• Can't set-up Wifi Adhoc on my Raspberry Pi with an USB dongle

  I am trying to set-up an access point (ad-hoc) for my Raspberry Pi. That means I'm trying to "share" the ethernet connection over Wi-Fi. I am doing this using my Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501/RT2573 Wireless Adapter. When following a tutorial (or actually every tutorial), it immediately goes wrong. root@pinkypi:/home/pi# iwconfig wlan0 mode ad-hoc Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; Device or resource busy. I already tried ifdown and not having it in the USB port at the startup. If it helps, every action with the thing fail (or at least setting the mode). I am using Debian. I'm sure I'm overseeing something, but I can't find out what. What is wrong?

  I want to use rsync to transfer files from my computer to a remote Linux system. Regardless of the local file's group ownership, I want to set these values on the remote side. If I was on the remote Linux system, I could create the directory and set the ownership and permissions as: mkdir my_directory chown :my_group my_directory chmod 775 my_directory If I create the directory locally and then use rsync (remember, I don't have my_group locally), I do: rsync -ae ssh --chmod=ug+rw,Dug+rwx my_directory remoteserver:dest That works, but I cannot figure out how to set the group owner through rsync. If I do a chmod g+s dest, my_directory has the correct group owner but all of the files inside have the incorrect group owner.

• Setting up Linux VPN Client on Mint: Never sends "Set-Link-Info" packet

  I have tried to set up a VPN Connection on the Linux Mint disto, but could not get it working. When I use a Windows 7 VPN client it works fine. I brought up Wireshark on both Windows and Linux machine and noticed that on the Windows machine, the client never attempted to send the "Set-Link-Info" packet whereas the Windows (working) VPN client did. Why isn't the Linux Mint client sending the "Set-Link-Info" packet. I think if it did that, then my connection would work. What am I missing?

• Set certain WSUS updates to auto-install

  We're running a WSUS server for the simple purpose of caching updates. Since we are a very small network of all "power users", we've got the domain group policy for WSUS updates on the clients set to prompt for download/install. i.e. We don't want updates to install without our knowledge. But there are a few cases where it would be nice to be able to set a certain update to auto-install. e.g. Windows Defender updates, Malicious Software Removal Tool, Outlook Junk Email Filter, etc. Basically all the silly little updates that you would always install anyway and don't require a restart. Is there a way to set the general policy to prompt for download/install, but auto-install certain regular updates? P.S. WSUS itself does have the facility to auto-approve certain updates. • Logging Apparently Not Working - Can't Set Configure Replication

  I'm using a tutorial to set up a master (single) slave setup. When I run the command show master status; I get Empty set (0.00 sec). I have done a lot of research and believe that the log file I have set up isn't being used properly. The master is a Windows server, and I am administering it through workbench. The log file (log-bin.log) I have configured in the options exists, and is accessible by 'System'. But when I open it as a text file it doesn't have any data. So I'm assuming it's not getting used properly. How can I get the logging happening so I can finish setting up this replication? Edit: Purely for reference here is the tutorial. I followed all the steps and double checked everything up until show master status.

  I assume I have set up them up incorrectly or am missing a library or dependency. When I log into the OMSA web interface I can't see anything Also, omreport tells me nothing; root@box:~# omreport storage controller No controllers found I assume these two will use the same source of information so what ever is wrong will fix them both. I set up OMSA as per these instructions. Also I have compiled MegaCLI (as this is a PowerEdge 2950 with a Perc 6/i controller) and I have used that to update the RAID firmware, so that works, but the Dell tools aren't.   Hello, I have Windows Vista Business Edition running on my laptop (brand is HCL). I have 4 HDD which are as follows - C - 29.2 GB (of which only 3.68 GB is free) D - 39 GB (of which 37.8 GB is free) E - 39 GB (of which 37.3 GB is free) F - 41.6 (of which 41.4 GB is free) However, my page file settings are as below. Automatically manage paging file for all drives. Question - Why should I set one for each drive? Should I set my page file on the OS Root Drive. I happen to talk to a System Administrator in an IT company and he advised that we should never set the page file on the OS drive but on an alternate drive wherever possible. It would be really helpful, if you can guide me here or at least point me to the right resources so that I can read about paging and best practices of paging. Cheers,

  I would want to set the out-of-office automatic response to all emails that arrive to our [email protected]. currently in the Outlook, I only have one mailbox (the user mailbox) but it has 2 shared mailboxes setup. I have tried to create a Rule that says: for all email received on account [email protected] forward to user [email protected] and make that user to set up the Out-of-office message, but it simply did not work, and I suspect that the rules only apply to the user account and not the shared account...   I have a function that creates a Pivot Table, but I am getting an error when I try to set a range that will be merged and have a title added to it. In the below code, pivot_title_range is a 'String' variable, and is optional when calling the funtion. title_range is a 'Range' variable. Both lines that set the range (whether or not the users declares pivot_title_range) cause the same error. • Unity elements sometimes appear while full screen in Virtualbox - how to stop it?

  Launcher is great, and it helps me finds stuff. I have the latest release of 12. But when I'm full screen in VirtualBox running another operating system and I hit some key combination I haven't yet figured out, Unity suddenly grabs keyboard focus. It might be alt-tab, it might be left-control x. I have physically pulled both the windows key and FN key off my laptop because they get in the way, so it's probably not the windows key. You don't know the focus has been stolen because the full screen app (VirtualBox) is still full screen and the Unity element is in the background. But you're busy typing into a Unity box, not your foreground application. This is particularly annoying. In my screenshot (taken from a camera, because the built in screen capture program can't capture a screenshot containing the launcher...) the windows VM is the foreground application, but the "Run Command" entry box has come up and is capturing the keyboard: I would like a foreground full screen app to stay that way. Is there a way that I can keep Unity but only have it activate its elements (e.g. pop out with its search box) if I physically click a button, not type some random key combination that foreground applications can get confused about? Otherwise I can do without the launcher or other elements, because doing my actual work is more involved than just launching programs.

• Powershell Set-Acl fails

  While working on a little backup script I try to change the ACL of a file using Set-Acl in Powershell 1 on Vista and always get the following error message: Set-Acl : The security identifier is not allowed to be the owner of this object. This error persists even if I go a minimal script: $acl = Get-Acl $sourcepath$file $acl |format-list Set-Acl -path $sourcepath$file -AclObject $acl Does anyone know the reason for this error? Obviously I'm not changing the ownership of the file... BTW: What I ultimately want to achieve is to reduce all access rights to ReadAndExecute. • Aquamacs overrides my custom-set-faces options

  I've just installed Aquamacs on my Mac. I have a .emacs file in my home, which contains all my customizations. Among these, I have a: (custom-set-faces ... ) set of lines, which seems not to be applied automatically. If I select the lines from the .emacs and manually evaluate them, everything works fine. My guess is that these options are overridden in some other place. How can I debug this? Where should I set my custom faces? Thanks guys.

  I'm currently migrating to openbox without gnome session. In unity i can use the vendor keys to set the screen brightness, but in openbox I'm on my own. /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness works fine, the problem is that I need sudo to set the brightness and that wouldn't work with keyboard mappings. xbacklight -get/set doesn't do or output anything. I don't really want to use xrandr --brightness. Are there any other options or a way to fix the problems with xbacklight or acpi_video0 ?

I just want to add three properties to tomcat as system property using setenv.sh. What should I do to complete it successfully? • Rails add a param to the end of a search query

  Hello, I am trying to implement a sort on the returned results of a search with rails. Filter by: 'recent' % | 'lowest_price' % | 'highest_price' % here are my links. I would like to add a filter to the end of my search query. So for example, I submit a search and I get back results and in my url I have http://localhost:3000/junks?search=handbag&condition=&category=&main_submit=Go! I would then like the user to be able to click one of the above links and have the page come back with a new query (i have this set up in the controller like such) con_id = params[:condition] if params[:category].nil? || params[:category].empty? cat_id = params[:category] results = Junk.search params[:search], :with => { :category_id => cat_id, :condition_id => con_id } case params[:filter] when "lowest_price" @junks = results.lowest_price.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 12 when "highest_price" @junks = results.highest_price.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 12 else @junks = results.paginate :page => params[:page], :per_page => 12 end else I would like the user to be able to click on of the above links and append a filter param to the end of the search query so that my controller can pick it up and call the correct database queries as seen in the case statement above. • Python program to search for specific strings in hash values (coding help)

  Trying to write a code that searches hash values for specific string's (input by user) and returns the hash if searchquery is present in that line. Doing this to kind of just learn python a bit more, but it could be a real world application used by an HR department to search a .csv resume database for specific words in each resume. I'd like this program to look through a .csv file that has three entries per line (id#;applicant name;resume text) I set it up so that it creates a hash, then created a string for the resume text hash entry, and am trying to use the .find() function to return the entire hash for each instance. What i'd like is if the word "gpa" is used as a search query and it is found in s['resumetext'] for three applicants(rows in .csv file), it prints the id, name, and resume for every row that has it.(All three applicants) As it is right now, my program prints the first row in the .csv file(print resume['id'], resume['name'], resume['resumetext']) no matter what the searchquery is, whether it's in the resumetext or not. lastly, are there better ways to doing this, by searching word documents, pdf's and .txt files in a folder for specific words using python (i've just started reading about the re module and am wondering if this may be the route, rather than putting everything in a .csv file.) def find_details(id2find): resumes_f=open("resume_data.csv") for each_line in resumes_f: s={} (s['id'], s['name'], s['resumetext']) = each_line.split(";") resumetext = str(s['resumetext']) if resumetext.find(id2find): return(s) else: print "No data matches your search query. • StructureMap Configuration Per Thread/Request for the Full Dependency Chain

  I've been using Structuremap for a few months now, and it has worked great on some smaller (green field) projects. Most of the configurations I have had to set up involve a single implementation per interface. In the cases where I needed to choose a specific implementation at runtime, I created a factory class that used ObjectFactory.GetNamedInstance<(). In the smaller projects, there were few enough of these cases where I was comfortable with the references to ObjectFactory. My understanding is that you want to limit these references as much as possible, and ideally only reference the ObjectFactory once. I am working to refactor a larger codebase to use IOC/StructureMap, and am finding that I may need many of these factory classes with ObjectFactory references to get what I need. Essentially, I am creating a "root service" with the ObjectFactory, so that everything in the dependency chain is managed by the container. The root service is created by name (i.e. "BuildCar", "BuildTruck"), and the services needed deeper in the dependency chain could also be constructed using the same name--so the "IAttachWheels" service could vary based on whether a car or truck is being built. Since the class that depends on IAttachWheels is the same in both configurations, I don't think I can use ConstructedBy in the registry to choose the implementation. Also, to be clear, the IAttachWheels implementations need to be managed by the container as well, because the dependency chain runs fairly deep. I looked briefly at Profiles as an option, but read (here on StackOverflow) that changing profiles essentially changes implementations for all threads. Is there a feature that is similar to profiles that is thread/request specific? Is the factory class that references ObjectFactory approach the right way to go? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

• Sphinx - delimiters

  Hi, I would like to know if the Sphinx engine works with any delimiters (like commas and periods in normal MySQL). My question comes from the urge, not to use them at all, but to escape them or at least thay they don't enter in conflict when performing MATCH operations with FULLTEXT searches, since I have problems dealing with them in MySQL by default and I would prefer not to be forced to replace those delimiters by any other characters to provide a good set of results. Sorry if I'm saying something stupid, but I don't have experience with Sphinx or other complementary (?) search engines. To give you an example, if I perform a search with "Passat 2.0 TDI" MySQL by default would identify the period in this case as a delimiter and since the "2" and "0" are too short to be considered words by default, the results would be a bit messed up. Is it easy to handle with Sphinx (or other search engine)? I'm open to suggestions. This is for a large project, with probably more than 500.000 possible records (not trivial at all). Cheers!

  Hi guys, What is the best approach to find if a given set(unsorted) is a perfect subset of a main set. I got to do some validation in my program where I got to compare the clients request set with the registered internal capability set. I thought of doing by having internal capability set sorted(will not change once registered) and do Binary search for each element in the client's request set. Is it the best I could get?
