    I want to check if a word is in a list of words. word = "with" word_list = ["without", "bla", "foo", "bar"] I tried if word in set(list), but it is not yielding the wanted result due to the fact in is matching string rather than item. That is to say, "with" is a match in any of the words in the word_list but still if "with" in set(list) will say True. What is a simpler way for doing this check than manually iterate over the list?

  • LinkedHashMap vs HashMap != LinkedList vs ArrayList

    I have read that LinkedHashMap has faster iteration speed than HashMap because its elements are doubly linked to each other. Additionally, because of this, LinkedHashMap is slower when inserting or deleting elements. Presumably because these links also need to be updated. Although I can see an analogy to LinkedList vs ArrayList, in that the elements of LinkedList are also doubly-linked, I read that it iterates slower than ArrayList, and has faster insertion and deletion times. Why is this? Perhaps I am making a mistake somewhere? Cheers1

The following situation is captured from one server which I use to run scripts and control the others. The Hyper-V Manager application shows the same list as the PowerShell does. But if I run my scripts from the other two tools, which is what I mostly do, I don't have the same information available, therefore I can't manipulate the same VMs. I've also noticed that the Virtual Machine Manager shows the same list of VMs as the first two tools, PowerGUI and PowerShell ISE. Which information is valid? And how can I retrieve the correct list of VMs? How can I receive the correct information listed under Hyper-V using PowerGUI or PowerShell ISE?

Basically, iterate through a list and add elements to one list until some condition kicks in, and add the rest to another list. Is there a better way e.g. using linq ? CheckCondition() is expensive, and the lists can be huge so I'd prefer to not do anything that iterates the lists twice.

    I'm new to python, and I'm trying to get to know the list comprehensions better. I'm not even really sure if list comprehension is the word I'm looking for, since I'm not generating a list. But I am doing something similar. This is what I am trying to do: I have a list of numbers, the length of which is divisible by three. So say I have nums = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] I want to iterate over the list and get the sum of each group of three digits. Currently I am doing this: for i in range(0, len(nums), 3): nsum = a + b + c for a, b, c in nums[i, i+3] print(nsum) I know this is wrong, but is there a way to do this? I'm sure I've overlooked something probably very simple... But I can't think of another way to do this.

    Hello, I have a List which contains a list of objects and I want to remove from this list all the elements which have the same values in two of their attributes. I had though about doing something like this: List<Class1> myList; .... Set<Class1> mySet = new HashSet<Class1>(); mySet.addAll(myList); and overriding hash method in Class1 so it returns a number which depends only in the attributes I want to consider. The problem is that I need to do a different filtering in another part of the application so I can't override hash method in this way (I would need two different hash methods). What's the most efficient way of doing this filtering without overriding hash method? Thanks

My goal is to add all the data that in the list to show in a GridView. How can I do that so every time data adds to the list, the gridview uppdates? Instead of waiting that the while-statement has runned finished. When the while-statment adds a value to the list, the value adds into the gridview?
