  • CakePHP 'Cake is NOT able to connect to the database'

    I've looked at this post about a similar issue: CakePHP: Can't access MySQL database and I've tried everything they mentioned in there including: Changing my database.php so that the 'port' attribute for both $default and $test are the location of my mysqld.sock file Changing the 'port' attribute to the actual integer that represents the port in my my.cnf mysql config Changing the mysql socket locations in php.ini to the location of my mysqld.sock file I'm using ubuntu 11.04, apache 2.2.17, mysql 5.1.54, and CakePHP 1.3.10. My install of mysql and apache don't seem to match any conventions, as in, all the config files are there, they are all just in really weird places--I'm not sure why that is, but I've tried reinstalling both programs multiple times with the same results... At any rate, I can log into mysql from the terminal and use it normally, and apache is working because I can see the CakePHP default homepage. I just can't get it to change the message 'Cake is NOT able to connect to the database'. SOLVED: Figured it out, had to change php.ini so that extension_dir pointed to the correct directory and had to add a line extension=mysql.so.

  • How to perform duplicate key validation using entlib (or DataAnnotations), MVC, and Repository pattern

    I have a set of ASP.NET 4 projects that culminate in an MVC (3 RC2) app. The solution uses Unity and EntLib Validation for cross-cutting dependency injection and validation. Both are working great for injecting repository and service layer implementations. However, I can't figure out how to do duplicate key validation. For example, when a user registers, we want to make sure they don't pick a UserID that someone else is already using. For this type of validation, the validating object must have a repository reference... or some other way to get an IQueryable / IEnumerable reference to check against other rows already in the DB. What I have is a UserMetadata class that has all of the property setters and getters for a user, along with all of the appropriate DataAnnotations and EntLib Validation attributes. There is also a UserEntity class implemented using EF4 POCO Entity Generator templates. The UserEntity depends on UserMetadata, because it has a MetadataTypeAttribute. I also have a UserViewModel class that has the same exact MetadataType attribute. This way, I can apply the same validation rules, via attributes, to both the entity and viewmodel. There are no concrete references to the Repository classes whatsoever. All repositories are injected using Unity. There is also a service layer that gets dependency injection. In the MVC project, service layer implementation classes are injected into the Controller classes (the controller classes only contain service layer interface references). Unity then injects the Repository implementations into the service layer classes (service classes also only contain interface references). I've experimented with the DataAnnotations CustomValidationAttribute in the metadata class. The problem with this is the validation method must be static, and the method cannot instantiate a repository implementation directly. My repository interface is IRepository, and I have only one single repository implementation class defined as EntityRepository for all domain objects. To instantiate a repository explicitly I would need to say new EntityRepository(), which would result in a circular dependency graph: UserMetadata [depends on] DuplicateUserIDValidator [depends on] UserEntity [depends on] UserMetadata. I've also tried creating a custom EntLib Validator along with a custom validation attribute. Here I don't have the same problem with a static method. I think I could get this to work if I could just figure out how to make Unity inject my EntityRepository into the validator class... which I can't. Right now, all of the validation code is in my Metadata class library, since that's where the custom validation attribute would go. Any ideas on how to perform validations that need to check against the current repository state? Can Unity be used to inject a dependency into a lower-layer class library?

  • How to preserve struct member identifiers when compiling to LLVM IR with Clang?

    Say I have the following C structure definition: struct stringStructure { char *stringVariable; }; For the above, Clang produces the following LLVM IR: %struct.stringStructure = type { i8* } ...which includes everything in my definition except the variable identifier stringVariable. I'd like to find some way to export the identifier into the generated LLVM IR, so that I can refer to it by name from my application (which uses the LLVM C++ API). I've tried adding the annotate attribute, as follows: char *stringVariable __attribute__((annotate("stringVariable"))); ...but the annotation doesn't seem to make it through (the structure is still just defined as type { i8* }). Any ideas?

  • CORE DATA objectId changes constantly

    Hello, I have some data that I export into an XML file and put in a remote FTP Server. I have to identified each object with a unique attribute, it doesn't matter wich is, but must be persistent always = it can never change. I don't want to create a unique attribute, sequence, serial, etc. I'm using the objectID but every time I use it a get a new reference. I know that before the object has been saved, it has a 'temporal id', but once it's saved, it gets the definitive. I'm not seeing this, never.   • Why is the C# SerializedAttribute is sealed?

    I was trying to create an attribute that implies [Serializable] but I noticed that this SerializableAttribute class is sealed. In Java it was possible to create an interface (say, MyInterface) that is inherited from Serializable interface and so all the subclasses of MyInterface would also be serializable, even its sub-sub classes would be so. Let's say I am creating an ORM and I want customers to annotate their entity classes as [DatabaseEntity] but in order to make sure that entities are serializable, I also need to ask them to attribute their classes with extra [Serializable] which does not look quite compact and neat. I am wondering why SerializableAttribute class is sealed and why has Inherited=false which implies that subclasses of serializable class will not be serializable unless it is explicitly stated. What motives are behind these design choices?

    Hello, I'm currently dealing with customs messages Beans in Java. After filling in the Beans with different values, I want to produce an EDIFACT CUSDEC message corresponding to each message. For each attribute of a message Bean, I have the information to put the attribute in the right place in EDIFACT CUSEDC format. Thus, I am looking for a free tool (a Java API) which could ideally convert my full-filled Bean into an EDIFACT CUSDEC message.     When I bind a function to a checkbox element like: $("#myCheckbox").click( function() { alert($(this).is(":checked")); }); The checkbox changes it checked attribute before the event is triggered, it's it normal behavior, thus giving and inverse result. However, when I do: $("#myCheckbox").click(); The checkbox changes it checked attribute after the event is triggered. My question is, is there a way to trigger the click event from jquery like a normal click would do (first scenario)? PS: I've already tried with trigger('click');

  • Hide public method used to help test a .NET assembly

    I have a .NET assembly, to be released. Its release build includes: A public, documented API of methods which people are supposed to use A public but undocumented API of other methods, which exist only in order to help test the assembly, and which people are not supposed to use The assembly to be released is a custom control, not an application. To regression-test it, I run it in a testing framework/application, which uses (in addition to the public/documented API) some advanced/undocumented methods which are exported from the control. For the public methods which I don't want people to use, I excluded them from the documentation using the <exclude> tag (supported by the Sandcastle Help File Builder), and the [EditorBrowsable] attribute, for example like this: /// <summary> /// Gets a <see cref="IEditorTransaction"/> instance, which helps /// to combine several DOM edits into a single transaction, which /// can be undone and redone as if they were a single, atomic operation. /// </summary> /// <returns>A <see cref="IEditorTransaction"/> instance.</returns> IEditorTransaction createEditorTransaction(); /// <exclude/> [EditorBrowsable(EditorBrowsableState.Never)] void debugDumpBlocks(TextWriter output); This successfully removes the method from the API documentation, and from Intellisense. Hopefully that wasn't thoroughly confusing! The code may be more self-explanatory than that. I believe that what I've implemented here is a closure, but JSLint complains: http://img.skitch.com/20100526-k1trfr6tpj64iamm8r4jf5rbru.png So, my questions are: How can I refactor this code to make JSLint agreeable? Or, better yet, is there a best-practices way to do this that I'm missing, regardless of what JSLint thinks? Should I rely on event delegation instead? I've done that once before and understand the theory, but I'm very hazy on the details, and would appreciate some guidance on what that would look like - assuming this is a viable approach.   • firefox object height ignored when data

    I have a flash video loading in a modal window. It works in others browsers but not Firefox. Firefox opens the modal window to the correct width of the object, but with no height. I have come to learn that Firefox does not recognize <param> and instead uses the data attribute. However, when I remove this attribute, the modal opens with correct height. What is going on?   • How does Model binding with a selectlist work?

    Hi, I'm having problems retrieving the values of a selectlist in my form collection. I've tried making a viewmodel with an attribute with the same name as the select list. I'm honestly just realizing I REALLY don't understand how model binding works with selectlists. I've just been assuming that the following conventions apply: Name the select list the same thing as the attribute on the model you want it to bind to. Apart from that, I really don't get it. I've looked at several books on it and they're useless frankly. How does a select list work with a) form collection and b) a particular model?

  • How would you implement the "tell don't ask" principle in HAML?

    Here's the thing. I have a button that, depending on the scenario, will behave, look and have different text. Here's how it, roughly, looks like at the moment: - if params[:param_A] && @statement_A %span.button.cancel_button{attribute: "value_B"} - if @statement_B = t('locale_A') - else = t('locale_B') - elsif params[:param_A] %span.button.cancel_button{attribute: "value_A"} - if @statement_B = t('locale_A') - else = t('locale_B') There's also a CSS class both buttons should have IF statement_B is true. So it is a mess. And I recently read about the "Tell, don't ask" principle which I liked very much, so I'd love to apply it here... but I'm not sure how. I know I could make a helper, but I'd like to stay away from them because reasons (I really have some valid reasons to do so, but those are beyond the scope of this question). I can resort to that as a last resource, but would rather find another solution.

  • selenium cannot find element with class in IE

    I'm using selenium_client with cucumber, webrat + IE As you'd expect, Firefox works fine. I've tried the following: selenium.is_visible("css=#flash .flash_notice") selenium.is_visible("xpath=//*[@id='flash']/*[@class='flash_notice]") selenium.is_visible("xpath=//*[@id='flash']/*[contains(@class,'flash_notice]')") both cannot find the element. I think it must be something to do with IE, looking closer at the html selenium returns from IE... It looks like this: <UL id=flash> <LI className=flash_notice>Deleted</LI> </UL> Notice IE returns the class attribute as className, is this confusing selenium? How can I get round this so that I can use the same statement for selenium using IE and Firefox Just to confuse us even more, this example works, confirming its something to do with checking the class attribute selenium.is_visible("xpath=//*[@id='flash']/*[. =\'Deleted\']")

  • LDAP in medium trust

    I've have a solution with one website and several projects. The projects all have the AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers attribute and are strongly-named. The site works in full trust. However, after set the trust to medium, I get the System.Security.SecurityException: Request failed. error as soon as I browse to the site. In my projects, I have calls to LogOnUser, as well as many calls to variousSystem.DirectoryServices.AccountManagement methods. Can this site run with medium trust or do I have to have full trust for all the LDAP calls? As I mentioned, I've set the AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers attribute on all projects. Not sure what else to do. Also, I have no idea what/where the error is being generated. The event logs on the server have nothing in regards to this SecurityException. Is there any way to find out what the error location is so maybe I can attempt to rewrite some code? [running .NET 4.0 on Win2k8R2]

    Hello everyone I have an UIAlertView with a textfield that shows a default value and two buttons, one to cancel and the other one to confirm.   • Is there a way to allow a property of a user control to be modified only during design time?

    I've looked into the DesignOnly attribute, but that doesn't seem to accomplish what I want*. Basically, I'm looking for some way to indicate that some property of a user control (let's say Text) can be modified during design time -- i.e., from the Windows Forms designer in VS (or presumably from any GUI designer that can be used to modify a Windows Forms GUI) -- but not during run time. Once the application is running, the property should effectively be readonly. Is this possible? * When I add the DesignOnly attribute to a property, the value I select for that property from design mode doesn't seem to stick; the property just ends up being whatever I have it set to by default in code.

  • Non-string role names in ASP.NET MVC?

    ASP.NET MVC has good support for role-based security, but the usage of strings as role names is maddening, simply because they cannot be strongly-typed as enumerations. For example, I have an "Admin" role in my app. The "Admin" string will now exist in the Authorize attribute of my action, in my master page (for hiding a tab), in my database (for defining the roles available to each user), and any other place in my code or view files where I need to perform special logic for admin or non-admin users. Is there a better solution, short of writing my own authorization attribute and filter, that would perhaps deal with a collection of enumeration values?

    I have a button (outside of a form) that redirects to another page using the onclick attribute that calls window.location to redirect the user to another page. This time I can't change the HTML. I am using Safari 4 for testing. How can I click a button that uses the onclick attribute and window.location to redirect using Safari 4 and Selenium RC PHPUnit Extension? Here's my HTML: <input type="button" onclick="window.location='/registrations/new'" value="Start a new registration" id="create"> Update: Alternatively, I'm thinking about doing something where I assert that a location is specified in the window.location='', store that location, and call the open() command using that location. Not sure if this is an acceptable approach to testing this.

  • How do I create multiple submit buttons for the same form in Rails?

    I need to have multiple submit buttons. I have a form which creates an instance of Contact_Call. One button creates it as normal. The other button creates it but needs to have a different :attribute value from the default, and it also needs to set the attribute on a different, but related model used in the controller. How do I do that? I can't change the route, so is there a way to send a different variable that gets picked up by [:params]? And if I do then, what do I do in the controller, set up a case statement?

    Hello, I am writing my first shader in WebGL. I was wondering if the GLSL language has any way to evaluate if an attribute or a uniform is null. According to the specs it does not support to do something like if (attributeX) { dothis(); } else{ dothat(): } And I think it would be a waste to write a bool attribute for each of these cases would be a waste. Another question: what happen during rendering when you don't pass along the uniforms or attribs to the shader? Thanks!
