  • Reading binary data from serial port using Dejan TComport Delphi component

    - by johnma
Apologies for this question but I am a bit of a noob with Delphi. I am using Dejan TComport component to get data from a serial port. A box of equipment connected to the port sends about 100 bytes of binary data to the serial port. What I want to do is extract the bytes as numerical values into an array so that I can perform calculations on them. TComport has a method Read(buffer,Count) which reads DATA from input buffer. function Read(var Buffer; Count: Integer): Integer; The help says the Buffer variable must be large enough to hold Count bytes but does not provide any example of how to use this function. I can see that the Count variable holds the number of bytes received but I can't find a way to access the bytes in Buffer. TComport also has a methord Readstr which reads data from input buffer into a STRING variable. function ReadStr(var Str: String; Count: Integer): Integer; Again the Count variable shows the number of bytes received and I can use Memo1.Text:=str to display some information but obviously Memo1 has problems displaying the control characters. I have tried various ways to try and extract the byte data from Str but so far without success. I am sure it must be easy. Here's hoping.

  • Parsing XML with the PHP XMLReader

    - by coffeecoder
Hi Guys, I am writing program that reads in some XML from the $_POST variable and then parses using the PHP XMLReader and the data extracted input into a database. I am using the XMLReader as the XML supplied will more than likely be too big to place into memory. However I am having some issues, my XML and basic code as are follows: '<?xml version="1.0"?> <data_root> <data> <info>value</info> </data> <action>value</action> </data_root>' $request = $_REQUEST['xml']; $reader = new XMLReader(); $reader->XML($request); while($reader->read()){ //processing code } $reader->close() My problem is that the code will work perfectly if the XML being passed does not have the <?xml version="1.0"?> line, but if i include it, and it will be included when the application goes into a live production environment, the $reader->read() code for the while loop does not work and the XML is not parsed within the while loop. Has anyone seen similar behaviour before or knows why this could be happening? Thanks in advance.

  • Load Balance WCF and Share a Remote MSMQ for High Throughput

    - by BarDev
After a ton of reading in books and on the web, I have noticed hints of information that WCF and MSMQ can be used in achieving high throughput. The information I have seen mentions using multiple WCF services in a farm that reads from a single MSMQ queue. The problem is that I have found paragraphs here and there that mentions that high throughput can be done, but I cannot seem to find a document of how to implement it. The following is an excerpt from a MSDN article. The following paragraph is from Best Practices for Queued Communication http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms731093.aspx To achieve higher throughput and availability, use a farm of WCF services that read from the queue. This requires that all of these services expose the same contract on the same endpoint. The farm approach works best for applications that have high production rates of messages because it enables a number of services to all read from the same queue. This is what I'm trying to solve. I have an intranet application where a client sends a request to a WCF service. But I want the ability to load balance the WCF services on multiple servers in a farm. I also want these WCF services in the farm to do transactional reads from a remote MSMQ when an item is available in the Queue. If this is possible, an issue I have is that I do not understand the activation process of WCF to retrieve messages from a remote queue. If this is possible, does anyone know of any articles or Webcasts that would explain it in detail? BarDev

  • Multilingual spellcheck on WPF richtextbox

    - by sub-jp
I need to turn spellcheck on for a richtextbox, and set the language to one the user has picked from a drop down. For now, I'm just testing it by building the richtextbox in xaml and providing a language to the xaml language attribute. I've read two different resources and one says I need to set the language attribute, and the other says I need to set the xml:lang attribute. Neither seems to work. I've tried setting either one to "es" for Spanish, and I've also tried setting both to "es". I've also tried french by setting them to "fr-FR", without success. The only thing that happens is that english words aren't marked, but the other language words are marked as misspelled. I also read that I need to change the keyboard language. This would be a problem for my application as the language within the application needs to be switched on the fly, so having the end user go to their keyboard settings just so spellcheck will work is a problem. However, I've changed my keyboard settings, and spell check still does not work properly. This time it doesn't mark anything as misspelled, even misspelled english words. What am I missing? Edit: some links to my references above http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.controls.spellcheck(v=VS.100).aspx http://www.dev102.com/2008/03/25/customize-spellcheck-on-wpf-text-controls/ http://books.google.com/books?id=clLc5BBHqRMC&pg=PA121&lpg=PA121&dq=C%23+wpf+enable+spellcheck&source=bl&ots=_r59pZRDjP&sig=yHMBc39EHKK5gaRMzxlBaEsY890&hl=en&ei=oXnIS8zWH4G88gaq48yGBw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6&ved=0CBMQ6AEwBQ#v=onepage&q&f=false

  • Trying to exclude certain extensions doing a recursive copy (MSBuild)

    - by Kragen
I'm trying to use MSBuild to read in a list of files from a text file, and then perform a recursive copy, copying the contents of those directories files to some staging area, while excluding certain extensions (e.g. .tmp files) I've managed to do most of the above quite easily using CreateItem and the MSBuild copy task, whatever I do the CreateItem task just ignores my Exclude parameter: <PropertyGroup> <RootFolder>c:\temp</RootFolder> <ExcludeFilter>*.tmp</ExcludeFilter> <StagingDirectory>staging</StagingDirectory> </PropertyGroup> <ItemGroup> <InputFile Include="MyFile.txt" /> </ItemGroup> <Target Name="Build"> <ReadLinesFromFile File="@(InputFile)"> <Output ItemName="AllFolders" TaskParameter="Lines" /> </ReadLinesFromFile> <CreateItem Include="$(RootFolder)\%(AllFolders.RelativeDir)**" Exclude="$(ExcludeFilter)"> <Output ItemName="AllFiles" TaskParameter="Include" /> </CreateItem> <Copy SourceFiles="@(AllFiles)" DestinationFolder="$(StagingDirectory)\%(RecursiveDir)" Example contents of 'MyFile.txt': somedirectory\ someotherdirectory\ (I.e. the paths are relative to $(RootFolder) - mention this because I read somewhere that it might be relevant) I've tried loads of different combinations of Exclude filters, but I never seem to be able to get it to correctly exclude my .tmp files - is there any way of doing this with MSBuild without resorting to xcopy?

  • UI design in flash games

    - by anon
This question is more UI/Design-ish than hard-core programming is. Background: I've been coding in VIM/C++/OpenGL for a long time. I've come to realize that this (VIM/C++/OpenGL) isn't the way to learn about programming fancy/cool-looking/futuristic UIs; and that the design of such UIs belongs more so in the artistic/designer world of Flash. Anyway, I currently have a machine with MacOSX. What software should I install? What book should I read to learn about the artistic/design side of these futuristic UIs? [It's okay if the tools to design them are mouse clicking + graphical rather than coding based]. Question: what software packages + books to read to learn about creating fancy-looking / futuristic UIs in flash? Thanks! EDIT: PS these questions seem to get closed frequently. If you're going to vote to close for "duplicate question"; atleast provide a link to the question (with an answer).

  • Why is Dispatcher.Invoke not triggering UI update?

    - by Brandon
I am trying to reuse a UserControl and also borrow some logic that keeps track of progress. I'll try and simplify things. MyWindow.xaml includes a MyUserControl. MyUserControl has its own progress indicator (Formatting in progress..., Copying files..., etc.) and I'd like to mirror this progress somewhere in the MyWindow form. But, the user control has some logic I don't quite understand. I've read and read but I still don't understand the Dispatcher. Here's a summary of the logic in the user control that updates the progress. this.Dispatcher.Invoke(DispatcherPriority.Input, (Action)(() => { DAProgressIndicator = InfiniteProgress.AddNewInstanceToControl(StatusGrid, new SolidColorBrush(new Color() { A = 170, R = 128, G = 128, B = 128 }), string.Empty); DAProgressIndicator.Message = MediaCardAdminRes.ActivatingCard; ActivateInProgress = true; })); I thought I'd be smart and add an event to MyUserControl that would be called in the ActivateInProgress property set logic. public bool ActivateInProgress { get { return _activateInProgress; } set { _activateInProgress = value; if (ActivateInProgressHandler != null) { ActivateInProgressHandler(value); } } } I'm setting the ActivateInProgressHandler within the MyWindow constructor to the following method that sets the view model property that is used for the window's own progress indicator. private void SetActivation(bool activateInProgress) { viewModel.ActivationInProgress = activateInProgress; } However, the window's progress indicator never changes. So, I'm convinced that the Dispatcher.Invoke is doing something that I don't understand. If I put a message box inside the SetActivation method, the thread blocks and the window's progress indicator is updated. I understand basic threads but this whole Dispatcher thing is new to me. What am I missing?

  • kendo ui filtering the grid table, need some idea

    - by cool_spirit
I want to filter the table by last name, but cant work, here is my code in controller public JsonResult Filtering() { HealthContext rc = new HealthContext(); var last = rc.Profiles.Select(lastt => new SelectListItem { Text = lastt.LastName, Value = lastt.Id.ToString() }).ToList(); return Json(last.ToList(), JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); } in view <script type="text/x-kendo-template" id="template"> <div class="toolbar"> <label class="category-label" for="Last name"> by last name:</label> <input type="search" id="LastName" style="width: 230px"></input> </div> </script> and also <script> $(document).ready(function() { $("#grid").kendoGrid({ dataSource: { transport: { read: { url: "/Profiles/GetJsonData", dataType: "json" } }, pageSize: 10, }, toolbar: kendo.template($("#template").html()), height: 250, filterable: true, sortable: true, pageable: true, defaultSorting: 'LastName ASC', columns: [{ field: "Id", filterable: false }, { field: "FirstName", title: "First Name", width: 100, }, { field: "LastName", title: "Last Name", width: 200 }, { field: "Gender", title: "Gender" } ] }); var dropDown = grid.find("#LastName").kendoDropDownList({ dataTextField: "LastName", dataValueField: "Id", autoBind: false, optionLabel: "All", dataSource: { severFiltering: true, transport: { read: { url: "/Profiles/Filtering", dataType: "json" } }, }, change: function() { var value = this.value(); if (value) { grid.data("kendoGrid").dataSource.filter({ field: "Id", operator: "eq", value: parseInt(value) }); } else { grid.data("kendoGrid").dataSource.filter({}); } } }); }); </script> so the problem is the drop down list is not show up as well as the value/ data, any idea guys?

  • iPhone: Fastest way to create a binary Plist with simple key/value strings

    - by randombits
What's the best way to create a binary plist on the iPhone with simple string based key/value pairs? I need to create a plist with a list of recipe and ingredients. I then want to be able to read this into an NSDictionary so I can do something like NSString *ingredients = [recipes objectForKey:@"apple pie"]; I'm reading in an XML data file through an HTTP request and want to parse all of the key value pairs into the plist. The XML might look something like: <recipes> <recipe> <name>apple pie</name> <ingredients>apples and pie</ingredients> </recipe> <recipe> <name>cereal</name> <ingredients>milk and some other ingredients</ingredients> </recipe> </recipes> Ideally, I'll be able to write this to a plist at runtime, and then be able to read it and turn it into an NSDictionary later at runtime as well.

  • Unable to fetch initial output of "defrag" commad in Windows Server 2008 R2 in WOW64 environment.

    - by Ganesh
Hi All, [Application & code back ground] I have an MFC application which is executing on Windows Server 2008 R2 in WOW64 environment. In which on user input it defragments the selected drive on the disk. I initiated the process(.i.e. cmd /c defrag –v c:) of defragmentation using the CreateProcess() API, along with this to display output of the process on the main screen I created the pipe using CreatePipe() API. I used PeekNamedPipe() & ReadFile() API to get the output and display. [Problem Area] When the process is launched I am not getting the initial output as below: Microsoft Disk fragmenter Copyright © 2007 Microsoft Crop. Invoking defragmentation on (C:)…. I constantly monitor the output of the process while it is under progress but not able to get any thing as output in the pipe. It seem the process is not doing any thing and appears as if the application is not responding. But after certain period of time, once the process is about to completed I get result along with the initial data. [Sample code] //Pipe created if(0 == ::CreatePipe(&l_hStdOutRead, &l_hStdOutWrite, &l_SecurityAttribute, (DWORD)NULL)) { //Error code } //Process created/launched if (0 == ::CreateProcess(NULL, (LPTSTR)f_csProcessName, &l_stSecurityAttributes, NULL, TRUE, CREATE_NO_WINDOW, NULL,NULL, &l_StartupInfo, &l_CmdPI)) { //Error code } //Read output if (0 == ::PeekNamedPipe(m_hStdOutRead, l_cArrPeekBuffer, (DWORD)NULL, (LPDWORD)NULL, &l_dwAvailable, (LPDWORD)NULL)) { //Return to read again } if (MPLUSFALSE == ::ReadFile(m_hStdOutRead, l_cArrOutput, min(BUFFER_SIZE - 2, l_dwAvailable), &l_dwRead, NULL) || !l_dwRead) { //error code } //Display data. If any one is aware of similar problem or worked on the similar issue please let me know the solution. Thanks in Advance, Ganesh

  • Searching for flexible way to specify conenction string used by APS.NET membership

    - by bzamfir
Hi, I develop an asp.net web application and I use ASP.NET membership provider. The application uses the membership schema and all required objects inside main application database However, during development I have to switch to various databases, for different development and testing scenarios. For this I have an external connection strings section file and also an external appsettings section, which allow me to not change main web.config but switch the db easily, by changing setting only in appsettings section. My files are as below: <connectionStrings configSource="connections.config"> </connectionStrings> <appSettings file="local.config"> .... ConnectionStrings looks as usual: <connectionStrings> <add name="MyDB1" connectionString="..." ... /> <add name="MyDB2" connectionString="..." ... /> .... </connectionStrings> And local.config as below <appSettings> <add key="ConnectionString" value="MyDB2" /> My code takes into account to use this connection string But membership settings in web.config contains the connection string name directly into the setting, like <add name="MembershipProvider" connectionStringName="MyDB2" ...> .... <add name="RoleProvider" connectionStringName="MyDB2" ...> Because of this, every time I have to edit them too to use the new db. Is there any way to config membership provider to use an appsetting to select db connection for membership db? Or to "redirect" it to read connection setting from somewhere else? Or at least to have this in some external file (like local.config) Maybe is some easy way to wrap asp.net membership provider intio my own provider which will just read connection string from where I want and pass it to original membership provider, and then just delegate the whole membership functionality to asp.net membership provider. Thanks.

  • Search SharePoint ULS Logs with Windows

    - by djeeg
Hi, I have a standard/new Windows 2008 R2 install with SharePoint 2010 and am looking for a SharePoint expectation that occurred sometime during the last week. So I open windows explorer, then go to the logs directory (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS). In the toolbar I can enter some search text (exception) or i can Ctrl-F which puts my cursor in the same search box. First it searches the filenames, comes back with no results, and then i click File Contents. And it comes back with still no results. Now I think, maybe there are no errors, so i search for something that I know is in the log (w3wp), still no results. In previous versions of windows, i could usually fix this by making *.log files read as text. But apparently (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725753(WS.10).aspx) *.log files should already be read as text. Any idea how to make the search, really search log files. I would prefer a solution that did not involve installing any 3rd party software (eg like ULSViewer), but registry/powershell settings are okay.

  • weird result with c# winForms array of Lists

    - by jello
    so I'm trying to store values in an array of Lists in C# winForms. In the for loop in which I make the sql statment, everything works fine: the message box outputs a different medication name each time. for (int i = 0; i < numberOfMeds; i++) { queryStr = "select * from biological where medication_name = '" + med_names[i] + "' and patient_id = " + patientID.patient_id; using (var conn = new SqlConnection(connStr)) using (var cmd = new SqlCommand(queryStr, conn)) { conn.Open(); using (SqlDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { while (rdr.Read()) { medObject.medication_date = (DateTime)rdr["patient_history_date_bio"]; medObject.medication_name = rdr["medication_name"].ToString(); medObject.medication_dose = Convert.ToInt32(rdr["medication_dose"]); medsList[i].Add(medObject); } } conn.Close(); MedicationTimelineClass medObjectx = medsList[i][0] as MedicationTimelineClass; MessageBox.Show(medObjectx.medication_name); } } but then, when I take the message box code out of the loop, meaning that the array of Lists is supposed to be populated, I always get the same value: the last value entered. the same medication name, no matter what number I put between those brackets. It's like if the whole array of Lists is populated with the same data. for (int i = 0; i < numberOfMeds; i++) { queryStr = "select * from biological where medication_name = '" + med_names[i] + "' and patient_id = " + patientID.patient_id; using (var conn = new SqlConnection(connStr)) using (var cmd = new SqlCommand(queryStr, conn)) { conn.Open(); using (SqlDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { while (rdr.Read()) { medObject.medication_date = (DateTime)rdr["patient_history_date_bio"]; medObject.medication_name = rdr["medication_name"].ToString(); medObject.medication_dose = Convert.ToInt32(rdr["medication_dose"]); medsList[i].Add(medObject); } } conn.Close(); } } MedicationTimelineClass medObjectx = medsList[0][0] as MedicationTimelineClass; MessageBox.Show(medObjectx.medication_name); what's going on here?

  • USB Barcode Scanner and WM_KEYDOWN

    - by Bryce Fischer
I am trying to write a program that can will read a barcode scanner. In addition, I need it to read the input even when the application is not the window in focus (i.e., running in system tray, etc). I found this article, titled Distinguishing Barcode Scanners from the Keyboard in WinForms, that seems to solve the exact problem. It is working pretty good, it detects my device and handles the WM_INPUT message. However, it is checking to see if the RAWINPUT.keyboard.Message is WM_KEYDOWN (0x100). It never seems to receive this. The only line of code I've altered in the code provided in the article is adding a Console.Out.WriteLine to output the actual values of that message: Console.Out.WriteLine("message: {0}", raw.keyboard.Message.ToString("X")); if (raw.keyboard.Message == NativeMethods.WM_KEYDOWN) { .... Here is what it outputs: message: B message: 1000B message: 3 message: 10003 message: 8 message: 10008 message: 3 message: 10003 message: 5 message: 10005 message: 3 message: 10003 message: 8 message: 10008 message: 8 message: 10008 message: 4 message: 10004 message: 9 message: 10009 message: 9 message: 10009 message: 3 message: 10003 The value I'm expecting to receive when this completes correctly is: 257232709 Which I verified by scanning to notepad. I don't know if the Operation System is relevant here, but I figured I should mention that I'm running this in Windows 7 64 and Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 3.5. Scanner is a USB Barcode Scanner, Symbol LS2208, setup as "HID KEYBOARD EMULATION"

  • Wpf progressbar not updating during method calculation

    - by djerry
Hey guys, In my app, i have an import option, to read info from a .csv or .txt file and write it to a database. To test, i"m just using 200-300 lines of data. At the beginning of the method, i calculate number of objects/lines to be read. Every time an object is written to the database, i want to update my progressbar. This is how i do it : private void Update(string path) { double lines = 0; using (StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(path)) while ((reader.ReadLine()) != null) lines++; if (lines != 0) { double progress = 0; string lijn; double value = 0; List<User> users = new List<User>(); using (StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(path)) while ((line = reader.ReadLine()) != null) { progress++; value = (progress / lines) * 100.0; updateProgressBar(value); try { User user = ProcessLine(lijn); } catch (ArgumentOutOfRangeException) { continue; } catch (Exception) { continue; } } return; } else { //non relevant code } } To update my progressbar, i'm checking if i can change the ui of the progressbar like this : delegate void updateProgressbarCallback(double value); private void updateProgressBar(double value) { if (pgbImportExport.Dispatcher.CheckAccess() == false) { updateProgressbarCallback uCallBack = new updateProgressbarCallback(updateProgressBar); pgbImportExport.Dispatcher.Invoke(uCallBack, value); } else { Console.WriteLine(value); pgbImportExport.Value = value; } } When i!m looking at the output, the values are calculated correctly, but the progressbar is only showing changes after the method has been called completely, so when the job is done. That's too late to show feedback to the user. Can anyone help me solve this. EDIT : I'm also trying to show some text in labels to tell te user what is being done, and those aren't udpated till after the method is complete. Thanks in advance.

  • C# serialPort speed

    - by MarekK
Hi I am developing some monitoring tool for some kind of protocol based on serial communication. Serial BaudRate=187,5kb I use System.IO.Ports.SerialPort class. This protocol has 4 kinds of frames. They have 1Byte,3Bytes,6Bytes, 10-255Bytes. I can work with them but I receive them too late to respond. For the beginning I receive first packed after ex. 96ms (too late), and it contains about 1000B. This means 20-50 frames (too much, too late). Later its work more stable, 3-10Bytes but it is still too late because it contains 1-2 frames. Of Course 1 frame is OK, but 2 is too late. Can you point me how can I deal with it more reliable? I know it is possible. Revision1: I tried straight way: private void serialPort1_DataReceived(object sender, SerialDataReceivedEventArgs e) { if (!serialPort1.IsOpen) return; this.BeginInvoke(new EventHandler(this.DataReceived)); } And Backgroud worker: And ... new Tread(Read) and... always the same. Too late, too slow. Do I have to go back to WinApi and import some kernel32.dll functions? Revision 2: this is the part of code use in the Treading way: int c = serialPort1.BytesToRead; byte[] b = new byte[c]; serialPort1.Read(b, 0, c); I guess it is some problem with stream use inside SerialPort class. Or some synchronization problem. Revision 3: I do not use both at once!! I just tried different ways. Regards MarekK

  • elisp compile, add a regexp to error detection

    - by Gauthier
I am starting with emacs, and don't know much elisp. Nearly nothing, really. I want to use ack as a replacement of grep. These are the instructions I followed to use ack from within emacs: http://www.rooijan.za.net/?q=ack_el Now I don't like the output format that is used in this el file, I would like the output to be that of ack --group. So I changed: (read-string "Ack arguments: " "-i" nil "-i" nil) to: (read-string "Ack arguments: " "-i --group" nil "-i --group" nil) So far so good. But this made me lose the ability to click-press_enter on the rows of the output buffer. In the original behaviour, compile-mode was used to be able to jump to the selected line. I figured I should add a regexp to the ack-mode. The ack-mode is defined like this: (define-compilation-mode ack-mode "Ack" "Specialization of compilation-mode for use with ack." nil) and I want to add the regexp [0-9]+: to be detected as an error too, since it is what every row of the output bugger includes (line number). I've tried to modify the define-compilation-modeabove to add the regexp, but I failed miserably. How can I make the output buffer of ack let me click on its rows? --- EDIT, I tried also: --- (defvar ack-regexp-alist '(("[0-9]+:" 2 3)) "Alist that specifies how to match rows in ack output.") (setq compilation-error-regexp-alist (append compilation-error-regexp-alist ack-regexp-alist)) I stole that somewhere and tried to adapt to my needs. No luck.

  • Proper way to implement IXmlSerializable?

    - by Greg
    Once a programmer decides to implement IXmlSerializable, what are the rules and best practices for implementing it? I've heard that GetSchema() should return null and ReadXml should move to the next element before returning. Are these true? And what about WriteXml: should it write a root element for the object or is it assumed that the root is already written? How should child objects be treated and written. Here's a sample of what I have now. I'll update it as I get good responses. public class Calendar: IEnumerable<Gvent>, IXmlSerializable { public XmlSchema GetSchema() { return null; } public void ReadXml(XmlReader reader) { if (reader.MoveToContent() == XmlNodeType.Element && reader.LocalName == "Calendar") { _Name = reader["Name"]; _Enabled = Boolean.Parse(reader["Enabled"]); _Color = Color.FromArgb(Int32.Parse(reader["Color"])); if (reader.ReadToDescendant("Event")) { while (reader.MoveToContent() == XmlNodeType.Element && reader.LocalName == "Event") { var evt = new Event(); evt.ReadXml(reader); _Events.Add(evt); } } reader.Read(); } } public void WriteXml(XmlWriter writer) { writer.WriteAttributeString("Name", _Name); writer.WriteAttributeString("Enabled", _Enabled.ToString()); writer.WriteAttributeString("Color", _Color.ToArgb().ToString()); foreach (var evt in _Events) { writer.WriteStartElement("Event"); evt.WriteXml(writer); writer.WriteEndElement(); } } } public class Event : IXmlSerializable { public XmlSchema GetSchema() { return null; } public void ReadXml(XmlReader reader) { if (reader.MoveToContent() == XmlNodeType.Element && reader.LocalName == "Event") { _Title = reader["Title"]; _Start = DateTime.FromBinary(Int64.Parse(reader["Start"])); _Stop = DateTime.FromBinary(Int64.Parse(reader["Stop"])); reader.Read(); } } public void WriteXml(XmlWriter writer) { writer.WriteAttributeString("Title", _Title); writer.WriteAttributeString("Start", _Start.ToBinary().ToString()); writer.WriteAttributeString("Stop", _Stop.ToBinary().ToString()); } }

  • Adapt beginner C# SQL Server INSERT example to work with my database

    - by Mike Bertelsen
I have read TONS of tutorials, articles and whatever regarding my issue and honestly, due to my lack of experience I can't twist my fingers around this one so I hope some of you guys can help me out :) I am working on a project (simply to learn how to program so it's probably very basic), but I have this "News" page where I can update and delete data using a GridView. Now I would like to INSERT something into my database using 3 textboxes and 1 submit button. I have 3 rows that has to be inserted: Headline Date Content/the news itself. Which are stored under NyhedTB from the connectionstring: BoligStjernenConnectionString My query looks like this: INSERT INTO [NyhedTB] ([NyhedDato], [NyhedTitel], [NyhedTekst]) VALUES (@NyhedDato, @NyhedTitel, @NyhedTekst) I read on the internet that this code should do the magic for me (I will have to insert my own values ofc.): static void Insert() { try { string connectionString = "server=.;" + "initial catalog=employee;" + "user id=sa;" + "password=sa123"; using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString)) { conn.Open(); using (SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("INSERT INTO EmployeeDetails VALUES(" + "@Id, @Name, @Address)", conn)) { cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Id", 1); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Name", "Amal Hashim"); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Address", "Bangalore"); int rows = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); //rows number of record got inserted } } } catch (SqlException ex) { //Log exception //Display Error message } } I looked at this code and thought it should be easy enough but really, I can't figure it out.

One of the remaining things to do is make it look like the default ComboBox in Vista and 7, when the DropDownStyle is set to DropDownList (looks like a button instead of a regular ComboBox). I read much about VisualStyleRenderer, read ComboBox.cs and ComboBoxRenderer.cs, and tried to get it working. It works in the sense of, it does something. It just doesn't do what it's supposed to do. I also found an article about Vista themed Owner-Drawn Buttons, but it is in C++ (which would be a challenge on its own for me) and it seems like an awful lot of code. If anyone could supply either VB or C# code, that would be great. Below is my current code. Public Sub New() DrawMode = Windows.Forms.DrawMode.OwnerDrawFixed ItemHeight *= 2 DropDownStyle = ComboBoxStyle.DropDownList End Sub Protected Overrides Sub OnDrawItem(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.DrawItemEventArgs) If e.Index = -1 Then Return End If If Not (e.State = DrawItemState.Selected) Then e.DrawBackground() End If Dim brsh As Brush If (e.State And DrawItemState.Focus) = DrawItemState.Focus And (e.State And DrawItemState.Selected) = DrawItemState.Selected Then brsh = SystemBrushes.HighlightText Else brsh = SystemBrushes.ControlText End If e.DrawFocusRectangle() e.Graphics.DrawString(Items(e.Index), e.Font, brsh, e.Bounds) End Sub

  • PHP DOM vs SimpleXML for Atom GData feed parsing

    - by Geoff Adams
I'm building a library to access the Google Analytics Data Export API. All the data the library accesses is in Atom format and utilises numerous different namespaces throughout. My experiments with the API have used SimpleXML for parsing so far, especially as all I have been doing is accessing the data held within the feed. Now I'm coming to write a library I am wondering whether forging ahead with SimpleXML will be adequate or whether the enhanced functionality of the DOM module in PHP would be of benefit in the future. I haven't written much code for this part of the library yet so the choice is still open. I have read that the PHP DOM module can be a better choice if you need to build an XML DOM on the fly or modify an existing one, but I'm not entirely sure I would need that functionality anyway due to the nature of the API (no pushing data to the server, for instance). SimpleXML is certainly easier to use and I have seen people saying that for read-only situations it is all you need. Essentially the question is, what would you use? Compatibility will not be an issue as the server configuration will match the application's requirements. Is it worth building the library with PHP DOM in mind or should I stick with SimpleXML for now? Update: Here are two examples of the kind of feeds I will be dealing with: Account feed Data feed

  • C# FileStream position is off after calling ReadLine()

    - by Cristi Diaconescu
I'm trying to read a (small-ish) file in chunks of a few lines at a time, and I need to return to the beginning of particular chunks. The problem is, after the very first call to streamReader.ReadLine(); the streamReader.BaseStream.Position property is set to the end of the file! Now I assume some caching is done in the backstage, but I was expecting this property to reflect the number of bytes that I used from that file. For instance, calling ReadLine() again will (naturally) return the next line in the file, which does not start at the position previously reported by streamReader.BaseStream.Position. My question is, how can I find the actual position where the 1st line ends, so I can return there later? I can only think of manually doing the bookkeeping, by adding the lengths of the strings returned by ReadLine(), but even here there are a couple of caveats: ReadLine() strips the new-line character(s) which may have a variable length (is is '\n' ? is it "\r\n" ? etc) I'm not sure if this would work ok with variable-length characters ...so right now it seems like my only option is to rethink how I parse the file, so I don't have to rewind. If it helps, I open my file like this: using (var reader = new StreamReader( new FileStream(m_path, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.ReadWrite))) {...} Any suggestions?

  • Mutability design patterns in Objective C and C++

    - by Mac
Having recently done some development for iPhone, I've come to notice an interesting design pattern used a lot in the iPhone SDK, regarding object mutability. It seems the typical approach there is to define an immutable class NSFoo, and then derive from it a mutable descendant NSMutableFoo. Generally, the NSFoo class defines data members, getters and read-only operations, and the derived NSMutableFoo adds on setters and mutating operations. Being more familiar with C++, I couldn't help but notice that this seems to be a complete opposite to what I'd do when writing the same code in C++. While you certainly could take that approach, it seems to me that a more concise approach is to create a single Foo class, mark getters and read-only operations as const functions, and also implement the mutable operations and setters in the same class. You would then end up with a mutable class, but the types Foo const*, Foo const& etc all are effectively the immutable equivalent. I guess my question is, does my take on the situation make sense? I understand why Objective-C does things differently, but are there any advantages to the two-class approach in C++ that I've missed? Or am I missing the point entirely? Not an overly serious question - more for my own curiosity than anything else.

  • HttpURLConnection: What is the minimum best-practice implementation?

    - by stormin986
I've come across a lot of HttpURLConnection examples that are nothing more than openConnection(), getInputStream(), and then they just read the buffer and are done. It's simple but seems like it's not the best implementation ... it handles no problems. I don't yet know much about http, so I keep thinking I have everything covered until a new problem arises. I'm currently experiencing a similar problem to this one. Most times I try to read the same resource a second time (from a different HttpURLConnection object, after I .disconnect()'ed the previous one), the response code returns as -1 (but no exception is thrown!!). Before I knew to check the response code, I was baffled since I was throwing no exceptions. So, is there a minimum 'best practice' HttpURLConnection implementation? What are notable exceptions to handle? Request code checking? Any other error checks? What connection parameters do and don't need to be set (like doInput / doOutput, are these even necessary? Some examples have em, some don't). Etc. I realize this is kind of a broad question but I think it has potential to be a very useful resource if many of the common use cases and FAQs are addressed in one central place. This seems like the kind of thing a community wiki would be good for...

  • What makes static initialization functions good, bad, or otherwise?

    - by Richard Levasseur
Suppose you had code like this: _READERS = None _WRITERS = None def Init(num_readers, reader_params, num_writers, writer_params, ...args...): ...logic... _READERS = new ReaderPool(num_readers, reader_params) _WRITERS = new WriterPool(num_writers, writer_params) ...more logic... class Doer: def __init__(...args...): ... def Read(self, ...args...): c = _READERS.get() try: ...work with conn finally: _READERS.put(c) def Writer(...): ...similar to Read()... To me, this is a bad pattern to follow, some cons: Doers can be created without its preconditions being satisfied The code isn't easily testable because ConnPool can't be directly mocked out. Init has to be called right the first time. If its changed so it can be called multiple times, extra logic has to be added to check if variables are already defined, and lots of NULL values have to be passed around to skip re-initializing. In the event of threads, the above becomes more complicated by adding locking Globals aren't being used to communicate state (which isn't strictly bad, but a code smell) On the other hand, some pros: its very convenient to call Init(5, "user/pass", 2, "user/pass") It simple and "clean" Personally, I think the cons outweigh the pros, that is, testability and assured preconditions outweigh simplicity and convenience.
