  • Wireless cuts out on Toshiba Satellite S7208

    - by alecRN
I recently got a Toshiba Satellite L875-S7208 with Windows 7 preinstalled. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS dual boot to the same Windows partition. However, usually 15 minutes or less after booting, the wifi connection dies. Here's some hopefully relevant information: lspci -knn 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family DRAM Controller [8086:0104] (rev 09) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:fb41] Kernel driver in use: agpgart-intel 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0116] (rev 09) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:fb40] Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 00:14.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB xHCI Host Controller [8086:1e31] (rev 04) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:fb41] Kernel driver in use: xhci_hcd 00:16.0 Communication controller [0780]: Intel Corporation Panther Point MEI Controller #1 [8086:1e3a] (rev 04) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:fb41] Kernel driver in use: mei Kernel modules: mei 00:1a.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 [8086:1e2d] (rev 04) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:fb41] Kernel driver in use: ehci_hcd 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation Panther Point High Definition Audio Controller [8086:1e20] (rev 04) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:fb40] Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel 00:1c.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 1 [8086:1e10] (rev c4) Kernel driver in use: pcieport Kernel modules: shpchp 00:1c.1 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 2 [8086:1e12] (rev c4) Kernel driver in use: pcieport Kernel modules: shpchp 00:1c.2 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Panther Point PCI Express Root Port 3 [8086:1e14] (rev c4) Kernel driver in use: pcieport Kernel modules: shpchp 00:1d.0 USB controller [0c03]: Intel Corporation Panther Point USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 [8086:1e26] (rev 04) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:fb41] Kernel driver in use: ehci_hcd 00:1f.0 ISA bridge [0601]: Intel Corporation Panther Point LPC Controller [8086:1e59] (rev 04) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:fb41] Kernel modules: iTCO_wdt 00:1f.2 SATA controller [0106]: Intel Corporation Panther Point 6 port SATA Controller [AHCI mode] [8086:1e03] (rev 04) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:fb41] Kernel driver in use: ahci 00:1f.3 SMBus [0c05]: Intel Corporation Panther Point SMBus Controller [8086:1e22] (rev 04) Subsystem: Toshiba America Info Systems Device [1179:fb41] Kernel modules: i2c-i801 02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. • Exiting a reboot loop

    - by user12617035
If you're in a situation where the system is panic'ing during boot, you can use # boot net -s to regain control of your system. In my case, I'd added some diagnostic code to a (PCI) driver (that is used to boot the root filesystem). There was a bug in the driver, and each time during boot, the bug occurred, and so caused the system to panic: ... 000000000180b950 genunix:vfs_mountroot+60 (800, 200, 0, 185d400, 1883000, 18aec00) %l0-3: 0000000000001770 0000000000000640 0000000001814000 00000000000008fc %l4-7: 0000000001833c00 00000000018b1000 0000000000000600 0000000000000200 000000000180ba10 genunix:main+98 (18141a0, 1013800, 18362c0, 18ab800, 180e000, 1814000) %l0-3: 0000000070002000 0000000000000001 000000000180c000 000000000180e000 %l4-7: 0000000000000001 0000000001074800 0000000000000060 0000000000000000 skipping system dump - no dump device configured rebooting... If you're logged in via the console, you can send a BREAK sequence in order to gain control of the firmware's (OBP's) prompt. Enter Ctrl-Shift-[ in order to get the TELNET prompt. Once telnet has control, enter this: telnet> send brk You'll be presented with OBP's prompt: ok You then enter the following in order to boot into single-user mode via the network: ok boot net -s Note that booting from the network under Solaris will implicitly cause the system to be INSTALLED with whatever software had last been configured to be installed. However, we are using boot net -s as a "handle" with which to get at the Solaris prompt. Once at that prompt, we can perform actions as root that will let us back out our buggy driver (ok... MY buggy driver :-)) ...and replace it with the original, non-buggy driver. Entering the boot command caused the following output, as well as left us at the Solaris prompt (in single-user-mode): Sun Blade 1500, No Keyboard Copyright 1998-2004 Sun Microsystems, Inc. Configured interface bge0 Requesting System Maintenance Mode SINGLE USER MODE # Our goal is to now move to the directory containing the buggy driver and replace it with the original driver (that we had saved away before ever loading our buggy driver! :-) However, since we booted from the network, the root filesystem ("/") is NOT mounted on one of our local disks. It is mounted on an NFS filesystem exported by our install server. To verify this, enter the following command: # mount | head -1 / on my-server:/export/install/media/s10u2/solarisdvd.s10s_u2dvd/latest/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot remote/read/write/setuid/devices/dev=4ac0001 on Wed Dec 31 16:00:00 1969 As a result, we have to create a temporary mount point and then mount the local disk onto that mount point: # mkdir /tmp/mnt # mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /tmp/mnt Note that your system will not necessarily have had its root filesystem on "c0t0d0s0". This is something that you should also have recorded before you ever loaded your.. er... "my" buggy driver! :-) One can find the local disk mounted under the root filesystem by entering: # df -k / Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 76703839 4035535 71901266 6% / To continue with our example, we can now move to the directory of buggy-driver in order to replace it with the original driver. Note that /tmp/mnt is prefixed to the path of where we'd "normally" find the driver: # cd /tmp/mnt/platform/sun4u/kernel/drv/sparcv9 # ls -l pci\* -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 288504 Dec 6 15:38 pcisch -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 288504 Dec 6 15:38 pcisch.aar -rwxr-xr-x 1 root sys 211616 Jun 8 2006 pcisch.orig # cp -p pcisch.orig pcisch We can now synchronize any in-memory filesystem data structures with those on disk... and then reboot. The system will then boot correctly... as expected: # sync;sync # reboot syncing file systems... done Sun Blade 1500, No Keyboard Copyright 1998-2004 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved. • Why does linux-image-virtual depend on a generic kernel now?

    - by ændrük
The linux-image-virtual metapackage has historically provided a kernel that is specifically designed for use in virtual machines: Ubuntu 8.04: linux-image-2.6.24-32-virtual Ubuntu 10.04: linux-image-2.6.32-44-virtual Ubuntu 11.10: linux-image-3.0.0-26-virtual Ubuntu 12.04: linux-image-3.2.0-32-virtual Apparently, this has now changed: Ubuntu 12.10: linux-image-3.5.0-17-generic What's the explanation? Is this still the correct kernel to use in a virtual machine?

  • Which driver should I use with a 9600 GT Mobile?

    - by lisalisa
I checked the Additional Drivers offered for my card and I saw four options: NVIDIA accelerated graphics drivers (version 173) NVIDIA accelerated graphics drivers (post-release updates) (version 173-updates) NVIDIA accelerated graphics drivers (version current) (Recommended) NVIDIA accelerated graphics drivers (post-release updates)(version current-updates) I'm not sure which one to pick. I want a driver that's stable but also takes advantage of my card's hardware.

  • Why is lowlatency kernel not being updated in parallel with the generic kernel?

    - by FlabbergastedPickle
All, Any idea when we'll see updates to the lowlatency version of the Ubuntu 12.04 kernel? It is still stuck at 3.2.0.23 whereas the generic kernel is already several updates ahead of it at a version 3.2.0.25? NB: I am using a 64-bit version but I don't think this is limited to the 64-bit kernels alone but rather affects both 32-bit and 64-bit builds. Please do correct me if I am wrong about this.

  • Should I have a separate method for Update(), Insert(), etc., or have a generic Query() that would be able to handle all of these?

    - by Prayos
I'm currently trying to write a class library for a connection to a database. Looking over it, there are several different types of queries: Select From, Update, Insert, etc. My question is, what is the best practice for writing these queries in a C# application? Should I have a separate method for each of them(i.e. Update(), Insert()), or have a generic Query() that would be able to handle all of these? Thanks for any and all help!

  • Is there a jdbc driver for SQL Server that can search for database instances on network?

    - by djangofan
Is there a jdbc driver for SQL Server that can search for database instances on network? Just wanting to emulate "OSQL -L" from the JDBC driver. Dont want to have to call OSQL from JNI or something. I also don't want to have to write my own code for scanning a UDP port. I want my Java application to be able to search for live SQL Servers and prompt me with a list of available servers. Isn't this a reasonable expectation for a JDBC driver? OSQL.exe can do it and so why not the JDBC driver?

  • How to override TOMCAT Oracle ojdbc14 driver in the application?

    - by Luís Henrique Rocha
The TOMCAT server is using an Oracle 9G ojdbc14 driver to its jndi connections in the /common/lib folder. My web application uses Maven + Spring and I'm getting the dataSource using Spring jndi features. I'm trying to bypass TOMCAT old ojdbc14 driver with a newer one (ojdbc14 10.2.0.4.0). I've tried putting the jars in the WEB-INF/lib folder as a project dependency, but it doesn't work the application keeps using the old oracle driver that is in the TOMCAT folder. I'm trying to bypass the TOMCAT oracle driver because I cannot update it to the newest version because there are lots of other projects using it. Does anyone have a clue?

What I am trying to do is to reproduce the html inside Ember.View.render, but I would like to reuse as much Ember functionality as possible. Specifically, I would like to reuse the {{#linkTo ...}} helper, with two goals: Reuse existing html rendering implemented in the {{#linkTo ...}} helper Get the same routing support that using the {{#linkTo ...}} in a template provides. How can I call this helper from within javascript code? This is my first (incomplete) attempt. The template: {{view SettingsApp.NavigationView}} And the view: var trans = Ember.I18n.t; var MAIN_MENU = [ { 'linkTo' : 'nodes', 'i-class' : 'icon-cloud', 'txt' : trans('generic.nodes') }, { 'linkTo' : 'services', 'i-class' : 'icon-phone', 'txt' : trans('generic.services') }, ]; function getNavIcon (data) { var linkTo = data.linkTo, i_class = data['i-class'], txt = data.txt; var html = '<i class="icon-fixed-width icon-2x ' + i_class + '"></i>&nbsp;&nbsp;' + txt; return html; } SettingsApp.NavigationView = Ember.View.extend({ menu : MAIN_MENU, render: function(buffer) { for (var i=0, l=this.menu.length; i<l; i++) { var data = this.menu[i]; // TODO: call the ember function implementing the {{#linkTo ...}} helper buffer.push(getNavIcon(data)); } return buffer; } });

  • How to change the language of driver interface for Canon Pixma printers?

    - by Sammy
Is there a way to change the language of the driver interface for Canon Pixma printers? Which language is used seems to be determined by the language of the OS or the Windows localization settings. I really don't want that, I want to be able to set the language manually to my own liking, either during the driver installation or afterwards. I have found a workaround for Pixma IP2770 where you edit the setup.ini file by replacing the language names and the DLL search paths with <SELECT> under the LANGUAGES section. So instead of... 0000=<SELECT> 0001=Arabic,RES\STRING\IJInstAR.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstAR.dll 0804=Simplified Chinese,RES\STRING\IJInstCN.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstCN.dll 0404=Traditional Chinese,RES\STRING\IJInstTW.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstTW.dll 0005=Czech,RES\STRING\IJInstCZ.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstCZ.dll 0006=Danish,RES\STRING\IJInstDK.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstDK.dll 0007=German,RES\STRING\IJInstDE.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstDE.dll 0008=Greek,RES\STRING\IJInstGR.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstGR.dll 0009=English,RES\STRING\IJInstUS.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstUS.dll 000A=Spanish,RES\STRING\IJInstES.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstES.dll 000B=Finnish,RES\STRING\IJInstFI.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstFI.dll 000C=French,RES\STRING\IJInstFR.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstFR.dll 000E=Hungarian,RES\STRING\IJInstHU.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstHU.dll 0010=Italian,RES\STRING\IJInstIT.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstIT.dll 0011=Japanese,RES\STRING\IJInstJP.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstJP.dll 0012=Korean,RES\STRING\IJInstKR.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstKR.dll 0013=Dutch,RES\STRING\IJInstNL.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstNL.dll 0014=Norwegian,RES\STRING\IJInstNO.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstNO.dll 0015=Polish,RES\STRING\IJInstPL.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstPL.dll 0016=Portuguese,RES\STRING\IJInstPT.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstPT.dll 0019=Russian,RES\STRING\IJInstRU.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstRU.dll 001D=Swedish,RES\STRING\IJInstSE.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstSE.dll 001E=Thai,RES\STRING\IJInstTH.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstTH.dll 001F=Turkish,RES\STRING\IJInstTR.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstTR.dll 0021=Indonesian,RES\STRING\IJInstID.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstID.dll You get.... 0000=<SELECT> 0001=<SELECT> 0804=<SELECT> 0404=<SELECT> 0005=<SELECT> 0006=<SELECT> 0007=<SELECT> 0008=<SELECT> 0009=English,RES\STRING\IJInstUS.ini,RES\DLL\IJInstUS.dll 000A=<SELECT> 000B=<SELECT> 000C=<SELECT> 000E=<SELECT> 0010=<SELECT> 0011=<SELECT> 0012=<SELECT> 0013=<SELECT> 0014=<SELECT> 0015=<SELECT> 0016=<SELECT> 0019=<SELECT> 001D=<SELECT> 001E=<SELECT> 001F=<SELECT> 0021=<SELECT> .... in case English is the preferred language. It's a way to force the installation program to only install the English language support. IP2770 is a model for the Asian market, so if you want to check this out you need to go to the Canon India download page (for instance) to get the driver. Unfortunately this method is not possible with my IP4000. There is no driver even available for it to download for Windows Vista. But is there really no way of changing the language of the UI in any normal way, you know... without having to hack it? Besides, the driver for my printer comes with Windows Vista, so I don't even have to install any drivers. And little do I get the chance to set the language, knowing that the installation never happens. Any ideas?...

  • Windows 8, NVIDIA graphics recognition fails

    - by Roy Grubb
I just installed Windows 8 Pro OEM 64-bit (clean install) and it won't properly recognize my graphics adapter. When I installed Win8, it automatically installed the BasicDisplay.sys driver dated 6/21/2006. 6.2.9200.16384 (win8_rtm.120725-1247). Hardware - Mobo:MSi G41M-P33 Combo CPU:Intel CoreDuo 6600 Graphics:NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT *OS* - Windows 8 Pro 64-bit OEM The graphics adapter worked fine in Windows XP. The PC is a generic box, bought locally and its mobo failed recently, so I replaced it with the G41M. Microsoft wouldn't let me re-activate Windows XP with a different mobo, so I installed Win8, which appears to work except as described next. Win8 only partially recognizes the graphics adapter and won't allow NVIDIA latest driver installer to see that it's an NVIDIA card. As a result, OpenGL doesn't work, and this is needed by the software I most use. Other than that the graphics look OK. When I say 'partially recognizes', I mean that via the Control Panel, I can see that the adapter is described as NVIDIA, but the driver remains stuck at Microsoft Basic Display Adapter no matter what I try, including "Update driver..." in adapter properties. Display Screen Resolution Advanced Settings Adapter shows: Adapter Type: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter Chip Type: NVIDIA DAC Type: NVIDIA Corporation Bios Information: G27 Board - p381n17 Don't know what this means ... no mention of 9400GT Total Available Graphics Memory: 256 MB Dedicated Video Memory: 0 MB In fact the adapter has 512MB on-board video memory. System Video Memory: 0 MB Shared System Memory: 256 MB And Control Panel Device Manager Display adapters just shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. No other graphics adapter, and no unknown device or yellow question mark. What I have tried so far: 1. Cleared CMOS and reset. Updated BIOS and all mobo drivers as follows: 1st I used Driver Reviver to see if any driver updates were required. It found some but I didn't use that to get the drivers. Then I switched to MSi's own mobo driver utility Live Update 5. This also showed the board needed to update several so I used it to fetch the new drivers. After that it showed that everything was up to date and I checked with Driver Reviver again, which also reported no drivers now needed updating. Rebooted. Went to the NVIDIA site to get the latest graphics adapter driver. Their auto-detect "Option 2: Automatically find drivers for my NVIDIA products" said "The NVIDIA Smart Scan was unable to evaluate your system hardware. Please use Option 1 to manually find drivers for your NVIDIA products." So I downloaded 310.70-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe, which lists 9400 GT under supported products, but when I run it, it says: "NVIDIA Installer cannot continue This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." Connected the display to the on-board Intel graphics (G41 Intel Express), removed the NVIDIA card and rebooted, changed to internal graphics in CMOS. Again it installs the MS Basic Display Adapter, and can't properly run my s/w that needs OpenGL. It runs on other machines with Intel Express graphics (WinXP and 7) Shut down and pulled out the power cord. Held start button to discharge all capacitors. Removed and re-inserted NVIDIA adapter in PCI-E slot and made sure properly seated. Connected the monitor to the card, screwed plug to socket. Reconnected power cord. Started and checked in BIOS that Primary Graphics Adapter was set to PCI-E. Started Windows. Uninstalled MS Basic Display Adapter in Device Manager. Screen blanks briefly, reappears. No Graphics adapter entry was then visible in Device Manager. Restarted PC. MS Basic Display Adapter Visible again in Device Manager. Clicked in Device Manager View Show hidden devices. No other graphics adapter appears, no unknown devices. Rebooted. Tried Scan for Hardware changes. None detected. Tried right-click on MS Basic Display Adapter Properties Driver Update Driver... Search automatically. It replied that it had determined driver was up to date. I checked that there were no graphic driver-related entries in Programs and Features that I could delete (none). Searched for any other drivers with nvidia in their name and deleted them, just keeping the 306.97 installer exe file. Did a Windows Update. Ran GPU-Z which shows (main items): Microsoft Basic Display Adapter GPU G72 BIOS 5.72.22.76.88 Device ID 10DE - 01D5 DDR2 Bus Width 32 Bit Memory size 64MB Driver Version nvlddmkm 6.2.9200.16384 (ForceWare 0.00) / Win8 64 NVIDIA SLI Unknown in the drop-down at the foot, "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" is the only option If I swap hard disks in that machine to one with a Ubuntu 10.4 installation (originally installed on the same PC), lspci shows "VGA compatible controller as NVIDIA Corporation Device 01d5 (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])" and "kernel driver in use: nvidia" I'm out of ideas for new things to try and would be really grateful of suggestions. Thanks!

  • How do I make lambda functions generic in Scala?

    - by Electric Coffee
As most of you probably know you can define functions in 2 ways in scala, there's the 'def' method and the lambda method... making the 'def' kind generic is fairly straight forward def someFunc[T](a: T) { // insert body here what I'm having trouble with here is how to make the following generic: val someFunc = (a: Int) => // insert body here of course right now a is an integer, but what would I need to do to make it generic? val someFunc[T] = (a: T) => doesn't work, neither does val someFunc = [T](a: T) => Is it even possible to make them generic, or should I just stick to the 'def' variant?

  • How could I know if an object is derived from a specific generic class?

    - by Edison Chuang
Suppose that I have an object then how could I know if the object is derived from a specific generic class. For example: public class GenericClass<T> { } public bool IsDeriveFrom(object o) { return o.GetType().IsSubclassOf(typeof(GenericClass)); //will throw exception here } please notice that the code above will throw an exception. The type of the generic class cannot be retrieved directly because there is no type for a generic class without a type parameter provided.

  • Imperative vs. LINQ Performance on WP7

    - by Bil Simser
Jesse Liberty had a nice post presenting the concepts around imperative, LINQ and fluent programming to populate a listbox. Check out the post as it’s a great example of some foundational things every .NET programmer should know. I was more interested in what the IL code that would be generated from imperative vs. LINQ was like and what the performance numbers are and how they differ. The code at the instruction level is interesting but not surprising. The imperative example with it’s creating lists and loops weighs in at about 60 instructions. .csharpcode, .csharpcode pre { font-size: small; color: black; font-family: consolas, "Courier New", courier, monospace; In fact if you have ReSharper installed you’ll see a squiggly (technical term) in the imperative code that says “Hey Dude, I can convert this to LINQ if you want to be c00L!” (or something like that, it’s the 2010 geek version of Clippy). What about the fluent version? As Jon correctly pointed out in the comments, when you compare the IL for the LINQ code and the IL for the fluent code it’s the same. LINQ and the fluent interface are just syntactical sugar so you decide what you’re most comfortable with. At the end of the day they’re both the same. Now onto the numbers. Again I expected the imperative version to be better performing than the LINQ version (before I saw the IL that was generated). Call it womanly instinct. A gut feel. Whatever. Some of the numbers are interesting though. For Jesse’s example of 50 items, the numbers were interesting. The imperative sample clocked in at 7ms while the LINQ version completed in 4. As the number of items went up, the elapsed time didn’t necessarily climb exponentially. At 500 items they were pretty much the same and the results were similar up to about 50,000 items. After that I tried 500,000 items where the gap widened but not by much (2.2 seconds for imperative, 2.3 for LINQ). It wasn’t until I tried 5,000,000 items where things were noticeable. Imperative filled the list in 20 seconds while LINQ took 8 seconds longer (although personally I wouldn’t suggest you put 5 million items in a list unless you want your users showing up at your door with torches and pitchforks). Here’s the table with the full results. Method/Items 50 500 5,000 50,000 500,000 5,000,000 Imperative 7ms 7ms 38ms 223ms 2230ms 20974ms LINQ/Fluent 4ms 6ms 41ms 240ms 2310ms 28731ms Like I said, at the end of the day it’s not a huge difference and you really don’t want your users waiting around for 30 seconds on a mobile device filling lists. In fact if Windows Phone 7 detects you’re taking more than 10 seconds to do any one thing, it considers the app hung and shuts it down. The results here are for Windows Phone 7 but frankly they're the same for desktop and web apps so feel free to apply it generally. From a programming perspective, choose what you like. Some LINQ statements can get pretty hairy so I usually fall back with my simple mind and write it imperatively. If you really want to impress your friends, write it old school then let ReSharper do the hard work for! Happy programming!

  • Installazione ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 su Ubuntu 11.10

    - by Antonio
Cordiali Saluti Antonio Giordano

  • Turning laptop into WAP using netgear WNA1100? (stuck at hostapd)

    - by Vivek Sharma
I have a Netgear WNA1100 usb wifi adapter. I have installed Atheros driver from Forum Details (btw name of the file is ath9k_htc-installer.1.0.1-maverick-fixed.deb). I wish to make a setup like connectify(windows) on ubuntu, so that I can connect my phone wirelessly to my laptop via Netgear WNA1100 (behaving as AP) and eventually use internet via my wired lan. I have installed the above mentioned driver, hostapd and hostap-utils. Following is my hostapd.conf file. ssid=vks interface=wlan1 # The interface name of the card driver=ath9k_htc # The card driver macaddr_acl=0 accept_mac_file=/etc/hostapd.accept deny_mac_file=/etc/hostapd.deny ieee80211x=1 # Use 802.1X authentication auth_algs=1 ignore_broadcast_ssid=0 wpa=2 wpa_passphrase=88888888 wpa_key_mgmt=WPA-PSK wpa_pairwise=TKIP rsn_pairwise=CCMP When i run sudo hostapd /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf I get an error invalid/unknown driver 'ath9k_htc # The card driver I think the driver is installed fine, as i can see the blue led blinking on the netgear adapter, which was not blinking earlier. Can someone please guide me how to achieve this setup? I will appreciate an example hostapd.conf file with a simple wpa_psk security setup. Please be detailed and descriptive with commands. How to run and end it. Following is output from lsmod, i have only pasted the entries which had ath and ath related info. Which driver shall i use. • Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS and Nvidia dirver (304.51) 64bit: problem 640x480

    - by nibianaswen
I have a problem with this configuration: Asus K55V, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Nvidia driver 304.51. I have remove the nouveau driver with: apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau I installed the official nvidia driver (from www.nvidia.com) but when I reboot the PC the resolution of screen is only 640x480 and the monitor is resized. Mo solution at this problem if i change the xorg.conf. Now i have uninstall the nvidia driver and reinstall with sudo apt-get purge nvidia-current sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current When I reboot the screen resolution and size is OK, but if I start nvidia-setting I received the message: You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. and with command: sudo lshw -c display | grep driver I received configuration: driver=i915 latency=0 This sound like the system is using the Intel card. When I launch command lspci | grep VGA the output is: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge Graphics Controller (rev 09) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation Device 1058 (rev ff) And there is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I have read a lot of guides on internet but without success.. How i can use nvidia card with the driver that i have installed?

  • dpkg reporting as installed, uninstalled kernels

    - by Tony Martin
I have run the following command to remove old kernels: dpkg -l 'linux-*' | sed '/^ii/!d;/'"$(uname -r | sed "s/\(.*\)-\([^0-9]\+\)/\1/")"'/d;s/^[^ ]* [^ ]* \([^ ]*\).*/\1/;/[0-9]/!d' | xargs sudo apt-get -y purge and only the current kernel is now installed, which I have confirmed in synaptic and by checking my boot partition. However, when I run: dpkg --list | grep linux-image I get the following response: rc linux-image-3.13.0-30-generic 3.13.0-30.55 amd64 Linux kernel image for version 3.13.0 on 64 bit x86 SMP rc linux-image-3.13.0-32-generic 3.13.0-32.57 amd64 Linux kernel image for version 3.13.0 on 64 bit x86 SMP ii linux-image-3.13.0-34-generic 3.13.0-34.60 amd64 Linux kernel image for version 3.13.0 on 64 bit x86 SMP rc linux-image-extra-3.13.0-30-generic 3.13.0-30.55 amd64 Linux kernel extra modules for version 3.13.0 on 64 bit x86 SMP rc linux-image-extra-3.13.0-32-generic 3.13.0-32.57 amd64 Linux kernel extra modules for version 3.13.0 on 64 bit x86 SMP ii linux-image-extra-3.13.0-34-generic 3.13.0-34.60 amd64 Linux kernel extra modules for version 3.13.0 on 64 bit x86 SMP ii linux-image-generic 3.13.0.34.40 amd64 Generic Linux kernel image Probably not a problem, but just wondering why versions -30 and -32 are reported as present. Can it be rectified? TIA

  • "Unmet Dependencies" problem when trying apt-get install

    - by GChorn
Anytime I try to install python packages using the command: sudo apt-get install python-package I get the following output: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these: The following packages have unmet dependencies: linux-headers-generic : Depends: linux-headers-3.2.0-36-generic but it is not going to be installed linux-headers-generic-pae : Depends: linux-headers-3.2.0-36-generic-pae but it is not going to be installed linux-image-generic : Depends: linux-image-3.2.0-36-generic but it is not going to be installed E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution). This seems to have started when these same three packages showed up in Ubuntu's Update Manager and kicked an error when I tried to install them there. Based on the suggestion in the output above, I tried running: sudo apt-get -f install But this only gave me several instances of the following error: dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/linux-image-3.2.0-36-generic_3.2.0-36.57_i386.deb (--unpack): unable to create `/lib/modules/3.2.0-36-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/carl9170/carl9170.ko.dpkg-new' (while processing `./lib/modules/3.2.0-36-generic/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ath/carl9170/carl9170.ko'): No space left on device Now maybe I'm way off-base here, but I'm wondering if the error could be coming from the "No space left on device" part? The thing is, I'm running Ubuntu as a VirtualBox VM but I've got it set to dynamically increase its virtual hard drive space as needed, so why am I still getting this error? Here's my output when I use dh -f: Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 6.9G 5.7G 869M 88% / udev 494M 4.0K 494M 1% /dev tmpfs 201M 784K 200M 1% /run none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock none 501M 76K 501M 1% /run/shm VB_Shared_Folder 466G 271G 195G 59% /media/sf_VB_Shared_Folder When I perform sudo apt-get -f install and the system says, After this operation, 192 MB of additional disk space will be used. Does that mean 192 MB of my virtual machine's current memory, or 192 MB on top of the rest of my free space? As I said, my machine normally dynamically allocates additional memory from the host machine, so I don't see why there would be memory restrictions at all...
