Or would there be a better way to do it? (I'm bloody sick of seeing "Unhandled exception..." LOL!)
