• Desine time XAML serialization problem in VS2010 Designer

  The wired problem is, in VS 2008, everything works fine. In VS2010 while serializing, it is missing the "ReportDimensionElements" so I'm unable to get the values back from the serialized value back from the XAML. It says, "'ReportDimensionElements' is null" am I missing anything silly. Note: I have marked the ReportDimensionElements class with [DefaultValue(null)] for avoiding {x:Null} being serialized. Will it be causing this by any way? • How do i prevent my code from being stolen?

  What happens exactly when I launch a .NET exe? I know that C# is compiled to IL code and I think the generated exe file just a launcher that starts the runtime and passes the IL code to it. But how? And how complex process is it? IL code is embedded in the exe. I think it can be executed from the memory without writing it to the disk while ordinary exe's are not (ok, yes but it is very complicated). My final aim is extracting the IL code and write my own encrypted launcher to prevent scriptkiddies to open my code in Reflector and just steal all my classes easily. Well I can't prevent reverse engineering completely. If they are able to inspect the memory and catch the moment when I'm passing the pure IL to the runtime then it won't matter if it is a .net exe or not, is it? I know there are several obfuscator tools but I don't want to mess up the IL code itself. EDIT: so it seems it isn't worth trying what I wanted. They will crack it anyway... So I will look for an obfuscation tool. And yes my friends said too that it is enough to rename all symbols to a meaningless name. And reverse engineering won't be so easy after all.

• Advice on Minimizing Stored Procedure Parameters

  Hi Guys, I have an ASP.NET MVC Web Application that interacts with a SQL Server 2008 database via Entity Framework 4.0. On a particular page, i call a stored procedure in order to pull back some results based on selections on the UI. Now, the UI has around 20 different input selections, ranging from a textbox, dropdown list, checkboxes, etc. Each of those inputs are "grouped" into logical sections. Example: Search box : "Foo" Checkbox A1: ticked, Checkbox A2: unticked Dropdown A: option 3 selected Checkbox B1: ticked, Checkbox B2: ticked, Checkbox B3: unticked So i need to call the SPROC like this: exec SearchPage_FindResults @SearchQuery = 'Foo', @IncludeA1 = 1, @IncludeA2 = 0, @DropDownSelection = 3, @IncludeB1 = 1, @IncludeB2 = 1, @IncludeB3 = 0 The UI is not too important to this question - just wanted to give some perspective. Essentially, i'm pulling back results for a search query, filtering these results based on a bunch of (optional) selections a user can filter on. Now, My questions/queries: What's the best way to pass these parameters to the stored procedure? Are there any tricks/new ways (e.g SQL Server 2008) to do this? Special "table" parameters/arrays - can we pass through User-Defined-Types? Keep in mind im using Entity Framework 4.0 - but could always use classic ADO.NET for this if required. What about XML? What are the serialization/de-serialization costs here? Is it worth it? How about a parameter for each logical section? Comma-seperated perhaps? Just thinking out loud. This page is particulary important from a user point of view, and needs to perform really well. The stored procedure is already heavy in logic, so i want to minimize the performance implications - so keep that in mind. With that said - what is the best approach here?

• Should I still be using jquery .getJson in 1.4.2?

  Hi I was looking at the 14 days of jquery http://jquery14.com/day-01/jquery-14 and I saw this and it got me to wondering is there a point to use getJson anymore? JSON and script types auto-detected by content-type (jQuery.ajax Documentation, Commit 1, Commit 2) If the response to an Ajax request is returned with a JSON mime type (application/json), the dataType defaults to “json” (if no dataType is specified). Additionally, if the response to an Ajax request is returned with a JavaScript mime type (text/javascript or application/x-javascript) , the dataType defaults to “script” (if no dataType is specified), causing the script to automatically execute. First I can see such a huge benefit of this. In jquery 1.3 I came to a situation where in some cases I would return a partial view and some cases I would return a json result (asp.net mvc). It worked in firefox but in no other browser and one of the problems was I basically had to tell jquery to either do json or text/html. With it automatically detecting I could get away with this. Anyways I found a solution around this at that time. So now it just makes me wonder if there is any point to using GetJson. I am also unsure how to set these JavaScript mime types? I am assuming that if you return a JsonResult from asp.net mvc it will set it. but I am not sure if I was just sending a text result if it would be set( I am not sure if ContentResult would set this).

• How can i pull an image and data from a Database?

  I am trying to pull data from a Database using C#.net and use a Foreach loop to make it visible on a page. Every time i run the code i only get one item that shows up when i know that there is at least 7 items in the DB. i have placed the code below for the C#. • my web service works locally but, not when it is deployed

  When I deploy my web service, I get the following error: There is no build provider registered for the extension '.svc'. You can register one in the section in machine.config or web.config. Make sure is has a BuildProviderAppliesToAttribute attribute which includes the value 'Web' or 'All'. I found one thread (http://forums.asp.net/t/1228638.aspx) that suggested a solution but, I can not get it to work. If I make the changes to my web config file as suggested in the thread, I then get a configuration error. One odd thing is that, if I check the machine.config file on my machine, located at C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config, I don't see any of the config settings described in the thread. As a matter of fact, there is no mention of "compilation" or "buildProviders" at all. The on-line documents I have found regarding BuildProviderAppliesToAttribute have not been of any help. • What is the best way to store static data in C# that will never change

  I have a class that stores data in asp.net c# application that never changes. I really don't want to put this data in the database - I would like it to stay in the application. • Iteration through the HtmlDocument.All collection stops at the referenced stylesheet?

  Since "bug in .NET" is often not the real cause of a problem, I wonder if I'm missing something here. What I'm doing feels pretty simple. I'm iterating through the elements in a HtmlDocument called doc like this: System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("*** " + doc.Url + " ***"); foreach (HtmlElement field in doc.All) System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine(string.Format("Tag = {0}, ID = {1} ", field.TagName, field.Id)); I then discovered the debug window output was this: Tag = !, ID = Tag = HTML, ID = Tag = HEAD, ID = Tag = TITLE, ID = Tag = LINK, ID = ... when the actual HTML document looks like this: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>Protocol</title> <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all" href="ProtocolStyle.css"> </head> <body onselectstart="return false"> <table> <!-- Misc. table elements and cell values --> </table> </body> </html> Commenting out the LINK tag solves the issue for me, and the document is completely parsed. The ProtocolStyle.css file exist on disk and is loaded properly, if that would matter. Is this a bug in .NET 3.5 SP1, or what? For being such a web-oriented framework, I find it hard to believe there would be such a major bug in it.

• Configuration Error , Finding assembly after I swapped referenced dll out. Visual Studio 2003

  Here is the situation. I had a clean build of my asp.net web application working. I then went into the bin folder under the web app and replaced two referenced dll's with two older version of the same dll's. (Same name etc.) After testing I replaced those dll's back to the new ones and now my application keeps throwing the configuration error === Pre-bind state information === LOG: DisplayName = xxxxx.xxxx.Personalization (Partial) LOG: Appbase = file:///c:/inetpub/wwwroot/appname LOG: Initial PrivatePath = bin Calling assembly : (Unknown). LOG: Policy not being applied to reference at this time (private, custom, partial, or location-based assembly bind). I found this issue on the web and tried all the solutions to it but nothing worked. I then went into all my projects that it references under the solution and cleared out the bin/debug folder in each, I cleared out the obj folder under each and also deleted the temporary files associated with the application. I rebuilt it and it still will not work due to this error Not sure what is causing this or how to fix this issue. I have tried restarting IIS, stopping index services which was said to be a known issue. This is .net framework 1.1 app and visual studio 2003 Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

• Accessing to Request object will lead to ReadEntityBody to return 0 (in a HttpHandler class)

  I created a httpHandler that successfully implements IHttpHandler for handling file uploads. It works perfectly fine. You send the file with the form, the class receives it and will save it to hard disk. It reads chunks of file with ReadEntityBody function of HttpWorkerRequest class. Here is the situation i'm faced with.If at any stage before trying to read the file with ReadEntityBody, I try to access Request object (even Request.InputStream.Length!) ReadEntityBody would return 0 means it won't read from file stream. After further testing I found out the reason behind it. Accessing to Context.Current.Request object will trigger some sort of functionality that will cause asp.net to handle file uploads at that moment by it's own! I believe this is a bug. for example exactly after this line of code, asp.net will upload the file completely, and so there will be no stream for ReadEntityBody to read from later. int FileSize = context.Request.InputStream.Length; Can anybody tell how to stop this?

• jQuery .ajax method executing but not firing error (or success)

  I'm having a very strange situation. I have a .NET Web Service (.asmx) that I'm trying to call via jQuery ajax to populate some <select></select>'s. The service is running System.Web.Services like it's supposed to and should be returning a JSON list. At least that's the way I understand that it will in .NET 3.5/4.0. The main problem is that the .ajax() function (below) seems to execute but the internal callbacks aren't executing. However this is NOT secure. So I want to make it secure... https. How easy is it to integrate https? How much will the code change? How much do I have to handle? What is transparent to me. Do I have to check if a cookie already exists and if not write the methods for authentication or is there librarys already provided that will do it for me?

• Using Visual Studio to make non aspx code-behind pages

  I want to build my own "code behind" like pages so that i can have HTML in a HTML file and code in cs file but be able to have Intellesense for the tokens in the HTML file. (i know that's what the .NET page class does, but i want to have something much lighter) EG: in the .html file: <%@ Directive classname="HTMLSnippet" %> <html> <body> <div>[%message%] </body> </html> and in a .cs file public class MyClass : HTMLSnippet { public class MyClass () { snippet.message = "message goes here" } } So my question is how do make the HTMLSnippet class so that it's members are automatically created, and specifically show up in Intellesense as i add tokens to the .html file? I know that .net currently does it by creating the designer.cs file and basically builds a class with all the elements from the page as it goes, and that would work fine but how can i get visual studio to generate that before compiling so that it shows up in Intellesense. Thanks! Clarification I'm not using this as a handler yet, i want to use this to have HTML snippets with tokens be usable in code as an object with properties. so almost like a custom control. I think what i have to do is create a VS add-in that waits for me to type tokens into an .html file then it automatically creates a .cs file with members for each token.

  I am trying to install a SSL certificate on IIS 7. I have download a free trial certificate. After that, this is the steps what I do: Click the Start menu and select Administrative Tools. Start Internet Services Manager and click the Server Name. In the center section, double click on the Server Certificates button in the Security section. From the Actions menu click Complete Certificate Request. Enter the location for the certificate file. Enter a Friendly name. Click OK. Under Sites select the site to be secured with the SSL certificate. From the Actions menu, click Bindings.This will open the Site Bindings window. In the Site Bindings window, click Add. This opens the Add Site Binding window. Select https from the Type menu. Set the port to 443. Select the SSL Certificate you just installed from the SSL Certificate menu. Click OK. This is the step where I get the message: One or more intermediate certificates in the certificate chain are missing. To resolve this issue, make sure that all of intermediate certificates are installed. For more information, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/954755 After this, when I access the web site on its first page, I get this message: There is a problem with this website's security certificate. What am I doing wrong?

As part of file validation I have used CAPICOM (SignedCode object) to validate if a certificate contains a specific string and call to Validate method of the SignedCode object. In case the file contains certificate without a requested string in the name, user was prompted if he trust this file. Since CAPICOM going to be deprecated by Microsoft, I need to implement these logic using .NET libraries. How I can get the same functionality using .NET libraries? Is there any example on the web? • Change webserver used by Flex in FlexBuilder to .NET Framework 3.5

  I just had to reformat and reinstall Flex and reconstruct a project. The problem is i am using ASP.NET as my server side technology and using LINQ in my files. The version of WebDev.Webserver.exe that FlexBuilder starts up is the wrong version so I get this error : Compiler Error Message: CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Linq' does not exist in the namespace 'System' (are you missing an assembly reference?) Microsoft (R) Visual C# 2005 Compiler version 8.00.50727.3053 for Microsoft (R) Windows (R) 2005 Framework version 2.0.50727 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 2001-2005. All rights reserved. I know that changing to the latest version of ASP.NET / Framework will fix this - but I just can't figure out HOW to make that change in Flexbuilder. I cant even remember if i ever successfully did it before or if I just created a virtual directory in IIS7. Where would I change the version?

  I installed mono fast cgi for nginx following instructions on: http://www.mono-project.com/FastCGI_Nginx but when i try to load test aspx file i getting 502 error gateway,and following error in error log: 2011/11/28 18:49:51 [error] 5376#0: *6 upstream sent unexpected FastCGI record: 3 while reading response header from upstream, client: ipadress, server: ipadress, request: "GET /default.aspx HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9999", host: "ipadress" I tried different things to change but always same result,except maybe sometime in error log is number 1 or 3 instead 6.Nginx ver is 1.03 64 bit,mono and xsp latest versions. Any idea what could be wrong?

  I installed Windows Server 2008 as the OS, but I dislike the SQL Server Express which it provide by default at all. So I changed to SQL Sever 2008 Enterprise. Here comes the problem, I don't know how to remove the SQL Server Express edition. In the Programs and Features under Control Panel, I can't find the installation of SQL Server Express which is provided by OS in default. What I can see is only the SQL Sever 2008 Enterprise edi. Any suggestion?

  This question has previously been asked, but that was a year ago and I wanted to know if there had been any developments since then. Basically we'd like to use a MemCached Server on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine... which is only x64, obviously. I haven't found any details on a Win64 version of MemCached, but there is still the solution from the previous thread (which I haven't tried yet) to use a bit of software called MemCacheD Manager running MemCached 1.2.6. However, the current version of MCd is 1.4.4 and I was wondering if there had been any improvements since then.

  Hi, I am new to jasper report, I need to create pdf document with BeanDatasource and subreport. I refer the following blog " http://knol.google.com/k/jasper-reports-working-with-beans-and-sub-report# " . I followed all the steps perfectly. While i am running the report using IReport i can get the pdf document with the content.   It happens quite frequently, more times per day, that with Visual Studio 2010, during the debugging, when I used Immediate commands like: ? NamedVariable I receive the following error: 'NamedVariable' is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level. In this case also other debug features seems gone, but I can set breakpoints, step into, step over, etc. The solution is stop debugging, clean and rebuild the project, and retry. I am developing a VB.NET Windows Forms application, but it happened with VB.NET WPF projects too. I never had this behavior with VS 2008. Is this a known bug or could it be a problem of my environment/installation? Do you have any idea how to solve this little, but annoying issue?
