• Java Swing app hangs when run in normal mode but runs fine in debug mode

  I am writing a basic Java application with a Swing front-end. Basically it loads some data from a Derby database via Apache Cayenne and then displays it in a JTable. I'm doing my development in Eclipse and I don't think it's important but I'm using Maven for dependencies. Now this works fine when I run using Debug but it seems to hang the display thread when I use the Run button. I've done a thread dump and I'm not 100% certain but everything looks good. I used Java VisualVM and the threads look fine there as well. Strangely it seems to work intermittently. It's pretty consistent though and easy to reproduce. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all out of them.

• Getting Clipboard data in raw format in c++

  I've been playing around with the windows clipboard. I noticed that you can only view the clipboard if you supply a format. I've seen programs that can dump the raw contents of the clipboard. Look at http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/misc/Clipboard.htm#ClipboardAll for an example of what I mean. Is there a way to do something similar, what I want to do is be able to back up the clipboard, manipulate it, then restore it when my program is done. I'm looking for a non-.net solution if that's actually a thing

• Tab widget example not running

  I'm trying to reproduce the tabwidget example (http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-tabwidget.html). I'm not really sure what's the problem, I got no errors while compiling, but i cannot see the application on the emulators screen. It would be excellent if maybe anyone could have a look at my classes and tell me what's my mistake? Activity monitor gives me a mysqld process running by me, and everytime i KILL the process both via Activity Monitor and via kill =9 pid it starts right back up.. Sampling the process points back to the MAMP mysqld.. wtf?! About to throw MAMP out the window and boot up a VM of CentOS =)

• How can I drop a table if it exists in SQL Server 2000?

  I have a DTS package that drops a table then creates it and populates it but sometimes something happens and the package fails after the drop table. If it's rerun it fails cuz the table hasn't been created yet. Is there something like "if exists" for SQLServer 2000 like in MySQL? thanks. Edit Thanks everyone! I went with TrickyNixon because his was quick and easier to initiate. But, I would like everyone to eval that statement and make sure it is best-practices because if it is, I'm TOTALLY going to dump that into EVERY drop/create DTS package I see!!! • Classic ASP and MVC side-by-side, different projects?

  I've tried asking this in a few different ways, but let's give it another shot (as I've yet to receive an answer and this is driving me nuts!) I have a very large classic ASP 3.0 application (~350K lines) that I want to start migrating to ASP.NET MVC. I'd like to keep the old ASP files in a separate project from the MVC stuff. Ideas on how to debug these? Should I just dump the files in the same folder and create two different projects ( a WAP and an MVC app) that reference the relevant files and folders required by each? This should work, but does anyone have a better idea? I need the ability to migrate small parts of the application individually as this will probably take a year or two to complete.

  My production database is several GB's uncompressed and it's getting to be a pain to download and run locally when trying to reproduce a bug or test a feature with real data. I would like to be able to select the specific records that interest me, then have the library figure out what other records are necessary to produce a dataset that respects the databases integrity constraints and finally print it out as a list of insert statements or dump that I can restore. For example: given Author, Blog and Comment tables when I select comments posted after a certain date I should get inserts for the Blog records the comments have foreign keys to and the Author records those Blogs have foreign keys to.

• Need to read .symtab

  I am frustrated. I have a simple doubt .. I compile a simple program with gcc and if I see the section header using objdump, it does not show the section ".symtab". for the same a.out file, readelf shows the section. see the below snip - [25] .symtab SYMTAB 00000000 000ca4 000480 10 26 2c 4 [26] .strtab STRTAB 00000000 001124 00025c 00 0 0 1 Why ? In the default linker script I don't find a definition for .symtab section. If I add a definition by myself like in the linker script : .... PROVIDE(__start_sym) .symtab : { *(.symtab)} PROVIDE(__end_sym) .... the difference b/w the addresses of __start_sym and __end_sym is zero, which means no such section is added in the output file. But the readelf is able to read the section and dump the contents of this section .. How ? why ?

• How can I use Perl to grab text from a web page that is dynamically generated with JavaScript?

  There is a website I am trying to pull information from in Perl, however the section of the page I need is being generated using javascript so all you see in the source is: <div id="results"></div> I need to somehow pull out the contents of that div and save it to a file using Perl/proxies/whatever. e.g. the information I want to save would be document.getElementById('results').innerHTML; I am not sure if this is possible or if anyone had any ideas or a way to do this. I was using a lynx source dump for other pages but since I cant straight forward screen scrape this page I came here to ask about it! I currently have in Cocoa the ability to traverse these nodes, but I'm at a loss at how I can access the data in the MOVIE NSXMLNodes. Is there a way I can dump all of the values from each NSXMLNode into a Hashtable and retrieve values that way? Am using NSXMLDocument and NSXMLNodes.

  The problem is that I want to output Mathematica compatible floating point numbers. The only difference with the standard IOStream or printf output format is that the exponential e is replaced by *^: Standard C/C++ output format: 1.23e-4 Mathematica format: 1.23*^-4 Is there a way to manipulate streams to achieve this effect? My original idea was just to use istringstream and dump it to a string and then replace all the e's. I would also be okay if someone posted code to parse through the bits of the floating point number and output it directly (i.e. a printf("%e") replacement).

• Object reference not set to an instance of an object - how to find the offending object name in the

  This is the bane of my programming existence. After deploying an application, when this error crops up, no amount of debug dump tells you WHAT object was not instantiated. I have the call stack, that's great, it tells me roughly where the object is, but is there any way to get .NET to tell me the actual name of the object? If you catch them while debugging, of course the program breaks right on the offending creature, but if it happens after the program is in the wild, good luck. There has to be a way. I've explored the exceptions returned in these instances and there is just nothing helpful.

Are they loaded simpily by recognize the 0x0000 separator or these is a string offset table elsewhere in the binary pointing to separate NSString objects? Thanks. (What I really want to do is the increase the length of one of the NSString, so I have to know how the loader recognize these separate objects)

• Saving an IP adddress to DB

  I want to save a user's IP address to my database just in case any legal issues come up and we need to track down who performed what action. Since I highly doubt I will ever actually need to use this data (well, maybe for counting unique hits or something) do you think I can just dump the REMOTE_ADDR into a field? If so, what should the length of that field be? 39 chars should fit an IPv6 address, no? I don't know if I'll ever get any of those, but just in case...

• jQuery .getJSON() Not Parsing All Objects

  I'm using jQuery's .getJSON function to parse a set of search results from a Google Search Appliance. The search appliance has an xslt stylesheet that returns the results as JSON data, which I validated with both JSONLint and Curious Concept's JSON Formatter. According to FireBug, the full result set is returned from the XMLHTTPRequest, but I tried dumping the data (with jquery.dump.js) and it only ever parses back the first result. It does successfully get all the Google Search Protocol stuff, but it only ever sees one "R" object (or individual result). Has anybody had a similar problem with jQuery's .getJSON? I know it likes to fail silently if the JSON is not valid, but like I said, I validated the results with several validators and it should be good to go. Edit: Clicking this link will show you the JSON results returned for a search for the word "google": http://bigbird.uww.edu/search?client=json_frontend&proxystylesheet=json_frontend&proxyrefresh=1&output=xml_no_dtd&q=google jQuery only retrieves the first "R" object, even though all "R" objects are siblings.

  GDB's disassemble command is nice for short C identifiers, e.g. main. For long, mangled C++ identifiers the verbosity is overkill. • Best practice to send secure information over e-mail?

  I have to send sensitive information (name, address, social security number etc.) collected from a website, that has been entered by a user, to an e-mail address. What is the best course of action to make the information secure and easy to extract on the receiver side? Edit: I will be using ASP.NET for the website, not sure what it has for capabilities on this matter. Edit: If I decide to store the information in a database and just send a mail when a new entry has been made, would this be better? And create some secure way to dump the information instead.

I edited database.yml with proper info and did the rake db:migrate command which didn't return any errors and did migrate the db inside schema.rb. • Copying a mysql database from localhost to remote server using mysqldump.exe

  I want to copy a mysql database from my local computer to a remote server. I am trying to use the mysql dump command. All the examples on the internet suggest doing something like The initial mysql> is just the prompt I get after logging in. mysql> mysqldump -u user -p pass myDBName | NewDBName.out; But when I do this I get You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds ... to use near 'mysqldump -u user -p pass myDBName | NewDBName.out' Since I have already logged in do I need to use -u and -p? Not doing so gives me the same error. Can you see what is wrong?
