• Using Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportViewer in a custom SharePoint WebPart

  I have a requirement where I have to display some data (from a custom db) and let the user export it to an excel file. I decided to use the ReportViewer control present in Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportViewer. I added the required assembly to the project references and I add the following code to test it out protected override void CreateChildControls() { base.CreateChildControls(); objRV = new Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportViewer(); objRV.ID = "objRV"; this.Controls.Add(objRV); } The first error asked me to add this line in the web.config which I did and the next error says The type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.Analytics.UI.ReportViewerMessages, Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' does not implement IReportViewerMessages Is it possible to use ReportViewer in my custom Web Part? I rather not bind a repeater and write my own export to excel code. I want to use something which is already built by Microsoft? Any ideas on what I can reuse? • WPF: Adorner Hit Testing / MouseDown Event

  Hello, I have an Adorner which adornes a Border (please see screenshot below). The MouseDown Event for the Adorner is however only raised, when clicking on an element in the adorner. I need the MouseDown Event to be raised, when clicking on any place in the adorner above the adorned element. How can this be done? Do I have to add an transparent control in the adorner or is there another way for this? Thanks for any help! • Alternative to FindAncestor RelativeSource in Silverlight 4 to bind to a property of the page

  Hi, FindAncestor RelativeSource only supports 'Self' and 'TemplatedParent', but I have to bind the width of a popup to the width of the page. Giving the page a name causes problems because sometimes it will throw exceptions saying a control with that name is already present in the visual tree. <Popup IsOpen="True" Width="{Binding ElementName=BordPage, Path=Width}" Height="{Binding ElementName=BordPage, Path=Height}"> Background information: I'm using a SL4 navigation based application here. BordPage is a navigation page, which I'm using multiple times within the application. So giving it a name in the page itself is not really a good idea, but I don't know how else I can bind to the width and height of the page. What I'm trying to do is have a black border (with opacity 0.8) cover the entire screen, (including the controls of the MainPage). Then on top of that I want to display some other controls. Since the application is touch controlled, providing the user with a ComboBox to select a value doesn't really work wel. Instead I want to show this black overlay window with a listbox taking up most of the screen so the user can simply touch the value he wants with a single click. Update: I just realized I can use the ChildWindow class to do this. But my original question remains.

• Linq to SQL EntitySet Binding the MVVM way

  Hi everybody! In a WPF application i'm using LINQ to SQL classes (created by SQL Metal, thus implementing POCOs). Let's assume i have a table User and a Table Pictures. These pictures are actually created from one picture, the difference between them may be the size, coloring,... So every user may has more than one Pictures, so the association is 1:N (User:Pictures). My problems: a) how do i bind, in a MVVM manner, a picture control to one picture (i will take one specific picture) in the EntitySet, to show it up? b) everytime a user changes her picture the whole EntitySet should be thrown away and the newly created Picture(s) should be a added. Is this the correct way? e.g. //create the 1st piture object UserPicture1 = new UserPicture(); UserPicture1.Description = "... some description.. "; USerPicture1.Image = imgBytes; //array of bytes //create the 2nd piture object UserPicture2 = new UserPicture(); UserPicture2.Description = "... another description.. • ASP.NET how to use __doPostBack from Custom JavaScript with Master/Content Pages

  In a simple aspx page I can have a custom JavaScript function postback as described in http://www.xefteri.com/articles/show.cfm?id=18 The simple page uses a linkbutton: <asp:LinkButton id="CreateFile" runat="server" onclick="CreateFile_Click" /> with code behind that has the VB subroutine: Sub CreateFile_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) and a Javascript custom function that does: __doPostBack('CreateFile',''); When I move the code to a content page with a corresponding master page the simple example no longer works. I'm aware that server control IDs are changed in the generated HTML when a master page is involved, and I'm using the correct IDs in the Javascript. As an example, for the LinkButton ID I use '<%=CreateFile.ClientID%' for the Javascript in the generated HTML. Never the less, I still can't figure out how to get postbacks from the Javascript when master pages are involved. More accurately, with a master page in the mix the code won't even compile but results in: 'CreateFile_Click' is not a member of 'ASP.testmaster_aspx' If I remove onclick="CreateFile_Click" from the LinkButton markup it compiles but does not work. Similary if onclick is removed from the simpler version without a master page it does not work either, as expected. Any input on how to get postback from a custom Javascript function when using master pages would be much appreciated.

• Mimicking the UltraGridColumnChooser's drag & drop ability

  (Infragistics 2008 Vol. 3, CLR 2.0) Infragistics's UltraGrid comes with a column chooser user control, which is simply a vertical arrangement of columns with checkboxes that toggle a column's hidden state. In addition, it allows you to pick a column and drag it directly to the grid so you don't have to manually position it afterwards. (This is particularly handy when you already have a lot of visible columns and have no clue where the new one ended up.) I'm building my own column chooser based on an UltraTree. Getting the checkboxes to behave the same wasn't an issue, but I haven't found a way to drag a column from the tree to the grid and have it accept it. In my tree, each UltraTreeNode has a Tag with the following struct: Private Structure DraggableGridColumn Public NodeKey As String Public NodeName As String Public ParentKey As String Public Column As UltraGridColumn End Structure I then have an event as follows: Private Sub columnsTree_SelectionDragStart(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles columnsTree.SelectionDragStart If columnsTree.SelectedNodes.Count <> 1 Then Return End If If Not TypeOf columnsTree.SelectedNodes(0).Tag Is DraggableGridColumn Then Return End If Dim column As UltraGridColumn = CType(columnsTree.SelectedNodes(0).Tag, DraggableGridColumn).Column columnsTree.DoDragDrop(column, DragDropEffects.All) End Sub In the DoDragDrop call, neither column (of type UltraGridColumn) nor column.Header (of type ColumnHeader) get accepted by the grid. I assume I'm sending the wrong type, and/or that the grid expects a special struct with some additional information. Unfortunately, I've also failed to catch an event (both on the column chooser side as well as on the grid side) where Infragistics's normal column chooser does this properly; the normal drag & drop events never seem to fire.

• WPF derived ComboBox SelectedValuePath issue

  In our application we have a very large set of data that acts as our data dictionary for ComboBox lists, etc. This data is staticly cached and keyed off of 2 variables, so I thought it wise to write a control that derived from ComboBox and exposed the 2 keys as DPs. When those 2 keys have proper values I set the ItemsSource of the ComboBox automatically from the data dictionary list it corresponds to. I also automatically set the SelectedValuePath and DisplayMemberPath to Code and Description, respectively. Here's how an example of how an item in the ItemsSource from the data dictionary list always looks: public class DataDictionaryItem { public string Code { get; set; } public string Description { get; set; } public string Code3 { get { return this.Get.Substring(0, 3); } } } The value of Code is always 4 bytes long, but sometimes I only need to bind 3 bytes of it. Hence, the Code3 property. Here's how the code looks inside my custom combobox to set the ItemsSource: private static void SetItemsSource(CustomComboBox combo) { if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(combo.Key1) || string.IsNullOrEmpty(combo.Key2)) { combo.ItemsSource = null; return; } List<DataDictionaryItem> list = GetDataDictionaryList(combo.Key1, combo.Key2); combo.ItemsSource = list; } Now, my problem is, when I change the SelectedValuePath in the XAML to Code3, it doesn't work. What I bind to SelectedValue still gets the full 4 character Code from DataDictionaryItem. I even tried rerunning SetItemsSource when the SelectedValuePath was changed and no dice. Can anyone see what I need to do to get my custom combobox to wake up and use the SelectedValuePath provided if it's overridden in the XAML? Tweaking the value in the property setter in my SelectedValue bound business object is not an option.

• Add PRISM Region Manager In Existing Navigation Window

  We have a "legacy" WPF applicaton that is based on a NavigationWindow. The NavigationWindow has a fairly large ControlTemplate that houses a ContentPresenter as so: <ControlTemplate> ....snip... <ContentPresenter x:Name="PART_NavWinCP" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"/> .....snip.... </ControlTemplate> What we want to do is use that ContentPresenter as the first tab and dynamically add other tabs at run time. Like this: <ControlTemplate> ....snip... <TabControl Background="Transparent" cal:RegionManager.RegionName="MainRegion" Grid.ColumnSpan="2" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"> <TabItem Header="Nav Window Content"> <ContentPresenter x:Name="PART_NavWinCP" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"/> </TabItem> </TabControl> .....snip.... </ControlTemplate> Then our Modules grab the RegionName and insert their content dynamically. The issue seems to be that the PRISM region manager doesn't like that our code is in a ContentTemplate and cannot resolve the region. I have tried updating the RegionManager, adding the Region dynamically, just having a root tab control without the ContentPresenter, but I cannot get this to work. Any ideas?

• Spring Security: session expiration without redirect to expired-url?

  I'm using Spring Security 3.0.2 form based authentication. But I can't figure out how I can configure it so that when a session expires that the request is not redirect to an other page (expired-url) or displays a 'session expires' message. I don't want any redirect or messages, I want that a anonymous session is started just like when a user without a session enters the website. • dynamic GridView in CreateChildControls throws a "RegisterRequiresControlState can only be called be

  I am trying to add a GridView dynamically to a SharePoint Web Part. Right now, the first time I load the gridview, everything works fine. My gridview has an edit column enabled... so when I click that, it throws an exception when I try and add the gridview control on the postback. The exception: "RegisterRequiresControlState can only be called before and during PreRender" I've tried adding my controls in the CreateChildControls function, the OnInit, OnPageLoad, and OnPreRender... all exhibit the same problem. Does anyone know what might cause this kind of error? Edit: So to test this problem, I created a local GridView in the webpart, recreating all the properties in the one that failed. It actually worked this time through... the only difference that I could identify was that I had made the gridview a static variable in another class, where as here I initiated the gridview as a local variable. I even used the same initializing function for both the original and modified version, same difference. So why would creating a GridView locally affect the ability to add it to a web part?

• Binding "Text-Property" of a derived textbox to another textbox doesn´t work

  Hello, i have a class 'MyTextBox' that derives from the default TextBox in Silverlight. This class currently contains no additional code. I set up a binding in xaml to bind the Text-Property of MyTextbox to another Textbox to reflect the input made in the Textbox. The effect is that MyTextBox doesn´t update and not display the text of the other Textbox. Additional i made an equal binding for a normal Textbox. And this works.   Hello, I'm trying to select and de-select dates on a C# Web Calendar control. The problem I have is that I can select or deselect dates except when there is only a single date selected. Clicking on it does not trigger the selection changed event, so Ineed to do something on the dayrender event but I'm not sure what or how. Any ideas?   Hi, I would like to add all unversioned files under a directory to SVN using SharpSVN. I tried regular svn commands on the command line first: C:\temp\CheckoutDir> svn status -v I see all subdirs, all the files that are already checked in, a few new files labeled "?", nothing with the "L" lock indication C:\temp\CheckoutDir> svn add . --force This results in all new files in the subdirs ,that are already under version control themselves, to be added. I'd like to do the same using SharpSVN. • Linq to SQL and concurrency with Rob Conery repository pattern

  I have implemented a DAL using Rob Conery's spin on the repository pattern (from the MVC Storefront project) where I map database objects to domain objects using Linq and use Linq to SQL to actually get the data. This is all working wonderfully giving me the full control over the shape of my domain objects that I want, but I have hit a problem with concurrency that I thought I'd ask about here. I have concurrency working but the solution feels like it might be wrong (just one of those gitchy feelings). The basic pattern is: private MyDataContext _datacontext private Table _tasks; public Repository(MyDataContext datacontext) { _dataContext = datacontext; } public void GetTasks() { _tasks = from t in _dataContext.Tasks; return from t in _tasks select new Domain.Task { Name = t.Name, Id = t.TaskId, Description = t.Description }; } public void SaveTask(Domain.Task task) { Task dbTask = null; // Logic for new tasks omitted... dbTask = (from t in _tasks where t.TaskId == task.Id select t).SingleOrDefault(); dbTask.Description = task.Description, dbTask.Name = task.Name, _dataContext.SubmitChanges(); } So with that implementation I've lost concurrency tracking because of the mapping to the domain task. I get it back by storing the private Table which is my datacontext list of tasks at the time of getting the original task. I then update the tasks from this stored Table and save what I've updated This is working - I get change conflict exceptions raised when there are concurrency violations, just as I want. However, it just screams to me that I've missed a trick. Is there a better way of doing this? I've looked at the .Attach method on the datacontext but that appears to require storing the original version in a similar way to what I'm already doing. I also know that I could avoid all this by doing away with the domain objects and letting the Linq to SQL generated objects all the way up my stack - but I dislike that just as much as I dislike the way I'm handling concurrency.

• Silverlight 4. Activator.CreateInstance uses a huge amount of memory

  Hi, I have been playing a bit with Silverlight and try to port my Silverlight 3.0 application to Silverlight 4.0. My application loads different XAP files and upon a user request create an instance of a Xaml user control and adds it to the main container, in a sort of MEF approach in order I can have an extensible and pluggable application. The application is pretty huge and to keep acceptable the performances and the initial loading I have built up some helper classes to load in the background all pages and user controls that might be used later on. On Silverlight 3.0 everything was running smoothly without any problem so far. Switching to SL 4.0 I have noticed that when the process approaches to create the instances of the user controls using Activator.CreateInstance, the layout freezes unexpectedly for a minute and sometimes for more. Looking at the task manager the memory usage of IE jumps from 50MB to 400MB and sometimes to 1.5 GB. If the process won't take that much the layout is rendered properly and the memory falls back to 50 MB. Otherwise everything crashes due to out of memory exeption. Does anybody encountered the same problem? Or has anybody a solution about this tricky issue? Thans in advance Marco

• Is there any way to get an ExtJS GridPanel to automatically resize its width, but still be contained

  I want to include an ExtJS GridPanel inside a larger layout, which in turn must be rendered inside a particular div in some pre-existing HTML that I don't control. From my experiments, it appears that the GridPanel only resizes itself correctly if it's within a Viewport. For instance, with this code the GridPanel automatically resizes: new Ext.Viewport( { layout: 'anchor', items: [ { xtype: 'panel', title: 'foo', layout: 'fit', items: [ { xtype: 'grid', // define the grid here... but if I replace the first three lines with the lines below, it doesn't: new Ext.Panel( { layout: 'anchor', renderTo: 'RenderUntoThisDiv', The trouble is, Viewport always renders directly to the body of the HTML document, and I need to render within a particular div. If there is a way to get the GridPanel to resize itself correctly, despite not being contained in a ViewPort, that would be ideal. If not, if I could get the Viewport to render the elements within the div, I'd be fine with that. All of my ExtJS objects can be contained within the same div. Does anybody know of a way to get a GridPanel to resize itself correctly, but still be contained inside some non-ExtJS-generated HTML?

  I've little experience with advanced OO practices, and I want to design this properly as an exercise. I'm thinking of implementing the following, and I'm asking if I'm going about this the right way. I have a class PImage that holds the raw data and some information I need for an image file. The trivial/inelegant solution would be to have a lot of messy control flow that identifies the type of image file (.gif, .jpg, .png, etc) and then parse the header accordingly. Instead of using vector<char> data_, I was thinking of having PImage use a class, RawImageStream data_ that inherits from vector<char>. Each type of file I plan to support would then inherit from RawImageStream, e.g. RawGifStream, RawPngStream. Each RawXYZStream would encapsulate the respective header-parsing functions, and PImage would only have to do something like height_ = data_.getHeight();. Am I thinking this through correctly? How would I create the proper RawImageStream subclass for data_ to be in the PImage ctor? Is this where I could use an object factory? Anything I'm forgetting?

What does the BindingSource need to create a new Customer object and add it to the underlying ICustomerList ? Of course a interface has no constructor...
