• How do I get Facebook Connect to alert me when people comment on my blog?

  I'm using Facebook Connect's "Comments Box" (http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Comments_Box) to handle comments on my blog. However, there doesn't appear to be an easy way to find out when people comment - ideally I'd like to receive an email whenever it happens, but I'd settle for an RSS feed or similar. Is there an easy way to set this up? Officially as an admin you can enable "notifications" but these are just the passive things that show up when you log on to Facebook itself - I rarely do this, and anyway it doesn't seem to work for anonymous comments.

• Checked equivalent to IllegalArgumentException?

  I have a method that takes an enum as a parameter and returns some information dependent on that parameter. However, that enum contains some values which should not be handled, and should raise an error condition. Currently the method throws an IllegalArgumentException but I would like this to be a checked exception to force callers to catch it (and return gracefully, logging an error). Is there something suitable or should I create my own Exception subclass? I'm open to other patterns as well. A reasonable reaction would be that all values of the enum should be handled, but that isn't the case. When a new value is added to the enum, I want to make sure that this method does the right thing - alerting a human is preferable to using some default return value in this case. Thanks for any advice.

• MySQL Dynamicly determine the tabel to use with inner join

  He guys, I'm stuck with a problem and I hope someone can help me out. I have a date. For example 2009-10-1. This date is used to check in which season I am working. This could be summer or winter. If whe are in the summer the table to use for my inner join whould be 'summer09_rooms'. If winter 'winter09_rooms'. So I basicly whant to do a CASE WHEN in my INNER JOIN. How to accomplish this. The query would look like this: SELECT name, arrival_date, departure_date FROM holliday a INNER JOIN ( CASE when arrival_date BETWEEN 2009-10-1 AND 2009-4-1 THEN summer09_rooms b ELSE winter09_rooms b END ) ON a.dossier=b.dossier Of course this query isn't working but now I hope you'l see what I want to accomplish.   I'm using the Drupal Quiz module, and have setup some basic quizzes and stuff like that. However some further customization is required, involving more than 1 question per page, and a multi-type answer in this type of format: Question 1: Describe 4 things you did last summer a) [ short answer space - text field ] b) "I wept" c) "My whole family died so I learned self reliance" d) "I got another xbox" Question 2: Describe 2 things you hate about yourself a) "My arms are way shorter than my legs" b) "I was born without human emotion" So I guess in two parts, how to show multiple questions per page, and then how to allow multiple text fields for answers. Oh and this quiz is not graded, it's like a self assessment. Thanks!

• Export and Import MS Access table defenitions as text files

  How can I export/import MS Access table definitions as text files (in a human readable format like I can with Forms or Reports)? I know how I can export the whole table out into CSV file; however: I don't need the data to go (actually really rather that it didn't) When I import a CSV file (especially without data) there's no guarantee that the data types will be the same as my original database. I'm hoping to store my table definitions in a SVN repository. I don't want to have to house any import specifications in the destination database.

• Understanding a skelton of jQuery plugin

  At a website, I found the following code to make a jQuery plugin: (function($){ // Our code here... })(jQuery); I don't understand how the code above works. What I understand is that the code executes immediately because the very last () in function(){}(). So the entire code says that is an anonymous function that is run immediately. But I don't understand why the wrapping needs to pass jQuery and that inside it needs $ to be passed. From my understanding, $ is an alias to jQuery, meaning practically the same. What is the meaning of $ and jQuery here? How does the overall code work as a jQuery plugin?

  I'm trying to use Linq to SQL to return an IQueryable(of Project) when using foreign key relationships. Using the below schema, I want to be able to pass in a UserId and get all the projects created for the company the user is associated with. DB tables: Projects Projid ProjCreator FK (UserId from UserInfo table) Companyid FK (CompanyID from Companies table) UserInfo UserID PK Companyid FK Companies CompanyId PK Description I can get the iqueryable(of project) when simply getting the ProjectCreator with this: Return (From p In db.Projects _ Where p.ProjectCreator = Me.UserId) But I'm having trouble getting the syntax to get a iqueryable(of projects) when using foreign keys. • Binding multiple arrays for WHERE IN in PostgreSQL

  So I want to prepare a query something like: SELECT id FROM users WHERE (branch, cid) IN $1; But I then need to bind a variable length list of arrays like (('a','b'),('c','d')) to it. How do I go about doing this? I've tried using ANY but can't seem to get the syntax right. Cheers, Alec Edit: After some fiddling around, this is valid syntactically: SELECT id FROM users WHERE (branch, cid) = ANY ($1::text[][]); and then binding the string '{{a,b},{c,d}}' to $1 but throws the error "operator does not exist: record = text". Changing 'text' to 'record' then throws "input of anonymous composite types is not implemented". Any ideas?

Our options: Use NHibernate to support Multiple databases and use of OO. But we concern related to NHibernate learning curve and any problem we faced. Make a generalized DAL which will continue working with Oracle using stored procedures and use tools to convert it to other databases such as SQL Server or MySql. There is a risk associated with having to support multiple database-dependent versions of a single script. Provide the software as a Service (SaaS) and maintain the way we conduct business. However there can may be clients who do not want or trust the Cloud or other SaaS business models. With this in mind, what's the best Data access layer technique?

  I am currently doing LINQ-to-XML and populating a DataGridView with my query just fine. The trouble I am running into is that once loaded into the DataGridView, the values appear to be Un-editable (ReadOnly). • Is it possible to use Integrated Windows Auth when Server isn't on the domain?

  Our production web servers ARE NOT part of the domain, but we'd like people to be able to log in automatically since they are logged into the domain on their PC. Is there anyway to get the browser (IE7+) to send the appropriate information to the server (IIS6) so I can retrieve the ServerVariables["AUTH_USER"] or ServerVariables["LOGON_USER"]? I presume the answer is no since if I set the security for windows auth to "on" and anonymous access to "off", then the server wouldn't know what do do with any user information for a domain which it has no knowledge of. I just want to know for sure before I give the SSO team a "not possible" answer.

  I am creating an ASP.Net MVC website that I am launching soon in private beta. What I am using. ASP.NET MVC 2 ASP.NET Sql Membership Provider Authorization Attributes on ActionMethods. ex. [EditorsOnly] What I am trying to accomplish: During the private Beta period of my website, I want no anonymous users to access my site. Only Beta Testers of my site should be able to login and use my site as normal. After the private beta period people can access it using the security structure I already have set up. I am hoping I do not have to recompile but can have a setting in the webconfig to switch between Private Beta mode to Normal mode. Thanks for your suggestions.

  I have a list representing products which are more or less the same. For instance, in the list below, they are all Seagate hard drives. We could go a little bit further and suppose that the products 1, 3, 4 and 5 are the same and put in other categories the product 2 and 6. We have a huge list of products that I would like to classify. Does anybody have an idea of what would be the best algorithm to do such thing. Any suggestions? I though of a Bayesian classifier but I am not sure if it is the best choice. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

• Is there a Tool for see files created with binary serialization?

  I've working without problems serializating object graphs to and from files. Everything was fine until today: A dictionary, created in a constructor and NEVER deleted, was lost (null referece) just after deserialization from file, for the first time in more than a year doing the same without troubles. So, is there a Software Tool to look into binary serialization content showing a human/developer-readable version (a la Reflector) of what is stored? AKA: How to analyze (easy, no binary to IL translation. That would take months) binary serialized content? Thanks!

  greetings all um using spring security 3.0.2,all the application pages are secured to see them you must be authenticated um using https protocol i have a strange problem that after successful login and got to the requested page when try to open any link to other pages in the application the session is invalidated or lost or what happened i don't know and the user become anonymous,and redirected to the login page and i got this from debugging: No HttpSession currently exists No SecurityContext was available from the HttpSession: null. A new one will be created. after reviewing the coe many times,nothing in the code is invalidating the session,any ideas why something like this might happen?

• Automatically minifying attribute/element names when using XmlSerializer

  When serializing a C# class using XmlSerializer, the attributes/elements representing the properties of the class will have the same names as they do in the source code. I know you can override this by doing like so: [XmlAttribute("num")] public int NumberOfThingsThatAbcXyz { get; set; } I'd like the generated XML for my classes to be as compact as possible, but obviously still capable of being automatically deserialized on the other side. Is there a way to have these names minified as much as possible without having to manually think of and annotate everything with a short string? The resultant XML being easily human readable isn't a concern.

  If you've ever used Reflector, you probably noticed that the C# compiler generates types, methods, fields, and local variables, that deserve 'special' display by the debugger. For instance, local variables beginning with 'CS$' are not displayed to the user. There are other special naming conventions for closure types of anonymous methods, backing fields of automatic properties, and so on. My question: where to learn about these naming conventions? • Selecting keys based on metadata, possible with Amazon S3?

  I'm sending files to my S3 bucket that are basically gzipped database dumps. They keys are a human readable date ("2010-05-04.dump"), and along with that, I'm setting a metadata field to the UNIX time of the dump. I want to write a script that retrieve the latest dump from the bucket. That is to say I want the the key with the largest unix time metadata value. • Recommended way to make animation in Android

  I've searched around the web to learn more about animating a character in Android but didn't fully understood it. I ask here maybe you could give me some advices or hints on how to make it in the best possible way. Scenario Imagine 5 drawn characters (let's say 5 human heads). I need to animate them. By animation I mean make eyes blink, smile, laugh etc. Right now I am working on making bitmap resources on each animation. For example for the blink animation, basically I have 3 images, one with eyes open, one with eyes half closed, one with eyes closed. I need to animate the character to use all these 3 images. This is all the animation I need, nothing more fancier. Any suggestions from where to start ?

• Lamda expression will not compile

  I am very confused I have this lamba expression tvPatientPrecriptionsEntities.Sort((p1, p2) => p1.MedicationStartDate.Value.CompareTo(p2.MedicationStartDate.Value)); Visual studio will not compile it and complains about syntax. I converted the lamba expression to an anonymous delegate as so tvPatientPrecriptionsEntities.Sort( delegate(PatientPrecriptionsEntity p1, PatientPrecriptionsEntity p2) { return p1.MedicationStartDate.Value.CompareTo(p2.MedicationStartDate.Value); } ); and it works fine. The project is uses the .net 3.5 framework and I have a reference to system.linq.
