• how to make new window always raise-up?

  I got an issue of Ubuntu 13.10, the new created window does not always raise-up to the front. It is annoying, which makes me have to click the icons on unity launcher to focus on the new window. Furthermore, if I turn on a program which has already been opened, the system does not bring me to the program, only blinks its icon on the unity launcher. Again, I need to click the icon to get focus on the window. Seems the system does not smart enough to determine which window should be focused to. I'm pretty sure it did not happen in previous versions of Ubuntu. Any idea how to fix it?

• I'm the .1x programmer at my company. How can I best contribute?

  I work at a newly-minted startup of five people. We have a Ph. D in machine learning, a former member of the RSpec core team, and the guy who compiles the Git binary for OS X. That's just the employees; the founder has a Ph. D and was CTO for a multi-billion-dollar corporation before leaving to start a (successful) startup, and has now left that to start this one. We also might get a guy with a Ph. D in math. Aaaaaaaaand then there's me, college-dropout intern. I think I'm pretty smart and I'm reading non-stop, but the delta of experience, skill, and knowledge between me and my co-workers is just breathtaking. So put yourself in their shoes: you've got a bright young intern who has a lot to learn but is at least energetic. What would be annoying? What use would you hope to get out of him in the here and now? What would be pleasantly surprising if it happened?

  I am currently planning to buy a hardware-raid controller. This became necessary since I am running Linux and Windows in parallel and now need the redundancy for both OS (Im am going to use RAID1 / Mirroring). Therefore I am searching for a hardware raid controller which is well supported by linux / ubuntu (reporting smart values, stats for the harddrives, etc...). This controller should have four sata ports and if possible it should fit in a PCIE-1x Slot. I would greatly appreciate, if you could suggest some devices. Thanks in advance

  Quick Background Since learning basic html 5 years ago, I've become completely obsessed with the technology, the logic, and the thrill of solving problems involved with building websites. I am still stuck at a thoroughly non-programming type job, but would really like to move into the field of web programming/design. I have no educational background in the field (was trained as a fine artist and tutor), but in the past few years have progressed fully self-taught (and self-motivated) from html to css to php, mysql, jquery, and am now building rich web applications. The Question How can I prove to a company that even though I have no education, I have a passion to learn whatever is thrown my way? ...That essentially I would come at every issue with not only knowledge, but with a passionate desire to solve it, whether that means tackling a new language or debugging code for hours at a time? p.s. • Sometimes new windows don't come to the front when launched

  I'm using gnome shell with new ubuntu for few days now and have experienced really annoying behaviour with new windows. Sometimes when I use another window and press e.g. Alt Ctrl T to open new terminal window, I don't get this window being brought to front. Instead I get notification at the bottom that "New terminal window is ready to use". The same is with Pidgin being integrated with gnome shell (via extension). Every time I get new message, window pops up but doesn't show. I need to either Alt Tab it or click the notification. Is there any way to have new windows being always brought to front, and remove those annoying "Window is ready" notifications?   Is there any smart way to think about polygon budget relating to PC gaming today? My game will have one static 3d background scene and two fighters. No more enemies. I am thinking about having animated 3d models in the background for atmosphere, like spectators.   Over the last year or so I've been visiting customers who have had Exadata deployed and have been enjoying the benefits the platform has been providing. Benefits include greater performance, consolidating multiple databases, data compression and time to value improvements. Most often I hear my reports run faster. One hospitality company report times that used to take 3 hrs now run in 12 seconds. Another services company reported all their batch reports taking 11hrs now run in 38 mins. Also reported that their transactions post faster, and batch updates run faster. So what does that mean? For most of them it means that now they have a platform that can handle growth. Most are growing 15% organically, but I've also seen 40% growth thru acquisition. Exadata has been keeping up with the additional data demand by customers leveraging compression and the smart storage features.

• AdSense link units targeting better keywords?

  I have one link unit above my navigation which targets exact keywords on what my site is about, on contrary my AdSense for content Leaderboard and Wide Skyscraper show ads that are totally opposite from my keyword, while my ctr increased for about 10 times with link unit I noticed CPC is lower also (but that was just based on one day, today is higher). Is it so bad to completely get rid of standard content ads and put link units, because this way I earn so little for that site but I think that is because smart pricing (accidental clicks on ads that my users are not interested)? I earn in whole day with about 25-35 clicks as much as keyword tool shows for only one click, my site is first for the topic? I really don't know what to do. Has anyone had similar situation or can give some advice?

• Should I add rel nofollow to internal links which already have meta noindex?

  Let's say I have a products page with listing producsts and the page has pagination. I would like the 1st page to have all the SE ranking weight so I decided to put meta noindex on the rest of the paginated pages (from page 2 to N). My common sense says that if I don't want pages to not get indexed, I shouldn't also pass link/PR juice to these pages. (Is that smart?) What happens if I set rel="nofollow" for all pagination links from page 2 to page N?

• Internet connection crashes while wifi / lan stay connected

  I am connected to a router by wifi or lan. But every few moments (sometimes seconds, sometimes half an hour) my connection to the internet breaks down. So in one moment I can surf with my firefox and have ping times of 20 ms (wifi) to the google server. And in the next moment I can't open any pages in any browser and the ping shows no new messages first and then "Destination Host Unreachable". This is especially odd as another computer or my smart phone stays connected at the same time to the same network and seems to notice nothing. So I have a problem independend of wifi or lan drivers but with something else. Where should I look for logs that could tell me more information? I can't find some in syslog. Just if I reconnect to the router (wich works for another few moments) there are a lot of informations. But everythin is okay then.

• Space in img:s "ALT" attribute good/bad for search engines?

  I am trying to make it easier for search engines to crawl my website, as it is almost 100% dynamic. I have a couple of transparent images which are actually links to sections of my page. I wonder, if I add an "alt" attribute containing space characters to explain the target, will this improve SE rankings etc? For example: <img src="blabla.png" alt="post new classified"> Or will this just result in errors? Ànd, what should I put in the alt attribute if I can't use space? PS: Another different and short question, will javascript-rich content make a page less important to crawlers? Thanks
