  • Looking for a very bare and basic blog system?

    Does anyone know of a user-hosted blog which can be an alternative to WordPress only, it should only have the bare necessities of a blog. I'll just take it from there. It should only have the following: Admin Account (for posting, editing, etc) Archive System Posting System with character limitation (For the Read More links.) Accept Comments from other users (only requires the user's name and email and / or website, then the actual comment). Pages (Allows me to create pages for custom content.) The reason I want this is because WordPress is already too bloated up that there are a ton of features that I don't need. I'd mostly be satisfied with a blogging system that has the above feature-set and I'll just work my way to add my own feature as I require it along the way.

  • Media Temple-like hosting services?

    I have a couple of wordpress sites which do not get much traffic now, but I plan on expanding to something like a 1000-2000visits/day in a year or two. Media Temple has some really nice offerings, but their Wordpress plan is 20/month...which is a little too much, seeing as at this point my site is more of a hobby than a money making machine. I currently host with HostGator (just switched from GodaddyiPageBluehost). All these cheaper/pop hosting services are okay, but it would be nice to find something a little bit more "premium", but at a lower cost than MT. Anyone know anything worth looking at?

  • How do I set the parental rating on a video?

    I can view the properties (right click, properties, details) of a video file and it has a field for parental rating. How can I add a rating to the file (the field is blank)? There is the problem that if I can add a rating, someone else may be able to change it to circumvent parental controls on a video player. This isn't of concern to me at this time. Edit: The file types are both .avi and .mpg. Edit 2: I own the file and have 'full control'.

    I'm hosting a Wordpress-site on Windows Server 2008 RS and want to scan all files that are uploaded by users for viruses using this plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/upload-scanner/. I'm on a really tight budget (no profit) so ClamAV seem like a good choice. What is the best way to run ClamAV under these circumstances? I'm concidering the following options: Just running the raw windows build from http://sourceforge.net/projects/clamav/ an setup definition updates with task scheduler. Any way to automate updates of the scanner (binaries)? Using a "distro" like ClamWin or Immunet (advertised on clamav.net). Any suggestions are welcome.

We have two solutions: Use phpsass which is a php script(but it has some bugs) Use Ruby Compiler which most of wordpress plugins use this I noticed that plugins which use Ruby need to have PHP proc_open function enabled on server. My question is what are Pros and Cons of using Ruby compiler on servers? and are most of shared web hosts support Ruby and have PHP proc_open function enabled by default?

  • apache/debian squeeze server loading directory listing instead of website

    when you navigate to mywebsite.com/ you see an apache page showing a folder called mywebsite.com/, clicking there then takes me to mywebsite.com/mywebiste.com which doesn't exist, so wordpress shows me the a 404 error.   • MySQL/Apache: Replace spaces with underscores only in certain URLs

    I'm having a problem with some images I'm using on my WordPress blog. After a migration I renamed every image replacing spaces with underscores, so HIDDEN_264_4062_FOTO_IDF los MID.jpg was renamed to HIDDEN_264_4062_FOTO_IDF_los_MID.jpg But althought the trick was necessary and worked for most of the posts, some of them try to find the old image, with spaces: This is not found http://www.example.com/files/HIDDEN_264_4062_FOTO_IDF%20los%20MID.jpg and this should be the right URL http://www.example.com/files/HIDDEN_264_4062_FOTO_IDF_los_MID.jpg Careful, though, 'cause the "%20" is only shown on the browser: the text on the database shows spaces, not "%20". I'd like to know if maybe I could make a SQL query in my WordPress MySQL database that replaces spaces in .jpg files with underscores. The path of the images is always the same, so the rule should transform this: /files/HIDDEN_264_4062_FOTO_IDF los MID.jpg /files/HIDDEN_264_4062_FOTO_IDF_los_MID.jpg the "/files/HIDDEN_264_" part is always the same, but the rest varies. Is some way to perform this? Maybe a rewrite rule on Apache (our current webserver)?

  • NullReferenceException when changing skin/theme via Application.Current.Resources

    I am writing an wpf application with multiple skins. The code to switch theme is as below: try { Application.Current.Resources.MergedDictionaries.Add( resource ); } catch( Exception ex ) { } The first time the code is called (to switch to a new theme), it is executed successfully; however, any subsequent calls to the same code would throw System.NullReferenceException.   • How to call wordpress functions in custom php script

    I have a Php script I want to use for creating a new blog in WPMU. I am having trouble calling wordpress functions like "wpmu_create_user" and "wpmu_create_blog". My hope is to get this script running as a cron job from command line and pick up new blog creation requests from an external db, create a new blog using the wordpress functions and update the db with new blog info.     Hi, I have over 2000 HTML files that are now in Wordpress blog. I have the URL Map of Old_file.html and new wordpress URL. I want 301 redirect but don't want to add 2000 lines to htaccess. Can you please suggest how to accomplish this using PHP so that when there is a request for old url, the php script should lookup into the database and redirect(301) to the new URL ? Thanks.

    I am using style triggers to change combo box to texbox if it's readonly, but for some reason when I apply the style, it cause the combobox theme to change from Aero to Windows Classic (the theme I currently have in use on my PC). Can I avoid this somehow? I suspect that there is no specific api call you can make, but you may be able to figure it out by checking something on some DOM element, ie feature detection.   • Drupal theme preprocess function - primary links

    I recently wrote a theme function to add a class to my primary links that works great. I then wrote some css classes to style these links with custom background images. Worked out great. Now comes the problem, the link text for the primary links still is displayed. Normally this isn't a problem as I would just wrap the in a with a custom "hide" class. For example: <span class="hide"><a href="#">Link Text</a></span> So my question is how can I loop through the primary links and wrap the text w/ a <span> like my example?     Intro I am in the process of trying to convert my first HTML/CSS design into a theme for Drupal. I have used ModX for quite a few designs and appreciate the ability to create different page templates and custom variables to be assigned to those templates. However I seem to be having some issues making the transition. The site I am working on theming in Drupal is for a real estate agent. Each page/section will have a different set of content associated with it and will need to display only that content. For example, there will be a page for current listings, each of which will be formatted by a custom content type. However, when I call the content on the home page (or on other pages) I do not want to see this listing data. Layout The layout of the site and the regions associated with each page/section is as follows: Home Spotlight Featured 1 Featured 2 About Spotlight Bios - Profiles of each agent (each will be a node with name, contact info, pic, etc) listed on the page; multiple nodes listed Sidebar Listings Spotlight Listings - Profiles of properties (each will be a node with locations, basic info, pic, etc) listed on the page; multiple nodes listed Sidebar Services Spotlight Content - general paragraph text area Sidebar News/Blog News/Blog Items - List of stories with summaries and links to full article Sidebar Each page/section will use the same header and footer. Issue I have done some reading on Drupal, custom content types (and CCK), Views, and Pathauto. However I have not been able to get a clear picture of how to put it all together to accomplish what I am attempting. What I really would like to know is which modules to use, how best to use them, which elements I need to use where, and what template files I should be using to theme the elements I need to use. Any help or reference to useful resources would be much appreciated.

    I've created new Windows Forms Application (C#) with one simple form containing ListView. Then I changed the View Property to Details and increased the size of the font used in this ListView and here's the result: This is how it looks on Windows XP with Windows Classic theme: and here's the result with Windows XP theme: Creating the same Windows Forms Application in Visual C++ instead of C# yields same result. EDIT : Thanks to Kamil Lach, we already know that Visual Styles is what makes the appearance of ListView change. This can be avoided either by removing Application.EnableVisualStyles() call or by changing the Application.VisualStyleState. Both of these solutions yield the following result: This looks fine, but this change affects the appearance of other controls which is not good. I'd like my ListView to be the only control that is not affected by Visual Styles. I've also found similar questions that try to deal with it: Can you turn off visual styles/theming for just a single windows control? How do I disable visual styles for just one control, and not its children? Unfortunately, none of mentioned solutions works. Any C# solution that would make the ListView header have the correct height would be appreciated.

  • Custom permalinks switching function. Please check this logic...

    I've got a setting in my theme options panel to allow the user to switch the permalinks setting to support friendly URLs. I'm only allowing /%postname%/ and /%postname%.html as options. I don't want to be triggering an htaccess rewrite everytime someone accesses a page on the site or views theme options, so I'm trying to code this to avoid that. I've got an input field in theme options that's called $myTheme_permalinks. The default value for this is "/%postname%/" but the user can also change it to "/%postname%.html" Here's the code at the top of theme options to handle this setting.   • get_bookmarks() object doesn't return link_category

    I'm trying to fetch all link-categories from the built in Wordpress linklist (or bookmarks if you will). To do this, I simply stored all links in a variable like this: <?php $lists = get_bookmarks(); foreach($lists as $list) { $cats[] = $list->link_category; } ?> To my surprise even var_dump'ing $cats gave me "String(0)", so I var_dump'ed out $lists instead, and it gave me this: array(8) { [0]=> object(stdClass)#5126 (13) { ["link_id"]=> string(1) "1" ["link_url"]=> string(27) "http://codex.wordpress.org/" ["link_name"]=> string(13) "Documentation" ["link_image"]=> string(0) "" ["link_target"]=> string(0) "" ["link_description"]=> string(0) "" ["link_visible"]=> string(1) "Y" ["link_owner"]=> string(1) "1" ["link_rating"]=> string(1) "0" ["link_updated"]=> string(19) "0000-00-00 00:00:00" ["link_rel"]=> string(0) "" ["link_notes"]=> string(0) "" ["link_rss"]=> string(0) "" } Now, codex.wordpress.org is a default link that comes with wordpress, it's in a category called "Linklist", and as you can see, the object contains everything about that link, EXCEPT the categoryname.     Hello, I just bought an HTC Touch Pro2. I previously have used a MotoQ. On the Q, I managed to write XML code to change my color scheme (not just the bars, but the background color and font colors.) I cannot seem to find how to do this on the HTC. I will explain: I am legally blind and can only see my phone if the colors are reversed i.e. I need the background of all menus and such to be black and the font to be white. Can anyone help me? I am a desperate woman!!!!

Is there some way to custom it's background, shape, etc or just using UTF-8 character (for example checkbox using ? character)? Well, as a new user, I was quite boring with the customize interface. Some kind of I want to change onto a flat-styled ui or a better one.
