  • UIWebView memory management

    Hello, I have a problem with memory management. I am developing an application that makes heavy use of UIWebView. This app generates dynamically lots of UIWebViews while loading content from my server. Some of these UIWebViews are quite large and have a lot of pictures. If I use instruments to detect leaks, I do not detect any. However, lots of objects are allocated and I suspect that has to do with the UIWebViews. When the webviews release because no longer needed, it appears that not all memory is released. I mean, after a request to my server the app creates an UITableView and many webviews (instruments say about 8Mb). When user tap back, all of them are released but memory usage only decrements about 2-3 Mb, and after 5-10 minutes using the app it crashes. Am I missing something? Anyone know what could be happening? Thank you!

  • how to link with static mySQL C library with Visual Studio 2008?

    Hi, My project is running fine, but its requirement for some DLLs means it cannot be simply dragged and dropped by the end user. The DLLs are not loaded when put side by side with my executable, because my executable is not an application, and its location is not in the few locations where Windows looks for DLL. I already asked a question about how to make their loading happen. None of the suggestions worked (see the question at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2637499/how-can-a-win32-app-plugin-load-its-dll-in-its-own-directory) So I am now exploring another way: get rid of the DLLs altogether, and link with static versions of them. This is failing for the last of those DLLs. So I am at this point where all but one of the libraries are statically linked, and everything is fine. The last library is the standard C library for mySQL, aka Connector/C. The problem I have may or may not be related with that origin. Whenever I switched to the static library in the linker additional dependency, I get the following errors (log at the end): 1- about 40 duplicate symbols (e.g. _toupper) mutually between LIBCMT.lib and MSVCRT.lib. Interestingly, I can't control the inclusion of these two libraries: they are from Visual Studio and automatically included. So why are these symbol duplicate when I include mySQL's static lib, but not its DLL? Its a plugin for a host application that I don't control. The port currently works, albeit with installation issues due to that lone remaining DLL. So I will be very grateful for any help.   • Looking for Light Time Management Software Suggestions (for Mac)

    I'm looking for a simple project management app that performs task scheduling, along the line of Merlin or MS Project, but no where near as robustly. I don't need to deal with other (human) resources, but I work on anything from 3 to 6 different projects at a time. What I'd like is to be able to input deadlines and tasks, and have a schedule suggested to complete them. I do technical work, but I don't think I need anything specifically for software development, especially considering I do plenty of other kinds of things, like graphic design and social media PR. I'd really like this to be dead simple, as simple as possible. Suggestions? OmniPlan, something web-based? Definitely cannot afford anything too extravagant, really looking for something under $200.     It comes up from time to time and I'm wondering of it's possible to use type info when searching in visual studio, or is there a plugin that includes this? I'd like to search for the phrase "x == " or "x.ToString();" where x is of type 'Person'. The normal regex searches are strictly searching the text as opposed to the content and I figured out a long time ago that any thought I have is never the first.

    I have a table which has approximately sixty tables, and other tables are added constantly. Each table is a part of a schema. A such quantity of tables makes it difficult to use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2008. For example, I must scroll up in object explorer to access database related functions, or scroll down each time I need to access Views or Security features. Is it possible to group several tables to be able to expand or collapse them in Object Explorer? Maybe a folder may be displayed for each schema, letting collapse the folders I don't need to use?

However, the diagram by default doesn't recognize any relationships between the classes, except inheritance and implementations. Is there a way, ideally by using Attributes, to define class and property relationships and associations in such a way that it is picked up by a new Class Diagram automatically? cheers!

    I am still new to this Memory Management stuff (Garbage Collector took care of everything in Java), but as far as I understand if you allocate memory for an object then you have to release that memory back to the computer as soon as you are finished with your object. myObject = [Object alloc]; and [myObject release]; Right now I just have 3 parts in my Objective-C .m file: @Interface, @Implementation and main. I released my object at the end of the program next to these guys: [pool drain]; return 0; But what if this program were to be a lot more complicated, would it be okay to release myObject at the end of the program? I guess a better question would be when do I release an object's allocated memory? How do I know where to place [myObject release];?

    I recently reinstalled my development machine and went from 32 bit Windows Vista to 64 bit Windows 7. I'm running VS2008. Some of my .NET applications still use J#, which now causes problems. The program still runs, but when I want to deploy it (I'm using a setup project to create a .msi), I get this error: "Visual Studio registry capture utility has encountered a problem" How can I fix this? This error does not occur with other programs (those written purely in C#).

    Which project tracking tool do you use? Does it allow programmers to bill hours worked to projects/tasks? Does it allow to track items promised vs. items delivered? Does it allow to forecast personnel needs when you have only a ballpark estimate of how many hours you are going to need for different task types? Does it integrate with your bug tracker? [Mantis] Does it integrate with your source control tool? [Subversion] Does it allow you to easily publish your schedule and current priorities to team members? Does it produce reports on any or all of the above? Am I even right in calling a tool that does those things a "Project tracking/management tool"? What does your tool have that makes you love it and use it every day? I don't really care about Gantt charts. I find Microsoft Project quite clunky for this needs (although I'm hardly an expert user).
