• Ready to Open source the software, but want to make some money out of it.

  I'm an UG Student and an Entrepreneur. I have started a small company with which I'm trying to provide solutions, to various companies in my city, through my software. I put in 30-40 hours of coding and development. I've been a huge fan of Open Source projects and I've also built by software on python. But now when it comes to selling my software to my customers, I expect money. (Am I being a Hypocrite?) Is there any OSS license under which I can make money and also make my source open? Please suggest. Or any other way to make money with my softwares? (I guess I deserve some credit. If not the code, atleast the ideas? :D )

• Building a website, wondering how to add news to it? Details inside. [closed]

  On the home page of my website, I'd like to add a "news" kind section, where I can add blogs and such. Now from my understanding if this was all done in hard coding I'd have to go into the code just to add stuff to it. I've looked at things like drupal and I get how those work, but I how would I be able to add this to my site? The same kind of concept? Also, one more thing, what does inc operating php into a website offer? like better looks or general preformence? I don't understand this. Excuse my grammar/spelling. • Duplicate pages indexed in Google

  I did a small coding mistake and Google indexed my site incorrectly. This is the correct form: https://www.foo.com/urunler/171/TENGA-CUP-DOUBLE-HOLE But Google indexed my site like this: https://www.foo.com/urunler/171/cart.aspx First I fixed the problem and made a site map with only the correct link in it. Now I checked webmaster tools and I see this: Total indexed 513 Not selected 544 Blocked by robots 0 So I think this can be caused by double indexes, and it looks like the pages not selected makes the correct pages not indexed. I want to know how to fix the "https://www.foo.com/urunler/171/cart.aspx" links. Should I fix in code or should I connect to Google to re-index my site? If I should redirect wrong/duplicate links to correct ones, how should that be done?

  Basically I have a series of logic in my website that can lead to 5 total outcomes. Basically two different if tests and then a catch all else statement. • Is JScript dying? If so, where should I go? [closed]

  I recently poked around Google for a little bit, looking for information about coding JScript. It's very sparse, which surprised me -- it took a link to a link to find Microsoft's own reference, which appears to omit most if not all references to console-based scripting that extends past Javascript. I'm working with the console here, not a webpage, so input and output seems very different than what Microsoft explains. If JScript is dying (and it appears to be so), where do I go from here? VBScript? My options are limited because the computers I'm using this on are carefully patrolled for new software. JScript's similarity to JavaScript was the biggest reason I had chosen it for porting over some of my prior work. I'm specifically looking for, at best, a console scripting language that doesn't need any extra software on Windows XP or higher, that at least supports standard input, output, pause, and file manipulation, little else.

  Having a problem with my .htaccess. I have this to secure all my documents: Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Allow from 127.0.0.1 <FilesMatch "\.(htm|html|css|js|php)$"> Order Allow,Deny Allow from all Allow from 127.0.0.1 </FilesMatch> Now everything works fine, but only my default page www.mysite.com doesn't work and gives me the notification: You don't have permission to access / on this server. what is normal accroding to my coding. • Why do I need to republish a file when I update it?

  The story is: I am coding a program and at the same time, i want to share it with my group members using ubuntu. They don't have an Ubuntu One account and what I do is to publish the file and my friends just get the link and the file. But, strangely or not, every time I upload a new version of this file (I add more code and save it), the used link seems to be "outdated" and I need to publish the same file again and to get a new link every time i modify the same file. Couldn't it be possible to save a new version of your file and the same link just "points" to the newer version?

I also know that the server will have to do certain operations that are timer based, that is to say that user will have events that will trigger at a point chosen by the user and do something. I am searching for a good choice in server-side technology, and was wondering what my options are and what the best choice is. I would prefer open technology and something that doesn't use interpreted languages (Java, .net). My first thought is PHP + PGSQL for serverside and HTML+CSS+JS for clients, but I am still looking at my options.

• Get the Windows 7 Start Menu Back in Windows 8 with Classic Shell

  I just thought I’d give readers a heads up that you can use Classic Shell to get the old Windows 7 style of start menu back instead of using the new crappy Windows 8 metro start screen; plus it’s free and open source .  You can still access the metro start screen with Shift+WindowsKey or Shift clicking the start menu button.  This program also defaults to showing the desktop on startup instead of the metro start screen (but that can be disabled), and is super configurable and has tons of options to tweak it just the way you want if you are picky like me   The only thing I would say is when installing the app, only install the Classic Start Menu; you don’t need the other ones. Often I'll try to use an existing solution such as Wordpress or Drupal. Now that I'm thinking of creating my own web application with businesses as the target group, I feel there's a need for proper analysis and design. Something lightweight for a one person project and still solid enough to handle requirements, user interfaces, security, etc. If you could recommend methodologies and literature I would be grateful.

• How can I learn to write idiomatic C++?

  I am a computer science student, and as a result, I was taught C++ as a better version of C with classes. I end up trying to reinvent the wheel whenever a solution to a complex problem is needed, only to find sometime after that, some language feature or some standard library routine could potentially have done that for me. I'm all comfortable with my char* and *(int*)(someVoidPointer) idioms, but recently, after making a (minor) contribution to an open-source project, I feel that is not how one's supposed to think when writing C++ code. It's much different than C is. Considering that I know objected-oriented programming fairly well, and I am okay with a steep learning curve, what would you suggest for me to get my mind on the C++ track when I'm coding C++?

• How to properly shield a PO from outside?

  Update: We are a very small team (3 people) and thus I (SM) and the PO are also developers doing some coding. We are aware of this situation and we are actively trying to recruit some new talents. But it's hard! Meanwhile... we need to adapt... so my question: The PO complains about having too much outside noise (mainly stakeholders feature requests), and he can't focus on the sprint realisation. We agree that we should try to educate people on our process implications (sprint durations and product backlog), to reduce the noise. But as a ScrumMaster, how am I supposed to shield a PO from outside? Isn't he supposed to be in contact with the management and business? Also, if people outside don't want to waste too much time learning agile, what is the best way to educate them?

  I just finished coding a (basic) ray tracer in C# for fun and for the learning experience. Now I want to further that learning experience. It seems to me that ray tracing is a prime candidate for parallel processing, which is something I have very little experience in. My question is this: how do I know the optimum number of concurrent processes to run? • Why don't we store the syntax tree instead of the source code?

  We have a lot of programming languages. Every language is parsed and syntax checked before translated into code so an abstract syntax tree is built. We have this abstract syntax tree, why don't we store this syntax tree instead of the source code (or next to the source code)? By using an AST instead of the source code. Every programmer in a team can serialize this tree to any language, they want (with the appropriate context free grammar) and parse back to AST when they finished. So this would eliminate the debate about the coding style questions (where to put the { and }, where to put whitespace, indentation, etc.) What are the pros and cons of this approach?

I have all the relevant skills and knowledge to complete the project, but I am concerned about getting screwed over because this is my first time working on a consultant basis. We have already agreed on an hourly wage that I'm happy with, so that's not an issue. • What steps should be taken to ensure that an open source database gets ready for production?

  I am considering using GridSQL in a production environment. However, I do have some indications that it is not ready. One is that it got excluded by the offering of EnterpriseDB a while ago, and the forums seem to report a few wrong results and relatively severe bugs. The alternatives to GridSQL, however cost around 100.000$ to buy, so I was thinking to utilize some of this money to ensure that GridSQL gets ready for production. At the same time, I could risk spending 50.000$ and months of work on the development of GridSQL, just to discover that the design was flawed and that a complete rewrite is needed. Then I would have to buy the commercial alternatives to GridSQL and the existence of my startup would be at risk. Question What steps would you take to ensure that there is as little risk as possible that the worst case scenario described above would happen? It is unrealistic that I could do much testing nor code review/coding myself (I am also not the best developer), so please describe where to find the guys that would need to do the work.
