    I can see how a cipher can be developed using substitutions and keys, and how those two things can become more and more complex, thus offering some protection from decryption through brute-force approaches. But specifically I'm wondering: what other major concepts beyond substitution and key are involved? is the protection/secrecy of the key a greater vulnerability than the strength of the encryption? why does encryption still hold up when the key is 'public' ? are performance considerations a major obstacle to the development of more secure encryption?

    I am working on an application which has got some sensitive information. I am aware that it would be difficult for a layman to hack into iphone to get the information. If I use SQLite directly I have something called SQLite Cipher to encrypt / encode the database. Is there anyway where I can have the same way of encrypting the coredata so it makes it hard for hackers to get into the data. Can someone shed some light on this? Thanks in Advance

Or do I need to do something with update? Documentation says update: Continues a multiple-part encryption or decryption operation and doFinal Encrypts or decrypts data in a single-part operation, or finishes a multiple-part operation what exactly do they mean by multiple-part encryption?

  • Trouble with site-to-site OpenVPN & pfSense not passing traffic

    I'm trying to get an OpenVPN tunnel going on pfSense 1.2.3-RELEASE running on embedded routers. I have a local LAN 10.34.43.0/254. The remote LAN is 10.200.1.0/24. The local pfSense is configured as the client, and the remote is configured as the server. My OpenVPN tunnel is using the IP range 10.99.89.0/24 internally. There are also some additional LANs on the remote side routed through the tunnel, but the issue is not with those since my connectivity fails before that point in the chain. The tunnel comes up fine and the logs look healthy. What I find is this:- I can ping and telnet to the remote LAN and the additional remote LANs from the local pfSense box's shell. I cannot ping or telnet to any remote LANs from the local network. I cannot ping or telnet to the local network from the remote LAN or the remote pfSense box's shell. If I tcpdump the tun interfaces on both sides and ping from the local LAN, I see the packets hit the tunnel locally, but they do not appear on the remote side (nor do they appear on the remote LAN interface if I tcpdump that). If I tcpdump the tun interfaces on both sides and ping from the local pfSense shell, I see the packets hit the tunnel locally, and exit the remote side. I can also tcpdump the remote LAN interface and see them pass there too. If I tcpdump the tun interfaces on both sides and ping from the remote pfSense shell, I see the packets hit the remote tun but they do not emerge from the local one.   • Paragraph formatting in a WPF RichTextBox?

    I need to apply paragraph formatting to a selection in a rich text box. My RTB will behave the same way as the rich text boxes on StackOverflow--the user can type text into the RTB, but they can also enter code blocks. The RTB will apply very simple formatting to the code block--it will change the font and apply a background color to the entire block, similar to what you see in the code block below. Changing the font is pretty straightforward: var textRange = new TextRange(rtb.Selection.Start, rtb.Selection.End); textRange.ApplyPropertyValue(TextElement.FontFamilyProperty, "Consolas"); textRange.ApplyPropertyValue(TextElement.FontSizeProperty, 10D ); Now I need to apply some paragraph-level formatting. I need to set the paragraph margin to 0, so I don't get a blank line between code lines, and I need to set the paragraph background color. Here's my problem: I can't figure out how to get the paragraph elements from the selection, so that I can apply formatting. Any suggestions? An example of how to apply the Margin and Background properties would be incredibly helpful. Thanks!

  • How do you load and save content from a Silverlight 4 RichTextBox control?

    I've been reviewing the features of the RichTextBox control in Silverlight 4. What I've yet to find is any examples of Loading and Saving content in the RichTextBox. Anyone come across any or can shed some light on it? The control has a BlocksCollection in which I guess one could use the XamlReader to load a bunch of markup assuming that markup has a single top level node of type Block. Then add that block to the Blocks collection. Seems a shame that the RichTextBox bothers to have a "collection" in this case, why not simply a top-level Block item? Never-the-less that still leaves saving the content of a RichTextBox, I have no idea where to begin with that one? I'm sure I must be missing the obvious here but unless loading and saving data in to and from RichTextBox is at least possible if not easy I can't see how we can actually put it to use. Edit Thanks to DaveB's answer I found discussion of something called the DocumentPersister. However no reference to this class can be found in the MSDN documentation nor can I find it in the installed dlls via object browser search. Anyone, anyone at all?

I have the following operation contract: public double DivideByZero(int x, int y) { if (y == 0) { throw new FaultException<ArgumentException> (new ArgumentException("Just some dummy exception") ,new FaultReason("some very bogus reason"), new FaultCode("007")); } return x / y; } And following is taken from the client:- Console.WriteLine("Enter the x value"); string x = Console.ReadLine(); Console.WriteLine("Enter the Y value"); string y = Console.ReadLine(); try { double val = client.DivideByZero(Convert.ToInt32(x), Convert.ToInt32(y)); Console.WriteLine("The result is " + val.ToString()); } catch(FaultException<ArgumentException> exp) { Console.WriteLine("An ArgumentException was thrown by the service "+ exp.ToString()); } catch (Exception exp) { Console.WriteLine(exp.ToString()); } In the above case catch(FaultException exp) (the first catch block with ArgumentException in the client code) block does not get executed. However, when I remove ArgumentException to have catch(FaultException exp), the same catch block gets executed. I am not sure about this as I am throwing FaultException from my operation contract.     I have a Winforms app that consumes a C# Webservice. If the WebService throws an Exception my Client app always get's a SoapException instead of the "real" Exception.     Lets say we want a library of javascript-based pieces of functionality (I'm thinking jquery): For example: an ajax dialog a date picker a form validator a sliding menu bar an accordian thingy There are four pieces of code for each: some Python, CSS, JS, & HTML. What is the best way to arrange all these pieces so that: each javascript 'module' can be neatly reused by different views the four bits of code that make up the completed function stay together the css/js/html parts appear in their correct places in the response common dependencies between modules are not repeated (eg: a javascript file in common) x-------------- It would be nice if, or is there some way to ensure that, when called from a templatetag, the templates respected the {% block %} directives. Thus one could create a single template with a block each for CSS, HTML, and JS, in a single file. Invoke that via a templatetag which is called from the template of whichever view wants it. That make any sense. Can that be done some way already? My templatetag templates seem to ignore the {% block %} directives. x-------------- There's some very relevant gasbagging about putting such media in forms here http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/topics/forms/media/ which probably apply to the form validator and date picker examples.

I'm wondering if there's a pattern for this that may accommodate this, within the framework of Jinja2. My initial thought is to create an extension, so that one can have a block for sections and end-notes, like-so: {% section "One" %} Title information goes here. {% endsection %} {% endnote "one" %} <a href="#">...</a> <script> ... </script> {% endendnote %} Then have global functions (that pass in the Jinja2 Environment): {{ table_of_contents() }} {% include ... %} {{ endnotes() }} However, while this will work for endnotes, I'd presume it requires a second pass by something for the table of contents.   • How to Disable/Enable WYSIWYG editor in Magento 1.4

    Hi When entering code in CMS static block(possible page as well) and in this code there is empty DIV tags such us: <a href="javascript:hide1(),show2(),hide3()"><div class="dropoff_button"></div></a> The DIV tags will be gone next time you open the block to edit. it will look as this <a href="javascript:hide1(),show2(),hide3()"> </a> without the div tags ...and saving again it modifies your code. I think it something to do with the 'show/hide editor'. By default it goes into the WYSIWYG editor, so when updating static block i don't see any other solution than 1."hide the editor' by clicking 'show/hide editor' 2.delete the old code from the editor 3. get code that doesn't miss the DIVs 4. Merge new code with code in 3 in some other editing software than magento 5. paste result in the magento editor, 6. Save Is this bug? What is your solution? Can i turn of WYSIWYG editor?

    I would like to align two alignment characters between two align blocks so that I can have some text in the middle of a derivation with equations maintaining the horizontal alignment. For example the following excerpt of latex using align \begin{align*} \frac{\delta \phi}{\delta x_1} = {} &\frac{9}{8}\frac{\delta_1\phi}{\delta_1x_1}-\frac{1}{8}\frac{\delta_3\phi}{\delta_3x_1} \\ & \frac{9}{8}\frac{1}{h_1}\left[\phi(x_1+h_1/2)-\phi(x_i-h_1/2)\right]-\frac{1}{8}\frac{1}{3h_1}\left[\phi(x_i+3h_1/2)-\phi(x_1-3h_1/2)\right] \end{align*} some text in the middle \begin{align*} & \frac{9}{8}\frac{1}{h_1}\left[\phi(x_1+h_1/2)-\phi(x_i-h_1/2)\right]-\frac{1}{8}\frac{1}{3h_1}\left[\phi(x_i+3h_1/2)-\phi(x_1-3h_1/2)\right] \end{align*} Ideally I would like the left of the equation in the second block to line up with that of the second equation in the first block. I could do a workaround by not having text in the middle, however, I would like this functionality. EDIT I would like to have a good amount of text between. Say three to four lines that line up as normal paragraphs. Adding text in the alignment block is the workaround I poorly alluded to.

  • COM Interop - Wait for Excel to Complete Operation

    Hello, I am doing some COM Interop work with Excel and other Office Automation Software. A Co-Worker has mentioned to me that I need to wait for these Automation Servers to become ready after issuing a command to them. I, however, cannot see the purpose of this as don't all calls block until the automation server completes the given task? For example I would normally write: Dim o as AutomationObject = AutomationServer.CreateObject(x, y, z) o.Property ' could throw COM exception!!???? My co-worker says I need to sleep after that call because the the Automation Server could still be working on creating and initializing the object. Dim o as AutomationObject = AutomationServer.CreateObject(x, y, z) Threading.Sleep(5000) ' wait for AutomationServer to "become ready" o.Property ' could still throw COM exception!!???? The problem I have with this is that the AutomationServer calls should block until the AutomationServer finishes or completes what it was working on or at the very least it should be a loop checking if "o" is nothing, but that makes no sense because once the call returns its done! My question is, Is there any benefit to Sleeping after an AutomationServer call? Is there a method to "wait" until the AutomationServer finishes (if it does not in fact block)?

  • Generic function pointers in C

    I have a function which takes a block of data and the size of the block and a function pointer as argument. Then it iterates over the data and performes a calculation on each element of the data block. The following is the essential outline of what I am doing: int myfunction(int* data, int size, int (*functionAsPointer)(int)){ //walking through the data and calculating something for (int n = 0; n < size; n++){ data[n] = (*function)(data[n]); } } The functions I am passing as arguments look something like this: int mycalculation(int input){ //doing some math with input //... return input; } This is working well, but now I need to pass an additional variable to my functionpointer. Something along the lines int mynewcalculation(int input, int someVariable){ //e.g. input = input * someVariable; //... return input; } Is there an elegant way to achieve this and at the same time keeping my overall design idea?

  • Allowing user to edit only the page content and some custom fields in wordpress

    This is the site: http://www.backpackers.rs Using "User Role Editor" i have user group that can only read and edit published pages so i can have as many users as i want in that user group and they all will have only one published page on their own so they can edit only that page. Now, this is how a user in that user group currently is seeing "edit page" page: http://i39.tinypic.com/rwuesh.png What i need is to disable all those things that have a red border around it + something with custom fields. So i need to disable these things for user in that user group: ability to change status of the page entire "Attributes" block is something that he/she must not see or be able to change ability to change something in "Discussion" block he/she shouldnt see "Page revisions" block i need a way to give those users ability to use only some custom fields. Currently we have 6 custom fields, and i want to give these users ability to only use 4 of those custom fields. i need to disable these users from creating new custom fields. I dont need complete answers for these things, something to get me started is really what i need. I have been reading codex a lot, but still didnt find something to help me with this, so basically any answer is more then appreciated!

    Hi there, I am trying to implement jms to my grails application. I have several JMS consumer in a spring based enviroment listining on an ActiveMQ broker. I wrote a simple test commandline client which creates messages and receives them in an request response manner. Here is the snippet that sends a MapMessage in Spring JMS way. This works for me as long I am in my spring world. final String corrID = UUID.randomUUID().toString(); asyncJmsTemplate.send("test.RequestQ", new MessageCreator() { public Message createMessage(Session session) throws JMSException { try { MapMessage msg = session.createMapMessage(); msg.setStringProperty("json", mapper.writeValueAsString(List<of some objects>)); msg.setJMSCorrelationID(corrID); msg.setJMSReplyTo(session.createQueue("test.ReplyQ")); return msg; } catch (JsonGenerationException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (JsonMappingException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (IOException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } return null; } }); BUT when I tried to implement this methods to my grails test app I receive some METHOD_DEF exceptions. Sending simple TextMessages via the jmsTemplate.convertAndSende(Queue, Message) provided by the JMS Plugin works. Can any one help me? Is this a common problem? Cheers Hans
