• Browser freeze while ajax call in action

  I have a ASP.NET Web App. I notice that while a simple ajax call(see below) is in process, web application does not respond to any action that I try on a different browser. $.ajax({ type: "GET", async: true, url: "someurl", dataType: "text", cache: false, success: function(msg){ CheckResponse(msg); } }); This happens when I open two firefox or two IE. I run the function that does the ajax call on first browser and till the response of the ajax is returned, I cannot do anything on the second browser on the same site. No breakpoints are hit on the server from the second browser till initial ajax is completed. It hangs for any click etc.. The hang on the second browser ends immediately after the ajax call is completed on the first one. This behavior is not observed if I try the same on IE and Firefox side by side. Only happen with IE & IE or FF & FF side by side Appreciate if you can help me see what I am missing here.

  I would like to handle the Checked and Unchecked events of a Checkbox control and execute a command in my ViewModel. SetCloseTime= new RelayCommand<bool>(ExecuteSetCloseTime); The parameter in the action for the command always resolves to the previous state of the CheckBox, e.g. false when the CheckBox is checked, and true when the CheckBox is unchecked. void ExecuteSetCloseTime(bool isChecked) { if (isChecked) { // do something } } Is this expected behavior? I have a workaround where I have separate triggers (and commands) for the Checked and Unchecked and use a RelayCommand instead of RelayCommand<bool>. Each command executes correctly when the CheckBox is checked and unchecked. Feels a little dirty though - even dirtier than having UI code in my ViewModel :) Thanks

• Which single IoC/DI container would you recommend using and why?

  I'm asking this question because it's a good way to gauge how the community at large feels about the various containers/frameworks and why. Also, whilst my expertise may lie in .Net development, I am very interested in which frameworks are popular (and why) in other languages. If I feel the need to start digging into Java for instance, then I'd like to hit the ground running with good (comfortable) knowledge that I'm starting in the right direction. Does Ruby even need one with all its magnificent dynamicism? I have my own opinions on the .Net front, and will probably add my own personal favourite in an answer below, but I'm interested in all languages and opinions here. With all that in mind, could you please state only one IoC/DI framework that you use and recommend with the language of choice (Java/Ruby/.Net/Smalltalk etc.) and your reasoning for your choice, and if someone has already answered your particular flavour, then you can just vote it up and add comments to it so that anyone looking for advice in future and see which frameworks are more than likely to work for them once they read your reasoning. I'm hoping that over time, the best ones will bubble up to the top. I realise that this question doesn't have only one correct answer, so I won't be choosing one - the community will decide which framework gets the most votes and why. Of course, if you really feel strongly opposed to a particular brand, you could take the reputation hit and vote it down too, and this question can serve as a true wiki-style entry for research into this field. Remember, only one IoC per answer you write please - if you feel the need to promote two frameworks, then write two answers with your reasoning inside for each choice - then others in the community can agree or disagree with you.

• Vertically center a fluid image in a fluid container

  I certainly do not want to add to the pile of vertical alignments CSS questions, but I've spent hours trying to find a solution to no avail yet. Here's the situation: I am building a slideshow gallery of images. I want the images to be displayed as large as the user's window allows. So I have this outer placeholder: <section class="photo full"> (Yes, I'm using HTML5 elements). Which has the following CSS: section.photo.full { display:inline-block; width:100%; height:100%; position:absolute; overflow:hidden; text-align:center; } Next, the image is placed inside it. Depending on the orientation of the image, I set either the width or height to 75%, and the other axis to auto: $wide = $bigimage['width'] >= $bigimage['height'] ? true: false; ?> <img src="<?= $bigimage['url'] ?>" width="<?= $wide? "75%" : "auto"?>" height="<?= $wide? "auto" : "75%"?>"/> So, we have a fluid outer container, with inside a fluid image. The horizontal centering of the image works, yet I cannot seem to find a way to vertically center the image within it's container. I have researched centering methods but most assume either the container or image has a known width or height. Then there is the display:table-cell method, which does not seem to work for me either. I'm stuck. I'm looking for a CSS solution, but am open to js solutions too.

• ASP.NET MVC View ReRenders Part of Itself

  In all my years of .NET programming I have not run across a bug as weird as this one. I discovered the problem because some elements on the page were getting double-bound by jQuery. After some (ridiculous) debugging, I finally discovered that once the view is completely done rendering itself and all its children partial views, it goes back to an arbitrary yet consistent location and re-renders itself. I have been pulling my hair out about this for two days now and I simply cannot get it to render itself only once! For lack of any better debugging idea, I've painstakingly added logging tracers throughout the HTML just so I can pin down what may be causing this. For instance, this code ($log just logs to the console): ... <script type="text/javascript">var x = 0; $log('1');</script> <div id="new-ad-form"> <script type="text/javascript">x++;$log('1.5', x);</script> ... will yield ... <--- this happens before this snippet 1 1.5 1 ... 10 <--- bottom of my form, after snippet 1.5 2 <--- beginning of part that runs again! ... 9 <--- this happens after this snippet I've searched my codebase high and low, but there is NOTHING that says that it should re-render part of a page. I'm wondering if the jQueryUI has anything to do with it, as #new-ad-form is the container for a jQueryUI dialog box. • Maven Mojo & SCM Plugin: Check for a valid working directory

  Hi there. I'm using maven-scm-plugin from within a Mojo and am trying to figure out how to determine if a directory D is a valid working directory of an SCM URL U (i.e. a checkout of U to D already happened). The context is that I want to do a checkout of U if D is a working set or do an update if it isn't. The plan is to check out U to D if D does not exist, update D if D is a valid working directory of U, display an error if D exists and is not a valid working directory of U. What I tried is to call ScmManager.status(), ScmManager.list() and ScmManager.changelog() and try to guess something from their results. But that didn't work. The results from status and changelog always return something positive (isSuccess() = true, getChangedFiles() = valid List, no exceptions to catch), whereas list throws an exception in any case. ScmRepository and ScmFileSet don't seem to provide suitable methods as well. An option would be to always do an update if D exists but then I cannot tell if it is a working directory of U or any SCM working directory at all. The ideal solution would be independent of the actual SCM system and a specific ScmVersion. Thanks for your help! Patrick

• Facebook Connect for simple authentication?

  Hi I have an ASP.net website which I want to introduce 'Facebook Connect' functionality into, purely for account login/creation purposes. I want a user to be able to click the 'Login using Facebook' type button, and to then log that user into my website based on a userid lookup from the Facebook response. I have a couple of questions surrounding this: Presumeably I can do all of this using the Facebook API - without the need for an actual pretty public facing 'application' on Facebook? I simply want to utilise the Facebook API for authenticating an account. I'm not interested in creating some app for doing something 'within' facebook itself. I have located some code snippets online and tried using the Facebook Developer Toolkit, calling the getInfo method, and whilst it does come back to my website with a uid, none of the other user information is present within the response, like Email, Name etc. The uid is the only populated field in the response. • Linear feedback shift register?

  Lately I bumped repeatedly into the concept of LFSR, that I find quite interesting because of its links with different fields and also fascinating in itself. It took me some effort to understand, the final help was this really good page, much better than the (at first) cryptic wikipedia entry. So I wanted to write some small code for a program that worked like a LFSR. To be more precise, that somehow showed how a LFSR works. However, this is just meant to show how it circles through its possible states, in fact you noticed the register is represented by a string. Not much logical coherence. I use special codes to define inputing smileys in the text. I want to count only the length of the text ignoring special code.   I've seen several examples where Marshal.ReleaseComObject() is used with Excel Interop objects (i.e., objects from namespace Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel), but I've seen it used to various degrees. Or would it just be sent to the browser as plaintext? I was using eval() in my template class but I hate that function :P Thanks.

• Run a PHP script every second using CLI

  Hello, I have a dedicated server running Cent OS with a Parallel PLESK panel. I need to run a php script every second, that updates my database. These is no alternative way timewise, i have checked every method, it needs to be updated every second. I can find my script using the url: http://www.mysite.com/phpfile.php?key=123, and this has to be executed every second. Does anyone have any knowledge at all on doing this, i can not seem to find the answer. I heard about doing it with CLI and putty, but i have no knowledge of this at all. Or can this be done using the PLESK Panel? And can the file be executed locally every second. Like \phpfile.php If someone helps me on answering these question i would really appreciate it. Regards EDIT It has been a few months since i added this question. My cronjob is set to every minute. I have been running this for some time now in a test environment, and this works out great. It works really supperfast, and i see no increase in CPU nor Memory usage.

• Cascading input control is empty while accessing a Jasper Report

  I call a jasper report through an independent URL through which I pass one of the input controls needed to run the report. E.g. http:// localhost:8080/jasperserver/flow.html?_flowId=viewReportFlow&standAlone=true&reportUnit=xyz&ParentFolderUri=abcd&j_username=xyz&j_password=xyz&parameter1=value1& . . . As you can see in the URL, I pass the JasperServer username and password, reportUnit name and location and other mandatory parameters, along with the report input parameter, i.e., "parameter1" which can have a value like "value1". I used a mandatory, read-only and visible input control for this input value. Its value would come from the URL, showed in the box but was read-only and hence could not be changed. The report was working absolutely fine upto this point. But the tragedy began when my client rejected this idea. He wanted a completely invisible input control to my report and the input value would be passed through the URL, just like illustrated above. And then my client asked me to refer to this and made me work on cascading input controls. Recently I added a cascading input control to this report. The input control type is a single select query, which utilizes two parameters that I pass to the report through the URL. Now when the Jasper server responds to the URL with the input parameters, all the other static parameters work properly, except for the cascaded one. When I click the select box of the cascaded input, I can see the desired options for a second, and then, it just goes empty while I'm viewing the select list. But when I make the "Parameter1" input control visible, the cascading input control works! And then I turn in invisible, the cascading input control turns into a beast that does things by itself and not listen to his master. I am not able to understand why this is happening. Could anybody please provide me a solution to this?

• Facebook og:url ignored in favour of a Facebook hosted page about the og entity

  I am trying to implement the Like button on my pages. Those pages represent the review page for a product. When a user Likes the page, it shows up in Facebook (not as a link, but as liking an entity), however when you click on the entity in Facebook it links through to a facebook.com hosted page representing the page. I want the user to be redirected to the og:url page? This happens for example when you Like an artist page on Grroveshar: http://grooveshark.com/#!/artist/Elbow/4795 I am clearly "doing it wrong". I am using the following markup to include the SDK. • Email not sent until application closes

  I have an application that uses SmtpClient to send E-Mail, but the E-Mails are not sent until the application closes. I have searched and searched to find a solution to the problem, but I am not able to find one. The system does have Symantec anti-virus installed, which could possibly be the problem. Does anybody have a solution to this problem? • How can I programatically create this custom binding?

  We've got to access a web service that uses soap11... no problem I'll just set the binding as: BasicHttpBinding wsBinding = new BasicHttpBinding(BasicHttpSecurityMode.TransportWithMessageCredential); Nope. No dice. So I asked the host of the service why we're having authentication issues and he said that our config needed to have this custom binding: <bindings> <customBinding> <binding name="lbinding"> <security authenticationMode="UserNameOverTransport" messageSecurityVersion="WSSecurity11WSTrustFebruary2005WSSecureConversationFebruary2005WSSecurityPolicy11" securityHeaderLayout="Strict" includeTimestamp="false" requireDerivedKeys="true" keyEntropyMode="ServerEntropy"> </security> <textMessageEncoding messageVersion="Soap11" /> <httpsTransport authenticationScheme ="Negotiate" requireClientCertificate ="false" realm =""/> </binding> </customBinding> </bindings> Only problem is we're creating our binding programmatically not via the config. So if someone could point me in the right direction in regards to changing my BasicHttpBinding into a custombinding that conforms to the .config value provided I'll give them a big shiny gold star for the day.

• miglayout: can't get right-alignment to work

  Something's not right here. I'm trying to get the rightmost button (labeled "help" in the example below) to be right-aligned to the JFrame, and the huge buttons to have their width tied to the JFrame but be at least 180px each. I got the huge button constraint to work, but not the right alignment. I thought the right alignment was accomplished by gapbefore push (as in this other SO question), but I can't figure it out. • MS Access 2003 - Save button enabling on form open on different tabs

  I have a tab control on a form, and a couple different tabs have save buttons on them. • jQuery UI slider coming out looking wierd

• Reference 3.5 assembly from 4.0 winforms phail

  So I have this utility library that is compiled as a dll under .net 3.5 and it is used by my asp.net 3.5 website. I created a .net 4.0 winforms app to push data onto the website. I want to make use of the functionality in the utilities library from this winforms app. The problem lies in that when I make reference to the utilities library and use the code in it intellisense barks at me saying that it can't find the objects in that library. The thing is I would switch the winforms app to 3.5 which fixes the problem, but I am using Tasks which require 4.0. And because my website and utilities library both run 3.5 and my website is hosted at godaddy that currently only supports asp.net 3.5 so compiling my utilities library under 4.0 for my winforms app is not going to work because it breaks my website. I have tried the app.config trick ala useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true" ... But that did not help. Obviously I could start a new utilities project for 4.0 and and copy the code files from the existing utilities library then reference the new 4.0 utilities library in my winforms app but, that strikes me as being rather overkill when all I want to do is reference the library and use it's functionality. Not to mention that I would have two utility libraries both containing the exact same code, and if I update the code in one I will need to make sure that the other is also updated. I could use add file as link, but you get the idea. So is there anything else I could try or any other way to solve or get around this? Or am I just going to have to break down and create a identical clone of the utilities library for 4.0.
