• centralizing background image, using css

  Hello, I want to centralize a background image. There is no div used, this is the css style body{ background-position:center; background-image:url(../images/images2.jpg) no-repeat; } The above CSS tiles all over and does centralize it, but half the image is not seen, it just kind of moves up. What I want to do is centralize the image. Could I adopt the image to view even on a 21". Appreciate help. Thanks Jean

• I'm using the jQuery .scroll() function, why can't I override its effects with another function?

  I'm using the jQuery .scroll() function to make a certain element fade to 0.2 opacity. Since there is no native "scrollstop" indicator, I decided to make the element fade back to 1.0 opacity on hover. However, it doesn't work. Here's my code: $(document).ready(function() { $(window).scroll(function() { $("#navlist").animate({ opacity: 0.2 }, 2000); }); $("#navlist").hover( function() { $(this).animate({ opacity: 1 }, 500); }, function() { $(this).animate({ opacity: 1 }, 500); // just to be safe? } ); }); When I scroll, the #navlist element fades, but when you hover over it nothing happens. But if you refresh the page when you're half way down, the element automatically fades as soon as you refresh, before I've scrolled, and if you try to hover to fade it back in, nothing happens. Any thoughts?

• Can I write functors using a private nested struct?

  Given this class: class C { private: struct Foo { int key1, key2, value; }; std::vector<Foo> fooList; }; The idea here is that fooList can be indexed by either key1 or key2 of the Foo struct. I'm trying to write functors to pass to std::find so I can look up items in fooList by each key. But I can't get them to compile because Foo is private within the class (it's not part of C's interface). Is there a way to do this without exposing Foo to the rest of the world? (note: I've got to run to a meeting. I'll be able to post more sample code in about a half hour.)

• How do I crash the App Pool?

  Our ASP.NET 2 web application handles exceptions very elegantly. We catch exceptions in Global ASAX in Application_Error. From there we log the exception and we show a friendly message to the user. However, this morning we deployed the latest version of our site. It ran ok for half an hour, but then the App Pool crashed. The site did not come back up until we restored the previous release. How can I make the app pool crash and skip the normal exception handler? I'm trying to replicate this problem, but with no luck so far. Update: we found the solution. One of our pages was screenscraping another page. But the URL was configured incorrectly and the page ended up screenscraping itself infinitely, thus causing a stack overflow exception.

What are you going to do? {favourite editor} and Grep will get you started on your spelunking through the gnarling guts of the code base but what other tools should be in the maintenance engineers toolbox? To start the ball-rolling; I don't think I could live without source-insight for C/C++ spelunking. (DISCLAIMER: I don't work for 'em).

• Crystal Reports - Facilitating front/back printing

  I have a crystal report that is designed to spit out a bunch of reports. Each report is 2 to 7 pages in length. We would like to print on the front and back of pages. However, if we did this now... approximately half of the following reports would print on the back of the last past of the preceding report. Is there a good method for detecting whether an extra page break should be inserted, and if so, actually inserting it, so that when we print the 150 pages front/back that now one piece of paper actually holds data from separate reports?   I'm using OpenGL to render a game view in my android application. The game is turn based and I wish to add some buttons to the interface. I'd prefer to use standard Android widgets, structured in an XML-generated layout (or, if I have to, a hardcoded layout) and put the OpenGL view in its own window as part of that layout. So in regards to this, I have 3 questions: 1: Is such a thing possible? I've done a few half-hearted tries, but have had no luck so far. 2: Is such a thing advisable? Does it carry a significant performance penalty, for example, over using OpenGL-based homebrew widgetry? 3: Is it possible to pass particular arguments to instances created in XML layouts? For example, my current OpenGL view has three arguments in its constructor; is it somehow possible for me to invoke that particular constructor with particular parameters when it's part of a layout?

  Above is how my report looks, the part in yellow in hidden, and is only shown when the user clicks the + icon on the [name]. the result is basically the percentage difference from the Past [X] - [TERM] i.e there is a dropdown with, [weeks, months, days, hours] and a textbox of qty. so choosing qty = 4 and term = weeks will delivery a result set spread over 4 weeks based on the parent result sets date range and name ID I wish to populate here the number of rows, dependant on the value set by the user and the data will be from a dataset. Is it possible to dynamically add more sub rows ( like on row data bound ) if my first row is ID 123 [name], is it possible to send this value [123] to a dataset in order that all subrows are only relevant to the name with ID of 123? this is my first bash at SSRS so please no half cut answers, that just lead to more questions about the answer given :-) if this makes sense. For example, a valid output of my desired function would be > awesome.uniqueified [1] "a" "b" "c" "d.1" "d.2" "e" "f.1" "f.2" Is there an easy, R-thonic and beautiful way to do this? I should say my list in real life (it's not called awesome) contains 25000ish mircoarray probeset identifiers. I'm always nervous when I embark on writing little generic functions (which I'm sure I could do) as I'm sure some R guru has come across this problem in the past, nailed it with some incredible algorithm that doesn't even have to store more than half an element in the vector. I'm just not sure what they might have called it. Probably not uniqueify.

I've tried this one, but it always shows zero on my emulator: DisplayMetrics dm = new DisplayMetrics(); int width = dm.widthPixels / 2; In my case I want to dynamically create a table with tableRows, each containing two cols. • Why does placing this html within form tags change the layout?

  I'm using this free Web Template - EliteCircle and have just incorporated it into a master page. The master page wraps the html in: <form id="form1" runat="server"> //master page html </form> The template almost comes out fine except the entire page is surrounded by a think white border (default CSS behavior for form?) and the footer background is half white on the very bottom. I wouldn't expect the form with id=form1 to change anything in the layout. There is nothing in the [CSS][2] with that id. When I remove the form tags from the master page (just to check) the layout is perfect, no problems. Any ideas? • Using sessions & session variables in a PHP Login Script

  I have just finished creating an entire login and register systsem in PHP, but my problem is I haven't used any sessions yet. (Like, there's not the word "session" in the entire script). I'm kind of a newbie in PHP and I've never used sessions before. What I want to do it, after the user registers and fills out the login form, they will still stay on the same page. So, like one half of the page will be if the session is logged_in and the other part will be else (the user is not logged in so display the login form). • Fastest way to find the rotation of a vector

  I have two 2D vectors, say u and v, defined by cartesian coordinates. Imagine that vectors are needles of a clock. I'm looking for the fastest way to find out, using python, if v is after or before u (or in other words find out in wich half plane is v, regarding to position of u). For the purpose of the problem if vectors are aligned answer should be before. It seems easy using some trigonometry, but I believe there should be a faster way using coordinates only. My home page and everything else gets shifted down to make room for Info page. • EnumJobs not returning Copies & Total Pages

  I'm using Windows API's EnumJobs to find the PageCount and Copies of a print job, but I found that these fields are almost always zero when called on a print server. Although it could be my timing is out, because the number of pages increment as the job prints and once it's done the print job cannot be accessed. So there is about half a nanosecond when the values in EnumJobs is correct before it dissapears. I've been scouring the web but can't find any help on this, just other people with similar problems. Anybody with experience with EnumJobs or can suggest other means of determining the total number of pages printed?

• How can I view javadocs that have been added to a maven repository?

  I know I can use maven to pull the javadocs for an artifact (if they've been added), which should come through as a JAR (right?), which I can then unpack and browse. My problem is, I'm trying to figure out which of a series of artifacts have the particular package I'm hunting for. I could download a half-dozen javadoc packages, unpack all of them, then open the index files one at a time, but that sounds like it would be pretty unpleasant. There must be a better way! I noticed that Nexus supports javadoc artifact browsing, but apparently only in the Pro version (which we do not have, and are unlikely to get any time soon). I'd prefer a GUI solution, though I'd settle for a command line answer, provided it's something along the lines of showmethedocs groupId:artifactId [version].

• how to debug a query that has valid syntax, executes, but returns no results?

  So I'm writing a fairly involved query with a half dozen joins, a dependent subquery for [greatest-n-per-group] purposes, grouping, etc. It is syntactically valid, but I've clearly made at least one mistake because it returns nothing. In the past I've debugged valid queries that return nothing by removing joins, executing subqueries on their own, removing WHERE conditions, and removing grouping to see what I would get but so far this one has me stumped. Are there better tools or techniques to use for this sort of thing? This particular query is for MySQL if it matters for any platform-specific tools.

• CakePHP: How can I disable auto-increment on Model.id?

  CakePHP 1.3.0, mysqli I have a model, Manifest, whose ID should be the unique number from a printed form. However, with Manifest.id set as the primary key, CakePHP is helping me by setting up auto-increment on the field. Is there a way to flag the field via schema.php and/or elsewhere to disable auto-increment? I need just a plain, old primary key without it. The only other solution I can imagine is adding on a separate manifest number field and changing foreign keys in a half dozen other tables. A bit wasteful and not as intuitive.

No matter what i put in that width attribute, i get the same size width tooltip which is about half of the width that i need. the height is perfectly fine. any ideas? is this a bug in the product ?

  I want to be able to apply opacity to some elements to make them invisible only if javascript is enabled. I don't want to use display:none because I want the layout to act as if they're in the DOM, so setting opacity to 0 is perfect. I want to be able to set this initial value using Javascript, using JQuery, so I don't have to mess with browser differences on the opacity (and many other) attributes. But if I set opacity to 0 like so: $(document).ready(function() { $("#header").css("opacity", 0); $("#header").animate({opacity:1}, 500); }); ...half the time it's already visible on the screen, so it appears and disappears. How do I set these css values using JQuery before they ever can render?

For example a given piece of work might need say 1/3 of the sprint to design the object model around an existing implementation. Under this scenario you might well end up with implemented code, say half way through the sprint, without any tests (implementing unit tests during this "design" stage would add significant effort and the tests would likely be thrown away a few times until the final "design" is settled upon). You might then spend a day or two in the second week adding in unit / integration tests after the fact. Is this acceptable?

  Usually, when a View requires a lot of bindings, or some UI Elements like a Bing Map, it takes a "while" to load (like between half a second and a second). I don't want a delay between a "tap" action (like tapping an element on a ListBox) and the navigation action (displaying a new page). I don't mind displaying the page progressively. For example, for a Bing Map, I don't mind displaying a black page with only a title, and a second later, having the Map appear. What are the best practices ?   Hi, I think this would be simple question and should be asked in the pas few years but unable to google around and dont know if there is a specific keyword. In c# WinForm I want to do drag and drop but I dont want the image of DragDropEffects Move, Copy or whatever. I want to display an image with half opaque. Just like Firefox when dragging an image, you would see the image folowing the mouse pointer like a ghost :) I already Implement DoDragDrop, DragEnter and DragDrop events. I just want to customize the dragging effects with overlay image.
