  • Characters count only start counting on the 2nd character??

    I have a function that calculates how many characters remaining the user can type, but I don't know why it only starts counting from the 2nd characters.   • FormsAuthentication, can I create a custom cookie?

    When the browser closes, I want the session to end = logged out. The FormAuthenticationTicket class doesnt' have a overload that is suitable for me. I don't want to set the expires property, so when the user closes the browser it logs him out. But I need: version, Name, UserData So I guess I have to create my own cookie? is there a way to create a custom cookie, but still uses forms authentication to encrypt and decrypt things?

    When you create and use a Web Service proxy class in the ASP.Net framework, the class ultimately inherits from Component, which implements IDisposable. I have never seen one example online where people dispose of a web proxy class, but was wondering if it really needs to be done. When I call only one method, I normally wrap it in a using statement, but if I have a need to call it several times throughout the page, I might end up using the same instance, and just wondered what the ramifications are of not disposing it.

    Coding Platform: ASP.NET 4.0 I am binding a GridView with LinqDataSource with AutoDelete functionality enabled. GridView is bound to the Products Table. I have a Products Table and a Category Table with an association on CategoryID. If I try to delete a Category that is referred in the Products Table I cannot do that. Its is totally acceptable, but I want the end user to be notified with some error message. Where to catch this error message?

The sr object is not in scope in ErrHandler so sr.Close() cannot be called. Does the Using block cleanup any resources automatically even if there is an error?

    I'm going through some AS3 training, but I'm getting a weird error... I'm trying to add an event listener to the end of a motion tween in AS. I've created a tween, highlighted the frames, right clicked and copied the tween as AS and pasted it into the movie clip (I think there's a better way to do this, but I'm not sure what it is...) When I try to add the listener to the end of that code, I get the error.   • Delphi - Read File To StringList, then delete and write back to file.

    I'm currently working on a program to generate the hashes of files, in Delphi 2010. As part of this I have a option to create User Presets, e.g. pre-defined choice of hashing algo's which the user can create/save/delete. I have the create and load code working fine. It uses a ComboBox and loads from a file "fhpre.ini", inside this file is the users presets stored in format of:- PresetName PresetCode (a 12 digit string using 0 for don't hash and 1 for do) On application loading it loads the data from this file into the ComboBox and an Array with the ItemIndex of ComboBox matching the corrisponding correct string of 0's and 1's in the Array. Now I need to implement a feature to have the user delete a preset from the list. However, I have been thinking that I'd like to make a version of my library available for Windows desktop developers as well. Once I have finished the same, I'd like to distribute and promote it to get feedback, bug reports, and suggestions. Are there good developer forums for promoting and distributing applications or libraries in this way?

    Is there anyway to stop automatic DataContext inheritance in Silverlight? I Set my DataContext on my parent UserControl in code. As a result all the xaml bindings inside the UserControl try to bind to the new DataConext they get (through the automatic DataContext Inheritance). The DataContext's for the children elements (actually they are children of children of children) of the UserControl is something I need to set in the UserControl's code... I don't want them being all smart because they end up binding to the wrong data object! :-)

    Hi, I want to use email for signing in, and to allow users to have similar names. One way to do this is to rename login/username field to something different. However, I want to do it just by setting up authlogic. I tried the following acts_as_authentic do |c| c.login_field :email c.validate_login_field false c.validate_email_field true end but it still complains that the login already exists. What must be done to avoid username validation without renaming the field?

    Does anyone have experience developing with ESQL/C for INFORMIX-SQL, as in calling C funcs within "Perform" screen generator and "ACE" report writer? I have ISQL without ESQL/C. I experimented compiling a perform screen, where in the instructions section I put "ON BEGINNING CALL userfunc() END" and although I don't have ESQL/C, the Perform screen successfully compiled without errors!.. Apparently, the compiler didn't reject the C call even though there's no ESQL/C or C program linked.

In that case, the next time I call the function, the exec() call starts where it left off, even though I am supplying it with a new value of 'text'. I can fix it by writing var pattern = new RegExp('.....'); instead, but I don't understand why the first version is failing. How is the regular expression persisting between function calls? (This is happening in the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome.) It consists of eliminating useless words such as "how" "you" "to" then using a premade Stemmer class that reduces words to their root so "Appointments" searches "appoint" However in the end I'm really only searching keywords and the results are not very accurate.   • Access Creates new file every time I Compact & Repair

    It didn't always do this, but ever since I split my database and made the front-end an ACCDE file, any time I try to compact and repair either file, a new file called "Database 1" is generated and my original file size doesn't change. Is this normal? My ACCDB is roughly 20MB, and my ACCDE is just over 1M after being used the first time. Before opening, the ACCDE was only 600k (I have lots of forms and queries, and regularly store PDF attachments.
