  • Runtime error in C code (strange double conversion)

    - by Miro Hassan
    I have a strange runtime error in my C code. The Integers comparison here works fine. But in the Decimals comparison, I always get that the second number is larger than the first number, which is false. I am pretty new to C and programming in general, so this is a complex application to me. #include <stdio.h> #include <stdbool.h> #include <stdlib.h> int choose; long long neLimit = -1000000000; long long limit = 1000000000; bool big(a,b) { if ((a >= limit) || (b >= limit)) return true; else if ((a <= neLimit) || (b <= neLimit)) return true; return false; } void largerr(a,b) { if (a > b) printf("\nThe First Number is larger ..\n"); else if (a < b) printf("\nThe Second Number is larger ..\n"); else printf("\nThe Two Numbers are Equal .. \n"); } int main() { system("color e && title Numbers Comparison && echo off && cls"); start:{ printf("Choose a Type of Comparison :\n\t1. Integers\n\t2. Decimals \n\t\t I Choose Number : "); scanf("%i", &choose); switch(choose) { case 1: goto Integers; break; case 2: goto Decimals; break; default: system("echo Please Choose a Valid Option && pause>nul && cls"); goto start; } } Integers: { system("title Integers Comparison && cls"); long x , y; printf("\nFirst Number : \t"); scanf("%li", &x); printf("\nSecond Number : "); scanf("%li", &y); if (big(x,y)) { printf("\nOut of Limit .. Too Big Numbers ..\n"); system("pause>nul && cls") ; goto Integers; } largerr(x,y); printf("\nFirst Number : %li\nSecond Number : %li\n",x,y); goto exif; } Decimals: { system("title Decimals Comparison && cls"); double x , y; printf("\nFirst Number : \t"); scanf("%le", &x); printf("\nSecond Number : "); scanf("%le", &y); if (big(x,y)) { printf("\nOut of Limit .. Too Big Numbers ..\n"); system("pause>nul && cls") ; goto Decimals; } largerr(x,y); goto exif; } exif:{ system("pause>nul"); system("cls"); main(); } }

  • Doubt on pointer conversion

    - by Simone
    Suppose we have the following code: #include <iostream> struct A { virtual void f() { std::cout << "A::f()" << std::endl; } }; struct B: A { void f() { std::cout << "B::f()" << std::endl; } }; void to_A(void* voidp) { A* aptr = static_cast<A*>(voidp); aptr->f(); } void to_B(void* voidp) { B* bptr2 = static_cast<B*>(voidp); bptr2->f(); } int main() { B* bptr = new B; void* voidp = bptr; to_A(voidp); // prints B::f() to_B(voidp); // prints B::f() } is this code guaranteed to always work as in the code comments or is it UB? AFAIK it should be ok, but I'd like to be reassured.

  • Convert ToString to time format C#

  • javascript var assignment conversion to target type

    - by pbhd
    searching for a function, which converts rhs to the type of lhs. e.g. var x=false // x is boolean now; x=assign (x, "true"); //should convert "true" to boolean and return that x=assign (x, 1); // dto, convert 1 to true x=0 // x is number x=assign (x, "123"); // should convert "123" to 123; so such a function can be written, thats not the question. But: Is there somewhere a somehow complete implementation of such a thing? I started with something like that: function assign (v, x) { if (typeof v==typeof x) { return x; } switch (typeof v) { case 'boolean' : { return x=='true'?true:false; } case 'number' : { return parseFloat(x); } } return "xxx"; } var v=true; var x='true'; var r1=assign (v, x); console.log (typeof r1+ " "+r1); v=10; x="123"; var r1=assign (v, x); console.log (typeof r1+ " "+r1); which of course is not complete, but maybe shows what I'm goig for.

  • Ubuntu installation time problem

    - by hellodear
    I am installing Ubuntu and I am stuck at a point. The step is when it is asking me to select partition. It is showing me error: "No file system is defined Please correct this from partitioning menu". I am getting this error when I am clicking "Install". I want Ubuntu to install in /dev/sda7 which is 226727 Mb. I have Windows 8 in my system and I want to dual boot the system. So how to correct this error? I want to allocate this whole partition to Ubuntu only. Secondly, What should I put in the option: "Device for boot loader installation"? By default it is somewhat like this: "ATA WDC WD5000..." something like this. Please tell my both these questions. I would be very thankful to you. Thanks.

    Any smart way to convert a float like this: float f = 711989.98f; into a decimal (or double) without loosing precision? I've tried: decimal d = (decimal)f; decimal d1 = (decimal)(Math.Round(f,2)); decimal d2 = Convert.ToDecimal(f);

  • Python to C# Conversion of RGBA values not working

    - by clangers
    I'm currently converting some python code to C#, and I'm having an issue with the RGBA C# libraries # Original Python Code: d = math.sqrt( (x - size/2.0)**2 + (y - size/2.0)**2 ) rgbVal = int(200*d/md + 50) rgba = (0,0,0, 255 - rgbVal) img.putpixel((x,y), rgba) // My C# Code double d = Math.Sqrt(Math.Pow((x - DotSize / 2.0), 2) + Math.Pow((y - DotSize / 2.0), 2)); int rgbVal = (int) (200 * d / md + 50); Color color = Color.FromArgb(255 - rgbVal, 0, 0, 0); // ** ERROR ** img.SetPixel(x,y, color); At both instances of the code d is equal to 106 and md is equal to 53. However the resulting rgbVal value is 450. This would obviously mean that 255 - 450 is -195, which causes an error to be thrown as each individual value must be between 0 and 255. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this. Please note that the data is the same when running both the python and C# versions.

  • Conversion of Single to two UInt16 values in .net

    - by Gio
    In the good old days of C. I could cast a float to an int (assuming 32 bit system), do some bit manipluation ( bitwise and, right shift, ect ), and get the upper and lower 16 bit hex representations of the floating point number, which I could then store in two short values. I'm not seeing an easy way of doing this in C#. System.Convert.ToUInt16 just does a float to int convert (even after I shift right), which leaves a vlaue of 0 if the float is less than 0, which is not the desired effect. //useless leaves me witg a value 0f 0 UIN16 s1 = (UInt16)((System.Convert.ToUInt32(d2) & 0xffff0000) >> 16); //capture the high word UInt16 s2 = (UInt16)(System.Convert.ToUInt32(d2) & 0xffff); //capture the low word A basic cast (UInt32) doesn't work either.

  • Adding 30 minutes to time formatted as H:i in PHP

    - by bateman_ap
    Having a nightmare at the moment and just can't see why it isn't working I have a value in the form H:i (ie 10:00, 13:30) etc called $time What I want to do is create two new values, $startTime which is 30 mins before $time and $endTime which is 30 mins after $time I have tried the following but just doesn't seem to want to work $startTime = date("H:i",strtotime('-30 minutes',$time)); $endTime = date("H:i",strtotime('+30 minutes',$time)); If I pass through 10:00 as $time and echo out both $startTime and $endTime I get: $startTime = 00:30 $startTime = 01:30

  • C++ Program performs better when piped

    - by ET1 Nerd
    I haven't done any programming in a decade. I wanted to get back into it, so I made this little pointless program as practice. The easiest way to describe what it does is with output of my --help codeblock: ./prng_bench --help ./prng_bench: usage: ./prng_bench $N $B [$T] This program will generate an N digit base(B) random number until all N digits are the same. Once a repeating N digit base(B) number is found, the following statistics are displayed: -Decimal value of all N digits. -Time & number of tries taken to randomly find. Optionally, this process is repeated T times. When running multiple repititions, averages for all N digit base(B) numbers are displayed at the end, as well as total time and total tries. My "problem" is that when the problem is "easy", say a 3 digit base 10 number, and I have it do a large number of passes the "total time" is less when piped to grep. ie: command ; command |grep took : ./prng_bench 3 10 999999 ; ./prng_bench 3 10 999999|grep took .... Pass# 999999: All 3 base(10) digits = 3 base(10). Time: 0.00005 secs. Tries: 23 It took 191.86701 secs & 99947208 tries to find 999999 repeating 3 digit base(10) numbers. An average of 0.00019 secs & 99 tries was needed to find each one. It took 159.32355 secs & 99947208 tries to find 999999 repeating 3 digit base(10) numbers. If I run the same command many times w/o grep time is always VERY close. I'm using srand(1234) for now, to test. The code between my calls to clock_gettime() for start and stop do not involve any stream manipulation, which would obviously affect time. I realize this is an exercise in futility, but I'd like to know why it behaves this way. Below is heart of the program. Here's a link to the full source on DB if anybody wants to compile and test. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6olqnnjf3unkm2m/prng_bench.cpp clock_gettime() requires -lrt. for (int pass_num=1; pass_num<=passes; pass_num++) { //Executes $passes # of times. clock_gettime(CLOCK_PROCESS_CPUTIME_ID, &temp_time); //get time start_time = timetodouble(temp_time); //convert time to double, store as start_time for(i=1, tries=0; i!=0; tries++) { //loops until 'comparison for' fully completes. counts reps as 'tries'. <------------ for (i=0; i<Ndigits; i++) //Move forward through array. | results[i]=(rand()%base); //assign random num of base to element (digit). | /*for (i=0; i<Ndigits; i++) //---Debug Lines--------------- | std::cout<<" "<<results[i]; //---a LOT of output.---------- | std::cout << "\n"; //---Comment/decoment to disable/enable.*/ // | for (i=Ndigits-1; i>0 && results[i]==results[0]; i--); //Move through array, != element breaks & i!=0, new digits drawn. -| } //If all are equal i will be 0, nested for condition satisfied. -| clock_gettime(CLOCK_PROCESS_CPUTIME_ID, &temp_time); //get time draw_time = (timetodouble(temp_time) - start_time); //convert time to dbl, subtract start_time, set draw_time to diff. total_time += draw_time; //add time for this pass to total. total_tries += tries; //add tries for this pass to total. /*Formated output for each pass: Pass# ---: All -- base(--) digits = -- base(10) Time: ----.---- secs. Tries: ----- (LINE) */ std::cout<<"Pass# "<<std::setw(width_pass)<<pass_num<<": All "<<Ndigits<<" base("<<base<<") digits = " <<std::setw(width_base)<<results[0]<<" base(10). Tries: "<<tries<<"\n"; } if(passes==1) return 0; //No need for totals and averages of 1 pass. /* It took ----.---- secs & ------ tries to find --- repeating -- digit base(--) numbers. (LINE) An average of ---.---- secs & ---- tries was needed to find each one. (LINE)(LINE) */ std::cout<<"It took "<<total_time<<" secs & "<<total_tries<<" tries to find " <<passes<<" repeating "<<Ndigits<<" digit base("<<base<<") numbers.\n" <<"An average of "<<total_time/passes<<" secs & "<<total_tries/passes <<" tries was needed to find each one. \n\n"; return 0;

  • Sync clock on Windows XP machine to external (non-domain, non-workgroup) Windows Server 2008 R2 machine

    - by Eric
    I have two machines and I'd like their clocks to be in sync for various reasons. Machine 1 is an XP machine located in the office. Machine 2 is a VPS hosted by a third party running Windows Server 2008 R2. These machines are not in any kind of workgroup or on a domain together. They are completely separate machines. Machine 2 is currently syncing once a week to time.windows.com. The clock on Machine 2 does seem to wander a bit within that week interval. What I would like to do is have Machine 1 set its clock based on the clock of Machine 2. I have tried configuring w32tm on the XP machine. This is what I used for configuration: w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:"<ip address of machine 2>" However, whenever I issue the /resync command I get "The computer did not resync because no time data was available". I have made sure to start the windows time service on machine 2, and I have added firewall exceptions for UDP port 123. Is there something I need to configure on Machine 2 (other than just starting the time service) in order to get it to respond? Edit: I have also run w32tm /config /reliable:YES /update on Machine 2. I am still getting "The computer did not resync because no time data was available". Is there something else I'm missing?

  • What should I be doing while I wait for a progress bar?

    - by Malnizzle
    So I am sitting here waiting for a progress bar to run (20 mins or so), and was wondering how best to use my time as a SysAdmin. I debated not posting this question briefly, as this could get flagged as subjective, but I think it's an important question, and a question that can be legitimately answered (per the FAQ) I know this something a lot of sys admins deal with, especially if they are client-based I would venture to guess. There is a lot of material out there about how to multi task, but SysAdmin work is unique in this area as well. I could switch over to another project, but I could get wrapped up in that, and forget about the original project I was working on, and that's hard if you are billing a client for your time, both for tracking your time, as well as being fair to that client. I could check ServerFault, but that isn't directly work related, I could sort my email, so on and so forth. What do you do, or what should I do when I have time waiting for a progress bar? Thanks! (download done, back to work!)
