• How to change a grouped UITableView cell's background to black (or non-white)?

  Just want to make sure I'm not overlooking something obvious... It seems like it should be trivial to set the background color (black is fine) of a UITableView's cell to something other than white or completely transparent so that you can display your data with white text. However, with my attempts I lose the corners on my grouped table view and it all looks like crap. I've seen & understand the methods described by Matt Gallagher about customizing TableView cells with exotic gradients, etc. but wanted to be certain before heading down that path...

• Automatic counter in Ruby for each?

  I know you Ruby people will laugh at my bad Ruby code: i=0 for blah in blahs puts i.to_s + " " + blah i+=1 end I want to use a for-each and a counter... is there a better way to do it? Note: I don't know if blahs is an array or a hash, but having to do blahs[i] wouldn't make it much sexier. Also I'd like to know how to write i++ in Ruby. Edit: Technically, Matt's and Squeegy's answer came in first, but I'm giving best answer to paradoja so spread around the points a bit on SO. Also his answer had the note about versions, which is still relevant (as long as my Ubuntu 8.04 is using Ruby 1.8.6). Edit: Should've used puts "#{i} #{blah}" which is a lot more succinct.

• using array_sum() in a while loop

  Hi folks, I'm learning PHP. Having trouble understanding why this piece of code isn't working. In particular: why is the result of array_sum($x) (1596) greater than $cap? Perhaps I'm not understanding the nature of while loops, but it seems to me (looking at a print_r($x)), the loop should cut out a step before it actually does. <?php function fibonacci_sum($cap = 1000){ list( $cur, $nxt, $seq ) = array( 0, 1, array() ); while ( array_sum($seq) < $cap ) { $seq[] = $cur; $add = $cur + $nxt; $cur = $nxt; $nxt = $add; } return $seq; } $x = fibonacci_sum(); echo array_sum($x); ?> Any insight is appreciated. • Styling a hr for internet explorer

  Hey, in my quest to create as image light a site as possible, I'm looking to create two tone hr's. I've achieved this in modern browsers, but want to achieve the same effect in ie6 and 7. The current code I am using is hr { border-bottom:1px solid #FFFFFF; border-top:1px solid #dcdcdc; clear:both; height:0; border-left:0px; border-right:0px; } I've tried, with no success to make this work in ie6 and 7 without having to target the browsers specifically. • When to use Spring Integration vs. Camel?

  As a seasoned Spring user I was assuming that Spring Integration would make the most sense in a recent project requiring some (JMS) messaging capabilities (more details). After some days working with Spring Integration it still feels like a lot of configuration overhead given the amount of channels you have to configure to bring some request-response (listening on different JMS queues) communications in place.   Hello guys, I hope I can explain this right I have two input fields that require a price to be entered into them in order for donation to go through and submit. The problem that I am having is that I would like the validation process check to see if one of the two fields has a value if so then proceed to submit. If both fields are empty then alert. • Create a Font using strings pulled from a string table.

  I am writing a tool to create an otf or ttc with only characters defined in our localized string table, so we can cut down memory usage. I already have the information for the Japanese characters we are using but I am unable to find an example of creating a new font based around these characters. Does anyone know of a good example or even the interface I can access to do this? I am working in C# with .NET 3.5. I am looking into Volt and TTOasm from Microsoft, but I am not sure if they will do exactly what I need. Any information is appreciated. Thanks, Matt Smith

• How to get Jquery form plugin and Jquery validation to work together.

  Hello guys, I was hoping someone can shed some light on what might be occurring on my page. Okay what I currently have on my page is a simple form that collects first name, last name, city, state and email. Once submitted it will hit a PHP page that updates our DB and echo's back to the designted div with a class of .response. I am using jquery.validation and placing that dynamic function within the submitHandler like so: submitHandler: function(form) { $(form).ajaxSubmit({ target: '.response', // target element(s) to be updated with server response resetForm: true, success: function() { $('#commentform').hide(); $('.response').show(); } }); So what I am getting is a div that is not being populated with the echo from my php file in FF and in IE I am getting the message of thank you but the page is taking me to the update.php script in which I have the form action pointing to.   How can I get the on-screen location of a button in a toolbar? That is getting the rectangle frame of an NSToolbarItem? The [NSToolbarItem view] method seems to always return nil whenever the toolbar item is only a simple action button and thus I couldn't use the normal NSView methods to pinpoint the toolbar button's on-screen position. Background I'm trying to use Matt Gemmell's MAAttachedWindow component to point to a specific toolbar button. The component requires an NSPoint object to "point" the user to a location on the screen. So if the user entered: "orange" it should match an entry "orange' in the dictionary. Now the catch is that the user can also enter a wildcard or series of wildcard characters like say "or__ge" which would also match "orange" The key requirements are: * this should be as fast as possible. * use the smallest amount of memory to achieve it. If the size of the word list was small I could use a string containing all the words and use regular expressions. however given that the word list could contain potentially hundreds of thousands of enteries I'm assuming this wouldn't work. So is some sort of 'tree' be the way to go for this...? Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be totally appreciated! Thanks in advance, Matt

• Can't seem to get Prototype AJAX form validation to work in conjunction with Codeigniter

  Is there some kind of trick involved? Here's how I would envision it working: 1) User tries submitting the form 2) Event.observe captures this and sends an AJAX request to a special validation URL (PHP using Codeigniter) 3) If no errors were returned, continue submitting the original form 4) If errors were found, cancel form submission and display Mostly, I can't seem to get a separate AJAX validation request to work as the form continues submitting. I could use Event.stop(event), but have not found a way to re-start the process if no validation errors exist from the validation call. I'd post code, but I have about 15 examples of things I've tried and it would just clutter this question. Any ideas? :-( I didn't think form validation would be this difficult. Many thanks, - Matt

• Replacement for PEAR: MDB2 on PHP 5.3

  I've been using pear packages in php for years. I'm in the process of upgrading/moving a sites that uses the MDB2 pear package and it has not been updated for PHP 5.3.X. In 5.3, MDB2 is returning those new annoying errors. Unknown: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /usr/local/lib/php/MDB2.php on line 390 I know I can change my error reporting settings to get rid of them, but I'd rather not make any exceptions. Anyway, Is anyone else using MDB2 these days and have a solution? Are there similar database packages you recommend? Thanks. -Matt

• Remove Duplicates from JavaScript Array

  This seems like such a simple need but I've spent an inordinate amount of time trying to do this to no avail. I've looked at other questions on SO and I haven't found what I need. I have a very simple JavaScript array such as peoplenames = new Array("Mike","Matt","Nancy","Adam","Jenny","Nancy","Carl"); that may or may not contain duplicates and I need to simply remove the duplicates and put the unique values in a new array. That's it. I could point to all the codes that I've tried but I think it's useless because they don't work. If anyone has done this and can help me out I'd really appreciate it. JavaScript or jQuery solutions are both acceptable.

  I'm having trouble with Twitter's implementation of an oauth_bridge_code for the @anywhere api. I've seen a few walkthrough's on how to use this functionality but I can't seem to get the request to work for me. I'm using Ruby on Rails with the oauth gem.   Hello everyone :) I've very recently decided to teach myself c++ and win32 programming after learning vb.net, and i've got a very simple question: How can I determine what version of the Windows SDK is installed on my computer? I'm asking so I can install the latest version if it isn't installed allready, before i start playing around with c++. I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 SP1 as my IDE. • Can an app delete its own internal resources?

  I am trying to find a way to delete an internal resource after an app installs. More specifically, I have a zip file included in the apk, that I unzip to the SD Card when the app is first run. But then want to delete the now unneeded zip file (the purpose being to save the user internal phone memory). I access the zip file with, Resources resources = this.getResources(); InputStream is = resources.openRawResource(R.raw.assets); But am uncertain how to then delete the resource (if even possible). I know one may ask why not simply install the app to SD Card at download. But the app includes a screen widget, and installing apps to the SD Card and using a screen widget is problematic. • What is the flag to show the nesting of views in a Mac app?

  I have just spet the last few hours trying to find the flag to use in Terminal to launch an app with the colored outlines around the various view elements to show how they are nested. I know that Matt Gemmell covered it during the Cocoa Face Off session of NSConference 2009 (at about the 13minute mark in the video). Unfortunately I can't actually read what he types and he doesn't speak the exact command. I know it has to be in the Apple docs somewhere but the search system is currently not being of any use. It looks like her just adds -showAllViews YES to the end of the command to open TextEdit but that command has no effect in 10.6.6. I have also tried every other capitalization I can think of as well as using view instead of views. Every command opens TextEdit just fine but doesn't show the colored outlines.

• ucommerce: how to change category template

  Using uCommerce 2, umbraco 4.7. I have a category side nav showing the categories using: <a> <xsl:attribute name="href"> <xsl:value-of select="CommerceLibrary:GetNiceUrlForCategory($catalogueName, @id)"/> </xsl:attribute> <xsl:value-of select="@displayName"/> </a> First of all, when hovering over the links it still shows an old catalogue name, even though I've renamed the catalogue and also hardcoded the catalogue name into: <xsl:variable name="catalogueName" select="'MyCatalogue'"/> When I click on the link generated by GetNiceUrlForCategory I get the standard template that comes with uCommerce started site. I've tried deleting the whole started site, but I just can't get it to link to a template I did for the category. I still don't quite understand how ucommerce knows which template to use for a category link. Soren? :) Cheers, Matt

• Postfix Bounced Emails With Google Apps

  So our company uses Google Apps to handle our accounts for our employees. Meaning something like [email protected] would go to Google Apps. We also use postfix on our server to send out our news letter emails to our users. We've setup our emails to have a unique return-path which is basically [email protected] problem is that when postfix gets a bounce during the SMTP connection, it actually sends out the email to Google Apps. Is there anyway that we can setup Postfix to not send to [email protected] and instead pipe that message to a script which we can grab the original message and log the bounced address? I realize this only partially works as some emails may send correctly from postfix and then bounce down the road somewhere, but this should help us out with a good portion of our bounces. For a start, in main.cf we have recipient_delimiter = + and in master.cf we have bouncehandler unix - n n - - pipe user=nobody argv=/path/to/bounce_handler.php ${recipient} Not really sure where to go from here though.

• NHibernate.Search - async mode

  Hi, I am using NHibernate Lucene search in my project. Lucene.Net.dll - v - 2.3.1.3 NHibernate.dll - v - 2.1.0.4000 At this point I am trying to use async option for indexing and used following options config.SetProperty(NHibernate.Search.Environment.WorkerExecution, "async"); config.SetProperty(NHibernate.Search.Environment.WorkerThreadPoolSize, "1"); config.SetProperty(NHibernate.Search.Environment.WorkerWorkQueueSize, "5000"); Questions 1) My initial index was not build with this option, when used these settings first time, I had error saying NHibernate.Search.dll not found. When I deleted existing index and then started working, it went fine. Do we need to rebuild indexes whenever we change config settings like above ? 2) How size of index should be interpreted; i.e. initially my index was about 400MB (build over the last few months), which I deleted. Later when I reindexed, the size of index went down to 5MB ! Search appear to be alright after limited testing, but such a change appeared bit scary. Should we delete/rebuild indexes once in a while & is it normal to change this drastically ? 3) Is my above setting is OK ? When I had WorkerThreadPoolSize=5, I once got Dr Watson kind of error. Please advise on best practices of using async configuration for search. Regards, Atul

• MVVM Light Toolkit V3 SP1 for Windows Phone 7

  He he I start to sound like Microsoft… Anyway… I just released a service pack (SP1) for MVVM Light Toolkit V3. Why? Well mostly because I worked a bit more with the Windows Phone 7 tools that were released at MIX0, and I noticed a few things that could be better in the Windows Phone 7 template. Also, I only found out at MIX that you can actually install custom project templates for Visual Studio Express. For some reason I thought it was not possible. The best way to solve these issues is through a service pack, which consists of a few zip files. Simply follow the instructions on the “Installing Manually” page. You can go ahead and overwrite the files that were installed with V3, all the file structure and names are exactly the same. What? So what do you get in this service pack that was not already in V3? (for more info about what’s new in V3, check the What’s New page). Project and Item templates for Visual Studio 10 Express (phone edition). Unzip these files in your “My Documents” folder, and you can now create a new MVVM Light application in the WinPhone7 version of Visual Studio 2010 Express. Signed assemblies: All the assemblies are now signed, which is a requirement in certain build configurations. XML documentation files: Thanks to Matt Casto for pinging me and reminding me that I had forgotten to include them (doh). New and improved Windows Phone 7 assemblies and templates: This one deserves its own section (see below). What was wrong with the old Silverlight 3 assemblies in Windows Phone 7 projects? It was kind of weird. Functionality wise, it was working just right. However, if you noticed, the EventToCommand behavior was not visible in the Assets tab of Expression Blend, under Behaviors, where it should normally have been. The reason was that even though the Windows Phone 7 is using Silverlight 3, the System.Windows.Interactivity that Blend was expecting is the version that is normally used in Silverlight 4. Yeah, I know, it’s weird. This led me to create a specific version of these assemblies for the phone. The assemblies are located into C:\Program Files\Laurent Bugnion (GalaSoft)\Mvvm Light Toolkit\Binaries\WP7. There are 3 DLLs: GalaSoft.MvvmLight.WP7.dll with RelayCommand, Messenger and ViewModelBase GalaSoft.MvvmLight.Extras.WP7.dll with EventToCommand and DispatcherHelper System.Windows.Interactivity.dll which is the same DLL installed in the Blend SDK, and which is needed for the EventToCommand behavior to work.
