• Backup Failed, need help not failing

  Backup (Deja Dup) failed to do an initial backup to my Amazon S3, and despite my best Googling efforts, I could not find a solution : ( Here's the error message: BackendException: Error uploading s3+http://deja-dup-auto-akiaiksyiqi3buaaz26a/My-Archive/duplicity-full.20130805T143807Z.vol1.difftar.gpg I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on a System76. The folder I'm trying to backup to in S3 is set to store as Amazon Glacier Storage. Any help would rock! Update: better debugging info: DUPLICITY: . • Migrate wireless settings from xp to windows 7

  I'm trying to migrate the settings of my old machine (Win XP Professional) to the new one (Win 7 Professional) and I would like to keep my saved passwords for various wireless networks. How can I export them from XP and import in Win7? A few things that are mentioned a lot in chat groups but don't work: netsh can export/import wlan profiles on Vista/Win7, but not on XP; the Wireless Network Setup Wizard can only export settings for networks created by me; the best method I found was via http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_wep_key_faq.html which can list hex keys, but cannot load them nor save them in a useful format; I would rather not copy them one-by-one by hand.

• SQL SERVER – Configuring Interactive Cleansing Suggestion Min Score for Suggestions in Data Quality Services (DQS) – Sensitivity of Suggestion

  Earlier I talked about what kind of questions, I do not like when I get asked. Today we will go over the question which I like when I get asked the same. One of the reader practices various steps in my earlier blog post Step by Step Guide to Beginning Data Quality Services in SQL Server 2012 – Introduction to DQS. While reading the blog post he noticed that Data Quality Services is not providing very helpful suggestions. He wrote an email to me about it. Let us go over his email. “Pinal, I noticed in one of your images that DQS is not providing very helpful suggestions. First of all DQS should be able to make intelligent guesses and make the necessary correction by itself. If it cannot do the same, in that case, it should give us intelligent suggestions but in the image included here, I see the suggestions are not there as well. Why is it so? Would you please tell me how to increase the numbers of suggestion? I do understand this may not be preferable solution in many case but all the business cases go on it depends. There are cases when the high sensitivity required and there are cases when higher sensitivities are not required. I would like to seek your help here. –Sriram MD” This is indeed a great question. I see that Sriram understands that every system is different and every application has a different need. I will not have to tell him this most important concept. The question is about how to change the sensitivity of suggestions for correction in DQS. Well, this option is available under the configuration tab in the DQS client. Once you click on Configuration you will see the following screen. Click the Tab of General Settings. You will see the section of Interactive Cleansing. Under this second there is the first option of “Min score for suggestions”. As this is set to 0.7 every suggestion which matches 0.7 probabilities or higher probability are displayed under the suggestion tab. You can see in the following image that there is no suggestion as the min score for suggestions is set to 0.7 and there is no record which qualifies to that much confidence. Now let us change the value of Min Score for suggestion to 0.5. The lower value increased the confidence of DQS to give further suggestion to values which are over 0.5. However, in our case the suggestions which it provides are also accurate. This may not be true for your sample. Every sample is different so you should manually review it before approving them. I guess, this is a simple blog post to demonstrate how to change the confidence value for the suggestions which Data Quality Services provides. Use this feature with care and always tune it according to your datasets and record diversity. • How different is WPF from ASP.NET [closed]

  I have been quickly moved over to a different project at work because the project needs more help. I was chosen because they are confident in my abilities and they thought I would be best fit for the next couple weeks to help finish the application out. I am a little nervous. I do tend to pick things up quickly. I was moved to a different project at the beginning of this year and now I know it like the back of my hand. Previously I was on another project. Both of these projects were an ASP.NET web application, which I believe is considered a winforms web application? The project I am moving to is a desktop WPF application. I have read that many people enjoy developing their applications with WPF. I just have never dealt/worked with WPF before. I like to consider myself pretty good at ASP.NET/C# and I do a solid job. We deal with a lot of data processing from the database and report generation. So I do get to experience C# more so than some web applications where the C# end of it is mostly just event driven and simple instructions. How different are the two? Will it be completely foreign to me? Or is it just a different way of looking at a problem and I can familiarize myself quickly? Thanks for the input.

• Is there such thing as hardware encrypted raid disk?

  I have a server for which I want to protect the content. The server is located on a clients premises. Is there a way to encrypt the content of a RAID DISK (at hardware level) ? What I need is that the server will not be able to start as long as the required password is not provided (the encryption key) I will give the best answer to Miles, though the answer was not exactly to my question. But from all the comments, it seems that it cannot be done hardware or .. it cannot be done as I would like to.

• Preffered lambda syntax?

  I'm playing around a bit with my own C like DSL grammar and would like some oppinions. I've reserved the use of "(...)" for invocations. eg: foo(1,2); My grammar supports "trailing closures" , pretty much like Ruby's blocks that can be passed as the last argument of an invocation. Currently my grammar support trailing closures like this: foo(1,2) { //parameterless closure passed as the last argument to foo } or foo(1,2) [x] { //closure with one argument (x) passed as the last argument to foo print (x); } The reason why I use [args] instead of (args) is that (args) is ambigious: foo(1,2) (x) { } There is no way in this case to tell if foo expects 3 arguments (int,int,closure(x)) or if foo expects 2 arguments and returns a closure with one argument(int,int) - closure(x) So thats pretty much the reason why I use [] as for now. I could change this to something like: foo(1,2) : (x) { } or foo(1,2) (x) -> { } So the actual question is, what do you think looks best? [...] is somewhat wrist unfriendly. let x = [a,b] { } Ideas?

  As a Software Engineer we had a lot of discussion on SE design. Although we sync every document on the development process on Google Doc, mind map just didn’t fit in Google doc yet. The best we can do is to store a copy and share it online. To me, Mind map is an ir-replaceable piece of tools (yet) as agile note taking tools. • Oracle JDK 7u10 released with new security features

  A few days ago, we released JRE and JDK 7 update 10. This release adds support for the following new platforms: Windows 8 on x86-64. Note that Modern UI (aka Metro) mode is not supported. Internet Explorer 10 on Windows 8. Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) This release also introduces new features that provide enhanced security for Java applet and webstart applications, specifically: The Java runtime tracks if it is updated to the latest security baseline. If you try to execute an unsigned applet with an outdated version of Java, a warning dialog will prompt you to update before running the applet. The Java runtime includes a hardcoded best before date. It is assumed that a new version will be released before this date. If the client has not been able to check for an update prior to this date, the Java runtime will assume that it is insecure and start warning the user prior to executing any applets. The Java control panel now includes an option to set the desired security level on a low-medium-high-very high scale, as well as an option to disable Java applets and webstart entirely. This level controls things such as if the Java runtime is allowed to execute unsigned code, and if so what type of warning will be displayed to the user. More details on the security settings can be found in the documentation. See below for a sample screenshot. The new update of the JRE and the JDK are available via OTN. • Modify .htm files on wireless router

  What am I trying to do? I am attempting to access the .htm files on my wireless router to modify the look and feel of the Netgear GENIE webpage(s). What have I done? I've read several articles on eHow and Instructables that detail how to setup your router as an FTP server, since I figured the best way to access the files would be through FileZilla. Setting up an FTP server through my router doesn't sound like what I should do to accomplish my task... or perhaps it is? I've also read the documents provided by Netgear for getting started and setting up functionality on the router. Maybe I overlooked something? My specifications Netgear router WNR2000v3 FileZilla v3.8.1 UPDATE: Since someone voted to close this question I'll clarify what I'm asking for... At the present I am dissatisfied with the current UI/webpage look when logging into routerlogin.net. Furthermore I would like to make changes to the admin dashboard.

• Transfer page from internal to external

  Afternoon all! Currently I have a website with a list of audio products (essentially a search engine for audio deals). http://www.soundplaza.co.uk Once you go to the details page, you can then press the 'view deal' button to go to providers site e.g. = http://www.soundplaza.co.uk/all-deals/113/bookshelf-speakers/acoustic-energy-1 This jump between two sites is a bit harsh and I would like to show a transition page, to simply ease them into another site and not scare them off. Within this tradition page I will have a simple loading gif and some graphics showing that your transferring. QUESTION: What is the best way to send the details (link, product name etc) to this transfer page, to then wait 5 seconds, to then move on to the desired link... this can in NO WAY damage my SEO, if anything rel="nofollow" would be great if possible. Currently I have seen that you can submit form to the transition page, then you can use php sleep and then php header to transfer... however I am not sure if php header will transfer SEO value tot he provider? Any opinions would be great! Thanks

• Z Order in 2D with orthographic projection and texture atlas

  I am working with a 2D game in OpenGL ES and have a question about z-order together with a texture atlas. I am using an orthographic projection because I want pixel-perfect rendering of 2D sprites, however from what I can determine the draw order is really the only thing that will determine which textures (sprites) appear above or below their neighbors. That is, the "z-index" is a function of the order in which the textures are drawn as opposed to the z coordinate on the vertex array being drawn. So.. I have a texture atlas to save binding multiple textures for each draw call but this immediately creates a problem if there is more than one atlas in play. If I need to draw textures from more than one atlas (typically the case if I have too many sprites to fit in a single atlas of a reasonable size), then I can't maintain a "draw order" across atlases unless I want to bind/unbind the atlas textures more than once.. which kinda defeats the purpose. Does anyone have any clues as to what the best approach is here? Currently I'm running under an assumption that I will have to declare different fixed "depths" (e.g foreground, background etc) in my 2D scene and assume that the z-order for sprites at a given depth is the same. Then I can have as many atlases as I need at each depth and simply draw the depths in order (along with their associated atlases) I'd love to hear what other people are doing.

I've been looking over this question on useful design patterns in gaming, but prototypal inheritance is very different than classical inheritance, and there are surely differences in the best way to apply some of these common patterns. For example, classical inheritance allows us to create a moveableEntity class, and extend that with any classes that move in our game world (player, monster, bullet, etc.). Sure, you can strongarm JavaScript to work that way, but in doing so, you are kind of fighting against its nature. Is there a better approach to this sort of problem when we have prototypal inheritance at our fingertips?

• Is any EXIF data stored within 3rd party Camera apps on the iPhone?

  I'm confused as to if any EXIF data is available when taking photos within 3rd party camera apps on the iPhone. My understanding is that Apple is currently not allowing any apps to save EXIF data to photos, and this is a limitation of saving to the camera roll on the phone. The last FAQ on this page indicates this, but appears to be out of date: http://www.codegoo.com/page/support I love some of the camera apps I've downloaded (Camera Genius, Best Camera, CameraBag) but don't want to continue using them if they aren't saving any/all EXIF data for the image. Anyone aware what the status of this 'limitation' is?

• Multi sim GSM modem or alternative

  I'm trying to administer the SMS trafic of my businesss centrally through a web portal. In Europe (except UK) we don't have a numbers/SMS trafic provider like Twilio or Clickatell, nor any build in way to administer the SMS traffic for a number via http, so I will have to buy the long numbers and administer the SMS traffic myself. For this I was looking into a hardware solution for hosting all my SIM cards - I have like 400 sims cards (= numbers). I saw that GSM modems might fit in but they don't seem to scale up very well. Could you recommend me a GSM modem? If this is not the best way to approach this, what would my alternatives be? Thanks in advance

• What do I need to develop a PHP extension in lampp?

  Actually I'm dealing with a trouble in my system, I have to delivery the system to clients and it was built in PHP, JS, ShellScript and SQL. I would like to encrypt the code or obfuscate it from eyes of others! Then someone from the community told me about build my own PHP extension, it sounds to me as a great idea, since it will not be with the main code of the system. But I have a problem doing this way, if a programmer get in the extensions and find it, all the hard work has gone. Then I'm here to ask again about this matter. What is the best way to hide my Business Logic from third parties? I know that has stuffs like IonCube, Zend Guard, and many others. But I'm looking something that I can build myself. Is PHP extension the right way to follow? Or some Half SaaS system, with dependencies (Business Logic) in a remote server? About the environment OS: Kernel Linux 2.6.37.1-1.2 - LAMPP (Apache 2.2, MySQL 5.5 PHP 5.3.8) In php generally the extension is located at /php/ext/ but in lampp I have no idea where it is, I just found a folder /opt/lampp/lib/php/extensions/ is that right place?

• How can I lock my Mac when I walk away?

  This has got to be an easy, trivial question but as a new Mac user, how can I lock my Mac when I walk away? On Windows this is dead simple - Win+L. Or hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and select "Lock this Computer" The best thing I've found for the Mac is to rig the screensaver to require password on wake, set a hot corner to fire off the screen saver, and do that as I leave. Which feels really "Windows 3.1" to me. Is there a Win+L-style method to quickly lock my Mac when I walk away?

• Should mock objects for tests be created at a high or low level

  When creating unit tests for those other objects, what is the best way to create mock objects that provide data to other objects. Should they be created at a 'high level' and intercept the calls as soon as possible, or should they be done at a 'low level' and so make as much as the real code still be called? e.g. I'm writing a test for some code that requires a NoteMapper object that allows Notes to be loaded from the DB. class NoteMapper { function getNote($sqlQueryFactory, $noteID) { // Create an SQL query from $sqlQueryFactory // Run that SQL // if null // return null // else // return new Note($dataFromSQLQuery) } } I could either mock this object at a high level by creating a mock NoteMapper object, so that there are no calls to the SQL at all e.g. class MockNoteMapper { function getNote($sqlQueryFactory, $noteID) { //$mockData = {'Test Note title', "Test note text" } // return new Note($mockData); } } Or I could do it at a very low level, by creating a MockSQLQueryFactory that instead of actually querying the database just provides mock data back, and passing that to the current NoteMapper object. It seems that creating mocks at a high level would be easier in the short term, but that in the long term doing it at a low level would be more powerful and possibly allow more automation of tests e.g. by recording data in an out of a DB and then replaying that data for tests. Is there a recommended way of creating mocks? Are there any hard and fast rules about which are better, or should they both be used where appropriate?

  In Dos we can input the first several characters to filter command history and find proper one rapidly. But how to do the same thing in Linux ? for example when I am testing a local server: cd sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd start wget ... ls emacs ... sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd restart sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd stop ... In Dos you can easily type sudo and switch among the three commands beginning with it using arrow keys. But in Linux, is below command the best we can do ? historty | grep sudo I don't like it, because history can easily become a mess, and it also need mouse action.

• How to backup and restore everything of foobar2000?

  What is the best way to backup and restore all my everything in Foobar2000? I was once clicked on a "Reset all" button which provide somehow a stupid feature - clear all setting and playlist. The story tell that, remember to do backup when there is nothing goes wrong. (And I don't think they should put the button on the middle of all the configuration screen.) But how? Are there any script or plugins to help me to backup all settings? I cannot find a button of export or import my settings.
