PHP, MySQL: Security concern; Page loads in a weird way

Hi all, I am testing the security of my website. I am using the following URL to load a PHP page in my website, on localhost: http://localhost/domain/user/index.php/apple.php When I do this, the page is not loading normally; Instead the images, icons used in the page simply vanish/disappear from the page. Only text appears. And also on any link I click on this page, it brings me to this same page again without navigating to the required page. So if I have hyperlinks to other pages, such as "SEARCH", which points to search.php, instead of navigating to the search.php page, it refreshes the index.php page and just appends the page name of the destination page to the end of the URL. For example, say I used the link above. It then loads the index.php page minus the images at it's will. When I click on the "Search" link to navigate to the search page, I see the following in the URL: http://localhost/domain/user/index.php/search.php I have a redirection configured to a 404 error page in my .htaccess file, but the page does not redirect to the 404 error page. Notice the search.php towards the end of the URL above. Any other link that I click, reloads the index.php page and just appends the destination page name to the end of the URL like I have shown above. I was expecting to see a 404 Error but that does not happen. The URL should not even be able to load the page because I do NOT have a "index.php" folder in my website. What can I do to solve this? Save Cookies, Then Open Link in New Tab

I have some javascript code that saves a cookie. However, if after saving the cookie, the user opens a new tab, it appears that the cookie is not saved. The new tab is on the same domain. Here is my cookie setting/getting code: function setCookie(c_name,value,exdays) { var exdate=new Date(); exdate.setDate(exdate.getDate() + exdays); var c_value=escape(value) + ((exdays==null) ? "" : "; expires="+exdate.toUTCString()); document.cookie=c_name + "=" + c_value; } function getCookie(c_name) { var i,x,y,ARRcookies=document.cookie.split(";"); for (i=0;i<ARRcookies.length;i++) { x=ARRcookies[i].substr(0,ARRcookies[i].indexOf("=")); y=ARRcookies[i].substr(ARRcookies[i].indexOf("=")+1); x=x.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,""); if (x==c_name) { return unescape(y); } } } If some javascript calls setCookie('mycookie', 1) and then the user clicks on a link where the _target is set to _blank, the cookie does not load in the new tab. So getCookie('mycookie') will not return 1. What is the problem here?

New Tuxedo White Papers

As part of the Tuxedo 11gR1 release, I've written two new white papers on Tuxedo. One is called "Tuxedo in a SOA World" and discusses how Tuxedo fits into SOA based applications. It covers most of the various connectivity options from Tuxedo into SOA environments and gives guidance as to which connectivity options are best suited for a particular application requirement. The other white paper "SCA: Bringing Modern SOA Programing to Tuxedo" is of a more technical bent and focuses on using the SCA features in SALT to easily build SOA based applications on Tuxedo without using a lot of technical APIs. In fact, services built using SALT's SCA support don't require any technical APIs, just pure business logic, and SCA clients need at most a couple of API calls, simply to look up a service. Some New .NET Toys (Repost)

Last week I was fortunate enough to spend time in Redmond on Microsoft’s campus for the 2011 Microsoft MVP Summit. It was great to hang out with a number of old friends and get the opportunity to talk tech with the various product teams up at Microsoft. The weather wasn’t exactly sunny but Microsoft always does a great job with the Summit and everyone had a blast (heck, I even got to run the bases at SafeCo field) While much of what we saw is covered under NDA, there a ton of great things in the pipeline from Microsoft and many things that are already available (or just became so) that I wasn’t necessarily aware of. The purpose of this post is to share some of the info I learned on resources and tools available to .NET developers today. Please let me know if you have any questions (or if you know of something else cool which might benefit others). Enjoy! Visual Studio 2010 SP1 Microsoft has issued the RTM release of Visual Studio 2010 SP1. You can download the full SP1 on MSDN as of today (March 10th to the general public) and take advantage of such things as: Silverlight 4 is included in the box (as opposed to a separate install) Silverlight 4 Profiling WCF RIA Services SP1 Intellitrace for 64-bit and SharePoint ASP.NET now easily supports IIS Express and SQL CE Want a description of all that’s new beyond the above biased list (which arguably only contains items I think are important)? Check out this KB article. Portable Library Tools CTP Without much fanfare Microsoft has released a CTP of a new add-in to Visual Studio 2010 which simplifies code sharing between projects targeting different runtimes (i.e. Silverlight, WPF, Win7 Phone, XBox). With this Add-In installed you can add a new project of type “Portable Library” and specify which platforms you wish to target. Once that is done, any code added to this library will be limited to use only features which are common to all selected frameworks. Other projects can now reference this portable library and be provided assemblies custom built to their environment. This greatly simplifies the current process of sharing linked files between platforms like WPF and Silverlight. You can find out more about this CTP and how it works on this great blog post. Visual Studio Async CTP Microsoft has also released a CTP of a set of language and framework enhancements to provide a much more powerful asynchronous programming model. Due to the focus on async programming in all types of platforms (and it being the ONLY option in Silverlight and Win7 phone) a move towards a simpler and more understandable model is always a good thing. This CTP (called Visual Studio Async CTP) can be downloaded here. You can read more about this CTP on this blog post. MSDN Code Samples Gallery Microsoft has also launched new code samples gallery on their MSDN site: http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/. This site allows you to easily search for small samples of code related to a particular technology or platform. If a sample of code you are looking for is not found, you can request one via the site and other developers can see your request and provide a sample to the site to suit your needs. You can also peruse requested samples and, if you find a scenario where you can provide value, upload your own sample for the benefit of others. Samples are packaged into the VS .vsix format and include any necessary references/dependencies. By using .vsix as the deployment mechanism, as samples are installed from the site they are kept in your Visual Studio 2010 Samples Gallery and kept for your future reference. If you get a chance, check out the site and see how it is done. Although a somewhat simple concept, I was very impressed with their implementation and the way they went about trying to suit a need. I’ll definitely be looking there in the future as need something or want to share something. MSDN Search Capabilities Another item I learned recently and was not aware of (that might seem trivial to some) is the power of the MSDN site’s search capabilities. Between the Code Samples Gallery described above and the search enhancements on MSDN, Microsoft is definitely investing in their platform to help provide developers of all skill levels the tools and resources they need to be successful. What do I mean by the MSDN search capability and why should you care? If you go to the MSDN home page (http://msdn.microsoft.com) and use the “Search MSDN with Big” box at the very top of the page you will see some very interesting results. First, the search actually doesn’t just search the MSDN library it searches: MSDN Library All Microsoft Blogs CodePlex StackOverflow Downloads MSDN Magazine Support Knowledgebase (I’m not sure it even ends there but the above are all I know of) Beyond just searching all the above locations, the results are formatted very nicely to give some contextual information based on where the result came from. For example, if a keyword search returned results from CodePlex, each row in the search results screen would include a large amount of information specific to CodePlex such as: Looking at the above results immediately tells you everything from the page views to the CodePlex ratings. All in all, knowing that this much information is indexed and available from a single search location will lead me to utilize this as one of my initial searches for development information.

Possible Duplicate: migrating PR / rankings from one site to another Ive been writing a blog for the past yr or so, with about 300 published articles, the blog have been running under a subdomain blog.mysite.com We are no looking to change the url of our site, so the blog is going to have to be ported over to a subdoamin on the new site. We would really like to keep the backlog / archive of all the articles we have written but dont wont to be penalized for having duplicate content, could we just remove / unindex the urls from google in webmaster tools then export the blog and import it back to our new blog ? Would google still see this a duplicate content or becuase ive removed the urls have they no longer got a copy of it ? thanks

XAF DSL Tool Needs a new Team Lead

I have enjoyed my time on this project and have used it in several production projects. However, with the enhancements in Visual Studio 2010 and the Entity Framework, the DSL tool doesn’t make sense for me to support at this time. With that said, I am looking for someone who has interest to continue the project if they so desire. I have moved my attention to creating a new project at Entity Framework Extensions for XAF. We are converting the current DSL tool into the Entity Framework extensions. The same code generation and everything else work. However, the visual design surface is so much easier to work with. If you have any questions, please let me know. Also, please take a moment to look at the new project. This is where all my effort going forward will be focused. Thanks again for all the support on my vision this far and enjoy.

New Year's resolution 2012

Same procedure as every year... Hundreds of thousands of people have their annual new year's resolution to begin the new year. And so am I. My resolution for 2012: Writing more blog articles (again). Actually, it's quite difficult to find to proper time and space to write up an article for any kind of blog, newspaper or magazine. Especially, when you are very busy with daily work and fulfilling customers demands with very tight schedules. New security configuration flag in UCM PS3

While the recent Patch Set 3 (PS3) release was mostly focused on bug fixes and such, a new configuration flag was added for security. In 10gR3 and prior versions, UCM had a component called Collaboration Manager which allowed for project folders to be created and groups of users assigned as members to collaborate on documents. With this component came access control lists (ACL) for content and folders. Users could assign specific security rights on each and every document and folder within a project. And it was possible to enable these ACL's without having the Collaboration Manager component enabled. But it took some special instructions (see technote# 603148.1) and added some extraneous pieces still related to Collaboration Manager. When 11g came out, Collaboration Manager was no longer available. But the configuration settings to turn on ACLs were still there. Well, in PS3 they've been cleaned up a bit and a new configuration flag has been added to simply turn on the ACL fields and none of the other collaboration bits. To enable ACLs: UseEntitySecurity=true Along with this configuration flag to turn ACLs on, you also need to define which Security Groups will honor the ACL fields. If an ACL is applied to a content item with a Security Group outside this list, it will be ignored. SpecialAuthGroups=HumanResources,Legal,Marketing Save the settings and restart the instance. Upon restart, two new metadata fields will be created: xClbraUserList, xClbraAliasList. If you are using OracleTextSearch as the search indexer, be sure to run a Fast Rebuild on the collection. On the Check In, Search, and Update pages, values are added by simply typing in the value and getting a type-ahead list of possible values. Select the value, click Add and then set the level of access (Read, Write, Delete, or Admin). If all of the fields are blank, then it simply falls back to just Security Group and Account access. As for how they are stored in the metadata fields, each entry starts with it's identifier: ampersand (&) symbol for users, "at" (@) symbol for groups, and colon (:) for roles. Following that is the entity name. And at the end is the level of access in paranthesis. e.g. (RWDA). And each entry is separated by a comma. So if you were populating values through batch loader or an external source, the values would be defined this way.
