  • overriding big popup on directions Google Maps

    - by Glycerine
I've happily implemented v2 of Google maps to my site without a hitch, I also successfully perform a drive directions using GDirections.load(). What I need to do is stop the popup of the mini map when you select a particular step in the routing directions. So when the user clicks on say "step 3", instead of the default popup showing a mini map, I'd like to add a custom icon to that position. Hope it makes sense Thanks in advance guys.

  • C# vs C - Big performance difference

    - by John
I'm finding massive performance differences between similar code in C anc C#. The C code is: #include <stdio.h> #include <time.h> #include <math.h> main() { int i; double root; clock_t start = clock(); for (i = 0 ; i <= 100000000; i++){ root = sqrt(i); } printf("Time elapsed: %f\n", ((double)clock() - start) / CLOCKS_PER_SEC); } And the C# (console app) is: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Text; namespace ConsoleApplication2 { class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { DateTime startTime = DateTime. Now; double root; for (int i = 0; i <= 100000000; i++) { root = Math.Sqrt(i); } TimeSpan runTime = DateTime. Now - startTime; Console.WriteLine("Time elapsed: " + Convert.ToString(runTime.TotalMilliseconds/1000)); } } } With the above code, the C# completes in 0.328125 seconds (release version) and the C takes 11.14 seconds to run. The c is being compiled to a windows executable using mingw. I've always been under the assumption that C/C++ were faster or at least comparable to C#.net. What exactly is causing the C to run over 30 times slower? EDIT: It does appear that the C# optimizer was removing the root as it wasn't being used. I changed the root assignment to root += and printed out the total at the end. I've also compiled the C using cl.exe with the /O2 flag set for max speed. The results are now: 3.75 seconds for the C 2.61 seconds for the C# The C is still taking longer, but this is acceptable

  • ActionScript Tweening Matrix Transform (big problem)

    - by TheDarkIn1978
i'm attempting to tween the position and angle of a sprite. if i call the functions without tweening, to appear in one step, it's properly set at the correct coordinates and angle. however, tweening it makes it all go crazy. i'm using an rotateAroundInternalPoint matrix, and assume tweening this along with coordinate positions is messing up the results. works fine (without tweening): public function curl():void { imageWidth = 400; imageHeight = 600; parameters.distance = 0.5; parameters.angle = 45; backCanvas.x = imageWidth - imageHeight * parameters.distance; backCanvas.y = imageHeight - imageHeight * parameters.distance; var internalPointMatrix:Matrix = backCanvas.transform.matrix; MatrixTransformer.rotateAroundInternalPoint(internalPointMatrix, backCanvas.width * parameters.distance, 0, parameters.angle); backCanvas.transform.matrix = internalPointMatrix; } doesn't work properly (with tweening): public function curlUp():void { imageWidth = 400; imageHeight = 600; parameters.distance = 0.5; parameters.angle = 45; distanceTween = new Tween(parameters, "distance", None.easeNone, 0, distance, 1, true); angleTween = new Tween(parameters, "angle", None.easeNone, 0, angle, 1, true); angleTween.addEventListener(TweenEvent.MOTION_CHANGE, animateCurl); } private function animateCurl(evt:TweenEvent):void { backCanvas.x = imageWidth - imageHeight * parameters.distance; backCanvas.y = imageHeight - imageHeight * parameters.distance; var internalPointMatrix:Matrix = backCanvas.transform.matrix; MatrixTransformer.rotateAroundInternalPoint(internalPointMatrix, backCanvas.width * parameters.distance, 0, parameters.angle - previousAngle); backCanvas.transform.matrix = internalPointMatrix; previousAngle = parameters.angle; } in order for the angle to tween properly, i had to add a variable that would track it's last angle setting and subtract it from the new one. however, i still can not get this tween to return the same end position and angle as is without tweening. i've been stuck on this problem for a day now, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Enterprise Service Bus (ESB): Important architectural piece to a SOA or is it just vendor hype?

Is an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) an important architectural piece to a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), or is it just vendor hype in order to sell a particular product such as SOA-in-a-box? According to IBM.com, an ESB is a flexible connectivity infrastructure for integrating applications and services; it offers a flexible and manageable approach to service-oriented architecture implementation. With this being said, it is my personal belief that ESBs are an important architectural piece to any SOA. Additionally, generic design patterns have been created around the integration of web services in to ESB regardless of any vendor. ESB design patterns, according to Philip Hartman, can be classified in to the following categories: Interaction Patterns: Enable service interaction points to send and/or receive messages from the bus Mediation Patterns: Enable the altering of message exchanges Deployment Patterns: Support solution deployment into a federated infrastructure Examples of Interaction Patterns: One-Way Message Synchronous Interaction Asynchronous Interaction Asynchronous Interaction with Timeout Asynchronous Interaction with a Notification Timer One Request, Multiple Responses One Request, One of Two Possible Responses One Request, a Mandatory Response, and an Optional Response Partial Processing Multiple Application Interactions Benefits of the Mediation Pattern: Mediator promotes loose coupling by keeping objects from referring to each other explicitly, and it lets you vary their interaction independently Design an intermediary to decouple many peers Promote the many-to-many relationships between interacting peers to “full object status” Examples of Interaction Patterns: Global ESB: Services share a single namespace and all service providers are visible to every service requester across an entire network Directly Connected ESB: Global service registry that enables independent ESB installations to be visible Brokered ESB: Bridges services that are reluctant to expose requesters or providers to ESBs in other domains Federated ESB: Service consumers and providers connect to the master or to a dependent ESB to access services throughout the network References: Mediator Design Pattern. • What is the aim of this email? Is this a ping/sping? [closed]

Hi, I received this spam in my catch-all. As a webmaster of the domain it was sent to, I am really curious what the reason for this mail is. It was sent to a non-existent user "tania" on my domain - here I used mydomain.zzz - what do the sender want to achieve? Since many mail servers have stopped backscattering, not getting a bounce would not mean anything, would it? And if this is off topic, where inb the StackExchange WOULD it be on topic? • Conditional formatting

    - by djerry
I have a rather annoying format I need to implement. There are 2 cells, both containing a date (cell A and B). B contains a date (24-06-2011). Cell B should be colored if cell A is between a date range, based on cell B. So if cell A lies between cell B - 7 days and cell B - 11 days, then it should be triggered. So with numbers: If B is 24-06-2011 then the range (which is not in any cell in the spreadsheet) is 13-06-2011 until 17-06-2011. If the date in cell A (let's say 14-06-2011) is in that range, cell B should be colored. Any ideas?

  • Testing a (big) collection retrieved from a db

    - by Bas
I'm currently doing integration testing on a live database and I have the following sql statement: var date = DateTime.Parse("01-01-2010 20:30:00"); var result = datacontext.Repository<IObject>().Where(r => r.DateTime > date).First(); Assert.IsFalse(result.Finished); I need to test if the results retrieved from the statement, where the given date is less then the date of the object, have Finished set to False. I do not know how many results I get back and currently I'm getting the first object of the list and check if that object has Finished set to false. I know testing only the first item of the list is not valid testing, as a solution for that I could iterate through the list and check all items on Finished, but putting logic in a Test is kinda going against the concept of writing 'good' tests. So my question is: Does anyone have a good solution of how to properly test the results of this list?

  • Big problems on iPhone ad hoc build -

    - by phil swenson
No matter what I do I can't get my ad hoc provisioning profile to work. In Organizer, I always get "A valid signing identity matching this profile cannot be found in your keychain" for my adhoc profile. I have my distribution cert installed in my login keychain. I dragged the adhoc mobileprovision file to XCode... that's pretty much all there is to it, right? I searched around and found suggestions like re-creating the cert/profile. Did that, same thing. Also make sure your login keychain is default. It is. Even tried a different computer. Same result. In XCode AdHoc target I don't have a distribution target to pick. This all used to work, but obviously I messed something up..... Perhaps my process is just wrong (it's been months since I did this). Does someone have a step by step list of how to set up for adhoc distribution?

  • MS Access antiquated? Anything new in 2011?

    - by Heidi
Our company has a database of 17,000 entries. We have used MS Access for over 10 years for our various mailings. Is there something new and better out there? I'm not a techie, so keep in mind when answering. Our problems with Access are: -no record of what was deleted, -will not turn up a name in a search if cap's or punctuation is not entered exactly, -is complicated for us to understand the de-duping process. - We'd like a more nimble program that we can access from more than one dedicated computer.

  • Why is a .net generic dictionary so big

    - by thefroatgt
I am serializing a generic dictionary in VB.net and I am very surprised that it is about 1.3kb with a single item. Am I doing something wrong, or is there something else I should be doing? I have a large number of dictionaries and it is killing me to send them all across the wire. The code I use for serialization is Dim dictionary As New Dictionary(Of Integer, Integer) Dim stream As New MemoryStream Dim bformatter As New BinaryFormatter() dictionary.Add(1, 1) bformatter.Serialize(stream, dictionary) Dim len As Long = stream.Length

  • jQuery: show an element from select drop down, hide it when other option selected

    - by Ricardo Zea
I've tried looking around and there are similar problems, but mine is way more simple, but yet, I can't find a solution within these forums. While learning jQuery, I'm trying to show a DIV when an item/option from a select drop down is selected, and hide that same DIV when any other option in the select drop down is selected. select HTML: <select name="source" id="source"> <option value="null" selected="selected">&mdash;Select&mdash;</option> <option value="s1">Source 1</option> <option value="s2">Source 2</option> <option value="sother">Other</option> </select> DIV I need to show when 'Other' is selected: <div id="specify-source">Other source here...</div> When any other option in the select menu is selected, the above DIV shouldn't be visible. I've tried this jQuery but of course it doesn't work properly: $(function() { $.viewMap = { 'sother' : $('#specify-source') }; $('#source').change(function() { // hide all $.each($.viewMap, function() { this.hide(); }); // show current $.viewMap[$(this).val()].show(); }); }); Any help you can give me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks,

  • Big, Thick Reference Books (PHP / MySQL / Unix) [closed]

    - by Josh K
I'm looking for in-depth reference books / guides in PHP, MySQL, and Unix. I'm aware there other other questions pertaining to good books for short references of function names, or detailed beginner guides to these systems. I'm looking for something different. I want a book that I can either use as a quick but in-depth (decent write up, not a pocket reference guide) reference to common functions (JOINS, string manipulation, Regular Expressions, etc) while also providing a detailed inner workings explanation on the system itself.

  • [PHP] - Lowering script memory usage in a "big" file creation

    - by Riccardo
Hi there people, it looks like I'm facing a typical memory outage problem when using a PHP script. The script, originally developed by another person, serves as an XML sitemap creator, and on large websites uses quite a lot of memory. I thought that the problem was related due to an algorithm holding data in memory until the job was done, but digging into the code I have discovered that the script works in this way: open file in output (will contain XML sitemap entries) in the loop: ---- for each entry to be added in sitemap, do fwrite close file end Although there are no huge arrays or variables being kept in memory, this technique uses a lot of memory. I thought that maybe PHP was buffering under the hood the fwrites and "flushing" data at the end of the script, so I have modified the code to close and open the file every Nth record, but the memory usage is still the same.... I'm debugging the script on my computer and watching memory usage: while script execution runs, memory allocation grows. Is there a particular technique to instruct PHP to free unsed memory, to force flushing buffers if any? Thanks

  • Subversion version 'difference' a big deal?

    - by CmdrTallen
Greetings, using VS2008 and VisualSVN and seems the VisualSVN folks are religious about updating the client (and their VisualSVN server) to the latest Subversion release. My question is my subversion server is a hosted server and seems to always lag several versions behind the client I use. Should I be concerned about this version "mis-match"? Is there a general rule of thumb about when it is a point to be concerned (like an entire major release behind)? Any sort of mechanism build into either the client, the server or the protocol that prevents something horrible from happening between badly 'paired' clients and servers?
