I will endeavor to showcase an episode highlighting business use cases and how technology plays a role in business on a bi-weekly basis. The debut episode highlights the benefits of user experience capabilities supplied by Portal technologies, by juxtaposing the communities of Middleware Fields and Codeaway Valley with regard to the time and effort their residents spend performing everyday tasks.  This comparison provides insight into the benefits of leveraging a common user experience foundation to support the tasks that our employees, customers and partners engage in on a daily basis with our organizations. DevOps is a response to the interdependence of software development and IT operations. It aims to help an organization rapidly produce software products and services. That definition of DevOps is the – what. The “why” is even easier. Standardized development methodology, clear communication and documented processes supported by a standards-based, proven middleware platform improves application development and management cycles, brings agility and provides greater availability and security to your IT infrastructure. Clearly, DevOps is about connecting people, products and processes. Ultimately, DevOps is about connecting IT to business. • Upcoming Carbon Tax in South Africa

    - by Evelyn Neumayr
    By Elena Avesani, Principal Product Strategy Manager, Oracle In 2012, the South Africa National Treasury announced the plan to impose a carbon tax to cut carbon emissions that are blamed for climate change. South Africa is ranked among the top 20 countries measured by absolute carbon dioxide emissions, with emissions per capita in the region of 10 metric tons per annum and over 90% of South Africa's energy produced by burning fossil fuels. The top 40 largest companies in the country are responsible for 207 million tons of carbon dioxide, directly emitting 20 percent of South Africa’s carbon output. The legislation, originally scheduled to be implemented from January 2015 to 31 December 2019, is now delayed to January 2016. It will levy a carbon tax of R120 (US$11) per ton of CO2, rising then by 10 percent a year until 2020, while all sectors bar electricity will be able to claim additional relief of at least 10 percent. The South African treasury proposed a 60 percent tax-free threshold on emissions for all sectors, including electricity, petroleum, iron, steel and aluminum. Oracle Environmental Accounting and Reporting (EA&R) supports these needs and guarantees consistency across organizations in how data is collected, retained, controlled, consolidated and used in calculating and reporting emissions inventory. EA&R also enables companies to develop an enterprise-wide data view that includes all 5 of the key sustainability categories: carbon emissions, energy, water, materials and waste. Thanks to its native integration with Oracle E-Business Suite and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ERP Financials and Inventory Systems and the capability of capturing environmental data across business silos, Oracle Environmental Accounting and Reporting is uniquely positioned to support a strategic approach to carbon management that drives business value. Just 5 months ago we had a guest post on “Machine to Machine – The Internet of Things – It’s about the Data.” Now companies are extending the use of M2M data to increase opportunity and intelligence across the Enterprise. Just this week, Oracle announced the results of its “Designing an M2M Platform for the Connected World” research, examining the evolving drivers behind ‘Machine to Machine’ (M2M) projects and how those changes are impacting solution requirements. She talks about installers now being standardized in Oracle for greater consistency -- no more WebLogic native installers. Also, JDK is no longer a part of the WebLogic install. The various installers she discusses include OUI, ZIP, OEPE, Coherence and more. Monica then takes us through a step by step install process. After the install process is complete the video takes us through the configuration wizard. The ZIP installer is then discussed and its effectiveness, such as it being the smallest downloadable option, easy, and very popular with our customers and limitations (such as for development only and not to be used in production) highlighted. Monica then takes us through the configuration wizard, its usage, and when to use WLST scripts. The video then discusses NodeManager and its usage and discusses how to reconfigure a WebLogic domain on upgrade – through our GUI tools or through command line interface. Lastly, it highlights Opatch – a patch application tool used by our customers and standardized across all Oracle products. Really detailed video. • Setting Background of a Jbutton

    - by mithun1538
    Hello there, I have 5 JButtons: b1, b2, b3, b4, b5. By default, their color is gray. When I click on any button, the background of that button changes to white. When I click another button, I want that previous clicked button to change its background to gray, and this newly clicked button to change its background to white. Here is the code that I wrote: int liveButton = 0; //holds the value of the button that is last clicked. //0 indicates no button clicked (in the beginning) private void ChangeInUsersList(int clickedButton) { switch(liveButton) { case 1 : b1.setBackground(Color.GRAY); break; case 2 : b2.setBackground(Color.GRAY); break; case 3 : b3.setBackground(Color.GRAY); break; case 4 : b4.setBackground(Color.GRAY); break; case 5 : b5.setBackground(Color.GRAY); break; default: System.out.println("No button to change"); } liveButton = clickedButton;// store the clicked button to change its //background later } private void b1ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { ChangeInUsersList(1); b1.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,255,255)); } private void b2ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { ChangeInUsersList(2); b2.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,255,255)); } private void b3ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { ChangeInUsersList(3); b3.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,255,255)); } private void b4ActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { ChangeInUsersList(4); b4.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,255,255)); } private void b5ButtonActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) { ChangeInUsersList(5); b5.setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255,255,255)); } However, its not working as expected. When i click on a button, its background does change to white. However, if i click on some other button after that, the former button's background doesnt change to grey. I tried replacing Color.GREY with new java.awt.Color(236,233,216) - the rgb for grey but it still doesnt work.

  • Photoshop script to get the color of a solid fill layer?

    - by gruner
    I'm trying to write a Photoshop jsx script for extracting color values from a PSD template. The colors are defined as separate fill layers that I'd like to be able to loop through and create a hash of {layer_name: #hex_color} values. I'm not finding any documentation on reading the color value of the fill layer.

  • How should I use color in my application? Single, Theme, or Chaos?

    - by CodeSlave
    How should I be using color in my application? I have over a 100 different forms (windows) in my application, and the default windows grey seems like a bad choice to me. One school of thought says pick one neutral color, and use the same one everywhere. Another school of thought says pick a set of neutral colors, and use them same ones within a group of form (e.g., shipping screens might be light green, receiving screens light orange, user administration screens light blue, etc.). The final school of thought says make every form different. We've got millions of colors, why not use them? What should I do and why?

  • In MS Access form, how to color background of selected record?

    - by PowerUser
    I have a somewhat complicated looking Access Form with a continuous display (meaning multiple records are shown at once). I'd like to change the background color of the selected record only so the end-user can easily tell which record they are on. I'm thinking of perhaps a conditional format or maybe something like this: Private Sub Detail_HasFocus() Detail.BackColor(me.color)=vbBlue End Sub and something similar for when that row loses focus. This code snippet obviously won't work, but it's the kind of code I'd like to achieve.

  • jQuery noob: change border color of element on hover of another element.

    - by Kyle Sevenoaks
    I'd try to explain what I mean, but there is an easier way: click here for jsfiddle example. Basically I want the border color of the div rfrsh_btn to change when productOptionsMenu is hovered over. I'm using jQuery with the .noConflict var because this site also uses Prototype. jQuery: var $j = jQuery.noConflict(); $j(".productOptionsMenu").hover( function () { $j(#rfrsh_btn).css({"border-color":"#85c222"}); }; ); Thanks :)

SetBackgroundColor seems to be the only method available for such things. Please refer to my screen shot [random setBackgroundColor:[UIColor blueColor]]; [random.titleLabel setBackgroundColor:[UIColor blueColor]];
