  • C# Byte[] to Url Friendly String

    - by LorenVS
Hello, I'm working on a quick captcha generator for a simple site I'm putting together, and I'm hoping to pass an encrypted key in the url of the page. I could probably do this as a query string parameter easy enough, but I'm hoping not too (just because nothing else runs off the query string)... My encryption code produces a byte[], which is then transformed using Convert.ToBase64String(byte[]) into a string. This string, however, is still not quite url friendly, as it can contain things like '/' and '='. Does anyone know of a better function in the .NET framework to convert a byte array to a url friendly string? I know all about System.Web.HttpUtility.UrlEncode() and its equivalents, however, they only work properly with query string parameters. If I url encode an '=' inside of the path, my web server brings back a 400 Bad Request error. Anyways, not a critical issue, but hoping someone can give me a nice solution **EDIT: Just to be absolutely sure exactly what I'm doing with the string, I figured I would supply a little more information. The byte[] that results from my encryption algorithm should be fed through some sort of algorithm to make it into a url friendly string. After this, it becomes the content of an XElement, which is then used as the source document for an XSLT transformation, and is used as a part of the href attribute for an anchor. I don't believe the xslt transformation is causing the issues, since what is coming through on the path appears to be an encoded query string parameter, but causes the HTTP 400 I've also tried HttpUtility.UrlPathEncode() on a base64 string, but that doesn't seem to do the trick either (I still end up with '/'s in my url)**

  • Matrix Comparison algorithm

    - by SysAdmin
    If you have 2 Matrices of dimensions N*M. what is the best way to get the difference Rect? Example: 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 4 5 4 3 2 3 <---> 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 4 5 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 2 3 | | \ / Rect([2,2] , [3,4]) 4 5 4 4 5 2-> A (2 x 3 Matrix) The best I could think of is to scan from Top-Left hit the point where there is difference. Then scan from Bottom Right and hit the point where there is a difference. But In worst case, this is O(N*M). is there a better efficient algorithm?

  • Displaying music list using custom lists instead of array adapters

    - by Rahul Varma
Hi, I have displayed the music list in a list view. The list is obtained from a website. I have done this using Arraylist. Now, i want to iterate the same program using custom lists and custom adapters instead of array list. The code i have written using array lists is... public class MusicListActivity extends Activity { MediaPlayer mp; File mediaFile; TextView tv; TextView albumtext; TextView artisttext; ArrayList<String> al=new ArrayList<String>(); //ArrayList<String> al=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> node=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> filepath=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> imgal=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> album=new ArrayList<String>(); ArrayList<String> artist=new ArrayList<String>(); ListView lv; Object[] webImgListObject; String[] stringArray; XMLRPCClient client; String loginsess; HashMap<?, ?> siteConn = null; //ImageView im; Bitmap img; String s; int d; int j; StreamingMediaPlayer sm; int start=0; Intent i; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.openadiuofile); lv=(ListView)findViewById(R.id.list1); al=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("titles"); //node=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("nodeid"); filepath=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("apath"); imgal=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("imgpath"); album=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("album"); artist=getIntent().getStringArrayListExtra("artist"); // ArrayAdapter<String> aa=new ArrayAdapter<String>(this,R.layout.row,R.id.text2,al); • Xml comparison in Python

    - by Gregg Lind
Building on another SO question, how can one check whether two well-formed XML snippets are semantically equal. All I need is "equal" or not, since I'm using this for unit tests. In the system I want, these would be equal (note the order of 'start' and 'end'): <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8' standalone='yes'?> <Stats start="1275955200" end="1276041599"> </Stats> # Reodered start and end <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8' standalone='yes'?> <Stats end="1276041599" start="1275955200" > </Stats> I have lmxl and other tools at my disposal, and a simple function that only allows reordering of attributes would work fine as well!

  • What should I call the operation that limit a string's length?

    - by egarcia
This is a language-agnostic question - unless you count English as a language. I've got this list of items which can have very long names. For aesthetic purposes, these names must be made shorter in some cases, adding dots (...) to indicate that the name is longer. So for example, if article.name returns this: lorem ipsum dolor sit amet I'd like to get this other output. lorem ipsum dolor ... I can program this quite easily. My question is: how should I call that shortening operation? I mean the name, not the implementation. Is there a standard English name for it?

  • KD-Trees and missing values (vector comparison)

    - by labratmatt
I have a system that stores vectors and allows a user to find the n most similar vectors to the user's query vector. That is, a user submits a vector (I call it a query vector) and my system spits out "here are the n most similar vectors." I generate the similar vectors using a KD-Tree and everything works well, but I want to do more. I want to present a list of the n most similar vectors even if the user doesn't submit a complete vector (a vector with missing values). That is, if a user submits a vector with three dimensions, I still want to find the n nearest vectors (stored vectors are of 11 dimensions) I have stored. I have a couple of obvious solutions, but I'm not sure either one seem very good: Create multiple KD-Trees each built using the most popular subset of dimensions a user will search for. That is, if a user submits a query vector of thee dimensions, x, y, z, I match that query to my already built KD-Tree which only contains vectors of three dimensions, x, y, z. Ignore KD-Trees when a user submits a query vector with missing values and compare the query vector to the vectors (stored in a table in a DB) one by one using something like a dot product. This has to be a common problem, any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

  • Looking for a .NET 3.5 / J2EE architecture concept comparison article/chart

    - by Edward Tanguay
We are thinking about combining .NET technology with Java technology (WCF, JBoss/ESB, MOM, WPF, WF) and I need to have a high-level idea of what are the apples and oranges in the .NET 3.5 and Java worlds. Does anyone know of a good, clear article or better yet a simple chart which answers questions such as: WCF in the Java world is __ the equivalent of WPF in the Java world is _ the closes thing to JBoss in the .NET world is _ the JVM and CLR are essentially the same except for these differences: .... in the Java world you don't have the concept of WF/WCF/WPF, instead you have .... there is no "LINQ" in the Java world yet, but you can use ___ the closest you get to ADO.NET Data Services in the Java world is .... I'm not looking to debate this so I'm not looking for "fighting points", I just need a neutral what-is-what chart comparing the two worlds.

  • Comparison of web template engines

    - by Mark
Post a snippet of code from your favorite templating engine, with the name of the engine and a link to its homepage; show off its basic syntax and maybe some neat features about it that makes it unique. Hopefully this will give people an idea of what's out there and make it easier for them to decide on an engine.

  • Scalability comparison between different DBMSs

    - by Björn Lindfors
By what factor does the performance (read queries/sec) increase when a machine is added to a cluster of machines running either: a Bigtable-like database MySQL? Google's research paper on Bigtable suggests that "near-linear" scaling is achieved can be achieved with Bigtable. This page here featuring MySQL's marketing jargon suggests that MySQL is capable of scaling linearly. Where is the truth?

I wanted to evaluate performance comparisons for various approaches to solving the N queens problem. Mainly AI metaheuristics based algorithms like simulated annealing, tabu search and genetic algorithm etc compared to exact methods(like backtracking). Is there any code available for study? A lot of real-world optimization problems like it consider cooperative schemes between exact methods and metaheuristics.

  • Object comparison in JavaScript

What is the best way to compare Objects in JavaScript? Example: var user1 = {name : "nerd", org: "dev"}; var user2 = {name : "nerd", org: "dev"}; var eq = user1 == user2; alert(eq); // gives false I know that "Two objects are equal if they refer to the exact same Object", but is there a way to check it another way?? Using this way works for me.....but is it the only possibility? var eq = Object.toJSON(user1) == Object.toJSON(user2); alert(eq); // gives true

  • Ruby: Is there a way to split a string only with the first x occurrencies?

    - by zxcvbnm
For example, suppose I have this: 001, "john doe", "male", 37, "programmer", "likes dogs, women, and is lazy" The problem is that the line is only supposed to have 6 fields. But if I separate it with split I get more, due to the comma being used improperly to separate the fields. Right now I'm splitting everything, then when I get to the 5-th index onward I concatenate all the strings. But I was wondering if there was a split(",",6) or something along these lines.

  • Java Conversion of byte[] into a srting and then back to a byte[]

    - by Sid
I am working on a proxy server. I am getting data in byte[] which i convert into a string to perform certain operations. Now when i convert this new string back into a byte [] it causes unkonw problems. So mainly its like i need to know how to correctly convert a byte[] into a string and then back into a byte[] again. I tried to just convert the byte[] to string and then back to byte[] again (to make sure thats its not my operations that are causing problems). So its like: // where reply is a byte[] String str= new String(reply,0, bytesRead); streamToClient.write(str.getBytes(), 0, bytesRead); is not equivalent to streamToClient.write(reply, 0, bytesRead); my proxy works fine when i just send the byte[] without any conversion but when i convert it from byte[] to a string and then back to a byte[] its causes problems. can some one please help? =]

  • C# Enum Flags Comparison

    - by destructo_gold
Given the following flags, [Flags] public enum Operations { add = 1, subtract = 2, multiply = 4, divide = 8, eval = 16, } How could I implement an IF condition to perform each operation? In my attempt, the first condition is true for add, eval, which is correct. However the first condition is also true for subtract, eval, which is incorrect. public double Evaluate(double input) { if ((operation & (Operations.add & Operations.eval)) == (Operations.add & Operations.eval)) currentResult += input; else if ((operation & (Operations.subtract & Operations.eval)) == (Operations.subtract & Operations.eval)) currentResult -= input; else currentResult = input; operation = null; return currentResult; } I cannot see what the problem is.
