  • Cascading dropdownlist jQuery does not retain value on post back.

    - by John Smith
    I have two html select server control on an add data form page. the user selects a value in the first html select server control and then values are populated into the second html select server control with jquery. The problem is when a a user clicks the save button and the page posts back, the values are no longer in the drop down list populated by jQuery. The drop downlist is a html server control, shouldn't it retain the values on post-back? How can I retain the values and save the selected value to the database? $(document).ready(function() { $("#<%=ddlCourseWare.ClientID %>").change(function() { var courseWareId = this.value; try { $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "Left_SubCategory.aspx/GetTabData", data: "{courseWareId:" + courseWareId + "}", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", success: function(data) { var result = json_parse(data.d); $("#<%=ddlTabType.ClientID %>")[0].innerHTML = ''; if (result.length > 0) { $.each(result, function(key, item) { $("#<%=ddlTabType.ClientID %>").append($("<option></option>").val(item.id).html(item.TabName)); }); } else { $("#<%=ddlTabType.ClientID %>").append($("<option></option>").val('0').html('--Select--')); } }, error: function(request, status, error) { alert(request.responseText); } }); } catch (ex) { alert(ex); } }); }); HTML <select id="ddlCourseWare" name="ddlCourseWare" runat="server" Width="230px" class="TextBox" Height="18px" > <select id="ddlTabType" name="ddlTabType" runat="server" Width="230px" class="TextBox" Height="18px" onchange="BindMainCat();"> <option>--Select--</option> </select> C# private void BindCourseWare() { ddlCourseWare.DataSource = courseWare.GetCourseWare(); ddlCourseWare.DataTextField = "CourseWareType"; ddlCourseWare.DataValueField = "id"; ddlCourseWare.DataBind(); ddlCourseWare.Items.Insert(0, "----Select Course Ware----"); } [WebMethod] public static string GetTabData(int courseWareId) { var result = new CourseWare().GetCourseTabByCoursewareId(courseWareId); JavaScriptSerializer json_tabs = new JavaScriptSerializer(); string jsonArray_tabs = json_tabs.Serialize(result); return jsonArray_tabs; } protected void btnSave_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { int mainCategoryID1 = int.Parse(ddlTabType.Value); // not working int mainCategoryID2 = int.Parse(Request["ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$ddlTabType"]); // working but always return same value means the upper value (selected index 1) }

  • Properties of bad fibonacci algorithm

    - by John Smith
I was looking at the canonical bad fibonacci algorithm the other day: public static int fib(int n) { // Base Case if (n < 2) return 1; else return fib(n-1) + fib(n-2); } I made the interesting observation. When you call fib(n), then for k between 1 and n fib(k) is called precisely fib(n-k+1) times (or fib(n-k) depending on your definition of fib(0) ). Also, fib(0) is called fib(n-k-1) times. This then allows me to find that in fib(100) there are exactly 708449696358523830149 calls to the fib function. Are there other interesting observations on this function you know of?

  • Getting JRuby to work in RubyMine

    - by John Baker
I setup the proper SDK because all my ruby code will compile but RubyMine complains that it can't find the any of my java classes? Is this a flaw or is there a way to get it to recognizewhere the classes are? Here is my code, I have underlined all the things its complaining about require 'java' include_class 'java.awt.event.ActionListener' include_class 'javax.swing.JButton' include_class 'javax.swing.JFrame' class ClickAction include ActionListener def action_performed(event) puts "Button got clicked." end end Is there a way around this because I'd love to buy RubyMine if it's able to inform me of what Java classes and methods I can pick from. Thanks

  • Is it possible to reset NSURLConnection after providing credentials?

    - by John
I am calling a REST service that requires basic auth and I respond to the didReceiveAuthenticationChallenge delegate OK NSURLCredential *credential = [[NSURLCredential alloc] initWithUser:self.user password:self.password persistence:NSURLCredentialPersistenceForSession]; [[challenge sender] useCredential:credential forAuthenticationChallenge:challenge]; [credential release]; The Credentials are valid for the Session but I would like for my App to be able to switch between servers and therefore need to "reset" the Session so it asks again for a challenge. I can of course try the option of not storing the credentials for the Session and supply them for each call but this does not seem like a good idea. Any ideas would be appreciated!

  • Why won't my UISearchDisplayController fire the didSelectRowAtIndexPath moethod?

    - by John Wells
I am having an odd problem when searching a UITableView using a UISearchDisplayController. The UITableViewController is a subclass of another UITableViewController with a working didSelectRowAtIndexPath method. Without searching the controller handles selections fine, sending the superclass a didSelectRowAtIndexPath call, but if I select a cell when searching the superclass receives nothing but the cell is highlighted. Below is the code from my subclass. @implementation AdvancedViewController @synthesize searchDisplayController, dict, filteredList; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Programmatically set up search bar UISearchBar *mySearchBar = [[UISearchBar alloc] init]; mySearchBar.delegate = self; [mySearchBar setAutocapitalizationType:UITextAutocapitalizationTypeNone]; [mySearchBar sizeToFit]; self.tableView.tableHeaderView = mySearchBar; // Programmatically set up search display controller searchDisplayController = [[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:mySearchBar contentsController:self]; [self setSearchDisplayController:searchDisplayController]; [searchDisplayController setDelegate:self]; [searchDisplayController setSearchResultsDataSource:self]; // Parse data from server NSData * jsonData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:url]]; NSArray * items = [[NSArray alloc] initWithArray:[[CJSONDeserializer deserializer] deserializeAsArray:jsonData error:nil]]; // Init variables dict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; listIndex = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; fullList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; filteredList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; // Get each item and format it for the UI for(NSMutableArray * item in items) { // Get the first letter NSString * firstKey = [[[item objectAtIndex:0] substringWithRange:NSMakeRange(0,1)] uppercaseString]; // Put symbols and numbers in the same section if ([[firstKey stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[[NSCharacterSet letterCharacterSet] invertedSet]] isEqualToString:@""]) firstKey = @"#"; // If there isn't a section with this key if (![listIndex containsObject:firstKey]) { // Add the key to the index for faster access (because it's already sorted) [listIndex addObject:firstKey]; // Add the key to the unordered dictionary [dict setObject:[NSMutableArray array] forKey:firstKey]; } // Add the object to the dictionary [[dict objectForKey:firstKey] addObject:[[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjects:item forKeys:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"name", @"url", nil]]]; // Add the object to the list for simple searching [fullList addObject:[[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjects:item forKeys:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"name", @"url", nil]]]; } filteredList = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:[fullList count]]; } #pragma mark - #pragma mark Table view data source // Custom method for object oriented data access - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView dataForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath withKey:(NSString *)key { return (NSString *)((tableView == self.searchDisplayController.searchResultsTableView) ? • How to automatically add SVN commit messages and revision numbering to java file?

    - by John
I'm working on an Apache Wicket project in Eclipse with Maven2 -- my SCM is Subversion. I've got Subclipse set up which I use to commit changes to the repository. I've seen several projects with nice headers containing the current revision number and at the bottom of the java source file there's a list of all the changes that have been committed to the file including the comments that were passed. Is there any way of achieving this sort of behaviour automatically? At work I'm using MKS which does this automatically but I am yet to figure out how to achieve this with SVN and Eclipse.

  • Making a Text-To-Speech Wrapper in Android

    - by John Montgomery
I am attempting to create a wrapper class for Google Android's Text-To-Speech functionality. However, I'm having trouble finding a way to have the system pause until after the onInit function has finished. Attached at the bottom is something of a solution I created based on what I found here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1160876/android-speech-how-can-you-read-text-in-android However, this solution does not seem to work. Any thoughts on why this might not be working, or what would be a good idea in order to make sure that any Speak() calls happen after my onInit() call? public class SpeechSynth implements OnInitListener { private TextToSpeech tts; static final int TTS_CHECK_CODE = 0; private int ready = 0; private ReentrantLock waitForInitLock = new ReentrantLock(); SpeechSynth( Activity screen ) { ready = 0; tts = new TextToSpeech( screen, this ); waitForInitLock.lock(); } public void onInit(int status) { if (status == TextToSpeech.SUCCESS) { ready = 1; } waitForInitLock.unlock(); } public int Speak( String text ) { if( ready == 1 ) { tts.speak(text, TextToSpeech.QUEUE_ADD, null); return 1; } else { return 0; } } } I have been able to make it so that I can pass a string of text through the constructor, then have it played in the onInit() function. However, I would really like to avoid having to destroy and re-create the whole text-to-speech engine every time I need to have my program say something different.

  • Rules engine for spatial and temporal reasoning?

    - by John
I have an application that receives a number of datums that characterize spatial / temporal processes. It then filters these datums and creates actions which are then sent to processes that perform the actions. Rinse and repeat. At present, I have a collection of custom filters that perform a lot of complicated spatial/temporal calculations. Many times as I discuss my system to individuals in my company, they ask if I'm using a rules engine. I have yet to find a rules engine that is able to reason well temporally and spatially. (Things like When are two entities ever close? Is entity A ever in region B? If entity C is near entity D but oriented backwards relative to C then perform action D.) I have looked at Drools, Cyc, Jess in the past (say 3-4 years ago). It's time to re-examine the state of the art. Any suggestions? Any standards that you know of that support this kind of reasoning? Any defacto standards? Any applications? Thanks!

  • R regex to validate user input is correct.

    - by John
I'm trying to practice writing better code, so I wanted to validate my input sequence with regex to make sure that the first thing I get is a single letter A to H only, and the second is a number 1 to 12 only. I'm new to regex and not sure what the expression should look like. I'm also not sure what type of error R would throw if this is invalidated? In Perl it would be something like this I think: =~ m/([A-M]?))/) Here is what I have so far for R: input_string = "A1" first_well_row = unlist(strsplit(input_string, ""))[1] # get the letter out first_well_col = unlist(strsplit(input_string, ""))[2] # get the number out

  • Attempting to extract a pattern within a string

    - by Brian
I'm attempting to extract a given pattern within a text file, however, the results are not 100% what I want. Here's my code: import java.util.regex.Matcher; import java.util.regex.Pattern; public class ParseText1 { public static void main(String[] args) { String content = "<p>Yada yada yada <code> foo ddd</code>yada yada ...\n" + "more here <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe> etc etc\n" + "more here again <2004-09-24> bar<Bob Joe> <Fred Kej> etc etc\n" + "more here again <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe><Fred Kej> etc etc\n" + "and still more <2004-08-21><2004-08-21> baz <John Doe> and now <code>the end</code> </p>\n"; Pattern p = Pattern .compile("<[1234567890]{4}-[1234567890]{2}-[1234567890]{2}>.*?<[^%0-9/]*>", Pattern.MULTILINE); Matcher m = p.matcher(content); // print all the matches that we find while (m.find()) { System.out.println(m.group()); } } } The output I'm getting is: <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe> <2004-09-24> bar<Bob Joe> <Fred Kej> <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe><Fred Kej> <2004-08-21><2004-08-21> baz <John Doe> and now <code> The output I want is: <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe> <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe> <2004-08-24> bar<Bob Joe> <2004-08-21> baz <John Doe> In short, the sequence of "date", "text (or blank)", and "name" must be extracted. Everything else should be avoided. For example the tag "Fred Kej" did not have any "date" tag before it, therefore, it should be flagged as invalid. Also, as a side question, is there a way to store or track the text snippets that were skipped/rejected as were the valid texts. Thanks, Brian

  • JDBC Licensing - Packaging jdbc in jar

    - by John
Hi there. I'm packaging my open-source non-commercial java application in a .jar and I'd like to package the JDBC mysql-connector with it as it is a dependency. The issue that I am having is that I'm uncertain whether or not this is frowned upon or even illegal due to the JDBC license. I've also got the jdbc mysql-connector jar in my code repository. -- Has anyone been in the same situation? Thanks in advance.

  • Scheme Depth-first search of a graph function

    - by John Retallack
This is a homework question,I'm trying to do a Depth-first search function in Scheme,Here's the code I've written so far: (define explore (?(node visited) (let* ([neighbors (force (cdr node))] [next (nextNode visited neighbors)] [is-visited (member? node visited)]) (cond ;if I have no unvisited neighbours print current node and go up one level [(equal? next #f) (begin (display (car node)) (display " "))] ;if current node is not visited and I have unvisited neighbors ;print current node, mark as visited and visit it's neighbors [(and (equal? is-visited #f) (not (equal? next #f))) (begin (display (car node)) (display " ") (explore next (cons node visited)))]) ;go and visit the next neighbor (if (not (equal? (nextNode (cons next visited) neighbors) #f )) (explore (nextNode (cons next visited) neighbors) (cons node visited)))))) 'node' is the current node 'visited' is a list in witch I keep track of the nodes I visited 'nextNode' is a function that returns the first unvisited neighbor if any or #f otherwise 'member?' test's if a node is in the visited list The Graph representation is using adjacent made using references to nodes with letrec so that's why I use force in 'neighbors': Eg: (letrec ([node1 (list "NY" (delay (list node2 node3)))],where node2 and node3 are defined as node1 The problem witch I'm dealing with is that my visited lists looses track of some of the nodes I visited when I come out of recursion,How can I fix this ?

  • Managing timezone in php with ics date/time format

    - by John
Ok, I'm using an ICS parser utility to parse google calendar ICS files. It works great, except google is feeding me the times of the events at UCT.. so I need to subtract 5 hours now, and 6 hours when daylight savings happens. To get the start time I'm using: $timestart = date("g:iA",strtotime(substr($event['DTSTART'], 9, -3))); //$event['DTSTART'] feeds me back the date in ICS format: 20100406T200000Z So any suggestions how to handle timezone and daylight savings time? Thanks in advance

  • Beanshell in Ant yielding, "Unable to create javax script engine for beanshell"

    - by John B.
Greeting, I'm trying to put some Beanshell script in my Ant build.xml file. I've followed the Ant manual as well as I can but I keep getting "Unable to create javax script engine for beanshell" when I run Ant. Here is the test target I wrote mostly from examples in the Ant manual: <target name="test-target"> <script language="beanshell" setbeans="true"> <classpath> <fileset dir="c:\TEMP" includes="*.jar" /> </classpath> System.out.println("Hello world"); </script> </target> My beanshell "bsh-2.0b4.jar" file is on the script task's classpath the way the manual recommended. Hope I have the right file. I'm working in c:\TEMP right now. I've been googling and trying for a while now. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • [MFC] I can't re-parent a window

    - by John
Following on from this question, now I have a clearer picture what's going on... I have a MFC application with no main window, which exposes an API to create dialogs. When I call some of these methods repeatedly, the dialogs created are parented to each other instead of all being parented to the desktop... I have no idea why. But anyway even after creation, I am unable to change the parent back to NULL or CWnd::GetDesktopWindow()... if I call SetParent followed by GetParent, nothing has changed. So apart from the really weird question of why Windows is magically parenting each dialog to the last one created, is there anything I'm missing to be able to set these windows as children of the desktop? UPDATED: I have found the reason for all this, but not the solution. From my dialog constructor, we end up in: BOOL CDialog::CreateIndirect(LPCDLGTEMPLATE lpDialogTemplate, CWnd* pParentWnd, void* lpDialogInit, HINSTANCE hInst) { ASSERT(lpDialogTemplate != NULL); if (pParentWnd == NULL) pParentWnd = AfxGetMainWnd(); m_lpDialogInit = lpDialogInit; return CreateDlgIndirect(lpDialogTemplate, pParentWnd, hInst); } Note: if (pParentWnd == NULL)pParentWnd = AfxGetMainWnd(); The call-stack from my dialog constructor looks like this: mfc80d.dll!CDialog::CreateIndirect(const DLGTEMPLATE * lpDialogTemplate=0x005931a8, CWnd * pParentWnd=0x00000000, void * lpDialogInit=0x00000000, HINSTANCE__ * hInst=0x00400000) mfc80d.dll!CDialog::CreateIndirect(void * hDialogTemplate=0x005931a8, CWnd * pParentWnd=0x00000000, HINSTANCE__ * hInst=0x00400000) mfc80d.dll!CDialog::Create(const char * lpszTemplateName=0x0000009d, CWnd * pParentWnd=0x00000000) mfc80d.dll!CDialog::Create(unsigned int nIDTemplate=157, CWnd * pParentWnd=0x00000000) MyApp.exe!CMyDlg::CMyDlg(CWnd * pParent=0x00000000)

  • Download HTML and Images with WGet without first few lines

    - by St. John Johnson
I'm attempting to use wget with the -p option to download specific documents and the images linked in the HTML. The problem is, the site that is hosting the HTML has some non-html information preceding the HTML. This is causing wget to not interpret the document as HTML and doesn't search for images. Is there a way to have wget strip the first X lines and/or force searching for images? • SugarCRM - how to make users see only child users?

    - by John
Hello, I want to change the behaviour of Sugar CRM community version. Here's what sugar currently does: 1) Admin logs into Sugar. 2) Admin clicks on Admin tab. 3) Admin creates a new user named George with admin access 4) Under user information section, Admin makes George report to Admin (in the database, it will show users.report_to_id is the admin's user_id) 5) Admin saves and logs out 6) George logs in with his password 7) George goes to admin tab. 8) George goes to list users page and sees all users, including Admin, the person he is supposed to report to. I want to change step 8 such that George is not allowed to see the user he reports to. Additionally, he is not allowed to see his grand parent user, great grand parent user, great great grand parent user etc... George should only be able to see users that he creates. How can I achieve this? Is this even possible?

  • Why can't I source my vimrc after installing vundle?

I'm trying to get my Vim to update on the fly after editing vimrc. So I followed the instructions at Vimcast which basically source vimrc every time you hit save. • Java / Groovy Socket - Detecting the socket being closed in a non-blocking way

    - by John Arrowwood
I'm trying to create a small HTTP proxy that can re-write the request/headers as needed to suit my requirements. If one already exists, please, point me to it. Otherwise... I've written something that ALMOST works. It can do the proxy function, but not the re-write (yet). Problem is, I can't detect when the remote socket has been closed down without doing a blocking read. It is CRITICAL for the functionality of this thing that it be able to detect the socket being closed without blocking. I have SCOURED the Java API documentation, and I can't find ANY indication that it is even possible. Here's what I have: while ( this.inbound.isConnected() && this.outbound.isConnected() ) { try { while ( ( available = readFromClient.available() ) != 0 ) { if ( available > 1024 ) available = 1024 bytesRead = readFromClient.read( buffer, 0, available ) writeToServer.write( buffer, 0, bytesRead ) } while ( ( available = readFromServer.available() ) != 0 ) { if ( available > 1024 ) available = 1024 bytesRead = readFromServer.read( buffer, 0, available ) writeToClient.write( buffer, 0, bytesRead ) } } catch (e) { print e } println "Connected: " + this.inbound.isConnected() println "Bound: " + this.inbound.isBound() println "InputShutdown: " + this.inbound.isInputShutdown() println "OutputShutdown: " + this.inbound.isOutputShutdown() print "\n"; Thread.sleep( 10 ) } The tests for the socket being closed never indicate that the socket was closed. And, as I mentioned, I can't find ANY examples of how to detect the 'END OF FILE' condition on the stream without doing a blocking read. There HAS to be a way. Does anyone here know what it is?

  • MKMapView within UITableView

    - by john-london
I have a MKMapView within a UITableviewCell and I want to be able to disable scrolling of the table view when the user starts to drag within the map view. My plan had been to override the MKMapView touchesBegan/Moved etc methods and if they were called to then disable scrolling in the parent view. Scrolling in the parent view would be enabled again only when the touches in the MKMapView ended or were cancelled. My problem is that the touchesBegan/Moved methods inside MKMapView are not called - the problem is also discussed here: stackoverflow discussion. My table view is within a tab control, so I don't think I can extend UIWindow the way they describe, as there are several views that could be within the window, depending on which tab is active. How can I access the MKMapView touch events please?
