• Problem with tomcat and getLocalHost exception

  I'm running a Linux server named S1 in a "cloud" server, and when tomcat 6.0.24 starts, I get the exception: org.apache.catalina.connector.Connector pause SEVERE: Protocol handler pause failed java.net.UnknownHostException: S1: S1 at java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost(InetAddress.java:1353) at org.apache.jk.common.ChannelSocket.unLockSocket(ChannelSocket.java:485) Which then leads to: ERROR ehcache.Cache - Unable to set localhost. This prevents creation of a GUID. Cause was: Sjira1: S1 java.net.UnknownHostException: S1: S1 at java.net.InetAddress.getLocalHost(InetAddress.java:1353) at net.sf.ehcache.Cache.<clinit>(Cache.java:143) My hosts file is: 127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain (valid-ip-address) S1 S1.(valid domain name) ping S1 and S1.(valid domain name) return valid ip address nslookup S1.(valid domain name) returns valid ip address nslookup S1 throws ** server can't find S1: NXDOMAIN Any ideas about how to fix this ? • Edirol UA-25 driver on Windows 8 Preview

  I've installed Windows 8 developer preview on a laptop and everything is working apart from my external sound card. The sound card in question is this one, and I've tried downloading and installing the Window 7 drivers from here but no joy so far. As per the instructions I remove the USB cable from the port. I then run setup.exe and (which I have set to run in Windows 7 compatibility mode). It starts doing it's stuff then says "Please insert the USB cable and wait"......that's where things stop! Nothing happens. I don't even here the "ding-dong" of the USB device being recoginised. Obviously I realise that the drivers are for windows 7 and not 8, but was hoping that someone would be able to crowbar it to work!!! Any tips appreciated. Thanks

• Pfsense: Inbound Load Balancing https with sticky connection

  first of all I'm very sorry for my English... This is my scenario: Internet Firewall+LB: pfsense_1(Active) + pfsense_2(Passive) in CARP Pool servers: 3 x nginx(PHP5+HTTP+HTTPS) Pfsense 1 and 2 CARP configured with Virtual IP (pubblic). Nginx servers's ips are all private. I want to load balance inbound HTTP and HTTPS connections between the 3 nginx web servers. An importat thing is that the HTTPS connections must be "sticky connections": in HTTPS connections, after login by username and password, I setup a php session and therefore when a client starts a HTTPS connection it will be always redirected to the same nginx server, until it disconnects itself, it closes the page/browser or after a timeout (30minutes?) without activity. Is this possible whit the last release(2.0.1) of pfsense? thank you very much...

• Error when starting Outlook 2007 on Windows 7

  Every time I start Outlook 2007 SP2 on my Windows 7 box Outlook will look like its loading fine, then I get this error message: cannot start microsoft office outlook. cannot open the outlook window and outlook will close. I was able to get outlook to start by using outlook.exe /resetnavpane in the Start-Search box, a nice tip which I got from this social.microsoft.com page. But it didn't fix the problem since outlook is still complaining when it starts after a reboot. What can I do to get outlook to startup normally?

• Default Document not posting for IIS 7

  I am using URL rerouting in Asp.net 4.0 and my default page for the site is \home where user's can log in the app.So when the users type in my site's url i.e www.domain.com cause of the defualt page config which I have it gets redirected to my home.aspx page which is mapped on my global.asax as \home. Now all the log in request i.e Post request coming from www.domain.com are failing no events are being fired on the server. Where as if I try www.domain.com\home then things starts working I am able to log on. I had read a similar issue but still am confused about the solution http://forums.iis.net/t/1164877.aspx , this used to work fine on IIS 6 but on IIS 7 such a scenario started happening. Am I missing some configuration , please help.

• Restore XP on Acer Aspire One netbook

  I have an Acer Aspire One D250 netbook which came with Windows XP (but no CD) on which I have since installed Xubuntu 9.10. Now I am trying to sell it, but I cannot find a way to recover XP. I have read in a lot of different places that holding Alt+F10 during boot should send me to a recovery menu (which will allow me to restore XP from a "secret partition"), but I have tried many times to no avail. The best I can do is get the BIOS setup screen by holding F2, but there doesn't seem to be any recovery option there. After the initial option to go into the BIOS setup GRUB starts loading and there don't seem to be any more opportunities to enter a system setup screen. Please help!

• Server IP Address['s]

  hi there i am running server 2003, and seem to have this problem where the server starts kicking out users after a while, especially when they log off, they cant log back in, or the printers on the metwork stop connecting and they cant print to it. when i check the server, i notice that the server has 2 IP addresses, even though it has a static IP, it seems to pick up another IP address as well, but when you go into teh IPV set up, its not there, but of you run the IP scan utility tool, it picks it up. to correct this, i either can log off the server, then log back in, and the IP disappears, or sometimes this doesnt work, and i need to restart the server, but thsi happens like every 2 days or so.....can anyone out there help?

• OVF Tools error

  Hello all, I am trying to use OVF tools 1.0 to create an .ovf appliance split to 4gbs. When I run the following command: ovftool --chunkSize=4gb vi://:@/?ds= e:\test\test.ovf everything starts off fine. It will got for about 15-16% then I get this message: "Error: unable to get NFC ticket for target disk". I have looked online, but cannot find anything that matches this problem. I am using Windows 2k3 as the ovf creation server, and I'm in a ESX 3.5 environment. The ovf must be split into 4gb chunks (or less) so they can be put onto DVDs. Also, when it is done it deletes the files it started to create. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Firefox requests the master password twice

  I've set a master password for Firefox. When Firefox starts, it strangely opens two separate password request windows. When I type in the master password and hit enter, Firefox opens without problems, but the other password request window stays there. I simply close it but it's annoying. Why are there 2 windows as it's enough to type the password once? I've upgraded Firefox from 3.5.5 to 3.5.6 but the problem remains. Any comments?   I have problems importing my GPG-Keys into my new installation of debian. I exportet the private-key a few years ago. Now I am trying to get everything running under a new debian. I tried to do gpg --allow-secret-key-import --import private-key.asc But I only get this: gpg: Keine gültigen OpenPGP-Daten gefunden. gpg: Anzahl insgesamt bearbeiteter Schlüssel: 0 which translates to: gpg: No valid OpenPGP-Data found gpg: Number of processed Keys : 0 The file looks correct and starts with --BEGIN PGP PRIVATE KEY BLOCK----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) and ends with -----END PGP PRIVATE KEY BLOCK----- what could be wrong?

• Windows 7 and laptop overheating

  I am using ArchLinux 99% of my working time, and laptop has absolutely no heating problems. But when it comes to using Windows 7, laptop starts heating and one can clearly hear CPU fan working like crazy. I think it has something to do with CPU itself, because on Linux I can simply manipulate with CPU governors (eg. set it to ondemand), but I can't seem to find any similar software to do the same thing as if in Linux. • systemd initiated uwsgi process shuts down after a while

  So I wrote this simple systemd service script:- [Unit] Description=uwsgi server script [Service] User=web Group=web WorkingDirectory=/var/www/prod/myproject/releases/current ExecStart=/bin/bash -c 'source ~/.bash_profile; workon myproject; uwsgi --ini /var/www/prod/myproject/releases/current/myproject/uwsgi_prod.ini' [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target which works fine - it starts up and I can see my uwsgi processes in htop. However, it inexplicably shuts down after being idle for 5 minutes. If I start this process manually in bash console by executing, as web user:- source ~/.bash_profile workon myproject uwsgi --ini /var/www/prod/myproject/releases/current/myproject/uwsgi_prod.ini my process does not die after being idle. What could the problem be?

• Windows Update can't install Windows Vista SP1

  If you install Windows Vista RTM and run Windows Update, many updates are offered and will successfully install. Once all other updates are installed, Windows Vista service pack 1 is offered. When you attempt to install Windows Vista service pack 1, the service pack installation wizard appears, presenting the license agreement and so on. However, shortly after the installation starts the wizard disappears. Windows Update says that the update was installed successfully. However, service pack 1 is not in fact installed, and will be detected as needed again on the next update check. Repeat ad nauseum. On checking the Windows Update log, error 0x80190194 appears near the beginning of an update check, associated with the URL http://update.microsoft.com/vista/windowsupdate/redir/vistawuredir.cab. Why won't service pack 1 install properly and how do I fix it?

• Windows 8 Task Manager without elevating?

  In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the task manager ran non-elevated, and you didn't face a UAC prompt unless you chose "View Processes of All Users". In Windows 8 Preview, out of the box the Task Manager starts elevated every time. How can I configure it to start non-elevated so I don't get hit with a UAC prompt every time I check CPU usage or view the list of running processes to see if an application closed completely? (I am not looking for answers which involve weakening UAC, and I ask the community's help in downvoting any such suggestions.)

• Very poor battery life on Lenovo ThinkPad W500 laptop

  I have a new ThinkPad W500 laptop (w/ 9 cell battery) running Windows 7 RTM 64-bit. All drivers* and BIOS are the latest. Battery life appeared poor so I performed several tests under the following conditions: Battery starts with 100% charge Screen on minimum brightness Screen saver running Wifi n enabled and active "Normal" set of programs running including Outlook 2007, FeedDemon, TweetDeck and antivirus Laptop left untouched during tests Under the above conditions, I clocked under 2 hours of battery life across 3 tests (1:49, 1:52, 1:47). If I actually use the computer, we're looking at 1:30. Something is not right... The smoking gun here is that Lenovo hasn't officially released Windows 7 drivers for this laptop. I haven't tried with Vista or XP yet. What are others seeing? Update: For W500 owners w/ the 9 cell battery, what value do you see for "Full charge capacity" when on the Battery tab of the Power Manager utility? I see 81.87 Wh.

• sftp to cygwin cmd fails with "received message too long"

  I have a windows server running cygwin, where open-ssh is set up. I am able to ssh into the server fine. I need to run a script that I cannot amend, and which needs to copy files via sftp, and requires the shell to be cmd. However, it fails with the message "received message too long" because when cmd starts it displays the Windows banner, and sftp chokes on this. I can't find any way to disable the banner, or redirect the output, or in any way get around this problem. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

• IE8 Crash On Startup

  Hello All, I have a problem - IE8 has suddenly stopped working. I was doing some development work, and suddenly IE8 crashed every time I tried to use it. I've rebooted, but still crash every time I try to open it. There is no real indication as to what has gone wrong. It just says "Internet Explorer has stopped working". I've tried almost everything that I've seen when I've Googled it: I disabled all Add-Ins via Manage Add-Ins, but it still crashes on startup* I re-registered IEPROXY.DLL * The thing I don't understand is that if I start from the Run box with the -extoff option, IE starts up. Isn't that the same as disabling all Add-Ins? Any ideas? Thanks, wTs

• XFCE: active panel buttons when mouse is on screen edge

  I'm using XFCE 4.6.1 (Xubuntu distribution) on my laptop and main computer; the settings are approximately the same. so far for the intro. What I'm experiencing is that when going to the screen edge over the task bar on the laptop, the button under the mouse is active. On the main machine however, having the mouse on the screen edge, the button below it doesn't react at all! Only if I move the pointer towards the center a bit, the hover highlight starts and the button becomes clickable. I've tried to change the panel size, desktop theme and a few other settings, but none seems to cure that problem. Is there something that causes this problem? (Googling also seems to give no results)

• SmartSVN - Unable to create new repository profile

  I have just installed SmartSVN on this fedora system. The application starts (on running ./smartsvn.sh) with its usual UI but many things are not working. Creating New repository profile Trying to create a new repository profile (Repositories- Repository Profiles- Add) An Error occurred while processing an SVN command - Cannot connect to 'svn+ssh://192.168.0.103': There was a problem while connecting to 192.168.0.103:22 Quick Checkout Trying to do Quick Checkout (less configuration) An Error occurred while processing an SVN command - Malformed XML. Some Observations When I run the smartsvn.sh file like this:- ./smartsvn.sh It shows this in the console - Warning: /bin/java does not exist Could not lock /root/.smartsvn/_lock_ Switched to running instance I was using SmartSVN in another system before this where it was working. There too, it was showing the warning like Warning: /bin/java does not exist but this part was not showing:- Could not lock /root/.smartsvn/_lock_ Switched to running instance I have only JRE installed in both the systems and not JDK. • Ubuntu boots into command line instead of X.

  I posted this on the Ubuntu forums and they had no good answer. I hope you guys have a solution! On my relatively new install, it's booting into command line instead of X--again. This is the reason I reinstalled in the first place. This has happened to me three times now. So, I boot up and it gets past GRUB, past the glowing Ubuntu option, then it prompts me for my username, then password. I run: startx And that starts the GUI for about a minute, then it runs the GUI login system. To add to the mess, the network-applet is not shown in the panel. Additionally, Chrome will not launch (I ran Firefox from the terminal). What's the problem here?

• Share laptop Wi-Fi with router set up as access point via ethernet cables

  I have an ADSL modem which serves as a wireless router. There's a laptop connected to it through cable. On the other room I have a laptop which is connected through the router wirelessly. Since I have other appliances that need to get connected but are not Wi-Fi capable I have another Wi-Fi router. How can I share the second laptop's Wi-Fi with the second router so that the router can then serve as an access point to give internet to my other appliances through ethernet cables? I want something like this: INTERNETMODEM (WIFI)LAPTOP 1 (WIFI)LAPTOP 2 (WIFI)Router 2 (ETHERNET)DREAMBOX & WDTV What I've tried so far is opened the admin interface of router 2 then set static IP 192.168.100.13 and disabled the DHCP. The DHCP of the main router starts with 192.168.100.1 then I hooked up router 2 with the laptop 2 through Cat5 cable but for some reason it's not working.

Last friday we installed some windows updates. After the reboot tomcat doesnt start with error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap We reduced the parameter -Xmx1024m to -Xmx768m and now tomcat starts. • IE9 Kiosk Mode scheduled task opens behind taskbar

  I've set up a scheduled task in Windows 7 Pro to open up Internet Explorer 9 (x86 version) in kiosk mode. The scheduled task executes when a certain user logs in, and this user is logged in automatically when Windows starts. This is the command I'm using to start IE: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -k http://example.com So far so good - the computer boots up, the user gets logged in, and IE opens up in kiosk mode. The problem is that IE seems to open behind the taskbar - so the taskbar (start menu, pinned programs, etc.) appears at the bottom of the window, and the bottom of the IE window is visible through the taskbar (since the taskbar is translucent). Is there anything I can do, preferably without installing any third party programs (although I will go for that option if none other is available), to ensure that the IE9 kiosk window always opens in front of the taskbar?

How to download the source code form Debian package apache2-suexec, modify suexec.c - safe_env_lst, recompile and build a .deb package again to rollout on the production systems? I tried apt-get source apache2-suexec but didn't found the suexec.c within the occurred apache2-* folder. • Switching BIOS SATA RAID/AHCI setting causes BSOD at Windows Start - Why?

  I just changed my disk setup from: 1 SATA HDD Primary OS Disk 2x SATA HDD Backup Disks in RAID 1 TO: 1 SATA SSD Primary OS Disk 1 SATA HDD Backup Disk [No RAID] Everything worked great, no problem. So, since I don't have a RAID array anymore, I decided that I could change my BIOS setting to AHCI instead of RAID. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R v1.0 mobo. These are my steps: Settings Integrated Peripherals "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" = RAID -- Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome Next Step: Launch BIOS settings Integrated Peripherals "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" = RAID -- Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome Switch both settings back to RAID, reboot, and Windows starts up just fine, no issues. What am I missing? Why can't I set it to AHCI mode without BSODs?
