  • "rsAccessDenied" error for SSRS 2008

    Hi All, I have been trying to access SSRS Web Service URL hxxp://myServer:80/ReportServer (from Reporting Service Configuration Manager), but my IE always shows "rsAccessDenied" message saying that my account doesn't have privilage required to view. Here are my system specs. Its my laptop with Windows 7 x64, and SQL Server 2008 with SP1 and I am using Mixed Mode Authentication with My account as SysAdmin privilages and this is what I have been trying / tried ... (ofcourse with restarting the service everytime I make any change in configuration), I changed service account from Reporting Service Configuration Manager to make it use My account but nothing happend. I tried running my IE as admin, by RUN AS ADMIN but still same message. Then I read somewhere I have to delete/recreate my encryption keys as well, so I tried again with that, then it was asking me to enter ID/PWD to access server here I am totally blank because it was not accepting my account credentials !!!. Weird thing is I can see my existing reports if I follow this URL hxxp://myServer:80/Reports , for which My guess is solely used to view reports. I have read post here about kind of same problem, but it seems that OP just left forum after asking question... Also, MSDN does have these helps hxxp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms156034.aspx hxxp://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb630430.aspx but both of this didn't workout for me.     I have two WCF services hosted in a single Windows Service on a Windows Server 2003 machine. If the Windows service needs to access either of the WCF services (like when a timed event occurs), it uses one of the five named pipe endpoints exposed (different service contracts). The service also exposes HTTP MetadataExchange endpoints for each of the two services, and net.tcp endpoints for consumers external to the server. Usually things work great, but every once in a while I get an error message that looks something like this: System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: There was no endpoint listening at net.pipe://localhost/IPDailyProcessing that could accept the message.     I am tired of Java web, and started to learn Ruby on Rails because of that, but I just found this Framework and it looks promessing... But I am not in the mood to study more Java, so I would like to know if this one is worth my time ( that would mean, less configuration and action mapping and so on) Is it better then Struts 2(WebWorks) ??? because those are way better then Struts 1 but still not a RoR. Spring MVC ? I would like a Hands On Opnion, not a specs compare. Thanks !

  • Consuming WCF from BizTalk 2006r1

    Hi I need to create an Orchestration in BizTalk 2006r1 that will consume a WCF basicHTTP web service. Does anyone have a pointers on how to do this please? The WCF service has been created by another team but I am able to request that they create an additional endpoint with binding configuration set to make calling from BizTalk SOAP adapter possible. I just created a simple test basicHTTP service that runs fine when tested from a command line client. When I got to BizTalk add web reference I am able to browse to the service but then get a message "Failed to add web reference" and it bombs out! Any help gratefully received. Thanks Rob.

    Hi, Does anyone know of a way to obtain the phone service state (IN_SERVICE, OUT_OF_SERVICE, EMERGENCY_ONLY, POWER_OFF) in android. I was hoping there would be a broadcastreciever to identify the changes, but I can't find anything. I know there's a listener but I'm not sure how I would use that from my app as it runs as a service using a WakefulIntentService (by thecommonsguy). With something like battery level (ie BATTERY_LOW, BATTERY_OKAY) it's quite easy, but I just can't work out a similar things for phone service changes.

    Other team has one legacy system, which is data aggregators. It is implemented as web service using JAVA, SOAP,MTOM,Tomcat and Axis2. They have wsdl files defining functionalities such as search, retrieve data, upload, download. Our team has a new developed website which is developed using RoR with mySQL. It is sort of social networking. Users can register, add friends, upload images, videos. Also, they can search data. We are required to connect the two systems. One possible solution I think is - Adding components into our website. The component invoke services on the aggregators. - Synchronize website database to the aggregators. My doubts are: 1. How to add components in our websites? The components should use Java or Ruby or adapter from java to ruby. It is possible using ruby invoke web service. I think it should work since it is the point of web service. If so, can ruby call those services in wsdl directly? But how to deal with those different data structure? How to synchroinze our database to the aggregators. I think the best way is also through web service invocation such as upload. That means, we have to export the db records into xml files and then write some tools to upload. The web service project support MTOM. So, it is fine to upload huge data. Am I on the right record? Can anybody give me some hint. Thanks.

  • Modify SQL result set before returning from stored procedure

    I have a simple table in my SQL Server 2008 DB: Tasks_Table -id -task_complete -task_active -column_1 -.. -column_N The table stores instructions for uncompleted tasks that have to be executed by a service. I want to be able to scale my system in future. Until now only 1 service on 1 computer read from the table. I have a stored procedure, that selects all uncompleted and inactive tasks. As the service begins to process tasks it updates the task_active flag in all the returned rows. To enable scaleing of the system I want to enable deployment of the service on more machines. Because I want to prevent a task being returned to more than 1 service I have to update the stored procedure that returns uncompleted and inactive tasks. I figured that i have to lock the table (only 1 reader at a time - I know I have to use an apropriate ISOLATION LEVEL), and updates the task_active flag in each row of the result set before returning the result set. So my question is how to modify the SELECT result set iin the stored procedure before returning it?

    Hello All, I have an application built that hits a third party company's web service in order to create an email account after a customer clicks a button. However, sometimes the web service takes longer than 1 minute to respond, which is way to long for my customers to be sitting there waiting for a response. I need to devise a way to set up some sort of queuing service external from the web site. This way I can add the web service action to the queue and advise the customer it may take up to 2 minutes to create the account. I'm curious of the best way to achieve this. My initial thought is to request the actions via a database table which will be checked on a regular basis by a Console app which is run via Windows Scheduled tasks. Any issues with that method? Is there a better method you can think of?

    I mean, really, what is the point of SOAP? Web services have been around for a while, and for a while it seemed that the terms 'SOAP' and 'Web service' were largely interchangeable. However SOAP always seemed unwieldy and massively overcomplicated to me. Then REST came along, and suddenly web services made sense. As Joel Spolsky says, give a programmer a REST URL, and they can start playing with the service right away, figuring it out. SOAP is obfuscated behind WSDLs and massively verbose XML, and despite being web based, you can't do anything as simple as access a SOAP service with a web browser. So the essence of my question is: Are there any good reasons to ever choose SOAP over REST? Are you working with SOAP now? Would it be better if the interface was REST? Am I wrong?

  • WCF Async callback setup for polled device

    I have a WCF service setup to control a USB fingerprint reader from our .Net applications. This works fine and I can ask it to enroll users and so on. The reader allows identification (it tells you that a particular user has presented their finger, as opposed to asking it to verify that a particular user's finger is present), but the device must be constantly polled while in identification mode for its status - when a user is detected the status changes. What I want is for an interested application to notify the service that it wants to know when a user is identified, and provide a callback that gets triggered when this happens. The WCF service will return immediately and spawn a thread in the background to continuously poll the device. This polling could go on for hours at a time if no one tries to log in. What's the best way to acheive this? My service contract is currently defined as follows: [ServiceContract (CallbackContract=typeof(IBiometricCallback))] public interface IBiometricWcfService { ... [OperationContract (IsOneWay = true)] void BeginIdentification(); ... } public interface IBiometricCallback { ... [OperationContract(IsOneWay = true)] void IdentificationFinished(int aUserId, string aMessage, bool aSuccess); ... } In my BeginIdentification() method can I easily spawn a worker thread to poll the device, or is it easier to make the WCF service asynchronous?

  • .NET WebService IPC - Should it be done to minimise some expensive operations?

    I'm looking at a few different approaches to a problem: Client requests work, some stuff gets done, and a result (ok/error) is returned. A .NET web service definitely seems like the way to go, my only issue is that the "stuff" will involve building up and tearing down a session for each request. Does abstracting the "stuff" out to an app (which would keep a single session active, and process the request from the web service) seem like the right way to go? (and if so, what communication method) The work time is negligible, my concern is the hammering the transaction servers in question will probably get if I create/drop a session for each job. Is some form of IPC or socket based communication a feasible solution here? Thoughts/comments/experiences much appreciated. Edit: After a bit more research, it seems like hosting a WCF service in a Windows Service is probably a better way to go...

  • MySQL Password Not Working

    Hi, When I enter my password into MySQL Command Line Client, it rejects my password, gives 1 beep and closes the window. Can anyone provide me with a basic troubleshooting list of steps (from simple to progressively more technical) to regain entry into MySQL once and for all. Also, can anyone tell me what can cause my password to suddenly be rejected? I am also running XAMPP and the MySQL service is both installed and running. Thanks in advance. I remember when I first got this problem some months ago, if I recall correctly, I solved it by starting the MySQL service from Windows XP's Administrative Tool (something I did stopped the MySQL service and to this day I don't know what it was). Now the problem has started back again but this time, when I checked Services, the MySQL service was already 'started'. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks

    I wrote a program that makes a reference to Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll, which is not present on Windows Server 2003. The program checks for the os and does not reference the dll if the os is 2003. if(OSVersion == WindowsServer2003) //do the job without referencing the Microsoft.Web.Administration.<br> else if(OSVersion == WindowsServer2008) //reference the Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll file.<br> When I tested this program on Windows Server 2003, an error occured telling me it couldn't locate the Microsoft.Web.Administration.dll. But when I separated the if-else block into 2 different methods as below, and the error did not occur. if(OSVersion == WindowsServer2003) //do the job without referencing the Microsoft.Web.Administration.<br> else if(OSVersion == WindowsServer2008) //DoIt2008Style(); So I wanted to know about reference file loading time in more detail. could you point me to some resources?

For this I read that I have to modify the web.config from Central Administration and web.config from my site with the membership and roleManager tags configured properly. But if I use this: <membership> <providers> <add name="MyProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider, System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" .../> </providers> </membership> System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider requires a database generated with ASP.NET SQL Server Setup Wizard (aspnet_regsql.exe), and this is my problem!     Hey guys, I'm trying to debug a service to tries to start but is immediatly stopped. I'm integrating an eventlogtracelistener, and tested it on my pc. When i start the service, i get 5 logs in my eventviewer. One is even the first thing it calls. When i install my service on the server, and try to start it, i don't get even 1 log in evenlogs and as i said before, i starts, takes 1 second and then stops automatically. Doesn't my service has the rights to write to eventlog? Thanks in advance.

    I have a project that needs to implement WCF data services (OData) to retrieve data from a control system (.NET Framework Application). The WCF data service needs to be hosted by the .NET application (No ASP.NET and NO IIS). I have seen many WCF Data Service examples recently; they are all hosted by ASP.NET application. I also see the self-host (console application) examples, but it is for WCF Service (not WCF Data Service). Here is my question: It is possible to have a standalone .NET Applications to host WCF Data Services ((http://localhost:1234/mydataservice.svc/...). If yes, can someone provide an example? Thanks.

When researching further (particularly on SO), general advice is that setting <compilation debug="true"> in web.config has a much bigger impact. Has anyone done any testing to get some actual numbers about this?   • Detecting a message box launched in another application

    I am developing a windows service, in vb .et, that launches a legacy application that performs some work. The service acts as a wrapper around the legacy app allowing users to automate an otherwise manual operation. Everything is working great, except occasionally the legacy app displays a messagebox. When it does this the process halts until the the message box closes. As the service will be running on a server there will be no user to close the message box. The service launches the legacy application in a System.Diagnostics.Process. My question is, is there way to detect that a message box has been displayed by a process that I have started using System.Diagnostics.Process and is there a way to through code to close the messagebox. I've tried to be brief so if you need more information please let me know. Thanks in advance Richie
