  I'm very newbie to Ubuntu OS and I have my solution developed in visual studio 2008. I want my application to run in both windows and Linux(ubuntu). I've few questions in my mind. 1)Does mono support visual debugger . 2)If I start development using mono.Is it possible to run same in .net framework (windows) ?? or do I need to write the NSI script to download the libraries during installation from internet and install. 3)what is the best way to achieve platform independence. • Compiler error while compiling the RAPID library on VS2008

  I've downloaded the RAPID library and tried to compile it on Microsoft Visual Studio 2008. However, I'm getting the following compiler error: C4430 missing type specifier - int assumed. • Copy method optimization in compilers

I have the following code: void Stack::operator =(Stack &rhs) { //do the actual copying } Stack::Stack(Stack &rhs) //copy-constructor { top=NULL; //initialize this as an empty stack (which it is) *this=rhs; //invoke assignment operator } Stack& Stack::CopyStack() { return *this; //this statement will invoke copy contructor } It is being used like this: unsigned Stack::count() { unsigned c=0; Stack copy=CopyStack(); while (!copy.empty()) { copy.pop(); c++; } return c; } Removing reference symbol from declaration of CopyStack (returning a copy instead of reference) makes no difference in visual studio 2008 (with respect to number of times copying is invoked). I guess it gets optimized away - normally it should first make a copy for the return value, then call assignment operator once more to assign it to variable sc. The years headers can be fixed as I don't want to do sorting by that. Is there a way to do that in Google Visualizations? • Talking to a server in Win32; how do I see the server's response?

  I am new to Win32 programming. sprintf(lpszBuff,"HELO Mail-Server\r\n"); send(s,lpszBuff,strlen(lpszBuff),0); recv(s,lpszBuff,100,0); cout << lpszBuff; In here I connect to a local mail server. The buffer contains the request I send, the same buffer contains the reply send by the browser. How do I see the reply? cout <<buffer doesn't show any output. I am doing this on VC++ 2008.

• Crystal Reports Formula Workshop boolean condition to string

  I'm currently trying to create a report using Crystal Reports that comes with Visual Studio 2008. I would like to include a field of type boolean on my report that shows a string rather than true or false. The string should contain either contain a € or a % sign. How would I go about doing this in the Formula Workshop? I've tried things like e.g. if {tblAankoopDetails.SoortKorting} = true then "€" else "%" However this never seems to work and results in warnings such as "The formula result must be a number". This should be fairly simple but this is my first go at using Crystal Reports. Help would be much appreciated. Jay

Does anybody know why it is valid for Foo() to have a default argument with std::make_shared but not P::Foo()?

• How do I make use of multiple cores in Large SQL Server Queries?

  I have two SQL Servers, one for production, and one as an archive. Every night, we've got a SQL job that runs and copies the days production data over to the archive. As we've grown, this process takes longer and longer and longer. When I watch the utilization on the archive server running the archival process, I see that it only ever makes use of a single core. And since this box has eight cores, this is a huge waste of resources. The job runs at 3AM, so it's free to take any and all resources it can find. So what I need to do if figure out how to structure SQL Server jobs so they can take advantage of multiple cores, but I can't find any literature on tackling this problem. We're running SQL Server 2005, but I could certainly push for an upgrade if 2008 takes of this problem.

  A similar question has been asked, but since it always depends, I'm asking for my specific situation separately. I have a web-site page that shows some data that comes from a database, and to generate the data from that database I have to do some fairly complex multiple joins queries. The data is being updated once a day (nightly). I would like to pre-generate the data for the said view to speed up the page access. For that I am creating a table that contains exact data I need. Question: for my situation, is it reasonable to do complete table wipe followed by insert? or should I do update,insert?   I'm doing Elgamal Signature Scheme and I need to use the decimal hash value from the message to compute S for signature generation. string hash = md5(message); cout << hash << endl; NTL::ZZ msgHash = strtol(hash.c_str(), NULL, 16); cout << msgHash << endl; There are no integer large enough to contain the value of 32 byte hexadecimal hash, and so I tried big integer from NTL library but it didn't work out because you cannot assign long integer to NTL::ZZ type. Is there any good solution to this? I'm doing this with visual C++ in Visual Studio 2013.

  Hello, I've been seing Func< for sometime now, and I've manage to avoid it (for now). But, now it looks like I can't dodge it forever. For instance, I tried Dynamic Linq, but almost everything was in terms of Func<. I've tried one of my book (C# 2008/Deitel&Deitel) and also MSDN but I'm not getting it yet. • full-text property change on column

  Hello, i'm trying to modify a property of a column (in sql server 2008 r2) which is of xml data type. I want set (Is full-text indexed) to yes, but after I do this and try to save changes, i get an error: 'Abc' table - Unable to modify table. Column: B is not full-text searchable. Column B is not the column I'm modyfing, but it's content is based on the modified xml column (it takes a value from one element in xml). Weird thing is that column B is full-text indexed (in table designer). Any ideas why i cannot apply changes to the xml column?

• MS VC++ 6 class wizard

  Ok, I'm developing an application that has been in pretty much continous development over the last 16 years, from C in DOS, through various flavours of C++ and now is largely based around C++ with MFC and StingRay GUIs and various other SDKs. While I use VS 2005 for the release builds, I still use MSVC 6 for much of the GUI building, simply because ClassWizard is so much quicker in this environment than the weak equivalent tools that followed. Note that I am using ClassWizard to automatically generate code for my own user defined types (see Custom DDXs) and I like to add a lot of member variables and methods in one go. Creating them one at a time as per later versions of Visual Studio for me is a big backward step. At the same time, working with multiple IDEs is also a pain. My question is in two parts; Is there any way of getting ClassWizard to work is VS 2005 or VS 2008? Is there any drop in replacement, or alternative IDE, that provides similar levels of productivty for old C++ hacks such as myself?

  SQL Server 2008 R2 Here is a simplified example: EXECUTE sp_executesql N'PRINT ''1st '' + convert(varchar, getdate(), 126) WAITFOR DELAY ''000:00:10''' EXECUTE sp_executesql N'PRINT ''2nd '' + convert(varchar, getdate(), 126)' The first statement will print the date and delay 10 seconds before proceeding. The second statement should print immediately. The way T-SQL works, the 2nd statement won't be evaluated until the first completes. If I copy and paste it to a new query window, it will execute immediately. The issue is that I have other, more complex things going on, with variables that need to be passed to both procedures. What I am trying to do is: Get a record Lock it for a period of time while it is locked, execute some other statements against this record and the table itself Perhaps there is a way to dynamically create a couple of jobs? Anyway, I am looking for a simple way to do this without having to manually PRINT statements and copy/paste to another session. Is there a way to EXEC without wait / in parallel?

• TFS for version maintainance

  I am part of a team that releases versions of our software 4-5 times each year to our customers. We maintain the previous 2-3 versions of our product by correcting any errors that we come across in later versions. We are using TFS 2008 for source control and are trying to find the best way of maintaining the older versions. We currently create a branch of our application each time we do a new version, but we are looking for a good way to update old versions more easily. For example, we complete 9.5 but two weeks after we created the branch and are working on 10.0, we realize that 9.5 has an error. We currently make the change in version 10.0 and then open 9.5 to make the change again. Is there anyway of automating this? Thanks!

• Win32_PageFileUsage WMI call returning 0 for CurrentUsage

  I am querying for the current page file usage on Windows-based systems. This is meant to run on the .NET Framework, version 2.0 SP1 and has been tested (and works!) on Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows Server 2008. On Windows Server 2003 SP2 (original release, not R2) it appears to return 0: using (var query = new ManagementObjectSearcher("SELECT CurrentUsage FROM Win32_PageFileUsage")) { foreach (ManagementBaseObject obj in query.Get()) { uint used = (uint)obj.GetPropertyValue("CurrentUsage"); return used; } } This is simply returning the results from the first row returned for the WMI call. Even when a page file is being used, it returns 0. What causes the result to be 0 when it should be returning a larger value? It may be something specific to the machine in question, and could have nothing to do with the operating system version. I've also tried this with and without elevated privileges with the same results.

  hi .. how do i make sure that the application iam developing will look the same on other windows-systems? iam developing now on a windows7, with .net 3.5 framework .. (VS 2008) as an example, i have a toolbar, that i changed its rendermode to system, it looks ok on my windows7, but when i run the application on windows xp, it is different, even the onmouseover backcolor is different. .. is there a way to make the application looks like on every windows system (talking abt xp, vista and windows 7 only), lets say like exporting the settings of all the controls with the application !? or any trick to make sure it will be always the same ? thankss in advance

The app is based on screen-flows , i.e each screen is defined with some visual elements with some buttons which have async events associated with them(consuming web services basically). The buttons also have functionality to go back and forth between screens and jump to any screen. I want to define all of the visual elements and the functionality of the events in a XML file. Thus the model, view and controller are all in the XML. Does any framework allow this like Pure MVC? Where can I find some examples of this kind of functionality that I want?

When grid is rendered it loads very first page on the screen and then there are number of pages in the grid header. I scrap first page, and now i want to move on to the next page. I am desperately searching a way, how to cope with this website. i really want this done. i do not want any code but a way to nevigate throgh the grid using query string if it does work. Otherwise please be specific to the problem.

  Hi, the question is hard to define without giving an example, e.g. I'd like to achieve something like this : SELECT (CASE WHEN ...) AS FieldA, 20 + FieldA AS FieldB FROM Tbl Assuming that by "..." I've replaced a long and complex CASE statement, hence I don't want to repeat it when selecting FieldB and use the aliased FieldA instead. IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE? What could be a workaround? Note, that this will return multiple rows , hence the DECLARE/SET outside the SELECT statement is no good in my case. PLEASE HELP. P.S. I am using SQL 2008

If I try a non-unicode string it works just fine. I am looking for a specific implementation that has a counterpart of all the respective Oracle package members of DBMS_ASSERT. NOOP SIMPLE_SQL_NAME QUALIFIED_SQL_NAME SCHEMA_NAME I know the best-practices of preventing injection...bind variables...being one of them. But,in this question I am specifically looking for a good way to sanitize input...in scenarios where bind-variables were not used. Do you have any specific implemetations? Is there a library that actually is a SQL Server Port of the Oracle package?
