• Enforce "equals" in an interface

  I have an interface and I want everyone who implements this interface to implements an overrridden "equals" method. Is there a way to make sure that happens? The way I guess this will happen is that the class that implements my interface will automatically get the equals from Object therefore making the interface happy.

  Many Windows apps (like Skype or MSN for instance) don't let you start multiple instances, rather trying to run it a 2nd time just leaves the existing version running. Is this typically done in some simple way - the start-menu shortcut is a 'wrapper' app around the main app - or is there some registry magic you can do to delegate the problem to Windows itself? Specifically dealing with Win32 here (unmanaged C++) but happy to hear more general solutions as long as they are workable on Windows XP or alter.

  IIRC the situation is that IE simply doesn't support rounded corners, but some other browsers need browser-specific extensions... either FF or web-kit, I don't recall. I'm happy to use it in some cases and let IE fall-back to square corners, but does using browser-extension CSS break validation... I quite like having my site validate AND work on IE6.

  I've been using Putty for years now and it seems kind of dated. What are some good alternatives to Putty that use tabs to manage console sessions (managing individual putty windows is a messy pita). Edit: I've found the holy grail of SSH clients on SO, the PuTTY Connection Manager. Its the same old client with a new face :). • Kickstart PXE Boot Installation not working

  I tried installing PXE Boot Installation Server on RHEL 6.0. I seem to have done everything according to the page: http://www.linux-sxs.org/internet_serving/pxeboot.html. In my case, the client boots, gets DHCP IP address from our server, connects to the Kickstart server too, but then nothing happens. It shows: Loading 192.168.1.101: pxe.linux.0 ..... 192.168.1.101 in my kickstart server. Did any one face such a situation? I'm using a test env on Oracle Virtualbox with DNS Server on RHEL 6.0, DHCP Server on CentOS 6.0 and Kickstart server on RHEL 6.0. The image I'm trying to install is that of REHL 6.0! • Adding Facebook IPv6 to Centos, getting CurlException 7

  I'm correctly get following error. After searching about this issue, correct me if i'm wrong, I believe that adding/configuring IPv6 should solve the problem. • RAID 0 performance gains?

  I'm building a new computer over the summer. I'm fairly competent in computer hardware, and am thus building the computer from scratch. I have everything planned out, but I was wondering about RAID. I asked which RAID I should use earlier, but now that it's pretty clear that RAID 1 isn't really that great, I think I'll go with cloud-backup instead of disk-redundancy. However, I still face a choice: use two 1TB drives as two 1TB drives, or combine them into a RAID 0 striped array. Is there any performance gain at all? I know that if one drive dies, everything is gone, so is the performance gain worth it? I'm building a pretty advanced computer, with SLI video cards and a fast CPU, so I'm thinking RAID 0 would give me some good hard drive performance. From your experience, is RAID 0 viable?

• How to configure Linux to act as a Bluetooth RFCOMM SPP server?

  I'm writing a phone app for Android that connects to a bluetooth RFCOMM device in my car. My phone app talks AT commands with it. For development work, I often need to communicate with the device to try different commands and things. My neighbors are starting to think I'm weird because I sit in my car for hours on end with my laptop screen shining on my face, typing away like a script kiddie. I'd much rather configure one of my many Linux servers to act as a bluetooth RFCOMM device and allow me to connect to it (indoors, while I sit on my couch). I imagine I have to start with something like sdptool add SP But then what? I'm perfectly happy writing a perl app to handle the I/O, but I just don't know how to make the bluez stack accept connections and subsequently pipe that stream to a perl app.

• SketchUp: Weird regions in sketch

  I'm using SketchUp 8.0.15158. My sketch has weird regions/lines in it that I can't explain or get rid of. I've redrawn almost the whole thing and the lines persist! See here, highlighted in yellow: These dotted lines only show up when I triple-click the back face to select the whole object. Here's what the sketch looks like without selections: What are these lines and how can I get rid of them? They are causing weird issues that I can't seem to get around.

• Java Problem when i upgraded from IE 7 to IE 8

  I face problem with upgrading IE8 related to JAVA. The problem only with IE8, IE7 is OK and I have the latest Java version. After I upgrade the IE8, the graphics which has dynamics reading from the server is not updating and it shows NaN. I tried the following : - upgrade the server win2003 with latest Java version(JRE and JDT) , but the problem still exist in cliend PC(XP). -I upgraded the server IE8, then all user lost the connection even from inside the server. then I recall the prev version IE7.

• Load balanced asp.net websites and required memory usage

  Each of my servers has 8Gb RAM and the memory usage hovers around 7Gb. I have a load balancer available to me but at the moment I'm worried that putting my sites through it will cause the platform to fall over. The load balancer would be configured with a sticky round-robin where a new connection is round robin but subsequent connections for the same source ip will remain on the same server (until a limit is reached). Thats all standard stuff. How do I know what memory usage my sites will need across the platform when I put them through the load balancer? Rather than knowing that a site is using 150mb on a particular server I could face a situation where the 150mb is taken up on each of the servers. I know that with only 1 gb free I could have a serious problem on my hands. If I free up some memory then how can I work out what I need to have free to prevent this from happening? Thanks Matt

• MacBook Pro 15in High-res hard to read. What setting should I change?

  I just bought a new MacBook Pro with the high-res screen (1680x1050), but I noticed that all text is so small that to read it my face has to be like 18 inches away. When I adjusted the resolution to be the next sizes down (1440 x 852, and 1440 x 852 stretched), as well as all the other smaller sizes it made everything look blurry (similarly to when you use Command + Scroll to zoom in, how the text is really soft on the edges, and difficult to read). Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing, or another resolution settings area that I can use. I feel like this 2800 dollar notebook may be only good for movie watching otherwise. • Can a power failure or forceful shutdown damage hardware?

  In an unrelated Internet forum I got into a discussion about hardware damage from forceful shutdowns (holding the power button for 5 seconds) and power failures. I was in the opinion that normal PC hardware does not suffer from this - after all, it's not much different than what they experience under a standard shutdown. But another person thought that it could do physical harm to the hard drive and possibly other components as well. He also said that the journaling features of filesystems are useless in face of power failures and were intended to help mitigate damage from system crashes. Now... I think this is nonsense, but then again I lack the experience and knowledge to say it with certainty. Perhaps someone else is more knowledgeable in this area and can shed light on this burning issue? :)

• Windows 8 Task Manager without elevating?

  In Windows Vista and Windows 7, the task manager ran non-elevated, and you didn't face a UAC prompt unless you chose "View Processes of All Users". In Windows 8 Preview, out of the box the Task Manager starts elevated every time. How can I configure it to start non-elevated so I don't get hit with a UAC prompt every time I check CPU usage or view the list of running processes to see if an application closed completely? (I am not looking for answers which involve weakening UAC, and I ask the community's help in downvoting any such suggestions.)

• Swiching webhosting company & database erros.

  Well here comes the situation. I used to have CompanyA for webhosting. (The hosting plan was a shared one). I decided to change the hosting provider and transfer my website to CompanyB, (exclusive IP). The issue that i face is that my webpage is now displayed in two different IP addresses. So i decided to turn-off the website served by the CompanyA. Now the problem is that my database driven website, served by CompanyB, is not driven anymore, although i have added the A record mssql.mywebsite.com with the ipaddress of the database. (The database is served by dedicated db's server). So, what am i doing wrong here?

• Feed Reader's - Looking for some suggestions

  I am doing my best to make it a point to keep an eye on some blogs of people in my industry, and am looking for a good feed reader. I use chrome. I live in chrome, and if I am not in Chrome, I am using xterm. Yet, I do get my tweets in Pidgin and do all my talking discussion from that. Maybe it makes sense to integrate something in that? I see web feed readers as a bit too distant to make good use of it (eg, have to open a page, and less 'in your face'). Although, I am a big fan of google stuff and use google apps and google voice and google cals and google docs, etc.. So how is feedburner? I like to preserver time. It'd be interesting if I could read my feeds offline on my laptop or ChromeOS CR-48 with offline websites? Well, would love to hear what you guys are doing and suggest.

• Best Way to Archive Digital Photos and Avoid Duplicate File Names

  This problem pertains to archiving of digital pictures taken from multiple cameras. Answers here covered the general topic of the-mechanics-of-backups: How do you archive digital photos and videos ? I however face another problem. Having multiple cameras (canon) and multiple SD cards (mixed and matched at random), I have found that different SD cards have different photos with the same file name, i.e. two different photos each name IMG_3141.JPG. Additionally, for better or worse, I've backed up the files to multiple places and need to consolidate my backups. I want to eliminate duplicates, but not clobber files. The only way I can think of is to append the code (md5 or sha1) to the file name, i.e. IMG_3141.JPG becomes IMG_3141_KT229QZ31415926ASDF.JPG, then sorting them out Any better ways? • NetBeans not able to include files

  IDE: NetBeans 6.8 OS: Fedora 12 I have been having this problem for a long time now. NetBeans is almost impossible to use with C/C++, maybe because it was not made for it in first place. Anyways what happens is this: I have this setup for C/C++ But, the programs are displayed like this: It is not able to find any header file!! I know it is a C++ program, the same thing happens with #include <cstdio>. As a result, it is not able to find the definition of printf and fails. Same thing happens with a .c file. Also, gcc works fine from the command line. Did someone face this problem before? What do I need to do to make this work?
