• apache: cgi links lead to a "you have chosen to open foo.cgi", although scriptalias is set

  Following this guide on CentOS 5.2, just getting nagios set up for the first time. The main page shows up just fine, but when I try to view any of the pages that should be generated by a cgi process, firefox prompts me to save the .cgi instead, so apache's obviously not understanding that it needs to run the cgi and get back some html from it. This config file is being parsed by apache, because if I move it out of conf.d, /nagios gives a 404. The .cgi files are indeed in the /nagios/cgi-bin/ directory, so I didn't specify the incorrect directory. Searching seemed to only provide people who had difficulty with permissions, which is not the issue here. This seems to me to be a pretty basic thing, but even with the excellent apache documentation, I'm at a bit of a loss (been using cherokee too much lately :) ).

• Multilingual spellcheck on WPF richtextbox

  I need to turn spellcheck on for a richtextbox, and set the language to one the user has picked from a drop down. For now, I'm just testing it by building the richtextbox in xaml and providing a language to the xaml language attribute. I've read two different resources and one says I need to set the language attribute, and the other says I need to set the xml:lang attribute. Neither seems to work. I've tried setting either one to "es" for Spanish, and I've also tried setting both to "es". I've also tried french by setting them to "fr-FR", without success. The only thing that happens is that english words aren't marked, but the other language words are marked as misspelled. I also read that I need to change the keyboard language. This would be a problem for my application as the language within the application needs to be switched on the fly, so having the end user go to their keyboard settings just so spellcheck will work is a problem. However, I've changed my keyboard settings, and spell check still does not work properly. This time it doesn't mark anything as misspelled, even misspelled english words. What am I missing? • Grouped UITableView shows blank space when section is empty

  Hello, I have a grouped UITableView where not all sections may be displayed at once, the table is driven by some data that not every record may have. My trouble is that the records that don't have certain sections show up as blank spaces in the table (see picture) There are no footers/headers. • Could CouchDB benefit significantly from the use of BERT instead of JSON?

  I appreciate a lot CouchDB attempt to use universal web formats in everything it does: RESTFUL HTTP methods in every interaction, JSON objects, javascript code to customize database and documents. CouchDB seems to scale pretty well, but the individual cost to make a request usually makes 'relational' people afraid of. Many small business applications should deal with only one machine and that's all. In this case the scalability talk doesn't say too much, we need more performance per request, or people will not use it. BERT (Binary ERlang Term http://bert-rpc.org/ ) has proven to be a faster and lighter format than JSON and it is native for Erlang, the language in which CouchDB is written. Could we benefit from that, using BERT documents instead of JSON ones? I'm not saying just for retrieving in views, but for everything CouchDB does, including syncing. And, as a consequence of it, use Erlang functions instead of javascript ones. This would modify some original CouchDB principles, because today it is very web oriented. Considering I imagine few people would make their database API public and usually its data is accessed by the users through an application, it would be a good deal to have the ability to configure CouchDB for working faster. HTTP+JSON calls could still be handled by CouchDB, considering an extra cost in these cases because of parsing.

• How to change the Struts2 validation error message in the case of an invalid field value?

  I'm using Struts2 validation on a web form. In the case that a field is suppose to be an integer or Date, the <s:fielderror> message I receive is a generic Invalid field value for field "[fieldname]" Naturally, I want to customize this for the user. Here's an example validation: <field name="spouseDOB"> <field-validator type="date"> <message>"Spouse Date of Birth" is invalid.</message> </field-validator> <field-validator type="date"> <param name="min">01/01/1900</param> <message>"Spouse Date of Birth" must be after 1900 AD. </field-validator> </field> The message "Spouse Date of Birth" is invalid. never appears, for any invalid date that I have tried. The output is the generic Invalid field value for field spouseDOB spouseDOB is a java.util.Date object in the action class. It is set by a <s:textfield> in the JSP.

• CSS Caching and User-CUstomized CSS - Any Suggestions?

  I'm just trying to figure out the best approach here... my consideration is that I'd like my users to be able to customize the colors of certain elements on the page. These are not pre-made css they can choose from, but rather styles that can be edited using javascript to change the style, so they cannot be "pre-made" into separate style sheets. I am also generating the css into a cache directory since I am generating the css through a PHP script. I am thinking that, perhaps I should: 1) If cached css file doesn't exist, create css file using the website default style settings. 2) If cached css file does exist, check if user has custom settings, if so, edit the cache file before displaying it. Btw, when I refer to "cached file" I mean the PHP generated css document. My goal is to prevent the need to have PHP re-generate the css file each time, whilst still allowing users, when logged in, to have their customized css settings applied. I will store these settings in a database most likely so when they return it is saved for them when they login.

• Content management recommendations for website?

  Hello I am working on a website that has a wide range of content. (News, FAQs, tutorials, blog, articles, product pages etc.) Currently a lot of this content is static or uses special-purpose scripts. I would like to move most of it under the wing of a single content manager. I have not used out of the box content management software previously so am hoping for some recommendations on what options there are and what might be best suited to a project like this. Whether the manager is open source or commercial, and what language it is written in, are not so important. I can customize the environment as necessary. The most important things are: 1) The ability to manage a wide variety of content. 2) The ability to create highly customized templates for a single page of content or entire category of content. 3) Flexibility. ie The ability to integrate managed content with other pages not controlled by the content manager. • sproutcore vs javascriptMVC for web app development

  Hi, I want to use a javascript framework with MVC for a complex web application (which will be one of a set of related apps and pages) for an intranet in a digital archives. I have been looking at SproutCore and JavascriptMVC. I want to choose one framework and stick with it. Does anybody know what the distinguishing features are when comparing these two? I want something that is simple, straightforward that I can customize/hack easily, and that doesn't get in my way too much, but that at the same time gives me a basis for keeping my code nicely organized, and event-driven. I also plan on using jquery substantially. I know sproutcore is backed by Apple, and looks like it is getting more popular by the day, and it has a nice green website :), whereas JavascriptMVC looks less professional, with less of a following and less momentum behind it. I've done the tutorials for both and I was impressed by SproutCore more (in the JMVC tutorial you don't really do anything substantial) - but somewhere in the back of my mind I feel that JMVC might just be better because it doesn't try and do too much - it just gives you MVC functionality based on a couple of jquery plugins, and you can use jquery for everything else, so its flexible. Whereas SproutCore seems to have more of its own API etc... which is also nice in a way... but then you're kind of stuck within that.... hmmm I'm confused :). Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

• Using T4 templates to add custom code to EF4 generated entities?

  I am getting started with Entity Framework 4, using model-first development. I am building a simple WPF demo app to learn the framework. My app has two entities, Topic and Note. A Topic is a discussion topic; it has Title, Text, and DateRevised properties. Topic also has a Notes collection property. a Note has DateCreated and Text properties. I have used EF4 to create an EDM and data store for the app. Now I need to add just a bit of intelligence to the entities. For example, the property setter for the Topic.Text property needs to update the Topic.DateRevised property, and a Note needs to set its DateCreated property when it is instantiated--pretty simple stuff. I assume that I can't modify the generated classes directly, because my code would be lost if the entities are re-generated. Is this the sort of thing that I can implement by modifying the T4 template that EF4 uses to generate the entities? In other words, can a T4 template be modified to add my code for performing these tasks to the entities that it generates? Can you refer me to a good tutorial or explanation of how to get started? Most of what I have found so far talks about how to add a tt file to an EDM, so I can do that. What I am looking for is a resource that I can use to get to the next level, assuming that a T4 template can be used to customize generated entities as I have described. Thanks for your help.

  Problem: I am trying to customize a custom Workflow Foundation activity (called CustomActivity) so that it will display with a specific background color. However, when I include an instance of my CustomActivity in a workflow, my custom theme is not applied and it is displayed in the Visual Studio Designer as any standard activity would (white background etc.). I tried re-compiling and even re-starting Visual Studio a couple of times, just to make sure the used assembly is up-to-date, but to no avail. My question: What am I missing? Why does Visual Studio's Workflow Designer not respect the CustomActivityTheme when it displays a CustomActivity?

• configure batch to sent minute info instead of entire stdout

  Hi all, I am working on a RedHat server along with several other users. We use the batch utility to set a job queue. Some of the programs that I use write stuff to stdout during the run, with info on who much data has been processed to far and estimated time until completion etc. batch -q z at> myScript -i somefile -o someotherfile By default, the batch util send an email to me (since I configured it using .forward) with the entire output from stdout. Since the scripts writes something to stdout a few times each second, the amount of log-stuff I get from a two-day script can be ˜20 Mbs. Clearly not what I want. I can of course pipe stdout to a file like so batch -q z at> myScript -i somefile -o someotherfile > myscript.stdout.log but then I get a blank e-mail from the util. So to my question: Is it possible to configure batch so that it sends time the job started and ended, or run time or some oth valuable information to me, instead of a 20 Mb mail or a blank mail? Note that the scripts that I use are binaries and I cannot customize the code to output less info in the first place (which would be the optimal solution I guess). Thanks /Daniel

• Android : Bitmap save to location

  I am working on a function to download an image from a web server, redisplay it on the screen, and if the user wishes to keep the image, save it on the SD card in a certain folder. Is there an easy way to take a bitmap and just save it to the SD card in a folder of my choice? My issue is that I can download the image, display it on screen as a Bitmap. The only way I have been able to find to save an image to a particular folder is to use FileOutputStream, but that requires a byte array. I am not sure how to convert (if this is even the right way) from Bitmap to byte array, so I can use a Fileoutput stream to write the data. The other option I have is it use MediaStore : MediaStore.Images.Media.insertImage(getContentResolver(), bm, barcodeNumber + ".jpg Card Image", barcodeNumber + ".jpg Card Image"); Which works fine to save to SD card, but does not allow you to customize the folder. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

• Can you add a UITableViewController's TableView to another View?

  I've inserted a UITableViewController and it's corresponding UITableView into a simple IB document. The goal is to include the UITableView inside of a parent UIWindow (or UIView) with other "stuff" (anything really) adorning the table. Build a working subclass of UITableViewController filled with data Customize the UTableView and it's cells including tap targets Add the newly created UITableViewController into an IB document Drag the UITableView out of the UITableViewController and into the main UIView Wire up the UITableViewController to the UITableView Note: adding the UITableViewController in code results in the same problem When running the app in the iPhone emulator or on a device the table displays correctly, but crashes the first time you try and interact with it. A scroll, a tap, anything crashes the app. This seems to be a delegate problem, like the UITableView doesn't know how to communicate back to the UITableViewController, but I have no idea how to correct the problem. So far I have been able to get by by customizing the tableHeaderView to get layouts that suffice, but I'd really prefer to have the other technique work.

At present I have find out that iPhone SDK doesn’t support APIs to customize media player. I need these things in the player: I would like to have custom views i.e. want to change all control buttons on player like Play/Pause, seek bar etc. The background of player will also need to be different. The player has to play audio or video file from local/remote location. Can i use MPMoviePlayerController if it can be customized (How to do it ??). However, any other third party player approved by iPhone which has an ability to download and play the media file from local/remote location is also fine. It will be great to have an access to media player buffer so that it can be encrypted. I have following questions: 1.Any help in building/customizing player..... 2.Do you see issues in signing of application? 3.Does Apple have any restrictions on customizing media player? 4.Any sample iPhone application where media player is customized Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

• Pagination in Joomla!

  Hi every one. I'm a bit new to Joomla! and I'm building my new web site using Joomla! 1.5.8 with a template bought from RocketTheme. The long article in question is a gallery of photos, and I wanted to create a horizontal pagination nav-bar in the footer of the gallery, I just clicked pagebreak where I wanted to paginate in my article in the WYSIWYG editor and thought that it's actually all I have to do. What I got was ugly; a vertically directed navigation bar placed in the top right side of my gallery with the links to each part of the article, the all without the minimum styling. And as I see it's a table! Why not outputting a list instead of a table! (Well this is not actually my concern right now). I can understand CSS and html, but I'm not really a PHP guy, so I don't understand how to use pagination.php or pagenavigation.php! Do I have to customize one of them to have my nav-bar? What I have to do to get that horizontal nav-bar? Really thanks in advance. Wassim

  Hi all, i'm creating custom title for activity by disabling standard one and managing everything myself. I wonder if it's possible to replace/theme standart title to my needs. I can customize size, background image, and text via themes by changing windowXYZStyle items. The only thing i couldn't find - how i can add image instead of text. I've tried requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_CUSTOM_TITLE) and assign custom layout - but it doesn't seems to work. • osCommerce custom PHP page

  Hello! One of my client has an old osCommerce website and while working on it I have to implement what I would call "custom php page", i.e. a page which query a MySQL table, not related to osCommerce, and list the result. I'm not sure of the version, this trick I have seen a lot didn't gave me any result : http://www.clubosc.com/how-to-know-what-version-of-oscommerce-you-are-using.html . And I'm having a hard time doing this seemingly simple task, since osCommerce doesn't allow any php code in the page creation, and I didn't find any module giving me this possibility (not that it is easy to search in this mess : http://addons.oscommerce.com/). At this point I figured it would be easier to just hack'n slash through the code and come up with a custom page : I copied the index.php (the entry point in the application) : <?php require('includes/application_top.php'); if(!$smarty->is_cached($sContentPage, $sCachingGroup)) { //we switch on the content recognition require('includes/pages/' . $sContentClass . • Anything speaking against the bitnami.org Ruby/Rails/Redmine Stack?

  I am looking to set up a Redmine server on a Windows virtual machine on my local workstation. (Background in this related question.) I have zero knowledge of Ruby nor Rails, and while Redmine may be the opportunity to dip into those platforms somewhat, my first goal is to get it running as quickly and easily as possible. For that, I am eyeing the Bitnami Redmine Package. It promises point-and-click install, and a self-contained environment with everything you need. Apart from the learning factor, are there any serious limitations this method implies? Any serious cutdowns in customizability? I will be wanting to customize the template right away, for example, and install plugins. The package looks o.k. to me but before I install it, I was curious to know whether anybody would advise against it and why. Edit: The first impression is great. From 0 to a working Redmine installation in twelve minutes! Wow.
