• Xcode 4: deleting items in Build Settings

  In XCode 4.0 there's a newly designed Build Settings page. My problem is that I can't see how to remove a setting once I've specified it. Example: I've changed "Versioning System" to "Apple Generic" at the target level. Afterwards I realised I should set it at the project level, and so I want to delete the target level setting. However, there's no way I can see to remove the setting -- you click on it and there's two options, neither of which is the default "not specified" empty setting. Hitting the delete key on the keyboard nothing. The same goes for fields that accept text -- if I try to delete a setting by just deleting all the text set, it still shows that field in green, but with no text in it, and regards it as the presence of a setting.

• nxhtml and geben: debug mode stops responding to keystrokes upon step into html/php mixed line

  I'm using the php debugger geben and nxhtml-mode. While debugging, as soon as I step into a mixed line such as <foo><?php bar(); ?></foo> the debugger is no longer accepting any key-strokes. However, the mode line still indicates the debugger's presence (*debugging*'-entry). I guess this due to nxhtml's mode changes, because it's the exact same behavior geben shows after disabling end re-enabling it. Does anybody use nxhtml together with geben and has fixed it? Or is it possible to configure emacs to enable nxhtml conditionaly, such that php-mode is used instead when the buffer was opened by geben?

• Is there a way to find out if an iPhone / iPad app is installed already?

  I'm writing a freeware version of an app and would like to check if a user already has the unfree version installed, and print a message whose contents are conditional on the results of the installation check... anybody know if this is possible? the closest I've come to a solution is to make use of the CFPreferencesSetValue API with a kCFPreferencesAnyUser / kCFPreferencesCurrentHost pairing... I haven't tried it, but based on the documentation it sounds possible. however in my current specific situation this API will not be able to solve my problem, because I want to check for the presence of an app I wrote 4 months ago that didn't write any data to the CFPrefs registry... because back then I didn't know of it nor did I foresee this situation arising... the only way CFPrefs can assist me is in future apps now that I know it exists :) so I'm wondering if there are other ways to do it? any help will be appreciated :)

  Well it is a basic question but I seem confused enough. #include<stdio.h> int main() { char a[100]; printf("Enter a string\n"); scanf("%s",a); } Basically the above is what I want to achieve. If I enter a string James Bond then I want that to be stored in array a. But the problem is because of presence of a blank space in between only James word is stored. So how can I solve this one. UPDATE After the replies given below I understand fgets() would be a better choice. I want to know internal working of fgets as why is it able to store the string with space where as scanf is not able to do the same.

• Is there a semi-standard way to associate a URL with an IRC user?

  I'm in the process of doing some identity consolidation, so I'm providing URLs to me at various locations on the internet. I'm quite active on IRC, so this naturally lead me to wonder whether there was a way to provide a link to my IRC presence. This lead to me finding http://www.w3.org/Addressing/draft-mirashi-url-irc-01.txt which appears to be a draft of an RFC for associating URLs with IRC, which suggests that I would be irc://irc.freenode.net/DRMacIver,isnick Which seems a little on the lame side. Further, this RFC draft has very thoroughly expired (February 28 1997). On the other hand it seems to be implemented in chatzilla at least: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/rt-messaging/chatzilla/irc-urls.html So does anyone know if there's a superseding RFC and/or any other de facto standard for this?

• Does a program exist for checking two similar directories for file differences?

  Is there a program to compare one folder and all subfolders to another folder and all subfolders for differences in the files contained therein (presence, absence of files, size and list of filenames)? Example of usage: I have 100 DLL files from environment 1 and I want to check if any of them are different (in size and date modified) from the 100 DLL files in environment 2. So I copy and paste all the DLLs in environment 1 into directory A, and all the DLLs in environment 2 into directory B. I then run my "directory comparison" program on directories A and B and find out that, aha, here is a list of 7 DLLs that have different modified dates and times between the two directories. • Is it possible to group validation?

  I am using a lot of my own validation methods to compare the data from one association to the other. I've noticed that I'm constantly checking that my associations aren't nil before trying to call anything on them, but I am also validating their presence, and so I feel that my nil checks are redundant.   I have 4 data frames, and would like to find the rows whose values in a certain column do not exist in any of the other data frames. I wrote this function: #function to test presence of $Name in 3 other datasets common <- function(a, b, c, d) { is.B <- is.numeric(a$Name %in% b$Name) == 1 is.C <- is.numeric(a$Name %in% c$Name) == 1 is.D <- is.numeric(a$Name %in% d$Name) == 1 t <- as.numeric(is.B & is.C & is.D) t } However, the output is always t = 0. This means that it tells me that there are no unique rows in any data sets, even though the datas frames have very different numbers of rows. Since there are no duplicate rows in any of the data frames, I should be getting t = 1 for at least some rows in the biggest dataset. Can someone figure out what I got wrong?

• Will SerialPort DataRecieved Event Trigger Repeatedly..

  Suppose I read data from SerialPort whenever there is 100 or bytes available or else nothing is done. That means, the remaining data will still be available in the SerialPort Buffer. This reading is done inside the event handler of DataReceived. Now If a situation arises, when there there is, say 50 bytes in the SerilaPort Buffer and no more data comes. From what I understand, the DataReceived Event will be triggered when ever there is certain amount of bytes available for reading from the Buffer. Now, in the given scenario, If i never read those 50 bytes, will the Event get activated continuously due to the presence of these unread bytes?

• Dynamically load a type from an external assembly

  From managed code, how do I load a managed type from another assembly at runtime, assuming the calling code does not have a static reference to the assembly? To clarify, let's say I have class Lib in Lib.cs compiled into Lib.dll. I want to write a class Foo in a separate assembly called Foo.dll, that does not have a reference to Lib.dll statically, but instead loads Lib.dll and then reflects on for the presence of the class Lib and then calls a method on it. Sorry for such an obvious question on Reflection. I figure it'll take much lesser time to get the answer on a forum that to read a few articles.

  Hello app engineers! I'm on an app engine project where I'd like to put in a link to a Javascript test runner that I'd like to only exist when running the development server. I've made some experiments on a local shell with configuration loaded using the technique found in NoseGAE versus live on the 'App Engine Console' [1] and it looks to me like a distinction btw real instance and dev server is the presence of the module google.appengine.tools. • Google chat badge not working anymore?

  I was using google talk chat badge (chatback - small iframe code that enables remote user to chat with you as anonymous) for some years but now it is not working anymore. The generated code is fine as it seems it opens a new window and all but after a second, it redirects to support.google.com page which of course is not of much use. I rechecked the code, generated new code, didn't help. Again redirects to support.google.com. The code is generated from http://www.google.com/talk/service/badge/New Anyone knows what's going on? Have they discontinued it or? Also, a suggestion - is there any alternative web-presence button like that for other messengers which don't require client on other end. For Skype, Windows Live or some other messenger?

• Can I access an iframe of the same domain in a separate window?

  How can I detect the presence of and then call a function on a frame that is already loaded in one tab (my iframed facebook app) from a page being loaded in a new tab (from an ad-served link). It seems most examples focus on parent/child iframe communication. In this case, a link will be served from Google Ad Manager, which only allows _top or _blank to be targeted. I want to pass an id through the ad click into the new page/tab on my domain and then JS call over to the frame my app is in to switch state. Both frames are on my domain but not in the same document or window. Is this possible?

• Using gprof with sockets

  I have a program I want to profile with gprof. The problem (seemingly) is that it uses sockets. So I get things like this: ::select(): Interrupted system call I hit this problem a while back, gave up, and moved on. But I would really like to be able to profile my code, using gprof if possible. What can I do? Is there a gprof option I'm missing? A socket option? Is gprof totally useless in the presence of these types of system calls? If so, is there a viable alternative? • Why are Java primitive types' modifiers `public`, `abstract`, & `final`?

  In the process of doing some reflection on Java types, I came across an oddity that I do not understand. Inspecting int for its modifiers returns public, abstract, and final. I understand public and final, but the presence of abstract on a primitive type is non-obvious to me. Why is this the case? • XPath : finding an attribute node (and only one)

  What is the XPath to find only ONE node (whichever) having a certain attribute (actually I'm interested in the attribute, not the node). For example, in my XML, I have several tags having a lang attribute. I know all of them must have the same value. I just want to get any of them. Right now, I do this : //*[1][@lang]/@lang, but it seems not to work properly, for an unknown reason. My tries have led me to things ranging from concatenation of all the @lang values ('en en en en...') to nothing, with sometimes inbetween what I want but not on all XML. EDIT : Actually //@lang[1] can not work, because the function position() is called before the test on a lang attribute presence. So it always takes the very first element found in the XML. It worked best at the time because many many times, the lang attribute was on root element.

In order to write a complete test script that branches the flow based on the some presence of some content in the popup window, I need to write a simple if condition that does something like if document.getElementById("xyz").value - that will run on the popup window and not the parent window. Any ideas on how to accomplish this? currently, the condition fails because it runs on the parent window. Also, how to extract some text from the dom and spit it out to a file at the end of the test?
