• WPF: How to connect to a sql ce 3.5 database with ADO.NET?

  Hi, I'm trying to write an application that has two DataGrids - the first one displays customers and the second one selected customer's records. I have generated the ADO.NET Entity Model and the connection property are set in App.config file. Now I want to populate the datagrids with the data from sql ce 3.5 database which does not support LINQ-TO-SQL. I used this code for the first datagrid in code behind: CompanyDBEntities db; private void Window_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { db = new CompanyDBEntities(); ObjectQuery<Employees> departmentQuery = db.Employees; try { // lpgrid is the name of the first datagrid this.lpgrid.ItemsSource = departmentQuery; } catch (Exception ex) { MessageBox.Show(ex.Message); } However, the datagrid is empty although there are records in a database. It would also be better to use it in MVVM pattern but I'm not sure how does the ado.net and MVVM work together and if it is even possible to use them like that. Could anyone help? Thanks in advance.

  Hi everybody, I have an ecommerce working in ASP.Net MVC. i'm using Caching to improve more performace in my pages and it's working fine. • Why use bin2hex when inserting binary data from PHP into MySQL?

  I heard a rumor that when inserting binary data (files and such) into MySQL, you should use the bin2hex() function and send it as a HEX-coded value, rather than just use mysql_real_escape_string on the binary string and use that. // That you should do $hex = bin2hex($raw_bin); $sql = "INSERT INTO `table`(`file`) VALUES (X'{$hex}')"; // Rather than $bin = mysql_real_escape_string($raw_bin); $sql = "INSERT INTO `table`(`file`) VALUES ('{$bin}')"; It is supposedly for performance reasons. Something to do with how MySQL handles large strings vs. how it handles HEX-coded values However, I am having a hard time confirming this. All my tests indicate the exact oposite; that the bin2hex method is ~85% slower and uses ~24% more memory. (I am testing this on PHP 5.3, MySQL 5.1, Win7 x64 - Using a farily simple insert loop.) For instance, this graph shows the private memory usage of the mysqld process while the test code was running: Does anybody have any explainations or reasources that would clarify this? Thanks.

  I would like to handle the Checked and Unchecked events of a Checkbox control and execute a command in my ViewModel. I have a workaround where I have separate triggers (and commands) for the Checked and Unchecked and use a RelayCommand instead of RelayCommand<bool>. Each command executes correctly when the CheckBox is checked and unchecked. Feels a little dirty though - even dirtier than having UI code in my ViewModel :) Thanks

• Access a view inside a tab navigator when a tab is clicked

  Hi, I I have a view in Flex 3 where I use a tab navigator and a number of views inside the tab navigator. I need to be know which view was clicked because of it's one specific view then I need to take action, i.e. if view with id "secondTab" is clicked then do something. I have set it up to be notified, my problem is that I need to be able to know what view it is. • Vim + OmniCppComplete and completing members of class members

  I've noticed that I can't seem to complete members of class members using OmniCppComplete. When I type temp. in the cpp I get a list of string member functions as expected. But if I type str. omnicomplete spits out "Pattern Not Found". I've noticed that the temp. completion only works if I have the using std::string; declaration. How do I get completion to work on my class members?

• Databinding to Classmember of Classmember

  Hello, I need some help about WPF and Databinding. Let's say I have a ClassA with a member of ClassB. ClassB has again a member, maybe an int: ClassB { public int MemberOfB { get; set; } } ClassA { private ClassB _theB; public ClassB MemberOfA { get {return _theB;} set { _theB = value; // Need to do something here... } } } When I have a Databinding in XAML like this: <TextBox Text="{Binding Path=MemberOfA.MemberOfB}"/> Where the Datacontext of the Textbox is an object of type ClassA. As you can see, i need to do some computations in the setter of MemberOfA in ClassA. But with the databinding above, this setter is of course never called, because it binds to the member of ClassB. So, how can i get to be informed if the MemberOfA changes (when I Type something into the Textbox)? Are there any best practices? (Didn't check the code in Visual Studio, so there may be some syntax errors). Thanks, Walter

• Speeding up a soap powered website

  Hi all, We're currently looking into doing some performance tweaking on a website which relies heavily on a Soap webservice. But ... our servers are located in Belgium and the webservice we connect to is locate in San Francisco so it's a long distance connection to say the least. Our website is PHP powered, using PHP's built in SoapClient class. On average a call to the webservice takes 0.7 seconds and we are doing about 3-5 requests per page. All possible request/response caching is already implemented so we are now looking at other ways to improved the connection speed. This is the code which instantiates the SoapClient, what i'm looking for now is other ways/methods to improve speed on single requestes. • Generic C# Class: Set "Generic" Property

  I'm quite new to C#, so I might have a problem that C# has a simple solution for. I have a generic class with a property of "generic" type. How do I implement a function that behaves differently depending on the type of my generic property?

As I need to store the delegate that is called on EndExecute somewhere I created a dictionary. I'm unsure about using WaitHandles as keys though, but that seems to be the only safe choice. Does this approach make sense? Are WaitHandles unique or could I have two equal ones? Or should I instead use the State (and wrap any user provided state into my own State value)? Just to add, the class itself is non-generic, only the Begin/EndExecute methods are generic.

• Why put a DAO layer over a persistence layer (like JDO or Hibernate)

  Data Access Objects (DAOs) are a common design pattern, and recommended by Sun. But the earliest examples of Java DAOs interacted directly with relational databases -- they were, in essence, doing object-relational mapping (ORM). Nowadays, I see DAOs on top of mature ORM frameworks like JDO and Hibernate, and I wonder if that is really a good idea. I am developing a web service using JDO as the persistence layer, and am considering whether or not to introduce DAOs. I foresee a problem when dealing with a particular class which contains a map of other objects: public class Book { // Book description in various languages, indexed by ISO language codes private Map<String,BookDescription> descriptions; } JDO is clever enough to map this to a foreign key constraint between the "BOOKS" and "BOOKDESCRIPTIONS" tables. It transparently loads the BookDescription objects (using lazy loading, I believe), and persists them when the Book object is persisted. If I was to introduce a "data access layer" and write a class like BookDao, and encapsulate all the JDO code within this, then wouldn't this JDO's transparent loading of the child objects be circumventing the data access layer? For consistency, shouldn't all the BookDescription objects be loaded and persisted via some BookDescriptionDao object (or BookDao.loadDescription method)? Yet refactoring in that way would make manipulating the model needlessly complicated. So my question is, what's wrong with calling JDO (or Hibernate, or whatever ORM you fancy) directly in the business layer? Its syntax is already quite concise, and it is datastore-agnostic. What is the advantage, if any, of encapsulating it in Data Access Objects?

  I've seen posts here on how to make a dictionary that has multiple values per key, like one of the solutions presented in this link: Multi Value Dictionary it seems that I have to use a List< as the value for the keys, so that a key can store multiple values. the solution in the link is fine if you want to add values. But my problem now is how to remove specific values from a single key. I have this code for adding values to a dictionary: private Dictionary<TKey, List<TValue>> mEventDict; // this is for initializing the dictionary public void Subscribe(eVtEvtId inEvent, VtEvtDelegate inCallbackMethod) { if (mEventDict.ContainsKey(inEvent)) { mEventDict[inEvent].Add(inCallbackMethod); } else { mEventDict.Add(inEvent, new List<TValue>() { v }); } } // this is for adding values to the dictionary. // if the "key" (inEvent) is not yet present in the dictionary, // the key will be added first before the value my problem now is removing a specific value from a key.   I am trying to register some generic interfaces and resolve them . When ResolveAll is public static List<object> ResolveAll(Type t) { return myContainer.ResolveAll(t).ToList(); } I get a ResolutionFailedException with them message "The current type, Infrastructure.Interfaces.IConfigurationVerification`1[Infrastructure.Configuration.IMLogPlayerConfiguration+LoadDefinitions], is an interface and cannot be constructed. • Translating Where() to sql

  Hi. I saw DamienG's article (http://damieng.com/blog/2009/06/24/client-side-properties-and-any-remote-linq-provider) in how to map client properties to sql. i ran throgh this article, and i saw great potential in it. Definitely mapping client properties to SQL is an awesome idea. But i wanted to use this for something a bit more complicated then just concatenating strings. Atm we are trying to introduce multilinguality to our Business objects, and i hoped we could leave all the existing linq2sql queries intact, and just change the code of the multilingual properties, so they would actually return the given property in the CurrentUICulture. The first idea was to change these fields to XMLs, and then try the Object.Property.Elements().Where(...), but it got stuck on the Elements(), as it couldnt translate it to sql. I read somewhere that XML fields are actually regarded as strings, and only on the app server they become XElements, so this way the filtering would be on the app server anyways, not the DB. Fair point, it wont work like this. Lets try something else... SO the second idea was to create a PolyGlots table (name taken from http://weblogic.sys-con.com/node/102698?page=0,1), a PolyGlotTranslations table and a Culture table, where the PolyGlots would be referenced from each internationalized property. This way i wanted to say for example: private static readonly CompiledExpression<Announcement, string> nameExpression = DefaultTranslationOf<Announcement> .Property(e => e.Name) .Is(e=> e.NamePolyGlot.PolyGlotTranslations .Where(t=> t.Culture.Code == Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture.Name) .Single().Value ); now unfortunately here i get an error that the Where() function cannot be translated to sql, what is a bit disappointing, as i was sure it will go through. I guess it is failing, cause the IEntitySet is basically an IEnumerable, not IQueryable, am i right? Is there another way to use the compiledExpressions class to achieve this goal? Any help appreciated.

All teacher give us problem which in simple form sometimes, but they donot introduce any approach or method(s) so that we cannot make a decision to choose the method then apply that one to problem , afterward find solution then write code.No help from teacher , push us to find method to solve homework. Ex: my friend is using no method , he says "I start to construct algorithm while I try to write prog." I have found one method when I failed the course, More accurately, my method: When I counter problem in language , I will get more paper and then ; first, input/ output step ; my prog will take this / these there argument(s) and return namely X , ex : in c, input length is not known and at same type , so I must use pointer desired output is in form of package , so use structure second, execution part ; in that step , I am writing all step which are goes to final output ex : in python ; 1.) [ + , [- , 4 , [ * , 1 , 2 ]], 5] 2.) [ + , [- , 4 , 2 ],5 ] 3.) [ + , 2 , 5] 4.) 7 ==> return 7 third, I will write test code ex : in c++ input : append 3 4 5 6 vector_x remove 0 1 desired output vector_x holds : 5 6 now, my other question is ; What is/are other method(s) which have/has been; used to construct class :::: for c++ , python, java used to communicate classes / computers used for solving embedded system problem ::::: for c by other user? Some programmer uses generalized method without considering prog-language(java , perl .. ), what is this method ? Why I wonder , because I learn if you dont costruct algorithm on paper, you may achieve your goal. Like no money no lunch , I can say no algorithm no prog therefore , feel free when you write your own method , a way which is introduced by someone else but you are using and you find it is so efficient

• How can I optimize this or is there a better way to do it?(HTML Syntax Highlighter)

  Hello every one, I have made a HTML syntax highlighter in C# and it works great, but there's one problem. First off It runs pretty fast because it syntax highlights line by line, but when I paste more than one line of code or open a file I have to highlight the whole file which can take up to a minute for a file with only 150 lines of code. I tried just highlighting visible lines in the richtextbox but then when I try to scroll I can't it to highlight the new visible text. • What Can I Do To One Of My Team Number (Good Friend As Well) Who Lost His Passion.

  It seems this question is not program related, but there are lot of similar questions. So please bear with me! By the way, I am programmer and my team is also charging a software project. And SO is the only place which solved me lot of thorny troubles!THANK YOU GUYS! I joined my company with him years ago. At that time he was quite passionate on his job which is a front-end development. He gave us lot of useful suggestions concerning his work like design. And I believed he was a smart guy. I believe he still is smart too by the way. One years later, however, he seemed lost his passion and fooling around every day, did not care about his work any more and produced poorwork. Even worse he literally stopped learning new skills and honing his work related skills. For me it is horrible, we got to keep abreast with new technology development, otherwise we will be throw out. Since we were just coworkers, I did not care about it too much except mentioned my thoughts several times. But last month, we resembled a new group and assigned very important project. And I am the team leader, sadly! My boss gave me lot of support and expectation as well. I did a pretty good job before and I am very optimism to our future. But as a team, if my team does not work hard, we will be doomed to failure no matter how hard I work and push. In order to revitalize his passion, I tried couple of ways like talking to him about my concern and my boss's angry. I offered his new task which is quite new to him. I even persuaded my boss to give him new incentive package. But all of them knocked wall. His reaction was just he did not care. Even worse he did not want to talk about his situation. I want to be hard on him, but since we are friends and coworkers, I really can not see it will work. Even it works, I can not so quickly change my self from friend and coworker into manager. As a novice in management, I am really overwhelmed! I do not want get him fired, we are friends and I do not see him fired as my team number. What can I do? Thank you guys!

The error I'm getting is Object reference not set to an instance of an object" at the line: titleTextBox.Text = xmlnode.Attributes["@title"].InnerText; so I'm not reaching the attribute "title" of the slide node.
