As we have rank() function in sql server do we have something with which we can find the students rank??? • Can you create a HIPAA compliant Amazon S3 Web Application?

  I am facing some questions when trying to design an S3 application using ASP.NET MVC and trying to stay HIPAA compliant. My initial plan was to require an SSL connection to my web server, encrypt the images on my server, then send them to s3 using my private keys. Here's my obvious concerns: You cannot store unencrypted images in any temporary file cache when client views images within the browser. Even if I setup an ashx to generically handle the image in memory, couldn't this get stored in cache? Saying the images will be encrpyted because you will be connecting to my server via https still does not guarantee all browsers will not cache data. It's not possible to even consider the "Query String" with expiration option since data will be encrypted before being stored on disk at s3, and will again be decrypted at my server in memory. I think my only option would be to write/purchase some sort of ActiveX component that will not expose the image as a simple html image source or write my app as a client side WinForm application.

  I have a set of Java 5 source files with old-style Doclet tags, comments and annotations. And based on that I would like to write a generator for another set of Java classes. What is the best way to do that? And are there any good standalone libraries for code analysis/generation in Java? Any shared exprience in this field is appreciated. So, far I have found these: JaxME's Java Source Reflection - seems good, but it does not seem to support annotations. Also it had no release since 2006. Annogen - uses JDK's Doclet generator, which has some bugs under 1.5 JDK. Also it had no releases for a long time. Javaparser - seems good as well and pretty recent, but only supports Visitor pattern for a single class i.e. no query mechanism like in the 2 above packages.

• Best tools to parse reports

  I have a report that I need to parse/scrape for loading into an alternate or query-able data store. The report looks like something akin to: this. My gut is that PERL would do a decent job, but I have several different permutations of the report and I don't really want to make a script around each form. This report is a pretty stock type report, and I have seen where Monarch Pro can parse these types of reports, but I have had a difficult time finding alternatives to how these could be parsed since I'm looking to do this working primarily in a Linux environment. Any suggestions?

  I have my mind firmly wrapped around relational databases and how to code efficiently against them. Most of my experience is with MySQL and SQL. I like many of the things I'm hearing about document-based databases, especially when someone in a recent podcast mentioned huge performance benefits. So, if I'm going to go down that road, what are some of the mental steps I must take to shift from SQL to NO-SQL? If it makes any difference in your answer, I'm a C# developer primarily (today, anyhow). I'm used to ORM's like EF and Linq to SQL. Before ORMs, I rolled my own objects with generics and datareaders. Maybe that matters, maybe it doesn't. Here are some more specific: How do I need to think about joins? How will I query without a SELECT statement?   Hello, I'm sure this has been asked but I'm not quite sure how to properly search for this question, my apologies. I have two tables, Foo and Bar. For has one row per Food, bar has many rows per food matching descriptors. Foo name id Apple 1 Orange 2 Bar id description 1 Tasty 1 Ripe 2 Sweet etc (sorry for the somewhat contrived example). I'm trying to return a query where if, for each row in Foo, Bar contains a descriptor in ('Tasty', 'Juicy') return true ex: Output Apple True Orange False I had been solving this somewhat trivially with a case when I only had one item to match select Foo.name, case bar.description when 'Tasty' then True else 'False' end from Foo left join Bar on foo.id = bar.id where bar.description = 'Tasty' But with multiple items, I keep ending up with extra rows: Output Apple True Apple False etc etc Can someone point me in the right direction on how to think about this problem or what I should be doing? What if in my click listener of a button in a list item view, I change the text of the TextView in the List item view or change the dimension of the list item view by adding/removing children of the list item view What is an efficient to refresh my listView? • Faster way to update 250k rows with SQL

  I need to update about 250k rows on a table and each field to update will have a different value depending on the row itself (not calculated based on the row id or the key but externally). I tried with a parametrized query but it turns out to be slow (I still can try with a table-value parameter, SqlDbType.Structured, in SQL Server 2008, but I'd like to have a general way to do it on several databases including MySql, Oracle and Firebird). Making a huge concat of individual updates is also slow. What about creating a temp table and running an update joining my table and the tmp one? Will it work faster?

  From when I learned that the class java.lang.String is declared as final in Java, I was wondering why is that? I didn't find any answer back then, but this post: How to create a replica of String class in Java? reminded me of my query. Sure, String provides all the functionality I ever needed, and never thought of any operation that would require an extension of class String, but still you'll never know what someone might need!   Hi I have the following table T: id 1 2 3 4 col a b a c I want to do a select that returns the id,col when group by(col) having count(col)1 One way of doing it is SELECT id,col FROM T WHERE col IN (SELECT col FROM T GROUP BY(col) HAVING COUNT(col)>1); The intern select (from the right) returns 'a' and main one (left) will return 1,a and 3,a The problem is that the where in statement seems to be extremely slow. In my real case, the results from the internal select has many 'col's, something about 70000 and it's taking hours. Right now it's much faster to do the internal select and the main select getting all ids and upcs and do the intersection locally. MySQL should be able to handle this kind of query efficiently. Can I substitute the where in for a join or something faster? Thanks

So any hard coding is not acceptable. It could be based on attribute, database table, or even an external assembly. I am willing to buy a ready solution. According to the idea of AOP, an access control function can be integrated with existing functions easily and nearly not knowingly to the previous developer;) Any suggestions are welcome.

• Querying Active Directory in ruby app on Windows box

  I have a small ruby app in which I'm trying to query some information from Active Directory. The app will be run by a Windows user who is already logged in. It looks like the ruby-net-ldap gem wants me to connect to an LDAP server using an IP address, port and then pass my username and password. Is there a way to achieve this (with a different gem, say) so that I don't have to pass this information (I don't have the current user's password for example, so that's not going to work)? I'm also hosting a Trac website on our intranet (which is written in Python if I remember correctly and that seems to know the current Windows username and domain. If it can do it, surely my little ruby app can access this information too?

  I am looking for T-SQL code to list all tables in all databases in SQL Server (at least in SS2005 and SS2008; would be nice to also apply to SS2000). The catch, however, is that I would like a single result set. This precludes the otherwise excellent answer from Pinal Dave: sp_msforeachdb 'select "?" AS db, * from [?].sys.tables' The above stored proc generates one result set per database, which is fine if you are in an IDE like SSMS that can display multiple result sets. However, I want a single result set because I want a query that is essentially a "find" tool: if I add a clause like WHERE tablename like '%accounts' then it would tell me where to find my BillAccounts, ClientAccounts, and VendorAccounts tables regardless of which database they reside in.

  I am currently using various back-end services and I want to use PHP to simply query these services and perform the final page construction. These services could be coded in any number of programming langauges such as Erlang, Java, Python etc. However I am unsure of the best way to actually interface the back-end services with the web app. Requests to these services would be both synchronous and asynchronous. Would I use something like SOAP or JSON-RPC?? Any help greatly appreciated.

  Basically, I want to pull data from August to May for a given set of dates. Using the between operator works as long as I do not cross the year marker (i.e. BETWEEN 8 AND 12 works -- BETWEEN 8 AND 5 does not). Is there any way to pull this data? Here is the SQL Query I wrote: SELECT count(*), MONTH(DateTime) FROM Downloads WHERE YEAR(DateTime) BETWEEN 2009 AND 2010 AND MONTH(DateTime) BETWEEN 8 AND 5 GROUP BY MONTH(DateTime) ORDER BY MONTH(DateTime)" Any help is appreciated.   I'm trying to do a lookup on our demographioc table to display some stats. However, since out demographic table is quit big I want to do it in one query. There are 2 fields that are important: sex, last_login I want to be able to get the total number of logins for various date ranges (<1day ago, 1-7 days ago, 7-30 days ago, etc) GROUPED BY sex I right now know how to do it for one date range. For example less than 1 day ago: SELECT sex, count(*) peeps FROM player_account_demo WHERE last_demo_update>1275868800 GROUP BY sex Which returns: sex peeps UNKNOWN 22 MALE 43 FEMALE 86 However I'd have to do this once for each range. Is there a way to get all 3 ranges in there? I'd want my end result to look something like this: sex peeps<1day peeps1-7days peeps7-30days Thanks!
