• How to Shrink large Hyper-V VM

  Using Disk2VHD utility I converted my bare-metal OS into Hyper-V VHD - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/ee656415.aspx And I could obtain a huge 190GB VHD file. Apart from performance issues, this VHD worked fine as guest when hosted on Windows Server 200 R2, Hyper-V. Having realized need to keeping only system files and application installations on VHD. I have deleted most of the junk data from this VHD and now it contains only 20-25 GB. But I am not able to shrink the VHD VM. Having done some research, I came to know, this as a limitation of .VHD files. Subsequently I followed these two step using Edit Virtual Hard Wizard on Windows 2012 Box. Convert from VHD to VHDX (took close to 3 hrs.) Compact (Another 4 hrs.) This did not ever shrink the VHDX either. Does Hyper-V does not provide proper support to handle large VHDs or VHDXs whose size are the range of 200GB.

  I've got two Acer X233Hbid 23" Widescreen LCD Monitors from new egg back last summer, each weigh 10.5lbs a piece I Want to Buy a third Acer 23" (closest I've found is the X235 on Newegg, weighs in at 11.5 lbs) , one of the new ATI video cards that will output to 3 displays, and then a monitor stand that will let me use them in portrait mode like the image below. I found the following: $260 - ERGOTRON 33-323-200 DS100 Triple-Monitor Desk Stand and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this kind of setup and whether it would work for me or not.. • how to stop outgoing email spam

  running an email system using roundcube, with about 200 people using it. 99% of them do as they are told and only email clients they have already spoken to, however 1% of them decide to bulk spam bcc emails, which then tripped an aol filter and almost got us banned from our host. I have disabled the guys account but I am worried about something similar happening in the future, what would be the best way to stop this? I read that if aol recieve 3 emails within 60 seconds from the same ip address then its an instant ban, so i am guessing with the big companies like google, their email accounts must have different ip addresses? and if so is there any way to implement a similar feature? Also i have spam assasin enabled, in this case what would be the best configuration for it?

  I am new to database world and would like to know what are crucial hardware specs when it comes to database performance. I have searched the internet and found this so far (In order of decreasing importance): 1) Hard Disk: Get an SSD basically (much more IOPS than spinners) 2) Memory: Get as much as you can afford 3) CPU: For the same $ spent, prefer larger cache size over speed. Are these findings sensible? EDIT: I would like to focus on CPU speed VS CPU cache size. EDIT2: The database is used to store some combination of ints and int arrays with few text fields. There are a lot of Select queries looking for existing entries. If entry is not found, then insert it. I would say most of processing would be trying to find a match across a table with 200 columns and 20k rows. The insert statements are very few. EDIT3: Also, we have a lot of views (basically select queries).

• How to disable proxy cache when query string is empty?

  With nginx I have server { listen 1.2.3.4:80 proxy_cache_valid 200 302 5m; location / { try_files $uri @upstream; root $root; } } When I go http://example.com/foobar it generates a redirect to http://example.com/foobar?filter_distance=50&... which is visitor dependent so I would like to not cache this redirect. I need to bypass cache when the query string is empty. I am a bit lost because location /foobar will match both.

• Ubuntu 10.04 not detecting multiple monitors

  I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card? How do I get this to work. Thanks. • Apache gzip with chucked encoding

  I'm expiriencing some problem with one of my data source services. As it says in HTTP response headers it's running on Apache-Coyote/1.1. Server gives responses with Transfer-Encoding: chunked, here sample response: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: Apache-Coyote/1.1 Content-Type: text/xml;charset=utf-8 Transfer-Encoding: chunked Date: Tue, 30 Mar 2010 06:13:52 GMT And problem is when I'm requesting server to send gzipped request it often sends not full response. I recieve response, see that last chunk recived, but then after ungzipping I see that response is partial. • Apache, modifying response codes from 404 to 301

  Hi, I'm running a magento installation on an apache server. There are many pages indexed in both google and linked to from external sites. I can't use 301 redirects in a .htaccess file as I can't be sure I will catch all the links. At the moment all requests are rewritten through magento and if a request isn't found magento returns a 404 File not Found. Is there a way of using one of the apache modules to filter the response* from magento and if a 404 Not Found is being sent back then replace the response with a standard 301 Redirect to the home page? E.g. Request to Magento -- Apache -- Rewrite to Magento index.php page -- page processed. Response if request exists -- return results (200) if request doesn't exist -- return 404 -- apache filter change response -- return 301 redirect to / I appreciate any help. Rest all pages are still 200 DPI. I am using WinXP Professional and Irfan View. Can anyone tell me what I am missing. Or any other alternative program where I can create a .bat file and run the batch process using Command line?

  Google Chrome keeps loading the second page of certain websites which is helpful on sites like Netflix so that instead of clicking on a link for page 2, I can just continue scrolling down and it'll automatically have the next page ready for me. But on online clothing sites, it just gets backed up loading all the next pages, misplacing links and loading the next page so that it actually replaces the page I'm trying to view literally every millisecond. Considering clothing sites generally have upwards of 20 to 200 pages of clothing, this is really annoying since Chrome tries to load all of them. How do I turn off the automatic page load???

  I'm using EAC to rip files to FLAC. Seems fine. But for a large amount of CDs (200 or so) the process is a little labor intensive. There's 4 or 5 clicks in there that seem extraneous -- EAC seems to want to rip the CD to a set of WAV files then (after all those files are ripped) I have to select "Process WAV files" (I'd get it exact, but EAC is occupied right now). I'd like to send all of it to FLAC files in just a few steps: get cddb info, select art, rip. Is there a way to do this with EAC that I'm missing? Haven't been able to find anything on the web that explains this. Is there a better program for this?

I found a problem that Nagios3 reports a warning in the HTTP monitoring service of a Debian server set at ip 192.168.1.52, that has an individual virtual host and a mass virtual host for application development. I get this status message: HTTP WARNING: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found I used the Nagios tools to check. servername is the name of the vhost server name I used in the Apache configuration. /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_http -H servername -I 192.168.1.52 receiving this status message: HTTP OK HTTP/1.1 200 OK - 37900 bytes in 0.504 seconds |time=0.503946s;;;0.000000 size=37900B;;;0 But when I check like this: /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_http -I 192.168.1.52 I get the same status message as the warning, so I assume that I don't have Nagios completely well set up because doesn't recognize the vhosts for that server, how it should be as the check_http service shows. Where should I look to fix that warning?

  I recently replaced my mac computer and would like to know if it is possible to run software on that computer that actually runs on another computer. My problem is that I use a terminal emulator that speaks SCO-ANSI on my old computer, but it is not compatible with the new version of OS X. I don't want to pay the exorbitant ($200+) licensing fee to get a current version of the software, so I'd like to know if it's possible to run the emulator on the old computer and just "stream" its window somehow to my new Mac computer. • Windows clients not using NTP server provided via DHCP

  I have a network consisting mostly of Windows Vista and 7 clients and an Ubuntu server. The server provides both the DHCP and NTP services through dhcp3-server and openntpd. In my dhcpd.conf, the subnet is declared as follows: subnet 10.10.10.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { range 10.10.10.10 10.10.10.200; option broadcast-address 10.10.10.255; option routers 10.10.10.1; option ntp-servers 10.10.10.1; } The clients don't seem to be using the NTP server though. When I capture the network traffic with Wireshark during the DHCP process, I also see no mention of the NTP option in the DHCP offer message. I am not quite sure if the clients would have to specifically request that option to receive it or if I have to make another configuration to offer the option.

• SQL query mixing aggregated results and single values

  I have a table with transactions. Each transaction has a transaction ID, and accounting period (AP), and a posting value (PV), as well as other fields. Some of the IDs are duplicated, usually because the transaction was done in error. To give an example, part of the table might look like: ID PV AP 123 100 2 123 -100 5 In this case the transaction was added in AP2 then removed in AP5. Another example would be: ID PV AP 456 100 2 456 -100 5 456 100 8 In the first example, the problem is that if I am analyzing what was spent in AP2, there is a transaction in there which actually shouldn't be taken into account because it was taken out again in AP5. In the second example, the second two transactions shouldn't be taken into account because they cancel each other out. I want to label as many transactions as possible which shouldn't be taken into account as erroneous. To identify these transactions, I want to find the ones with duplicate IDs whose PVs sum to zero (like ID 123 above) or transactions where the PV of the earliest one is equal to sum(PV), as in the second example. This second condition is what is causing me grief. So far I have SELECT * FROM table WHERE table.ID IN (SELECT table.ID FROM table GROUP BY table.ID HAVING COUNT(*) > 1 AND (SUM(table.PV) = 0 OR SUM(table.PV) = <PV of first transaction in each group>)) ORDER BY table.ID; The bit in chevrons is what I'm trying to do and I'm stuck. Can I do it like this or is there some other method I can use in SQL to do this? Edit 1: Btw I forgot to say that I'm using SQL Compact 3.5, in case it matters. Edit 2: I think the code snippet above is a bit misleading. I still want to mark out transactions with duplicate IDs where sum(PV) = 0, as in the first example. But where the PV of the earliest transaction = sum(PV), as in the second example, what I actually want is to keep the earliest transaction and mark out all the others with the same ID. Sorry if that caused confusion. Edit 3: I've been playing with Clodoaldo's solution and have made some progress, but still can't get quite what I want. I'm trying to get the transactions I know for certain to be erroneous. Suppose the following transactions are also in the table: ID PV AP 789 100 2 789 200 5 789 -100 8 In this example sum(PV) < 0 and the earliest PV < sum(PV) so I don't want to mark any of these out. If I modify Clodoaldo's query as follows: select t.* from t left join ( select id, min(ap) as ap, sum(pv) as sum_pv from t group by id having sum(pv) <> 0 ) s on t.id = s.id and t.ap = s.ap and t.pv = s.sum_pv where s.id is null This gives the result ID PV AP 123 100 2 123 -100 5 456 -100 5 456 100 8 789 100 3 789 200 5 789 -100 8 Whilst the first 4 transactions are ok (they would be marked out), the 789 transactions are also there, and I don't want them. But I can't figure out how to modify the query so that they're not included. Any ideas?

• European wireless data

  I am on my way to Europe for 20 days with the wife and teenage kids. Among us, we have 3 iPhones, 1 Blackberry, 2 iPad 3G and 2 Macbook Pro laptops. Each has Skype. I am very concerned about AT&T data charges, and I am looking for a sensible alternative. For example, the AT&T data plans for the phones and iPads are $200 EACH for 200 MB per device. That is $1,200 and does not even cover the laptops. Ouch!!! I am thinking about a prepaid data plan from a European cell system of some sort combined with a GSM data modem and a Cradlepoint router, such as the CTR500. So, questions: 1) Anyone know of a GSM data source in Europe where I can buy a GSM Modem compatible with the CTR500 at a reasonable prepaid rate? 2) Experience with the CTR500?

• Foward slash in kibana 3 query

  I'm trying to add a query that will match a request that ends with a slash, like this one: n.n.n.n - - [16/Oct/2013:16:40:41 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 25058 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 7_0_2 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/537.51.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.0 Mobile/11A501 Safari/9537.53" I'm using the Lucene query type. If my query is set to *, I see the event. If I set it to request:"css", I see CSS requests, as expected. However, all of the following yield no results: request:"/" request:"\/" request:"\\/" I tried a Lucene regular expression, with no luck: request:/\// I note that someone else is getting what appears to be a similar issue, although that's on Kibana 2: https://github.com/rashidkpc/Kibana/issues/401 How can I query for requests that end with a / character?

• Get cryptic error when trying to create a snapshot of any of my VMs

  I'm using Oracle VM VirtualBox. I have 6 VMs that I've imported. When I click on an individual VM, and then click the camera image (or Ctrl+Shift+S) to take a snapshot, the snapshot process fails and VirtualBox gives the following error: Failed to create a snapshot of the virtual machine vmName. Details: Result Code: VBOX_E_IPRT_ERROR (0x80BB0005) This happens not only for one of my VMs, but all of them, if I try to take a snapshot of each one separately, one at a time. My computer is a Windows 7 machine. I have 200 GB free on my hard drive, and I see no reason why the error should occur. I can import VMs, run them, and clone then without any problems. Can anyone tell me what to do to fix the issue?

• Computer becomes very slow (permanently) after running a bunch of apps

  Hello there, My computer with Windows XP installed becomes very slow after I ran some heavy tasks at a time. (play a full 3D online game while extracting a 4GB RAR archive) It freezes for about 200~500ms every few seconds, and this always happens if I do heavy tasks at once in my computer (for example, installing a program while playing games), and the lag remains permanently (even a reboot won't make it better) unless I repair-install the Windows. Since I have a low-end computer: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00 GHz, 512 MB of RAM ATI RADEON 9550 AGP 256 MB And the only way I used everytime to fix this problem is by repair-installing my Windows XP. So that I won't lose any data or installed programs. But I believe there's a better and faster way to fix this without repair-installing the Windows. Any idea?

• How to avoid Memory "Hard Fault/sec"

  i've a problem on my windows 2008 server x64, and i cannot understand how can i solve it. i'm looking to Resource Monitor and see about 100 to 200 hard faults/sec. and generally the machine is slow. As i've readed a bit it is caused by a "memory Page" that is no longer available on physical memory and causes a io operations (disk) and it is a problem. The current hardware is a intel core2duo E8400 (3.0GHz) with 6GB RAM on a Windows Server Web 64-bit. Actually the machine have about 2GB Ram used what having 4Gb available to use, Why is the machine requires that high level of Disk operations? what can i do to increase the performance? Im experiencing a memory issues? what should be my starting point?

• Eclipse Juno failing to start with Java returning 1 error report
